I'm not sure. For me I switched to linux a year ago and I'm loving it. I am not restricted at all, and can use the same instructions without being required, if I didn't have the instructions I can use my OS the same as before. Linux is freedom true freedom from Microsoft. It's even easy now with gnome, and sure you'll have to use the material but I learn Linux exclusivity with AI which taught me basic commands.

This one at least is relatively sensible, (especially when compared to their original W11 requirements) Barring Atom (which requires a 2015 model or newer-- same with VIA Nano) If you have an Intel Sandy Bridge or AMD Jaguar/Bulldozer this requirement will not effect you. As for a breakdown on what the instruction (popcnt) does: ruclips.net/video/bLFqLfz2Fmc/видео.html

Users who have technical skill will always find ways around these problems. Those without, barely know nor care about any of this. A PC is a PC to them, they use it until it breaks or cannot be used, then just buy another one. If everyone who uses a PC had technical skill, software and hardware companies wouldn't get away with things so easily.

According to Wikipedia, SSE4 was announced in 2006 and released a year later. That means that CPUs made in 2007 or later will most likely have the SSE4 instruction set. I think that computers that came preinstalled with Windows XP or Vista will not be getting any new feature updates for Windows 11.

You need at least SSE4.2 (introduced on intel in 2008 and on amd in 2011) and/or SSE4A (amd only, as far as I know) which was introduced with their Barcelona architecture cpus. If I remember correctly that means their Phenom cpus very late in 2007, just before the end of that year, but yes, it's been out for a while now.

Hello. First of all thanks for clearing up now that I know about the instruction sets now I understand why it won’t work even if I don’t like it. If the machine that I have, have it, and I should be OK. My oldest machine I have is I believe 2010. It’s a legacy machine so I don’t know how that would work. But thanks again for clearing up the core part versus the operating system thing. Now that I know that it’s gonna be relying on that instruction now I understand why there’s no bypasses available at this point. But, I can see where Microsoft would be doing more harm than good. You would think they would learn from their mistakes, but they don’t seem to care. Like I said, in the last comments, if you care about the environment and care about your clientele, you won’t make these reckless choices. But somehow, people who have luxury are able to do it. I personally, don’t want to have to buy new hardware every several years. I want my machines to last for quite a while. Anyway, thanks again and I hope that this will be the end of the reckless decision-making for a while, but something tells me we’re only getting started.

One way to circumvent the missing instructions: Is possible if the cpu has an illegal instruction interrupt. You simply add code to the interrupt handler to check for the instructions that Windows 11 and then 12 uses, and add code to it, to handle the missing instructions. This is not for the faint of heart and may be done at thre uefi/bios level or the kernel level. I prefer Linux to Windows for various reasons.

I can see Microsoft getting into trouble again. How can you make a certain CPU operation a requirement? What if it's not available from AMD or ARM or others? Do they get nothing from Windows? It's like saying that "at this address on this CPU you need to have this data string" or we won't run. I've read where this latest update (24H2) will basically brick your computer. How is this allowed? It's just an operating system, not a vault, where you have to have all the right keys in the right spots to open or run something. I think it's time for me to look a something else for my computer. Hello Ubuntu.

Every is smooth. I just reverted back to windows 10, because I didn’t see much difference, except that it seemed more like spyware to advertise. It felt like I was just using windows 10, but with harder ways to personalize and find things. The thing is I use both Pc and Mac 🖥. So 11 feels just as frustrating as a Mac. Also people need to know that when you install windows 11. If you do not revert back to your previous version of windows before the 10 days is up. You will have to back up all your files, downloads. Because you have to do a whole new install of windows. That is an issue. I might do a triple boot camp, and install it separately.

