    Lindsey Buckingham has been publicly humiliated by the remains of Fleetwood Mac and honestly given their age, I don't see Lindsey ever playing with Fleetwood Mac again. It's OVER! What exists now is a hybrid Fleetwood Mac cover band hoping to cash in on the nostalgia for what in truth, is lost forever.

    Lindsey has been dealing with so much shit over these 43 years... and all he gave them was endless amazing songs. This is heartbreaking.

    No Lindsey, no Fleetwood Mac. What is going on tour is merely a tribute band and no one needs to invest money in that at the end of the former bands career. Bye FM, it was a hell of a ride.

    I just can't my head around it. Fleetwood Mac are one of those bands where you need every member. Without Christine you lose a third of the set, without Stevie, likewise and without Lyndsey you get someone else singing his songs and an additional guitarist. As well as this the band are named after John and Mick so you need all five. I don't want to hear Neil Finn, Rick Vito or Billy Burnette singing Lyndsey's songs and I don't wanna go to a gig where Chris' songs aren't performed.

      I probably would replace the comment with: The post 1975 Fleetwood Mac is not the same without him. He was the brain trust of that part of the group's history. And anyone who thinks differently needs to remember he was the one the band coveted in 1974 and it was him producing all of their records and creating the sound that put the group over the top. Yes, he is an ass and probably had a lot to do with his dismissal, but usually his disagreements were about the music, so I'm pretty confident whatever position he was defending was likely reasonable from a musician's point of view.

    Lindsey Buckingham is the one who brought Fleetwood Mac to the top!.....Headmaster Mick has been living off the creativity of other musicians for decades, starting with Peter Green to Bob Welch to Lindsey Buckingham.....Fleetwood Mac was destined to be another casualty in the music business until Buckingham / Nicks were added to their line-up. That's when the magic happened and they zoomed to the top of the rock world!.....Replacements Mike Campbell & Neil Finn are excellent musicians which makes the current rendition of FM a tribute band....Not many fans are going to pay $200 plus to see a tribute act perform with members in their late 60's and early 70's.

    Lindsey is a talented musician and the main man of Fleetwood Mac, his songs IMO on their albums are the best. Without Lindsey, I am not interested in them at all. It is Lindsey's songs that anchor the Fleetwood Mac albums, they are always the strongest pop songs. It's a shame they did this to him. His solo song Trouble is a classic. No one would remember Fleetwood Mac or know the name Stevie Nicks if it wasn't for Lindsey. Fleetwood asked Lindsey alone to join his group in 74 I believe.

    Rock History Music This is a very fine channel. I am so glad that there is one on RUclips that covers classic rock bands like Yes, Jethro Tull , Genesis, Fleetwood Mac and a host of others. The 60s and 70s was the golden age of Rock-n=Roll, as far as I am concerned. Oh yes, honorable mention goes to the 80s, as well. Rock History Music: You do a great job! Thank you.

  • @MFitz12
    @MFitz12 6 лет назад +5

    The story that I have heard that is most plausible is the rest of the band wanted to go on tour this year and Lindsay didn't. No reason why they should have to wait for him to decide when he wants to play.
    The upcoming tour will apparently cover a lot of material that Lindsay would never allow the band to play live - because he didn't originally play on it. For genuine fans of FM I think this upcoming tour is a great opportunity to get a new experience, rather than just another Lindsay & Stevie's greatest hits recitation.

    • @jbt6007
      @jbt6007 6 лет назад

      The larger point is that the band waited for Stevie Nicks to complete her 70 date 24 Karat tour 2016-2017. During that time Lindsey and Christine made an album and promoted it. Now Lindsey wants to do a solo album and tour. Why shouldn't they wait for him if they waited for Stevie? Only fair.

  • @Babrooker
    @Babrooker 6 лет назад +11

    @Rock History Music - I think most fans have already decided which side they are on and it doesn't appear to be with Stevie Nicks. It takes 2 to tango and she was the other dancer! Someone should interview Christie McVie for her take on things and why she divorced John McVie and recently did a side project- solo album with Lindsay! Just saying......

