From the depths of my nerdy heart, thank you to everyone who clicked on this video to watch my Darth Vader fan film!
This was a passion project fueled by my love for Star Wars, and I'm so appreciative of all the people who helped me make it. A special thanks to Devin Mombourquette for elevating this project beyond what I could have done alone.
We give a lot of critiques and praises to films on this channel, but it's a great feeling to present our own project to the scrutiny of an audience. Whether you love it, hate it, or thought it was meh, thank you for giving it a chance. Maybe one day I'll have an actual budget!
Happy May 4th, and may the Force be with you.
If you'd like to see an original animated short film we did, check out "The Little Alien": ruclips.net/video/XT3tS4ElMck/видео.html
May the 4th be with you
great job but not sure why Vader asked the other guy "Is it him?" shouldn't he be able to sense Luke? other than that it's great. Love the inner conflict. We all have light and dark in us, it's the acknowledgement of it and the knowledge of our own ability to choose which to listen to that is the deciding factor. that is where the real power lies. the gift of free will.
This was great I hope to see more.
@@Hobodeluxe007 I think it's fair to say there was a large enough physical distance that he couldn't tell right away. He didn't notice Kenobi until he was on the actual Death Star with him, and these X-Wings were pretty far out by the time the ISD's popped in.
Bad Ass brother ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great work guys!
😄
Hi Theory!
yessir!
I love how supportive you are to other fan film creators!
Holden primarily makes reaction content but made a Star Wars video, then Star Wars Theory made a reaction to it. The circle is complete
"You have become the nightmare that kept you scared as a child" I felt that
A very powerful piece of dialog indeed. Most powerful. If they have any sense, they give you official credit, and make this cannon.
@@scottbraun2457its spelt canon
Screw Disney these guys really need to start writing Star wars films
At this rate, I predict Disney Star Wars will be so worthless that Disney will have to sell it to save money. That is the only way it could be saved, if a fan buys it.
I absolutely love the part where Vader and Anakin are going back-and-forth quoting the Jedi Code and the Sith Code
Oh yeah, nice call back to KotOR!
❤❤❤❤
Those codes have been writen already. So no original dialogue on this crappy short
@@JedimillerReturns That is pretty much the point. They took the epic codes, and put them into a context where they gain a really strong meaning. Not every single line has to be original, I like the tie-in.
@@The_Nameless_1 same old lines. Over and over. Guess these people not very good writers
Vader facing himself in a light side force cave, mirroring Luke facing his dark side self in the dark side Dagobah cave, is such a good idea. Awesome Vader costume and voice too
It's like poetry, it rhymes

In Star Wars, we always hear "this place is strong with the dark side" but we never go to an area strong with the light, until today.
This!! 👆
True. This is a good sign.
Probably because thematically it makes ZERO sense. The Force is the unifying energy binding the galaxy together, so literally every world is strong in the Force. The whole “light/dark”-thing is arbitrary and nonexistent.
I thought this was a very good reminiscence of the cave scene on Episode V, but this time it was the other way around. Very well played, my friend. Bravo!
Illum, later Starkiller base. Also there's Jedha
Finally the starfighters maneuver in space like they're supposed to!
Hi:
I was 13 when I saw the 1977 film A New Hope. Several years later, I saw a documentary about the making of the movie. George Lucas was using old Dog Fighting techniques from WW2. That's why the Dog Fights looked antiquated, and out of sorts in the vacuum of space. I am glad this fan film took the laws of physics, into consideration.
Reminded me of Battlestar Galactica. That's not a bad thing.
And the laser blast actually arc away in the direction of travel like bullets actually would.
Thought the same as in leading their shot when fireing.
Saw the original in '77. Well done guys,!!
The implication that a sith in the place of great light side energy sees the same strange sort of visions Jedi do in places of the dark side is just- chefs kiss!
I wish Lucasfilm still did stuff this good.
Kylo literally had a comic where this happened lol, there are stories like these within books ect, HELL vaders first storyline post rots was all about this
They're only concerned with implanting Marxist propaganda in Star Wars now. That is the main objective in their movie making and many other Hollywood studios.
