Probably for performance reasons maybe, but if you aren't a pro driver, you aren't even going to be able to discern the benefits of having one vs without in regards to performance/handling. One benefit, if you are tracking your performance car, you get more headspace without a sunroof, generally probably only an inch of difference, but that could make and break it for some taller people.
Sunroofs add a lot of weight to the highest point on a car as well as reducing headroom. Both are detrimental for a performance car. It'd be nice as an option for people that want it but definitely shouldn't be standard equipment

Why focus on the drawbacks of FWD? I don’t know why people are so concerned with 0-60 in this car? We live in a world where electric cars have made 0-60 in anything else completely pointless. The CTR is about fun and AWD would add weight, cost more, corrupt the amazing steering, and compromise it’s exceptionally large interior volume
If AWD does all of that then that just shows me that they can't make a car to save their fucking lives. Audi, BMW, and Cadillac all have AWD systems and dominate the backroads way better than this thing. Don't get me started on Jag or Porche. So it can be done, and at that price because all of those Manufacturers are this car's competition. So it is being done, so yeah shit out another excuse, please.
@@RamblingOmarr
Why does this car absolutely "need" AWD? Explain, please. It doesn't need to be the fastest off the line to be an enjoyable driver's car.
@CaseyCollier You Must be Blind and Death if You did hear the mf struggling for Traction, that's bad for tires and suspension parts in the long run. Anybody that actually KNOW anything about "Driver's Cars" would know that... Jackass
@@RamblingOmarrand yet this car has beaten every single new RS3 and G87 M2 in every comparison it’s been in against them. No idea what AWD Cadillac you think compares to this 🤔
@jameswillard1 Are you serious? The Magnaride Cadillac System Benchmarks as best in the industry every Year..... And I fucking Hate Cadillacs. Course I say that, but look that Blackwing is really something special. There is noway this car that's 6 seconds to 60 with NO fucking traction off the Line is fucking with a Cadillac product. And again, I HATE CADILLAC. My Blazer RS with a 93 Octane Tune, and a Cold air intake is faster than this to 60..... And you're pushing forth that it's superior.
WHATEVER DRUG YOU'RE ON ....... I NEED IT.
people obviously dont get the mentality of this car. They prefer the fat heavyweight ACURA type S. Honda type R is not about fat weight but leightweight.
Type s only weighs like 60lbs more though
People complaining about the price yet y’all had no problem paying over MSRP on the FK8. Worth every penny if you get this at MSRP! Good job Honda 👍
Both fk8 and Fl5 are overpriced
I paid over on the FK8 and it was still less than $40k lol.
@@LateNightDateNight
What year did you buy the FK8?
Great car that has been ruined by making a fool out of its buyers. They literally look like rolling idiots for overpaying for an already overpriced vehicle. Your fault Honda - you should have stepped in. Legacy ruined. The end.
Holy Cost cutting Batman!
Hot hatch ? After EP3 they might aswell be people carriers for the size of them
Acura Integra Type S next question..
Honda FWD is the best handling fwd
If any car needs AWD it would be this one. Also, with they hype and dealer mark up it's just not worth the price.
Forreals automakers be throwing AWD on every car nowadays but not civic type R??
Stop with the launch crap...Drag racing is NOT this car's mission.
my gawd look at all the swirls and scratches on the outside door gloss black piece. i know this is a press car but damn. that's gotta be all over the car. just lucky it's white. Were it a black car LOL
Base price was raised to $6k because they can and it will still sell. No thanks at $43k+ over priced.
Why don’t they include sunroofs on performance models? Lowkey a deal breaker for me when paying those prices.
Yep there was one real tall designer… 😂 I have the same problem with sunroof’s. Too bad the Civic Si doesn’t have a sunroof delete option…
No one uses sunroofs because they always fail and when it rains your f**k
Sunroofs make cars heavier. Most true performance vehicles are slick tops.
Sunroofs add a lot of weight to the highest point on a car as well as reducing headroom. Both are detrimental for a performance car. It'd be nice as an option for people that want it but definitely shouldn't be standard equipment
Honestly I would take this over a BMW M2
No you won't.. Some give you a chance to pick one.. 100 you will choose the m2
@@ju4121 I have a F87 M2C, if I had to buy a brand new car today, I would 10000% choose the FL5 CTR over the G87 M2.