  • @kevinhullinger8743

    Sorry but after over 40yrs of the band being on and off, can't believe it was just 1 person- Stevie Nicks- to be the one who caused this. I'm a die hard F.M. fan. The band wanted to keep going. Lindsey didn't want to tour for his own reasons. Something was decided and Lindsey saying he didn't want to leave the band and that it wasn't his choice does not mean that his decision to not tour wasn't the reason for his parting from the band. I probably won't listen to F.M. stuff without Lindsey just because it's just not F.M. without everyone ( I mean c'mon, they had to find 2 guitarist to replace him...says something there) just my opinion. There's always the good ole days of F.M. and that's where you'll find me😉

  • @jeffkempin2784

    What probably happened was that Lindsey wanted to devote some time to his solo career instead of cranking up another FM tour. Don't forget, last year when Lindsey and Christine McVie released that duet album, it was supposed to be a FM album, but Stevie "wasn't available" because she was touring solo. So Lindsey probably said something like, "hey guys, give me a year to do my solo thing and we can tour after that", but obviously no one wanted to wait. Most likely money was the defining factor, because have you seen the ticket prices? Lindsey Buckingham defined the sound of FM for way longer than anyone else. People always bring up Peter Green, but he was only in the band for, what, 2-3 years? Mirage was supposed to be a solo LB album, but he caved and went along and it became a FM album. Same with Tango in the Night and Say You Will. The majority of songs on those albums are LB songs, but the ladies usually sing the hits, but they actually contribute way less. I think it's shitty that the band did this and I think it's shittier that it probably has more to do with Stevie being bitchy and wanting to get paid now, because really, they aren't getting any younger and I doubt they get much money from record sales anymore.

  • @skysea333
    @skysea333 6 лет назад +8

    Buckingham has already shared with everyone publicly in interviews what the problem is and has always been... He said that Stevie is a psychotic and bipolar bitch. If you have not been with nor around one, then you have no idea what he's tried to convey about Stevie. I'm happy for Lindsay and he made the right choice to move on with his life... he is blessed with a wonderful family. Maybe one day Stevie will get some actual help...but I seriously doubt it.

    It totally sucks!!! I know Lindsey is hard to work with, but Stevie expects everyone to cater to her. She seems to forget she’s almost 70 years old, throwing tantrums and believing she is as relevant as she and the Mac were in the 70’s and early 80’s...it’s all really a shame. One would think at this juncture in their careers, they could make it work and all get a long. The truth is, Lindsey got married and had children and went on with his life after Stevie told him that the music, song writing and fame were the most important things in her life and she would not put a relationship in front of those things no matter what. Lindsey grew tied and moved on...Ultimately, Steve didn’t like that. She wanted Lindsey to still want her, but she wouldn’t settle down, so he bailed and truth be told she despised him for that and he despised her for making that decision. They loved hard and fought harder, over everything. The rest is history...

So, she got Mike Campbell.....who's wonderful...the other guitarist don't have a clue!! I wouldn't blame Stevie. I blame Mick.
    When Stevie was taking her documentary to a few film festivals, Mick was quoted as saying "Well, we're just waiting on her...". Lindsey was upset by these remarks and wrote "Sad Angel". A fabulous beautiful song.
    She's shoved a tour in between bouts of FM. And recorded 24 Karat Gold in, what was it, 2-6 weeks while waiting for FM? She's appeased them a fair bit lately. And I'm sure she'd rather be on the road, no matter how. Mick doesn't have songwriting credits (save for The Chain) to get residuals from. ALL he has is touring. If he wants to be the "leader" while Lindsey is doing more of the work, then he should be willing to shoulder the blame.

    • @chazer793
      @chazer793 6 лет назад +6

      I'm not entirely sure. The cynical part of me thinks the only reason Christine McVie decided to leave retirement was about money, and she understands that touring with the group is the way to earn money, so she would have likely just let it go. If you think about it, we could have had a proper Fleetwood Mac album last year, but Stevie Nicks decided to withhold her songs for her own album, so I suspect as always, it is all about Stevie. Same reason why Lindsay left in 1987, when Stevie was too coked up to even record more than one full track and spend less than two weeks in the studio on an album that took 18 months to produce.

    • @roguenation

      McVie was utterly fed up with doing concert tours by the late-'90s, so financial desperation must've been the prime motivator for her return to the fold.

    Despite the fact that Fleetwood Mac's 3rd iteration; the post 1974 Buckingham/Nicks era has far outlasted earlier incarnations, they really haven't produced anything of significance since 1979, following both their wildly popular self titled "Fleetwood Mac" + "Rumours" along with Lindsey's masterwork, "Tusk". Yet without him in the current lineup, it would be daringly refreshing to can Stevie - originally brought in as a condition of Lindsey's joining the group when Mick recruited him - as well, and focus even more on the Reporter's indication of the pre B/N songbook, with the exception of Christine's ongoing material. Of course they're going to perform "Oh Well", "Hypnotized" in addition to usual material repeated from the past. However without Nicks in the band, Neil Finn could cover a significant number of tunes penned and sung by Danny Kirwan; Bare Trees should be revisited, and not just the song, but numerous tracks from arguably the best post Peter Green LP not named Rumours*, although no fave* of mine. Perform other material from the wonderful "Then Play On" LP besides Peter's ubiquitous "Oh Well"; they clearly deserve revisiting, along with gorgeous instrumentals like "Albatross" and Sunny Side of Heaven". The "Future Games" LP is certainly worthy of some selections as are the remaining LPs recorded between 72-74. Bring back former crowd pleasers "Purple Dancer" and "Dragonfly", two of their greatest songs never to appear on a studio LP, though wonderful performed live. Neil Finn and Mike Campbell especially, can more than adequately handle the guitar chores + Neil has the voice to breathe new life into songs long since heard. Cruel perhaps, yet it makes perfect sense to me. Stevie's act is tired and tedious.