Hello, Star Wars fans! I've been working on the VFX here for nearly two years now. It's insane to see this is actually about to hit all these eyeballs after all this time. This massive, all-consuming, often frustrating task was a huge love letter to a franchise that I, like so many of you, grew up with. The intro was originally supposed to be a few short shots, but in my stubbornness I insisted on something grandiose to appease my inner 5-year old. I could've kept working on this until the day I died, so luckily Holden drew a line in the sand and said "May 4th is the day."
Still, it's so weird to finally let it go and leave it with all of you now. I hope you like it.
-Devin
Love all the work you do Devin! Can’t wait to see it
Really great work, hope Corridor Crew sees and reacts to it!
Awesome work dude got more goose bumps watching that than anything disneys put out!! Thank you for your love and passion of the franchise, and May the 4th be with you, just watch out of Revenge of the 6th
Your work is nothing short of incredible! Thank you for bringing this to life
@@scorchedxearthx27017 And thank YOU for being in these projects as well! It's so good to see everything finally come together!
That shot with the x wing being destroyed half a second before jumping to hyperspace was incredible and a really interesting ideal, keep up the good work.
Thank you! That's one of the shots I actually painted out before animating. I knew what I wanted it to look like, but making it happen was a lot of brain juice.
My jaw dropped at that scene

This fan-short should be a canon event days before the return of the Jedi.
It just fits.
It's now canon in my head
@@marmur2909 In mine, too.
I'll go a step further, I propose this short to be actually integrated into the official canon, with the creators of it getting a full financial compensation from Disney as an acknowledgement of their good work, so they won't be out of pocket.
This is much better than Disney's so-called "sequel trilogy".
Yep. They are making more crap right now. I hear Rian Johnson is going to be involved again...
its not sequel its shitquel
No it isnt.
There he is. There's always some idiot that comments that. Imagine if this fan filme actually turned out to be made by Disney. If that's so, it sucks completely doesn't it? The writing, the sound effects, it's all full of shit. But no, it's a fan film, so it's automatically 200 times better than anything a multi billionaire company could ever do, despite their success by making stuff like the mandalorian, andor, rogue one, and a much more.
@@thomazplays9305 yes accept it. multi billion dollar companies are eveil woke and greedy, thats why the can do shit. on the other hand the amateurs know that the fans do because they want it themselves. no go back to your cave and watch movies that fund people that turn children gay.
Vader walking on sand was wild
I Hate Sand, It's Rough and Course and Irritating and It Gets EVERYWHERE
Not like he can feel it now...
Yeah people can change 😋
He had the walk from Office Space, gansta style
Yes. VADER, not Anakin.
Both Vaders reciting the Jedi and Sith Creed is everything!!!
Meh. No originality
This fan-film is extraordinary. It perfectly highlights the conflict Vader had. His darkness and his light. The voice of Vader is incredible, the suits are incredible. I love how the light side of Vader fought similarly to Anakin, while Vader himself uses his own fighting style. Truly a masterpiece.
Okay the shot of Vader getting in his tie. Thank you. That has never been seen.
I would have just clicked x if he summersaulted into it. I'm so pleased that he didn't.
So weird to see him board it the same way as putting his action figure in the toy vehicle.
Would be funny to see his tie fighter take a hit then an airbag deploys and its all up in his face while he's trying to fly
Holden, dude, this was amazing. Congrats to you and the team behind this. Vader's tie fighter's blaster bolt hitting the X-Wing at the exact moment it was about to launch into hyperspace - insane! Never even imagined what that would look like. Well done!
how he destroyed the xwing right before it jumped was crazy
X-Wing: Holdo maneuver!
Vader: NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
i'm 2 minute in. NO FUCKING WAY THIS IS FAN MADE. This is literally the best fan made movie ive ever seen, this puts everything Disney+ did in the past 6 years to shame, how is no one funding this studio??????
Copyright, that's why. Wait until 2073.
This isn't the best. But the fighter scene was exactly what it should be. They made it better than Disney. Lucasfilm should have outsource their production team
Disney Budget: 1 Billion

At this point, I'm not sure if saying something is "better than Disney" is actually a compliment, but this is better than Disney.
Beat me to it. LOL
C-SPAN is better than Disney
"You've become the nightmare that kept you scared as a child" What a great dialogue, loved it. Amazing job guys!!!
