This is why just “moving away from the Skywalkers” isn’t going to fix anything. They messed up the Skywalker timeline and they’ll mess up any other timeline(including the Old Republic with Revan). They just keep on making the same mistakes.
the budget is simple, 50M for THE SHILL CRITICS (which shill critic willing to do for free?) and advertising. another 50M is for the president and the creator/writers. Only 50M for the movie productions. 20M is for special effects (which is cheap and CGI is so bad), finally the final budget is to pay for the actors/actress. In disney budget, there always a hidden cost that we will know one years later.
I see how Disney is ripping apart my favorite childhood series and it makes me cry. Disney killed Star Wars, they are just dragging its corpse around now
7:43 Her character was killed by a knife to the chest! In other Disney/Lucasfilm shows, characters took light sabers to the gut and survived ... just a flesh wound.🤷🏽♀️
Yord is evil (calling it now). The only characters from SW that I can recall ever appearing shirtless on screen were Darkside users: Anakin (as he was falling towards the Darkside), Kylo, and now Yord, who seems to enjoy watching people from afar too much to be a completely good guy.
"Now attack me with all your strength.” Omfg, that line Mae uses to bait the jedi into fighting. So bad in writing and delivery. But it's not even the worst part of the show, I timed out before the end of E02.
For everyone saying this is "woke", ask yourself, "If the characters were all white males, would the show magically be better?" - The answer is NO. Stop blaming Diversity for bad writing. X-Men '97 was "woke" and it was AWESOME.
The "woke" part is letting a lesbian who has never produced anything helm a Star Wars show just so they can say a lesbian helmed a Star Wars show. Handing the keys of a franchise to someone so inexperienced would be a bad idea regardless of their gender and sexuality. The only thing about the show itself that's "woke" is how ostentatiously "diverse" it is. That was actually one of first things Disney let us know about the show. Diversity is fine but it by itself shouldn't be a selling point for a Star Wars show and there comes a point where it just seems obnoxiously try-hard. Like not even one Jedi youngling can be a white boy?
@@BiggieTrismegistus But we can name things that are also Star Wars related that sucked that wasn't helmed by a lesbian. Andor (the first half), The Boring Batch (the last 2 seasons), Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Boba Fett. All mostly underwhelming. As for the the diversity in casting, that's a good thing. 45 years ago, Carl Sagan said diversity was one of the things Episode 4 was missing. The fact that they now have humans that all look different, and a female protagonist that isn't a white brunette is a good thing. If you think not seeing a white male youngling in this series is a problem, imaging being a latino Star Wars fan in the 80s and 90s! We wouldn't see someone who looked like us until Bail Organa, Kanan Poe and Mando! The diversity in characters is good. It's the story that's kinda boring.
This is like the reason why I never bothered to watch Acolyte. I saw the trailer and it looked absolutely terrible, so I decided “I’m not doing this” and I decided to stop watching Disney Star Wars
I think the greatest failure for this show will be the explanation we get for why a Jedi would willingly take poison after meditation for 10 straight years. And why Osha, who is doing this all because she thought her sister was killed, doesnt stop after seeing her alive. I can not wait for what underwhelming reasoning they come up with.
I don't know about this reviewer but in general it's because many Star Wars fans are now the exact opposite: haters waiting in the bushes for the first opportunity to attack. I was fully in agreement when the dumpster fire of The Last Jedi came out, but since then there's been both good and bad. Unfortunately we've reached a point tho where the "fans" will literally attack ANYTHING. Look how many people in the comments reveling in the complaints mention having not even watched it!

