i’m 24. i lost my brother when i was 8 years old from a hit and run. he was 17. he loved star wars which is why i do now and always tied my anger into Anakin’s. i guess at some point you do have to learn to let go before you turn into something you never wanted to be. to whoever is reading this, may the force be with you
And also with you, always.
may the force be with you and your brother too, always. i’m sorry for your loss.
And you as well brother. You are not alone in the great galaxy of ours
Thanks for sharing. I’m sorry that happened to you
sorry for your loss but your brother had great taste in movies. and I bet he would be happy you enjoy them too
Haydens partial face behind the mask and his voice really make it sink in.
This IS Anakin, not an abstract figure that was once Anakin and some dark husk of the warrior he was. It is Anakin, all of his choices, all of his deeds glories and failures, the culmination of his destiny.
He is painfully tragic.
I think this is something that needs to be said more. Vader thinks of Anakin as a separate person that represents his weakness. Obi-Wan even came to agree with that line of thinking. But Luke saw right through this. He believed that Anakin was could be saved. And in the end he made Anakin believe it too.

"I am what remains" may be one of the best lines spoken by any character, ever. The amount of pain wrapped up in those 4 words is incredible. I don't care what anyone says, this show was genius.
Up to this point the show was passable Star Wars content with a plus from it starring Obi Wan, but after this scene...
that line is so cold...
@@symundin9754 bro this show was amazing i never got the hate
@@JRF1004 I also give it props for using Inquisitors in the story, I love that a lot of Star Wars media right now is leaning into them. It's a very interesting and still somewhat unexplored era of Star Wars, the young Empire.

The pain, and hatred that Anakin has towards a lot of things and even himself. As soon as Anakin became Vader he lost everything that he held close to him.

Same thing happening with me but i don't have any powers
He hated himself more than anything else. Also, he didn't become Vader.. he always was Vader.
@@looksirdroids9134 he was always Anakin
I like it how when he says "you did not fail" as anakins voice comes through and how his voice even sounds robotic like he really is half machine
Obi Wan doesn't understand his grief; Vader didn't kill Anakin because he wanted to, he did it because he had no choice. Anakin killed the only woman he ever loved, so Vader killed Anakin to take revenge upon himself. Vader is the part of Anakin that lives in us all, that threatens to take over every time something bad happens. What Vader didn't realize is that Anakin wasn't dead, he was in hiding with the rest of the Jedi. Luke found him. just like he did Obi Wan and Yoda. Anakin was the chosen one after all, he brought balance to the force in Episode 3 and peace to the galaxy in 6, just not the way the Jedi thought.
yeah balance to the force literally means light & dark are equally powerful
Anakins tragedy is up there with one of the greatest stories ever told.
I would have to agree like for a specific character in fiction Vader is probably one of the most complex and interesting villains in fictional history
It definitely is but the Tragedy of what happened to Christ beats all in my honest opinion.

42 years! I saw Teturn of the Jedi in the theater with my dad. The day my sister was born my dad took my older brother to the premiere of a New Hope in San Diego. Star wars is deeply rooted in our family. I learned a lot of lessons from the original trilogy and as I got older I was able to pick up more and more of the deeper meaning. Especially, when it came to Yoda. We are accountable for close to 100% of the things that happen to us in our lives. Our decisions greatly influence the outcome. There are many times when we blame others for our problems and praise ourselves for our successes. Once I learned that if I control the things I have control over and hope for the best on the things I can't control I will be better off. I try hard to live in the moment and not blame others for my bad decisions.
Darth Vader is such a great character. Broken one, definitely the best villain of all time.

