Happy Weds guys! We want thank Bern from @BernonCars for joining us for this comparison test! He was driving the Type R during the same week that we had the Type S so the timing just worked out perfectly! We also wanted to apologize for some wind noise, we forgot to bring a wind blocker for Bern’s mic but our editor, Rob did his best to minimize it. Would you guys pick the Type R or Type S? Let us know below!
Yoooo if this is Olney, MD, I lived around 5 minutes where you guys started driving the Type S!!!! That was Muncaster Rd and maybe Norbeck Rd you guys were on. 36:30
Type S all day for me. I was all in on the Type R until reviews like your first one made it abundantly clear I was wrong about Acura. They did very well with the ITS.
Curious that no one mentions the additional set of sensors in the bumper that the ITS has. They help mitigate low-speed collisions and assist with blindspots all cars have.
@@mikemccormick6128 damn. Bc here in Maryland there’s several dealers who have several. Some mark ups and others are msrp deals but with a 1500 dealer appearance package crap. I would shop around and look if you’re desperate or can find a better deal. You never know.
The FL5 is simple and has a classic look that will stand the test of times. The integra has this modern-angular look that every car company seems to be doing. I'll stick with the classier Type R.
Hey Redline, shout out to you guys for being the first to do this comparison on video. It was only a matter of time...as a big Honda/Acura fan, I am hoping a few others will follow suit!
I just came across this particular episode of Redline Reviews. I like the vibe that you and Bern impart to the review. WRT the two cars, both are beautiful and very well turned out. That Honda and Acura sought to differentiate their products was clear--the Acura folks really tried to make their car distinct--and it worked. But, then again, the Type R has loads of "distinct", too. One minor gripe: a crucial part of the "pops and burble" dynamic in the Acura come from a valve that shifts the exhaust flow from the two outboard exhaust tips to the centre tip (and accompanying muffler). If I had a Jay Leno-style garage space (and the savings account to match), I'd have one of each! Thanks for this.
Both fetch mark ups, the civic mark up is typically double that of the integra, so you’re talking 10-15k markup (I’ve seen as high as 20) for the civic, and the integra 5-10k (typically 7500, but I’ve seen as high as 15) making them damn near the same price. I think the integra looks better and since it has more features and is essentially the same price or less to buy… integra Type S all day.
This is the best review of these cars that I’ve seen. I drove a Type S and kept my Type R preorder. Both cool, but it’s my weekend car that I intend on keeping for a long time, not daily driver at all.
Type R over the Integra. R is made in Japan and seems more special but the Golf R and even the GTI are faster accelerating. Integra prices are list price in Canada and easy to buy, forget about the R-impossible.
My 24 R I purchased at msrp. Had to go to the next state. Local dealers wanted $5K. ADM. Local Acura dealer $5K ADM. Acura dealer network is small. So not great.
Really informative and entertaining hot hatch family feud review, Sofyan! You and Bern have such good chemistry and do a great tag team job of comparing these two hot hatchbacks. Easily one of the most fun reviews to come out of Redline. Thanks!
I own an FL5 and not sure what they were talking about when they said the rear wing cut their view right in half where in fact it is perfectly positioned so you don’t see it as you look through the rear view mirror. Almost every other review of the Type R mentions that the rear view is unobstructed by the wing.
Historically, all Type R’s never had a sunroof, inside are structural bracing for rigidity. You can’t put a sunroof in there, there’s an X brace in the way. All CTR mechanics were carried over to ITS to be on par on performance.
Thanks for the video - I had been searching around for comparisons. When it comes to the question of which, it's tough for me. On one hand I really like what the Acura stands for: being more adult, having matching seats, better exhaust and a slightly more plushy suspension but what I don't like about it is the overfenders look kind of cheap to me. The front and back of the car look so good but idk. Maybe I just need to see it in person. On the other hand I like that the Honda is more raw, the dash is more minimal and the body of the car is just so much more seamless than the integra... Just the wide body around the wheel wells is integrated so well unlike the Acura. But I dislike the mismatching seats and the wing. Don't get me wrong, the wing is cool but as someone who has to drive into an office building during the week I don't want to be seen as the 'racer boy'. Both great cars - I might just have to see them more in person before making a decision.
Both the Integra Type-S and the Civic Type-R are really good cars. I would actually prefer the Integra Type-S over the Civic Type-R if I have to choose one of them. I love that the Integra Type-S has a bunch of good color choices for the interior and exterior. In comparison with the design, the Integra Type-S is more stylish than the Civic Type-R. And the fact both of them are powered by the turbocharged K-Series engine, they still make a good sound for the exhaust, but I think Acura did really well of what Honda could've done to make the exhaust system to sound mean. Still, the Integra Type-S and the Civic Type-R continues to be great cars to daily drive, but it usually depends on what you choose more often.
A big factor for me is that the Type R is made at the Yorii plant in Japan and the Type S is made in the Ohio plant. I never hear anyone mentioning it.
Where it is made does not mean anything UNLESS they use different engineering formulas. I am sure Honda formulas are consistently built regardless of what soil it is done on
@@PsychicMedium4747 there’s a cost attached to transporting the car from Japan to NA. This is why the ITS should’ve been cheaper as it’s built right here on US soil.
I agree with this and that's why I picked the Integra. I'm approaching 40 and I wanted something that I could drive in comfort but still punch the gas when entering a freeway or passing. I will add, everywhere I looked the TypeR had crazy mark ups that made it around $2k within the TypeS. In my younger years I would have totally went with the TypeR.
@@ulysses4989 No. TypeR suspension is tuned for the track. So, it's much more harsh. TypeS suspension is softer and more comfortable for daily driving. If this was non-TypeR Civic vs non-Type S Integra, then Civic might be better daily. But, I didn't test drive non-TypeR or non-TypeS.

A month ago I was going to but a white Integra Type S, but I was curious and also test drove a blue A-Spec manual with the tech package. I ended buying the A-Spec. I just felt I would've ended giving up too many usefull day to day features. No memory driver seat, no front passanger electric adjust seat, no sunroof, no fog lights. I don't understand what Acura was thinking when they removed all that stuff. At the end of the day the A-Spec gives me about 90% the daily experience for alot less money and better gas milage. I would probably bought the Type S if I was 10 years younger, but when you get older you just end up being more practical I guess.