I’m getting pretty tired of the Star Wars “fans” all they do is shit on anything that comes out. I remember people complaining about how bad Andor was when only a few episodes were out.
Truly, I cannot understand where the money goes for these shows based on the way they look. With Andor, you can see the money invested in building Ferrix, it feels so lived in, even to the PreMor Security station which was only in three episodes, felt like a real place. It was dirty, some stuff laying about, etc. Where is the money in these other shows?! It feels like the whole US military controversy in the 90s finding out a $1 bolt cost them $25 from contractors. Wild. Is it embezzlement? Money laundering? Make it make sense…
12:06 I’m soo happy you called out that binoculars BS, that annoyed me so much and also made me laugh out loud at the same time. The rest of the episode seemed like a huge joke to me after that. Also when the sith ends up being poison guy I will be both not surprised disappointed at the same time
I wonder who the mysterious sith person is. Suddenly main character is sidelined by a Jedi for the dumbest reasons. Hard to tell if it's bad writing to force a plot line or if that person is a sith or working with them
Me not growing up with Star wars is easily one of the best things ever. My childhood in terms of sci fi content to name a few :) Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw star, Akira 1988, VhD: Bloodlust & Nausicaä of the Valley of the wind.
7:47 i think thats part of the plan, i don’t think they want us to care about the jedi, they want us to care about the "underdog" , the sith or whoever the jedi are "opresssing"....
6:05 It's not hard to have "good ideas" when you're literally just pilfering them from other, better filmmakers. The hard part is the execution, which is genuinely pathetic in The Hackolyte. Headland should be legally banned from ever mention Rashomon, Kill Bill, or even the Prequels again.
I hate how the Wardrobe all looks new fresh of the rack, the Universe is supposed to be lived in, unless their rich, their clothes should look used. It is honestly really distracting looking at these fresh new clothes
what grinds my gear is, this is going on for so many years now. they produce stuff, which barely breaks even, or making some profit but the majority is being torn apart by the fans. dont they have people to check the fandom? so bob iger knows whats going on? doesnt he have agents to check him in on things? also why are high carat actors like carrie anne moss signing up for this shit? just to die after 6 minutes, even though some trailers show some different footage of her, maybe flashbacks? i watched the acolyte last night and i was star strucked how bad it was. one of the most rediculous scenes was when mae threw that "jammer/hacking device" on the door guard robot and it lands at the same place that is exposed all the time anyway, so why she needed this girl to get the robot out of hiding? and then at the credits the first "minute" you only see leslys name, this is just a vanity project
they should make all of the city shots and space with models like they used to. I would try and make almost all aliens non CGI. They rely on CGI too much, probably because it saves time more than anything.
I didn’t want to judge it before I watched it but as soon as I saw the director say this was “going to be the gayest Star Wars ever” I knew this franchise is toast. And so far she’s right it is the gayest Star Wars ever congrats, instead of cool space wizards we get whatever Yord is. So sad to watch them destroy something that was once so great. Somehow George Lucas made some of the best movies with a quarter of the budget these shows get, where is the money going? Can they not afford to go shoot on site instead of a set? Somehow they manage to make Star Wars look bland and boring in all the Disney+ shows
I dont wana put in the effort to write a large comment (I think the series is pretty bland), but I do not think people are making a good point with the knife thing. Is all the people surviving lightsabers stupid? Yes Is someone dying from getting a knife IN THEIR HEART stupid? No? Like, you can imagine someone surviving getting a lightsaber through your body. Unlikely? Yes. Overused? Hell yes. But posible. Getting stabbed IN THE HEART isnt survivable.
its only had two episodes released and people are calling it a "failure". Like chill lmao at least wait until the full thing has released before you go criticizing.
This show is not getting a fair shot at all. It received a crazy amount of hate before even being released. I'll admit that the trailers didnt get me hyped. But the series is fine so far, not great or terrible. It is a step up from book of boba fett and obi wan. With an entirely new set of characters, I am interested in where they go with it. After two episodes, I didn't expect to have this sentiment.
This was a great balanced take on the show. You're not hate watching it like some butt hurt middle aged guys, but you're not a disney shill. Appreciate the insight.
People are making way too much about the continuity jeopardy of having a sith lord in this show. One of the core plot points in the prequels was how corrupt and useless the jedi had become. It's easy to hand wave away that someone covered up the existence of the sith lord or just outright deny that he is a sith lord. I mean, they had a sith lord in their government for decades and had no idea. Prequel jedi where fucking useless as an org.
The agenda is more important than good, well writen story lines, good acting and creating heros we can cheer for. Disney can't go belly up fast enough !!
Is no one gonna talk about the fact that there is literally a Wookie Jedi and it uses the force like bruh what? I got a kick out of that I swear if the wookie uses a lightsaber I’m gonna have a field day with that one
Honestly, your Star Wars video essays are way more refreshing than the more culture war tinged ones that are moreseo just shallow ideological rants that feel like they had a predetermined result before the show even came out. By contrast, your work here feels like genuine critique that's actually reviewing the early episodes based on their own merits, while also doing a good job of putting into words my problems with 95% of modern Star Wars besides Andor and parts of the Mandalorian etc. I think there's too many content creators and commentators that just take the easy path and say that most of Disney SW is bad because it's "woke", but never actually stop to be critical enough to analyze why they find it bad. So I'm always happy to see more balanced/normie criticism that isn't just feeding into the endless culture war loop where love/hate of a show is determined by how left/right wing you are.
You ever see how fast mold can take over bread... ...that's Disney. They're that mold on your favorite sourdough. Once it begins, there's no stopping it.
Dune 1 & 2 had similar budgets and both movies look like they were 10x bigger and more expensive than this show. That's because vision, great set design, and cinematography matter just as much as the budget behind them. The Acolyte looks and feels like a fan fiction because for many of the people working in front and behind the camera that's all any of them would be allowed to do if not for DEI and identity politics inserting them into unmerited positions they have no qualifications for. What on Leslye Headland's resume would ever make her a top pick to be a showrunner/producer/director/writer on a high budget action sci-fi series. Nothing. The answer is absolutely nothing.
Godzilla minus one is amazing, but keep in mind it looks the way it does because people sacrificed a lot for it. The budget should have been higher for the work people did. The director himself completed shots and sent people home. While I can believe he did that with some of the shots, I can't believe he was the only one working over time for free.

This show is not getting a fair shot at all. It received a crazy amount of hate before even being released. I'll admit that the trailers didnt get me hyped.

The Acolyte looks and feels like a fan fiction because for many of the people working in front and behind the camera that's all any of them would be allowed to do if not for DEI and identity politics inserting them into unmerited positions they have no qualifications for.