Cool detail of how one Darth uses one hand on the lightsaber while fighting as a callback to the original trilogy and his fight style while the other Darth uses both hands to symbolize Anakin
Love that you picked up on this
Shooting these scenes, that was a very specific point I hoped to deliver in my fighting style while performing as Vader. Huge props to Holden for capturing it perfectly to bring it to life!
May the Force be with you- A.G.
Vader only uses one hand very briefly at the start of the ESB duel and that's it.
@@jeremydrew1227 It's become a thing in comics and ancillary media that Vader only ever uses one handed techniques against opponents he's confident he'll beat.
He was confident he'd win.
His light half was not.
It's been retconned (by Filoni's Clone Wars no less) that this was also a trait of Anakin's.
I want you to know that I legitimately forgot I was watching a fan film a minute or two in- really incredible work
I really appreciate hearing stuff like this. I’ve been staring at 3D models and animation graphs for so long that I wasn’t sure how it would look for other people. I’m glad you guys are enjoying it!
Exactly what I was going to say! Very immersive, from FX to sound and a great story well told! Makes me wish this was canon...like the Marvel comics between movies back in my day!
@@DMFX1The visuals were definitely the stand out here, for me at least.
I personally feel like the temple scene would've hit harder if the ghost actually looked somewhat like Anakin rather than just Vader with a blue saber, even if the actor you chose wasn't a perfect resemblance it still would've been a nice contrast. Other than that though, this film was perfect! So many awesome details and visuals and acting, many moments where it felt like an official Star Wars movie that would be released today.
Perhaps the real future of Star Wars is not the big budget productions, but more of this. Where fans understand the nature of the content and and how to the story is to be told. This has the feel of the originals and kept me captivated. Well done!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I wasn't expecting Lord Helmet from Spaceballs to turn up to fight Vader.
The name is Dark Helmet not Lord Helmet!
I know! I enjoyed the short film, but that second Vader helmet looked HUGE!
Lmao i bet she gives great helmet 😂😂😂
hahaha, i was thinking the same thing :D
Yeah that killed it for me, fat Vader.
Wait. WTF did I just watch??? This is the most amazing Fan Film I have ever seen. As someone who fiddled with the idea of a SW Fan Film 20 years ago but never got around to it, I am appreciative of all the work and dedication that went into it. It was basically indistinguishable from the real movies. Congratulations and thanks for making this.
THE BLOCKING. The way the camera and actors were plotted out (especially during the space action) was absolutely TOP TIER.
Star Wars belongs to the fans forever! I’m blown away by this, disney is absolutely clueless in how to make anything good
Star Wars is never dead as long as there are fans like you who keep it alive. Disney can't take this from us.
Proof that Disney/Lucas has lost its way. If we can find a way to monetize fan films of this quality, fans could take back the franchises we love.
Thank you for all the hard work put into this, bravo!
It is baffling and heart warming, that the Star Wars Fanbase still clings to this day to their franchise and release quality content far more precious than the official ones.
Thank you Holden for the opportunity to share my inner Palpatine! Well done my friend!
I am truly baffled at the execution of the short film. Yes it’s true I still think Star Wars sucks but knowing that a single artist and one editor made this on a shoestring budget is truly unbelievable. Great work to everyone that made this.
HAPPY STAR WARS DAY, MATT!! #MayThe4thBeWithYou

I am blown away by the quality of this fan film, it looks like you had a major movie studio budget for this, blown away by this, the best fan film quality I've ever seen
Somebody give this guy access to a full production team!
Thank you, I fully agree
Definitely Vader comics level
Love when the lightsaber goes blue
It was almost white for a second. At least, from what I saw
@@JEF_WThat's probably due to the lighting to be honest. It's very bright behind Anakin in the scene
This was better than what Disney gave us in the new trilogy combined.
The detail of using the white lightsaber to represent Anakin was perfect. In the lore, a white lightsaber is the product of a purified red Sith saber. Such a minute detail that went under appreciated.
This is one of the best looking fan films I've seen.