Hello there
I got give it to Sidious
Its starkiller your all forgetting
That scream at the end of the first duel...It's harder than Maul could ever scream. Because Maul doesn't know Obi Wan like Anakin did: On a deeply personal level. He hates only 3 things in the galaxy:
His master; Darth Sidious. For ensnaring him in his trap and making him his pawn.
His old master; Obi Wan. For seemingly turning his wife against him and causing him to cook to medium well and having to wear the suit because of it.
But most of all; Himself. If you've ever struggled with depression, you know what I mean when I say "Darth Vader level depression". You want to die. Every day you want to either die or kill. Just to bury the utter emotional and mental agony of just being alive. You have tried to end it. Vader tried. Multiple times. But the Dark Side kept him alive (in his eyes) as some sick joke. But you can't die. However, you can't live either. You're in a walking coffin. Upright, and forced to go on living.
That scream at the end is not of a man...It's of a former man that's been reduced to an animal. Now a wounded and defeated animal. That can only snarl and shriek, despite knowing that it's been beaten.
That's all, thanks for letting me ramble.
That was beautifully described, thank you.
Hope you overcome depression mate. Heard of prozac?

OBI-WAN!!!
This is such a poignant moment in the Obi Wan series BUT it was SO WONDERFUL to see Anakin/Vader, LOVE Hayden!.
GOAT scene in Star Wars.
Agreed. I'm on season 6 in my first viewing of Clone Wars. Anakin had so much character development in this series that missed out on over the years. He used to be so noble, heroic, and even wise. He was someone that commanded respect, as opposed to the whinny angsty kid in the movies.
This climactic scene in Kenobi hit so much harder, now knowing who Vader once was... And everything he lost.
@@mRibbons Very true about Clone Wars. If people aren’t watching that series, then they’re missing out on a HUGE chunk of the story. I’d even include Rebels as essential viewing.
IMHO, the scene at the end, after his mask gets hit.... is probably the best 120 seconds of Hayden in all of Star Wars... and pretty close to the top for ALL of Star Wars.
@@Shikta-poobah67 Yo, I got distracted by other shows but I'm on the last 2 episodes of Clone Wars final season. They are sure to be climactic... But I got a baaad feeling about this.
Where do I go next with the animated shows?? Rebels?
The Obi Wan series had several problems, but it also had some downright great moments. Seeing an exploration of how Obi Wan came to terms with his brother was such a high point.

Anakin Skywalker is by far the best character in cinema history, he has so much depth both as a Jedi and as Vader
The level of emotion in Ewan's face for that scene just hits so hard
He became vader because Anakin had nothing left. but you can only bury yourself so far in your own pain. Anakins pain was called Vader
Darth Vader betrayed and murdered Anakin Skywalker
It wasn’t that he didn’t have anything left, it was that he chose the dark path, or rather the easy path. Yes, Anakin was broken, but we all are at some point in our lives. It’s the choices we make that seal our fate, and Anakin chose to seal his in a *HUGE* way.
No he still had his wife n kids when he was murdering younglings lol ankin died with mace windu
@@Shikta-poobah67 no he gave everything up cause he wanted to save everything he love and by doing that he literally kill and push everyone that love him
He was left alone in his eyes and his anger and hatred made him blind to the truth and once u go this far looking at the truth hurts u so u bury it u even warp the truth only reason he was save cause one of the ppl ge thought he lost cane back and pull him from his own abyss
@@InTateWeTrust1Not only was he trying to save that piece of ass padme, but Anakin legit thought at the time the Jedi were overthrowing the Republic, which of you look again...they were. They were sending Jedi to "take control" of the Senate and were about to assassinate the supreme chancellor. From a certain point of view, they did indeed fuck up.
Seeing Obi Wan in tears really makes you think about how torn and crazy it has driven him over the years. He took a major loss in life. Not only did he lose his comrades and job. He also lost something even more important a man he considered as a little brother. I can only imagine how mentally scarring That is. It’s like watching your loved one die infront of you. Seeing them go from a happy go lucky kid to a dark evil man. Obi wan is a war veteran who lost more then he gained. That’s part of why the other movie is called a new hope. Once obi finds luke (Anakin son) he also finds a new hope a reason to live on. A reason to not fall into madness and depression. Hope to bring the force, the jedi, and peace to the galaxy just like him and anakin wanted in the beginning.
The only complaint I have about this series is this element wasn't the focus. No one cared about some affie Inqusitor; it was all about Obi's emotional state and his quest to protect and stay hidden all at once.
he spent 3 years in a galactic war seeing countless atrocities and deaths. his lover was murdered by the same man who killed his master. everyone he knew was betrayed and murdered by the very clones they had fought beside. and his student his brother became a monster. destroying everything he loved. including (he thought) Ahsoka. only to then have to fight and kill (he thought) that same brother. then Padme's final words saying that there was still good in Anakin.............no wonder he broke.
My favorite part of this scene is how they portray the light on anakin’s face. The red for the sith when he speaks as Vader, and the blue for when he speaks as Anakin. It’s such a great subtle nod to him not completely being gone.
The villain so iconic and terrifying that simply the sound of him breathing scares his enemies.
The most emotional moment in Star Wars history. Nothing even comes close....absolutely nothing. I felt just as crushed as Obi-Wan in this scene.
I have a son who unfortunately went down the path of meth....the few times I've seen him, he was either high as a kite or momentarily sober....and the sadness in his eyes when he can understand where his life is, is heartbreaking. This video is the only thing I've ever seen that expresses what I feel when I see my son's face through the useless drugs. 😮💨