M2 is better than the CTR. RWD based better performance handling etc
But the Hondas a lot closer to it
100% would pick this over M2 any day of the week
Honda is garbage
Being the “King of FWD Hatchbacks” isn’t that glamorous 😂
Says the guy who’s never driven a civic
Sounds about poor.
@@naveenthemachine My first car was an SI, I owned an FK8. I know what I discuss
LOL exactly! Mitsubishi Mirage is a FWD hatchback so Civic Type R is the King of Mirage LOL
Toyota/Lexus all day, all night!
Hey Sofyan, are you filipino?
Indonesian (father) and Chinese (mother)
He's Ecuadorian and Kazakh
I'm lucky to have the more attractive 2019 FK8 as a daily driver. I knew it was something special before I left the lot on a test drive of a used R. Redline Reviews Rock!
There’s no way you’re saying the FK8 looks better, that’s a joke, right?
I30 N takes the hot hatch
Man took a swipe at the fk8 owners by saying "childish"
It looks like that. Useless vents are not cool. All FL5 vents have a purpose
Is a car with 4 doors a hatch? It's like a fast back wagon. An EG, EK, and EP3 are true hatches. But I do think it's the best type R Honda has made.
Still the king. The GR corolla has no chance to fight this. Because the Hondas more civilized refined and just far more polished. It’s obvious Honda benchmarked German cars in their development
First off the GR Corolla isn’t FWD, second this isn’t a refined vehicle. It’s a Civic that’s wider with better handling, still rattles in the dash and is missing what you should get for the asking price
@@LateNightDateNight the GR corolla has AWD but handling still goes to the civic. Not to mention the civics very refined from its styling to the interior to build quality materials fit finish to space to daily driving.
@@naveenthemachine The interior is cheeks other than the front seats lol. What’s refined about plastic?
@@LateNightDateNight every car has plastic but Honda tends to use high quality plastics with nicer grainings.
@@LateNightDateNightlol Mr naveen is a lexus /toyota downer.. Basically every car marker is 100000% better then toyota
Cool car
This guy must be really small. The car looks huge next to him.
No projectors for headlights is weird and not worth paying that much.
Love the car but would rather cop a Golf R
The last gen type r was so ugly! That is actually something that doesn't look like something a 6 year old made
the fk8 front end/side profile is leagues better than the fl5. rear fl5 takes the cake.
FK8 >
Comment section age between 15-23
That's why these cars shouldn't be anywhere near 60K.
Rather have a super nice used Vette for the money
It’s as wide as my van 😳
The fact that any of you thinking a 40-45k civic is good is ridiculous. A 45k CIVIC! ROFL!
But the civics a class leader
It’s worth it. You can pay 40k for a corolla and get a worse car than the civic
I remember when they released these back in 2017 for around $35k MSRP (and dealers were marking them up much higher) and I thought $35k was ridiculous to ask for a civic, no matter how fast. Now, they are marked up as high as $65k which is almost supercar prices.
@@bruceleeroy8302 super cars cost well over 6 digits
Inflation , the price still compare well in this segment. Its below the average new cars prices in the US or in Canada.
❤... but still GTI.😊
Sadly for 45k you can buy a 400+ hp new mustang that will rear it up 1/4 mile and keep up on a circuit track. This should be 40k max
Man only 5.2? Make it AT goes to 4.8s
You can barely even call this thing a hatchback. It looks almost more like a sedan from the side profile.
I wish that this was available in a two-door. I can't stand four door cars. They look so... utilitarian.
This is over a year old.
It's not a freaking drag car. What's so hard to understand?
Dodge boys will never understand. Don’t care if it stops, turns or last more than 10 years . But is it fast 😂
@@thecamdenyard exhaust and tune and the R wakes right up

Get the Golf R better in every aspect besides if your a track boy.
Even at track, the Golf R will put smiles on smiles on anyone driving it. Nobody is out there racing stock vehicles for money on track, so I don’t even understand why anyone would buy a CTR because it might be a second faster in track lol.
Except the Golf R is extremely boring visually and also a VW which is a big no from me.
The regular Civics need more power
#WheelHop is insane. I have no idea why anyone would buy this over a RWD (or RWD-based AWD).
Honda fanboys are something else…
I would..I grew up driving manual front wheel drive cars.
