It's not fine lol, the FK8 was 35k when it launched and creeped up a few thousand over the years. These Type Rs have no business costing more than 40k imho. Dealer markups are a totally different issue.@@steve8803
Really excellent review. With dealer markups on the Civic, dealers are demanding more for the Civic than the Acura. I like the sportier "minimalistic" appearance of the Civic. By way of example, the solid colors of the Civic look better than the metallic Acura colors. But it's really hard to pay more money to NOT get a more comfortable ride, less noise, electric drivers seat, lumbar support, seated seats etc. Plus, the Acura is made in Ohio; the Civic R is made in Japan.
My dad had the first gen EK9 Type R in black. I loved the Type R all my life but I will still question if it's worth 50k especially when it lacks some features like (heated seats, heated steering wheel). Other than that, the car has a well respected legacy and I bet it's fun to drive. I have a black Elantra N as of the moment and hopefully I can pick up a champ white FL5 in the future, only thing stopping me is the dumb markups dealers put on them.

I wish I'd purchased a Golf R instead, and I do have a GTI, so I know how much better it's built. Realistically, this car should have sold for maybe $35K at the most considering it's glued and snapped together with cheap plastic fasteners.
Scratching my head with that parking brake. Why even have one if you're going to do that? Defeats the purpose. I'll take my big mechanical S2000 parking brake over that wimpy electronic contraption any day.