    I don't care about the why or what really happened, it just is what it is for whatever reason.
    Lindsey was such an integral part of Fleetwood Mac, they need him and he needs them to make Fleetwood Mac legit in my opinion.
    I have absolutely nothing against Neil or Jimmy performing with Fleetwood Mac and I'm sure they put on a great show with the rest of the band but I'd personally still feel cheated watching it.

      Not really sure what fans Mick and Stevie think are craving pre-'75 material. Whether it was Lindsey, Billy Burnette or Rick Vito covering these older songs, the result was usually the same. Once any of them launched into "Oh, Well" or "Another Woman" people would head for the restroom/concession stands or started talking. It's easy for Stevie to want these older songs, because she's not the one who has to cover them. On some of the tours, she wasn't even on stage when they covered those older songs. Fans are there to see those five people (or were), and want to hear them play the songs THEY recorded - the songs the fans are there to hear.

    Too bad we can't see into that alternate universe where Lindsey had declined Mick's offer to join the band back in 1974. It would be hilarious to see what thirty-plus years of ditch digging and dish washing would have done to Mick and John. Put that in your drum and beat it, Mickey. Also, got my "Fuck Stevie Nicks" T-shirt today and it's awesome. Its got that saying in big bold letters on the front and on the back in smaller script it has Lindsey's statement to Mick that he's not joining the band unless they accept his girlfriend Stevie, too. yes.. Lindsey should do what Roger Waters did/does, Officially break up from the band, Fleetwood, and go solo playing some of his solo songs, mostly Fleetwood Mac stuff, but with his band, and he is of course the front guy. And like Roger, Lindsey should get a woman to tactfully replace the Nick's vocals, ECT, but all the Fleetwood songs slightly revised laced with venum, ECT.. Lindsey Buckingham of the Fleetwood Mac tour... Lindsey doesn't need that band, Fleetwood Mac. He can pull it off.. the possibilities are available. Yea, Roger Waters plays those old Pink Floyd songs in live concert with absolute perfection, he always makes the original 70s songs sound flat and uninteresting in contrast to his live versions...

    Lindsey's comments about legacy, destiny and perspective was difficult to parse but seemed to indicate some hurt on his part about being left out. Unfortunately life is all about timing and I think Lindsey and the rest of the band were in a different mental and emotional space. I believe in 2017 Lindsey was prepared to go back into the studio with the band but Stevie was instead focused on a personal project. Instead Lindsey and Christine McVey recorded their own excellent album and toured (I attended their excellent concert in Toronto). Then in 2018 Lindsey began working on an anthology of his catalog plus some new material. After the cold shoulder from the band he gathered his studio musicians and toured in the fall. I attended his only Canadian stop in Kitchener and it was an amazing concert, his guitar playing is so underrated. At the concert he gushed about his band and how cathartic it was to play his own work.
    Incredibly Lindsey had a heart attack only a couple of months after his tour ended. His family has a history of fatal heart attacks with his father dying at 55 from one and his brother an ex Olympic swimming silver medalist similarly died at 46. Not touring with Fleetwood Mac let him to re-release his own catalog and tour with his own material which is a tremendously ironic bit of serendipity and possibly a satisfying end to his music career if he never performs again.

      Didn't want to tour period, or didn't want to tour with a particular song list? Or didn't want to tour with a particular number of dates? There are plenty of ways you can parse those comments. Given what he said in that concert, it doesn't strike me he just didn't want to tour. Also worth keeping in mind, he has children still in his household, so maybe, just maybe he wanted more breaks in between legs of the tour, so I wouldn't fault him for that either.

    1. Lindsey is like Mayer - he can talk for 45 minutes and not wind up saying anything that makes much sense. Both of 'em are just cryptic weirdos who should keep their mouths shut and stick to doing what they do best. But at least Mayer has a sense of humor. Have you ever heard Lindsey say (or do) anything funny?

