    I know that you made this video a couple of years ago, but I so wish that I stumbled upon it a long time ago. I bought me some blanket yarn (that’s what we call our thick fluffy yarn here in the USA), and I was looking at a ton of videos on different types of patterns to use for this type of yarn. Your pattern is like a breath of fresh air! I love how easy it is,it works up quite easily, and the pattern is beautiful! You’re right, half double crochets do work up well with this type of yarn☺️!

    Beautiful stitch for this type of yarn. It's very soft and cuddly. How do you wash a blanket made with this yarn? I threw a scarf in the washer and dryer, that I had crocheted, but it was no longer soft and cuddly...:(

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  2 года назад +1

      I'd have to look at the washing instructions on the ball band to be sure but my gut reaction is that I'd play it safe and either hand wash only or put in the washing machine on a cold cycle - I wonder if maybe it was the heat from your dryer that made it go crispy?

    • @suzannelaing2968
      @suzannelaing2968 2 года назад +1

      I'd guess too much heat too. Fluff on fleece fabric melts at very low temperature too as I discovered gently heating soup with about 2-3ft between fleece and pot/gas ring!

    I'm using a 'baby chenille ' which is alot finer .. I rubber band the yarns not being used so they behave nicely and don't tangle up .. I will definitely make this using the same gauge yarn you've used as it looks so very sharp and would feel squishy 😅

  • @Pouquiloury
    @Pouquiloury 2 года назад +2

    Since most chenille and velvet yarns are acrylic or polyester I find it useful to singe the yarn after I've cut it. I use a lighter for singeing. It stops the shedding while you work the yarn. When I work in yarn tails I singe them and press them to the thread nearby. When they are locked the ends don't work themselves out again. Try it on a little swatch to see if you find the results agreeable. The singed spots are molten plastic, so you work them in carefully. I wash it in a tight pillowcase, give it a good spin and let it dry laying on a towel. It keeps great!

      I’ve done a number of these chenille yarn blankets. I use tweezers to pull a tuft of fiber out of the base threads. Carefully tie a knot that’s in the bald spot. Weave in the tail to the point where you can snip next to your knot.
      This keeps the tension in base threads so they don’t release the fibers.

      For a finish that holds up even better with kids, weave the tail to your desired stoping point, strip the fibers out of the base threads, separate the base threads, and tie a knot over a loop in the work.
      With this method, the blanket’s tails didn’t release fiber or loosen themselves for years of heavy use and machine washing by my friend’s kids.
      I’ve done that with Lion and Bernat chennile. The plush fibers hide the small knots and short tails in the base threads.

    I just happened upon your channel and this is the best instructional video I have ever seen. I love making chenille blankets but I've only done them in knitting because crochet seems to be too tight without enough stretch or the stitches or to open. This design is absolutely beautiful, easy, and as you said works well with the shedding and weaving of chenille yarn.

      I'd have to look at the washing instructions on the ball band to be sure but my gut reaction is that I'd play it safe and either hand wash only or put in the washing machine on a cold cycle - definitely no heat!

    • @Nobodyknowsreally
      @Nobodyknowsreally 2 года назад +2

      @@HookedbyRobin You might also try washing it inside a large net bag, or what I use is a cheap net-like pillow protector. Look for some with a zip closure. That is if you can get one big enough for your blanket.

    • @Shamazcorner
      @Shamazcorner 2 года назад

    When you started the 2nd row, you said you intended to carry the Grey up the side but your ch up and 1st st left the Grey at the end of row 1. What am I missing please?
    Ok. When you changed back to the Grey that is when you lifted it up. Why would you not lift it with the orange row and drop it so it didn't have a long stitch from r1 to r4? Not being argumentative, just curious.

      It's so my grey is on the correct side of my work for when I want to pick it up again :-)