    • @Lord_Funk
      @Lord_Funk 6 месяцев назад +7

I think so yes. I think you need gen 8 (coffee lake) Intel cpu, or newer, to be considered "compatible". You might be able to pass this time and this new requirement with SSE 4.2, but who knows in a few months or a year? I even read somewhere that they quietly removed some 8th gen intel cpus from their supported list, like 44 Xeon cpus (or something like that), even though they too are considered 8th gen. I myself run Skylake i7 6700K with a GTX 1080. Actually a secondary PC running a Skylake i5 6600K with an AMD RX 480 8GB gpu. Both 6th gen intel cpus. My son also runs a i7 6700K. All 3 have SSE 4.1 and SSE 4.2. However I also get that they do not support Win 11. I know I can use a bypass method, but that would mean risking Microsoft pulling more future stuff like this and tighten the requirements even further and our PCs ends up not bootable. Not to mention that using some of the bypass software, or "special" Windows 11 installs from 3rd party online, has been known to come with all kinds of spyware and trojans bundled into them. I have no problems running the games I like. Even games that are only maybe 1-2 years old on highest settings. I'm not much for action games, or like Cyberpunk and such, so for me running strategy games and turnbased RPG's, Civ 5, Humankind etc, this PC suits me just fine. Still Microsoft wants to force me and others to get new hardware once support for win 10 runs out, or be forced to register to pay for extended support. It's very not consumer friendly.
Not to mention that the whole "build a used PC cheap" market will crash. There are quite a few that either just buy up older parts and build very workable PC's to use. Others buy up older parts, build workable PC's that they sell cheap, which still runs Fortnite or whatever and take the profit they make by selling a bunch of such computers to finally be able to afford to buy a new one. Plenty of videos of that on RUclips. In 2025 they will be forced to only buy gen 8 intel (and I think amd ryzen 3) or newer to build any PC which needs Windows installed. They can't expect a customer to be willing to pay for extended win10 support. Very enviromentally unfriendly and most old CPUs will go into landfills. Also meaning that for those that intentionally builds retro systems to run like XP, win7 or whatever to play vintage games, which won't run on newer O/S and hardware, will have a problem finding older cpus and mobos, since they will all be thrown in the trash.
Only way to avoid this would be to go the Linux route. However that does not work for all scenarios and users. Linux does not necessarily support everything some users may want, or need to do. It feels like being stuck between a rock and a hard place where personal freedom of choice is the victim. In todays world with many having a very tight financial situation it's particularly bad. Imagine having a couple of kids. Maybe you need to update 2-3 PC's in your home then, when paying the regular bills and put food on the table is more important, but at the same time you need those computers for kids school work and to even be able to log into your bank in countries where everything is more or less now digital. Then add on top of that smart phones etc. They too pull stuff like this. Your phones O/S won't get latest updates after a few years and then the bank says that you can not log in with an outdated O/S. It's becoming very expensive to just do your day to day stuff in this digital age. It almost feels like being stuck in the garbage disposal in the Death Star and the walls keeps coming closer and closer to crush you. Your freedom of movement gets narrower and narrower.

Planned obsolescence, just use it till it drops dead lol maybe the current version of Windows 11 will remain supported until then.

It seems that Windows wants to sell more Intel and AMD CPUs.
I have 3 Win11 systems, one Win 10, that will be converted to Linux, like my other three older PCs, and I just bought a mac mini to see how it works.
I am using the mac for just about everything and am very impressed with its power.
Bottom line: Almost everything is moving to the internet and the OS is becoming less and less important. For gamers though, Windows is still king.

They need a windows 11 legacy mode like Rosetta on a mac so that win 11 can run on older hardware without invoking a bypass.

Hej Gill thanks for the video yes this is in deeper level and i have been waiting for it, i understood that it would come sooner or later that computers on unsupported hardware that are very old can't run never Windows 11 versions. I have a new gaming laptop and it has full support for windows 11 but i have an older gaming laptop bought it in 2017 so interesting i will check it if it has the right instruction sets required by the Cpu. TechTarget as also a very good article about the instruction set in a computer's Cpu and what it is about and so on. But sooner or later you have to buy new hardware to be able to have the latest versions of Windows, this also applies to Macs, Iphones, Android phones, that's how it works take care Gill and have a nice evening.

So if you allow the upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2 on a currently unsupported system that we forced Windows 11 on will stop working? So again Microsoft is gonna try and force all these people to buy new PC's to keep using Windows. This will of course break how many thousands of PC's? Normal operations of Microsoft piss off a lot of people already. If they go with this they will be cutting their own throats. This better be an optional process or there will be big trouble.

There has to be a trigger mechanism for this check to work . When found , every time the check is triggered it could run into a wedge that redirects the check to your routine and reports back that all ia swell in Disneyland and windows keeps running . Of course you have to put the wedge there yourself. I started putting wedges into entire Commodore 64 systems way back when . :O) The whole rotten game is nothing less than a pain in the butt . I am also a Linux user so I have a way to escape from the madness . :O)

The real reason for blocking older computers is just simply to get new hardware sales - and Window 11 is the worst Microsoft operating system since DOS 4.00. Server versions of the operating system run on old hardware without issue - these have the same kernel as desktop. VMware blocked upgrades where CPU's did not support new virtualization tech, Microsoft allowed, you just don't get best performance. So it is possible to enable an OS to support and (effectively) run on old hardware. Most users have absolutely no requirement for a processor newer than 10 years. Internet browsing and some form of Office app is actually the most use the majority of computers get. Maybe there should be a global class action against Microsoft for environmental damage - millions of functional but "scrap" computers.