Two books for you to read (authored by Jewish people):
"I am Jewish" tributes to Judaism, in memory of Daniel Pearl; and
"The Fatal Embrace" , which assesses the historical Jewish affinity for authoritarian governments, which end up being taken over by anti-Semites and harming the Jewish population.
Your choice to read or not, but if you don't you will be blindsided by what's coming down the pike.
I love in the show that when we see his face his voice is ‘normal’ and blue light is on him, for a moment we see Skywalker...but the moment he said “I killed him,” Vader voice comes and red is shown. That right there gave me chills when I first saw it
It’s just the reflection from Obi’s saber. If you look closely his eye is always red, even behind the blue light.
@@roryt1983 But that's the message. Anakin truely is dead and his face turns red fully.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series had many flaws. But the series created a great moment when it lit a candle🕯of hope when the Anakin side of Darth took responsibility for his own turn to that dark side and lifted responsibility from the conscience of his friend and mentor.
Wow this is amazing. The half mask shot really did help to reinforce Hayden as Vader for the generation who grew up on the original trilogy and struggled to visualise him as the same Vader in the prequels.
what i really like about this scene with this music is the fact that with anakins scared face still partially visible, it really hits home the feeling of what vader said about anakin.... this... monster, isnt anakin anymore as the abomination made through pain and anger known as vader has taken hold of anakins body.....
ya know i have watched this like at least 10 times now and i watch it fully every time it pops up in my reccomended and i swear every time i see that scene of obi and vader, it makes me look at the light of their sabers on their faces and realise that some of what vader said really felt like anakin taking control even if only for a moment to simply say a farwell to obiwan before either he kills vader and subsequently, anakin, or before vader takes control again like anakin knows he will and kills obiwan. than at the very end when obiwan left vader and vader howled almost like a animal angry its prey escaped it.....
The kid with the world on his feet who lost it all even himself
What is having a world at your feet when the galaxy looms above you?
That ending with Obi Wan and Vader was perfect.