    3. But...no Lindsey, no ticket sale to me, at least. The band is just not the band without him.

    Now could be wrong, and barking up the wrong tree,but I've got a feeling Fleetwood and Macvie are the root of the problem . going back to the earliest days of the group when Peter Green was the sound of the band, there were ructions between these three members, and Green left. I believe that there were differing views about sound and directions for the band, but one thing is for certain . . Peter Green was the band . .the other two were a minor part of the groups individuality . .Green could have hired any number of session musicians, and still have the best sound of the era. Buckingham has similar qualities to Green . fantastic guitar virtuosity and singing ability . .what about the other two? . .pretty pedestrian really. I really believe that the name has carried these two mediocrities along for decades, and they are just so used to getting their way . .it had to end sometime, and with Lindsay going, it will be his legacy that will be remembered above all the other two pretenders ever achieved.

    I have read on many occasions that Stevie Nicks has no interest in recording new music, particularly with Fleetwood Mac, for 2 reasons. 1) The current state of the music industry. She feels consumers no longer buy albums. 2) As a result of her negative view of the music industry, Stevie didn't want to spend months in the studio with the band. With the likelihood of band members potentially being at each others throats through creative disagreements during recording, she felt that the joy of a future tour would be lost. She prefers the idea of reuniting every 3 years and giving fans a great experience without the personal heartache of the past.
    Personally I feel that Stevie has been allowing the past to dictate and determine the future. I would have thought that 30 years after Tango In The Night, with Christine back in the band and John McVie having survived cancer, the opportunity to make new music and create new memories would be an exciting prospect.
    Fleetwood Mac is now in it's 51st year but has issued no new music since 2003 album, Say You Will, with the exception of Extended Play in 2013 (which consisted of 4 tracks, 3 new Lindsey Buckingham songs and 1 lost Stevie Nicks demo from the Buckingham Nicks album released in 1973). Too long a gap to leave between releases and remain relevant. Extended Play was produced with Mitchell Froom (who's past credits include work with Crowded House) offered a lot of promise, but Stevie's lack of interest truly shows. Given her mother had only recently passed away, it would be understandable if she wasn't overly inspired, but a tour still followed. Hmmm??
    What they are essentially undertaking is a nostalgia tour with a new and untested line up. The last time the Fleetwood Mac did this, it was prior to the release of the Time album in 1995. That tour did not feature Stevie, Lindsey or Christine (though Christine did contribute to the Time album as a band member) and led to Mick Fleetwood disbanding the group entirely. At that time, Fleetwood Mac was over and out. Neil Finn's decision to join Fleetwood Mac was exactly met with enthusiasm from his Australian contemporaries either. Midnight Oil members simply said, "Go Your Own Way" when asked for their thoughts.
    1997's The Dance live album was an accident, a happy accident, which ended prematurely because Christine was unwilling to tour beyond the USA. Instead she chose to quit music entirely and retire.
    Throughout the Buckingham and Nicks era of Fleetwood it was Lindsey who compromised (until 1987) and Stevie who kept everyone waiting. It would appear that he put his foot down (again, finally) and here we have 1987-1988 all over again minus the new album. Perhaps this is what Lindsey means by "lacking perspective". Thankfully the new first decade of the new century proved to be has proved his most prolific.
    I wonder how things are between Christine and Lindsey following their duo album and subsequent promotional tour? I understand that after it was over Lindsey wanted to revisit his past albums (maybe remaster and reissue) or curate his own greatest hits collection. This may explain him wanting to wait to tour with Fleetwood Mac again for another year (until 2019).
    What happens next remains to he seen, but a new album would be awesome, even with this line up. Following the deaths of Bob Weston, Bob Welch and Bob Brunning, the band wanting to have a more inclusive set list that celebrates the contributions of these men is an excellent idea. Given Bob Welch wasn't included when Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, I believe Bob Welch is owed his due. Pity he isn't alive to witness this.
    Fingers crossed for everyone involved (or not involved) as the case maybe.

    Lindsey is incredibly talented. I play guitar and never learned how to fingerpick until I saw him play Landslide on the "The Dance" concert, then I had to learn it. But I've been to a couple of Fleetwood Mac concerts and sometimes felt it was more the Lindsey Buckingham show. Too many long solos and songs basically only featuring him. And IMO not good songs. He doesn't come off as a very happy or likeable guy, so that along with his apparent (to me anyway) domination of the concerts I tend to believe some of the things I've read about how difficult he can be and his "my way or the highway" attitude. I could be wrong, that's just how it seems to me. Not looking for an argument, it's just how it appears to me. I think Fleetwood Mac will be a happier and more up-beat band now. I hope so. They deserve it. They all certainly paid their dues. They are and always will be an incredible band.
