Traded my 5.7 Tundra in for a F250. Twice the truck as the Tundra and not one issue. 4000 pound payload and fit 37” tires without any modifications. The Tundra I had leaky cam towers after 20k and had a serious rust issue. Toyota replaced both of my chrome bumpers under warranty but the underneath was a lost cause.. and no I don’t drive in salt. Also the paint on the Tundra was terrible thin and soft and scratched just looking at it. The Tundra also couldn’t haul a load of multch without a Carolina squat and towing my travel trailer and boat was sketch. Never thought I’d jump ship but the HD truck has exceeded all of my expectations plus more. I’ll probably never buy another Toyota unless they start offering a naturally aspirated V8 and a truck capable of truck things.

@@gearrunner yep I wouldn’t buy any turbo vehicle if I could avoid it, esp. a F150. I think everybody has had a bad experience with a certain brand and hold a grudge. For me it’s Chevy and Toyota. Had two Silverado’s that were junk and trannys went out in less than 30k. However the new GM products are supposedly superior in todays market and there’s many that have never had an issue. Same with Ram, they have come a long ways. I’ll never own another Toyota based on my personal experience and based on the direction Toyota has gone unless something drastically changes and they learn to make an actual truck. In fact I’ll never own another half ton again as they to me don’t make sense. IMO The market should skip the half ton and only offer a mid size truck and a Full size truck. It’s funny all the truck talk. “Typical Dodge” “Junk Ford”. The truth is they are all junk and all going to fail. For me the F250 HD truck just has way more capabilities for my personal use and has been the best truck I’ve ever owned. Solid front axle, HD frame and components, aluminum body, payload, tow capabilities etc. etc. are for me. And it’s nice to purchase a stock truck from the factory that looks like a truck and already lifted and ready for large tires.

Gear my wife and I have been driving Toyota vehicles since 1975. We have owned 25 total. I currently have a 2021 Tundra TRD Sport, CrewMax 4X4 with the 5.7 liter dual overhead cam V-8, the last year of one of the best engines they have ever built. My wife has a 2023 4Runner Limited 2WD with the 4.0 V-6. I said the same thing you said about Toyota going to a V-6 dual turbo charged engine. Stupid, stupid, stupid. You could take the 5.7 V-8 hook it up with the new 10 speed transmission and change the rear gear from a 4.30 to say a 3.75 or 3.65. Then that V-8 Tundra would get BETTER mph than the overworked V-6 dual turbo charged that they have recalled at least 100,000 units!!!!! Same on the 4Runner. I thought the 2023 was going to be the last year for the 4.0 V-6 in it so we bought it a 2023. But they did make them for 2024 but will do like they have already done the Tacoma and have a 4 cylinder turbo charged and 4 cylinder hybrid with NO V-6 for 2025. The 4 cylinder only Tacoma trucks are NOT selling either. Toyota has lost the 1/2 ton truck market and are about to lose the mid size truck market that Tacoma used to control. Toyota has lost me as a customer! We will drive what we have and hope they wake up!!!!!!!1

This v6 turbo trend is a government problem which forces mfg's to improve mpg on vehicles that aren't made for decent mpg...they are made for working, and Toyota isn't immune from pushing way too much through these smaller engines to replicate the power they had before. It didn't work in the 80's and it won't work now. Honda had tons of problems and is literally the worlds largest engine mfg, Kia does have issues, Ford is in a heap of hurt with the ecoboost etc.
Dealerships are also having huge problems from the CDK (software that runs entire dealerships) being hacked so it is a crappy time for consumers and the car biz.

a dealer can totally sell a used vehicle with an open recall... they are forbidden in the US from selling new vehicles with an open recall. The issue is the open recall is a bad selling point.... people don't want to buy it, the dealer doesn't want the headache. They might have that trade in sitting for months, or have to send it to auction. Many larger dealers will take the Tundras, but they will offer you way way less than you think its worth to counter for all their problems they'll have with it. Its best to hold onto them for now until the recall is completed.

2010…Toyota had 200,000 motor recalls on 4.6L V8. Today that engine is considered bulletproof. I think Toyota will eventually get it right like they always do but this is definitely a bad look

The difference is the gen 3 motor is 32k to replace. It’s basically an EV out of warranty won’t be worth it to fix if motor blows

I did watch Tim's video, I don't recall excatly what he said but I don't believe this is enitrly correct. My understanding, under Title 49 of the US code there is a section that this fall under. It applies to new vehicles coming off the assemnbly line. Those cannot be sold with a defect like this. Used vehicles are completely different story. I've heard Toyota has requested dealers not sell them but if they do they are required to advise the buyers of the situation.

    • @gearrunner

Legally or not, no dealer wants to try to sell a vehicle with an unresolved recall. I'd be interested in meeting a buyer that puts down tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle that has an unresolved engine recall.

I've been a Ford guy my whole life but recently bought my first Toyota. I bought a 2020 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport Crewmax.
I wanted the Tundra for its reliability, and I chose the 2020 because I wanted the V8.
I also think the older Tundra's look better than the new ones.
My only complaint is that the seats are uncomfortable on long trips compared to my F150.
I get complaints from the passenger that they feel like they are sliding forward in their seat all the time? It is not a power seat, so I'm limited on seat adjustments. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?
    Great video!

Everything dealers are doing (or not doing) with regard to the new Tundra's makes perfect sense from their point of view (and mine). Once this bearing/debris situation is taken care of things will go back to normal.

They haven't resolved the recall yet. No dealer in his right mind would want to try to sell a vehicle with an unresolved recall. Non Toyota dealers don't want the hassle of trying to get the trucks into Toyota when they do resolve the recall.