Anyone can do this to themselves by cutting off their own emotions. We all have a Vader inside of us, and it lies beyond your mind.
I wonder if it's the opposite. Anakin felt all his emotions deeply and didn't learn to harness and control them. So his emotions controlled him til he became Vader. Which you are correct on that part being almost emotionless. 'I find your lack of faith disturbing'
As anakin was meant to do with the force…
The answer lies in balance.
Acknowledging emotion, harnessing them, but not drowning in them and having them overwhelm you.
Sadly, as with so much in life, there will be those who have gone to the extremes at both ends of the scale, and in so doing, blind themselves to the middle ground, and see anyone different from themselves on the far end.
@@cre8gnr8nrg Fascinating. I think both are true...a dialectic.
Yep. Well said. I went full Vader at a certain point in my life, and came out the other side all the better for it.
@@Shikta-poobah67 I’m kinda going through it right now.. realizing that my emotions don’t represent my true self, and neither does anyone else’s emotions. I feel like I don’t truly know anyone, not even myself sometimes. That kind of mindset forces me into a darker place of loneliness for some reason and I don’t really know why yet.
If only the whole show was written like this…
The ''Goodbye... Darth..'' really hit me. It was in this moment that Obi-Wan accepted that Anakin is gone and there is nothing he can do to bring him back, he could finally move on from the past that haunts him.
Having lost my dearest friend to the dark side or whatever is going through him, this just hits so damn hard.
I always die a little on the inside when I hear “it’s too late for me son” because he wants to come back but he can’t forgive himself and I know that feeling all too well
Completely agree. It's like Vader, after he cuts off Mace's hand, pretty much believes he is beyond redemption. Which in part is the fault of the Jedi. Their teachings of simply black and white, with "you're either good or bad" basically made Anakin give up on himself. That's where the whole "it's too late for me, son" line comes from. Of all the Sith, Anakin was probably the only one who never completely let go of the light. He just accepted his fate that he gave into the dark side and was beyond salvation.
Wait a tick... I have a different take. Anakin knew he was going to physically die, the body was spent. However, I think he also knew he'd been redeemed. That's why he also says "You already did" when Luke says he needs to save him.
I’m about to do a cross-universe dialogue:
Simba: Dad? …Dad? Dad, come on. You gotta get up. Dad. We gotta go home.
|
Darth Vader: (Distant) It’s too late for me son.
Yup. I feel this every day. Wallowing in regret and hate only because you can’t go back and fix anything. You hate yourself for doing the dumbest selfish thing - just a fleeting thought. For one moment and then EVERYGING went to shot. I hate myself. I live in regret of what could’ve been. I am reminded every day that I am a mistake and just want to go to sleep for good.
Man, could you imagine going back in time to June of 1977 and approaching people as they get out of the theater, whipping out your phone and showing them this?
This was masterful in its execution. Painful and elegant. The perfect synopsis of Anakin to Vader. Im what remains.
I love the blending of the imperial March with the hero themes/Padme themes
Anakin Skywalker has to be one of the most painfully tragic characters ever created. I think what makes Anakin and Darth Vader so appealing to so many is that deep down many of us if not all of us understands the struggle that lurks deep within. All of us have an internal conflict and often our choices are made from it. I was 5 when A New Hope came out and have watched every movie and read every book. Anakin's story arc is simply tragic. Being able to see his full story has opened up what he has been through. From being a slave to watching his mother die and feeling helpless in saving the love of his life though he had immense power. We can all understand going down that path and losing faith. You have to find your balance what ever it may be. Reading a book, watching a movie, talking with someone you trust, or spending time with loved ones. If you don't you will in time see that the very thing you are fighting against is yourself. Beautfully made video!
Haydens half mask performance is A class acting. You can only see half his face but yet see and feel the emotion in ever movement and tone. A truly underrated actor.
The cutting in and out of Anakins voice and Vader literally gives me chills. So good.
The best kinds of villains are the ones who can never go back. As much as the want to, they've gone too far. It was only through the love of his son that Darth Vader had died and Anakin was reborn for one last time. He got to see his son and be proud of the man he had became
And in so doing yielded the deeper title of that movie
For the longest time, my friends, my family and myself all assumed that simply referred to Luke…not anakin…
What I love most about Anakin's story is that, it doesn't matter how much you've gone through, what you've done, you can CHANGE today, right now, in every moment we can make a choice to DO what we know is right and keep moving forward. It's never to late if you can believe.
The dialogue after the Obi-Wan/Vader duel in Kenobi was written and performed so carefully. They worked so hard to make the conversation during the duel in A New Hope make more sense in-universe and I think they did a great job. That's really not easy without coming across as too on the nose or just plain silly. Loved it.
I haven’t been moved by much when it comes to the “ newer “ Star Wars films / series , but goddam this scene was about as gut wrenching powerful as you could get . Bravo I say .