Don't get me wrong I love a flashy lightsaber battle. Yet the best Star Wars fanfilms are always those that you actually can add as your personal headcanon to the story as something that happened we just never got to see it. Without needing to do some mental gymnastic and rewrites. And this clears that bar with ease. Well done.
At last some real Star Wars what a labour of love some fans are amazing
Bro! The production value on this was top notch! Really blew me away! The cinematography was incredible! Definitely top 3 fan films I've ever saw! Loved the story too! I could see some of these shot holding up on the big screen. Like Vader boarding his ship and the battle after. Man that was cool! Thanks for making this! Disney killed any hope i had for Star Wars and you gave me hope again.
This is a fantastic addition to Star Wars lore. Thanks for letting me be a small part of such a fun experience!
I usually watch about 3 minutes of fan films and I’m in to the next. I watched this twice. The Attention to detail and effects shots are amazing. I can tell you put your whole heart in every shot. Absolutely awesome. I loved the x wing breaking up as it entered the atmosphere. Looked like real models were used!! This made my 4th. My inner child thanks you to Endor and back.
Everyone who worked on this should be very proud.
OUTSTANDING. Clearly written by a true Star Wars fan and not a political ideologue. Thank you. Disney, fire Kathleen Kennedy and hire Holden Hardman.
Impressive, MOST impressive!
A fine edition to add to my fan film collection
Within the first minute of this SHORT film. I have seen excellent production quality from thjs random guy on RUclips than a multi billion dollar company. This is an accomplishment worthy of recognition. Impressive, most impressive.
Sometimes the fans can show Disney a thing or two. Why doesn’t Disney tell these kinds of short stories?? Beautiful work.
This was absolutely amazing. Truely respectful to the OG and Prequel trilogies. Loved how you got to actually show us the struggle that vader faced after his encounter with Luke. Absolutely brilliant.
Never ceases to amaze me how sw fans can make better and passionate fan films with a much smaller budget yet can still tell a compelling story.
Good job guys! MTFBWY!
HOLY SH*T This is Awesome!! As soon as I realized neither of the X-wing pilots were Luke, I said to myself 'Both of you guys are screwed!! This is Anakin you're flying against! You don't have a chance.' But the best part was definitely the 2nd half: Vader facing his Light-side Force consciousness. And of course the cameo at the very end... *_Paz is back!!_*
Amazing work. The production quality for a fan film is outstanding. Thank you for your hard work. Really enjoy this!
Holden. This was quite extraordinary as Annikin/Vader is the very literary essence of a tortured yet the greatest hero and villain in one. Luke is more powerful due to Vaders suit. This was genius. If Disney had an ounce of intelligence not stupidity you could have written for them. This would unite all fans. There is no Star Wars w/o the skywalkers. Bravo
THIS IS AMAZING AND SHOULD BE A MOVIE!!! GIVE THIS MAN A BIG BUDGET FOR A FILM
This is the first time I've been blown away entirely by a fan film. The attention to detail, the story, shots, sfx, cgi, acting, music... I would be honored to collab with you someday. Best Vader show we never got. 10/10
I just restarted it a 3rd time.. help
Also I just put this up on all my socials cuz it's incredible
The subtleties- like Vader getting into his starfighter ARE WHAT STAR WARS IS ALL ABOUT. Thank you!!!
BLOWN UP ENTERING HYPERSPACE!? I don’t know this rebel but I shed a tear -now this is pod racing!
"I've been looking forward to this."
Can't wait to see it Holden, all the hard work put into this over the years has paid off!
May the fourth be with you!!
I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THESE AREN'T SEEN ON THE big screen, REAL SHAME!!!
Edit: PLEASE MAKE THE VADER SERIES WE'LL NEVER SEE ON Disney PLEASE!
Amazing how FANS are making better Star Wars than Disney is! WELL DONE!
disney been real quiet since this one dropped
Disney has nothing to do with this travesty…they are too busy making another billion with The Acolyte 🤨
And here I was not feeling very Star Warsy on May the 4th! This definitely brought out that fanboy feeling from 2015. Feels good! Nice work Holden, from one director to another! This is what cinema used to be: Pure Passion!
Director? Where's your film?
@@ImJustRob. Exactly.
Magnificent effort. The acting was quite good and the CGI was also very good for a fan film effort.