Lol 💀💀💀
When I was a child I always felt like I was Anakin. My dad was in and out of my childhood and I was raised by my mom. Everyone always said how gifted and kind they thought I was. Then as a teenager I lost my mother.
My self hatred grew and grew. Everyone still said that I was a good person and I wanted good. I felt that way too. Then the girl I thought I loved cheated on me with my childhood best friend. My hatred for the world started.
Then I realized the world is evil. People don't want to be good like I thought they did. My hatred for politics and other people grew.
I feel more and more like Vader everyday. I tattood him on me because I feel such a connection to him.
The moral of the story is this. Vaders story is real. We may not be able to use the force but you can destroy yourself because you can't let go.
Cringe
This is easily one if the greatest scenes in the entire series.
The line delivery of “I am what remains” is SO GOOD. Accentuated with the voice distortion it becomes even better.
I find it crazy how when I see Darth Vader I don't see Anakin and vice versa, but when his helmet is split apart like that it's almost like I can see them switching between the two during the dialogue. Even seeing Anakin as a burnt up angry mess full of hatred I can still only see Anakin and not Darth Vader until he has the suit on. You can tell that Obi Wan almost feels the same
The end of that scene from Obi-Wan was quite emotional. At first when Obi-Wan addressed him as Anakin and then after their exchange when Obi-Wan said goodbye Darth, it was just totally heartbreaking to see what Anakin had truly become.
Knowing that Vader returns to the light makes this so sad, like he desperately wanted Obi-Wan to not give up on him. Then knowing that the last person in the universe to have faith in him gave up hope, must have hurt even more. Increasing his self-hatred and making him even stronger in the dark side. There was still hope for Vader, but Obi-Wan just could not figure out how to help him, so he gave up. It took Luke willing to give his life for Vader to finally get through to him. It took someone having more faith in him than he had in himself, to allow him to have hope that he could come back to the light.
It brings a new meaning to "A New Hope" for me, that maybe it wasn't hope for the galaxy from the Empire. It was just foreshadowing Luke's hope that his father could return to the light. A new hope for Anakin to return to the light. Episodes 1-6 are all about Anakin after all. His training, rise, fall, reign and eventually redemption. Not diminishing Luke's importance of course, without him there would be no redemption.
Give this man an award for making this
that kenobi scene is worth the whole series. the screenplay, script and acting is so powerful
The story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is truly a tragedy. A tale of pain, loss, and redemption. Anakin lost everything, it broke him into becoming a villain. Vader is a character that lets us see what happens if a person gives into anger, hate, and being unforgiving. Still my favorite Star Wars character to this day. May the force be with you.
That was one of the most epic Star Wars edits I have ever seen. The emotional build was amazing. I had chills

The biggest thing with Anakins/Vaders story is that you connect with the character at a deeper level than most any other television series, book series, movie series etc. etc. This same story could be told, with the only difference being that you simply don't get the level of detail to the characters backstory, and you wouldn't have anything that would even come close to what you have here. Very well done. Almost brought a tear to my eye. So fortunate to start seeing the first SW move as a child in the theater. And then watch the mystery behind Darth unfold thru time. And you grow to love this sinister character, and you can't wait to see him enter a scene with his awesome presence.