Where this shines though? The story and the dialogue and score hitting perfectly with those flashbacks.
"You have become the nightmare that kept you scared as a child".
That shook me to my bones. Wow.....
I must say, seeing Vader go ham in a ship is pretty sick
This was an AMAZING fan film. I love the interesting story, the visual effects, everything. You guys did a great job on this, and the fact that Darth Vader was dueling himself was really crazy to me.
Awesome film! As a lifelong Star Wars fan since the 90's, this ticked every one of my boxes for an enjoyable Star Wars fan film. Love the TIE pilots just hanging out sitting on their craft in the docking cradles and I love the implication that Vader has the battalion of troopers go into a full parade formation purely to witness how awesome the Advanced x1 is and see him take off in it. Interesting idea of having Vader and Anakin facing off against each other in an internal struggle like this, with Anakin reciting the Jedi Code while Vader quoted the Sith Code. I like to imagine that Death Trooper just watched Vader have a mental breakdown and start fighting nothing, deciding not to question things. Congratulations to you and the entire team that worked on this, I can tell a lot of work and passion went into it.
Jesusm the amount of talent, dedication, and love that must have went into this to make it look so good is insane
The fact that it's filmed to resemble the original trilogy won me over. Fantastic job.

Truth be told. This is the best Star wars I have seen in years. Thank you for all the work on this.
Cannot praise this effort high enough:
The X-Wings fighting in 3 dimensions, using all the battle space, as it should be; the "I can't shake him" line; the music; everything.
This is what Disney SHOULD be 👏
I can definitely tell by the sand and the color of the water that this was definitely shot on the beaches in your local area. Y’all did a great job with this, kudos to all involved!

I just wish the saber fighting looked a bit better. And lets not talk about the second vaders armor being all messed up and them not being the same height lol. But I love how they rescited the sith and jedi code that was pretty cool.
I'll put it top 3, but TIE Fighter anime is still the best.
Dude! This is creatively on point! The Star Wars we all want. Great job!
the space maneuvering was so on point!!! makes me wish Disney was smart enough to do something like that, but the Disney showrunners aren't fans of starwars.
Phenomenal job Holden! Couldn't ask for something better on Star Wars day!
Besides Rogue One, this is the best I’ve seen outta Star Wars content. That’s both awesome and extremely sad. Well done Holden and whoever the VFX / Editor is, huge kudos to you guys.

What the Force! This was excellent. Goosebumps all over the place. That last line…chilling and powerful
Dude Holden, and everyone else that worked on this project, friggen amazing, got a feeling of more love and passion from this 21 minutes of a fan movie than anything disney has put out. 20/10 will goosebump again, thanks again... and just remember., this is what the star wars community is about, not all the bullcrap that people try spewing, we're a passionate fan base, and if it had sucked, we would've been equally as bashing as we are praising
Nicely done. A worthy addition to SW fanfic lore. Thank you for your hard work in getting this made.
the fact that you added an important piece of what should be canon lore, in 20 minutes, while lucasfilm squandered 7 hours worth of 3 movies, is astonishing. great work guys, loved this so much
Holden! My God what an amazing short story you created. The astetic, look and feel is absolutely perfect! Felt like I was right back in the original trilogy. The idea of Vader finding a place of light and facing his own demons! This could easily become a series or a full length spin off movie.
Excellent work, the force is strong with Holden. Happy Star Wars day!
Now this is a real Darth Vader fan film, don’t know wtf Star Wars theory made but this is freakin amazing!
DUDE, HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE??? Not only did you make it look basically identical to the original trilogy with the effects, music, etc, but you told an amazing story and made it look awesome!!!! You even got the Darth Vader voice pretty close to the original!!! It feels like an original Star Wars movie. Great Job!!!
nice touch having a droid resembling K2SO from R1 in there =)
For being on a shoestring budget, this is impressive. The lightsaber duel and conversation during it is easily the strongest part. Looking forward to seeing what else you do as you move forward with filmmaking, Holden!
I love fan films that goes in place between movies cause to me this is my head-cannon now and it makes sense for the overall story particularly in this one where Vader fights Anakin cause it leads to him coming back to the light in episode 6 really well done👍🏻