This is freaking legendary the character arcs in SW are so good. Thank you broh God bless
Wow! Well done! Definitely one of my favorites!
Wow. This brought tears to my eyes. Such a powerful story, the pain and torment of Anakin and his turn to dark side thinking he could save his love. Then there’s obi wans Pain of losing his brother, his friend to the dark side. Great mix keep up the good work 👍
The lust and quest for power can really leave a man broke physically and mentally. Everyone can choose to be an Anakin, but not everyone becomes a Vader. Such a tragic story.
*WHAT, my friend will you BECOME!!!??*
Nice work on the edits and storytelling! Really enjoyed it thoroughly
Incredible video, really well done!
This scene broke my heart. This show was amazing.
This scene, for me, made the entire Kenobi series worthwhile. The fight and this conversation...perfection and what Star Wars was meant to be. Well made video.
Like Anakin Skywalker, I lost everything I feared to lose. I’m 29 and within the past 3 years I lost a child to an abortion, found out a child wasn’t mine and had my heart broken by the betrayal of these two women. I definitely understand his pain, suffering and most of all his anger. I understand being so broken that you no longer recognize or relate to your old self before the pain. No one should have to go through such tragedies in life…not even the ones who committed such tragedies.
I'm so sorry for your loss and all you went through, I can relate I lost my dad earlier this year and I still haven't fully recovered. Sometimes I'm scared ill turn into vader in some ways, I hope you're doing well man don't let that pain take control of you, stay strong
@@xXHavocGamerXx thank you and I hope you stay on the path of light. I pray you heal and that things get better over time.
0:21 I like that this is a mirror of what Ashoka saw in Rebels with the exposed part of Anakins face, but Kenobi's the one that sees it this time.
Hers was also on the opposite side of his mask
They both got partly through to Anakin but only Luke did it all.
Five minutes with more empathy, more emotional resonance than three movies.
"Anakin is gone,...I'm what remains...
I am not your failure Obi Wan,...You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker,..I did.."
That has gone down as 1 of the most epic moments in Star Wars history...
I've watched this so many times,.I keep watching it,..
Truly magnificent editing work...
👏👏👏
Still my favorite character in any movie is by far Darth Vader. He did everything for love, in the end it was love that redeemed him.
Until he started doing everything out of hate.

That was one of the most beautiful things I think I've seen done as a tribute to Star Wars .... Anywhere, ever!!
The scenes, yes, we've all seen them a thousand times, but never like this. You've somehow managed to wring Moore emotion out of, what was it, five minutes? Yeah, five minutes of Star Wars than I thought I'd seen since I was a fifteen yr old at the cinema in the 1970s, seeing it for the first time in Town Hall Hoyt's Cinema Complex, in Sydney, Australia. My God, I think I just had a "flash back" mate.
P.S - This channel is criminally underated. I know that gets said a lot, but NEVER BEFORE BY ME!!!
Now, have a like and a new Subscriber, but you better not have peaked already, because I will be recommending you to others, so keep it up mate!!
This gave me chills down my whole body
May the force be with you.
Hey there. I couldn't help but notice that you've clearly taken a lot of inspiration from my tribute, so much so that you even copied and pasted my description lol. Now I fully understand that you've made this your own and it is indeed an amazing edit, but I've noticed that you've done this a few times already with other editors and if it's going to be how you run your channel in the future, I'd appreciate you crediting those who have inspired you. The most challenging thing about being an editor isn't the editing process itself, but the planning process of how to map out the video from start to finish, and this is something that deserves credit if being used as a source of inspiration. I hope this message does get to you, and I hope you have a wonderful day :)
Yikes.
Oof
Hey there. You had me. Until I took the time to watch…. And heard that you also clipped “destroy”.
Don’t whine until you actually make something of professional quality. Otherwise you’re just another copy cat and nobody cares.
And if any of that makes you mad…. good. Let it motivate you to do better!
@@PaulPrance as a small time editor trying to reach a higher level of quality with each video, it can be a little hurtful. I do indeed see it as a source of motivation, but at the same time, small time editors including myself should try our best to achieve growth by creating content as original as possible. I do understand if my comment may have come across as a bit "salty", but I couldn't help but bring it to his attention. I actually consider myself lucky to have someone being inspired by one of my edits. May I ask though, what do you mean by saying that I had also clipped 'destroy'?
@@HZEditsYT hi mate, don’t bite, I looked at both videos (this one first) and it is very obvious the content is effectively stolen. Ignore these random comments as replying to them, even though politely as you did, will never work in your favour. Keep up the good work, hopefully you don’t have to deal with this again.
