Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). Want something heavier from Nightwish? Try Romanticide or Ghost River from Wacken 2013 live. Always pick live wherever possible. Their new album dropped a few days ago. You will definitely enjoy Tribal. The first thing you notice about Nightwish that’s different from most metal bands is that you can actually hear the singer, And what a singer she is. She can sing any genre and belt, scream and even growl. She is also 6’1” if you hadn’t noticed. The composer (keyboard) is a genius and all the band members are incredible. Grumpy Old Gamers I can assure you that it’s not just you and the girl who’s watching the concert feeling this turmoil of emotions. we all feel the same. and even after listening several times it doesn’t pass the effect. nightwish has always been a great band. Tuomas Holopainen is a composer who is not of this world. but when the band started having Floor Jansen as the vocalist. since 2012 it has been perfect. not just with her voice. an angelic voice that makes us dream of angels. but also his presence on stage. the way she dresses, the way she dances, her penetrating look behind her makeup is a pleasure to see the concerts. the video clips are also beautiful. but really, only music with closed eyes makes us dream. hearing nigtwish is like watching a movie. in fact, in one song it is like watching several films. comedy horror action romantics is a mixture of emotions. Tuomas Holopainen composing music and Floor Jansen singing perfect. but the whole band is fantastic.
The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. Shoemaker from the new album has nice riffs and some mind blowing vocals; especially, toward the end of the song. Go from that to Yours is an Empty Hope and you will see just how special Floor and Nightwish is. Many of us think Floor is one of the best and most versatile female vocalists of our generation.

The drummer has a metronome playing in his ear and times the entire thing. Hard to imagine that level of multi-tasking, But it's Jukka, so it's not surprising.
Love Nightwish! Wacken 13 was an outstanding concert. Try Romanticide, song of myself or ghost River from the same show. These r much heavier than GLS.

Hi there, Great you liked it. They have harder stuff and heavier. The composer (keyboards) is an insane writer. And how they make it a complete piece together is stunning. I went to classical university (conservatorium) with Dutch singer Floor, she also did the Rock academy in Holland. I love having a classical background as metal musician, and that's what you hear back here in Night Wish. In fact Metal is classical music but plugged. The transitions, playing with a lot of different rhythms to build up or down, the parts...look at our old composers. Floor Jansen (with a short A) is a Dutch singer and she sings classical music, opera and her beloved music Metal. She can growl like crazy, way lower than the bass player...but it does not fot in this song. Floor is an amazing woman to work with and damn I am proud of her.I am so happy for her and her Finnish brothers are together in Nightwish. Her husband is the drummer of Sabaton. What you learn in classical education is that less is often more. This guitarist can do stunning things, just like the bass player. But it's more important that your story is told in the proper way. This is not an angry or explosive song (they have them, just listen) I am often annoyed by musicians showing off their skills, when it doesn't lift the song. In fact that is very a-musically. Floor could sing operatic her with lots of vibrato, but that would have ruined the song. She can belt like crazy and has a beautiful soprano head voice and lungs of iron. Good luck with your music!

Tuomas, the keyboardist from Nightwish may be the greatest songwriter of our generation. Very diverse and he writes lyrics with a poetic style. Very little sex, drugs and rock & roll. As i see you were expecting more heavy things to drop and harsh vocals, i suggest you check out Epica - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith. It is symphonic metal too but with a heavier touch to it. If you want heavy by nightwish, i think their heaviest track yet was released on the new album and is called Tribal, absolute killer !

My personal suggestion for the next songs in order to give you a nice overview of some "styles" covered by Nightwish: 1. You did already Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013): THE "traditional first song" to get into Nightwish. Floor is showing diferent capabilities and you can get a first understanding of Tuomas capability of songwriting 2. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast 3. Then there are a couple of great songs from Wacken: Storytime, Song of Myself, Romanticide, Last Ride of the Day, Ghostriver plus "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look at the growls) 4. Then "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) and "The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley - get to know the beckground of this song ahead) 5. Nice reaction, worth a sub for the familiar accent alone. :) Given your interest from a song writing perspective I would recommend watching performances with lyrics where possible, Tuomas is one hell of a writer. I also liked your comment about the apparent simplicity of Emppu's solo on guitar, a lot critisize it for not going mental, overlooking the fact he played it well and it did the job it was intended to do. I'd much rather hear a well played melody instead of having to sit through two minutes of someone seeing how fast they can play some random shit that barely fits the song.
"You don't get many vocalists that are female." Ha! Clearly you haven't heard of After Forever or Revamp (Floor's 2 previous bands), Epica, Within Temptation, Delain, and others. All female fronted metal bands and ironically, all four of the singers are from the Netherlands. As for Floor, you haven't seen even 1/10th of what she can do with her voice.
Nice reaction, but I missed a lot of what you were saying during the song because you were attempting to talk over it rather than pausing. Not saying to pause a lot, just suggesting it would be easier to understand you and not distract from the performance. I've never heard Floor scream (not a big fan of pure scream vocals myself, but each to his or her own), but she does growl. I'll leave you a couple of links to hear her growling vocals. Want something heavier from Nightwish? Try Romanticide or Ghost River from Wacken 2013 live. Always pick live wherever possible. Their new album dropped a few days ago. You will definitely enjoy Tribal. The first thing you notice about Nightwish that’s different from most metal bands is that you can actually hear the singer, And what a singer she is. She can sing any genre and belt, scream and even growl. She is also 6’1” if you hadn’t noticed. The composer (keyboard) is a genius and all the band members are incredible. Another thing you will notice is they always have a good time on stage. Nightwish Army incoming...😄🤘

Grumpy Old Gamers I can assure you that it’s not just you and the girl who’s watching the concert feeling this turmoil of emotions. we all feel the same. and even after listening several times it doesn’t pass the effect. nightwish has always been a great band. Tuomas Holopainen is a composer who is not of this world. but when the band started having Floor Jansen as the vocalist. since 2012 it has been perfect. not just with her voice. an angelic voice that makes us dream of angels. but also his presence on stage. the way she dresses, the way she dances, her penetrating look behind her makeup is a pleasure to see the concerts. the video clips are also beautiful. but really, only music with closed eyes makes us dream. hearing nigtwish is like watching a movie. in fact, in one song it is like watching several films. comedy horror action romantics is a mixture of emotions. Tuomas Holopainen composing music and Floor Jansen singing perfect. but the whole band is fantastic.

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals)
Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer)
Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player)
Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK)
The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. As a next song to take a look at i would recommend their masterpiece "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. Shoemaker from the new album has nice riffs and some mind blowing vocals; especially, toward the end of the song. Go from that to Yours is an Empty Hope and you will see just how special Floor and Nightwish is. Many of us think Floor is one of the best and most versatile female vocalists of our generation.

got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power

As a musician. To play to a backtrack for 3 minutes is nuts. Having to stay perfectly timed. To play to backtrack for 10,15,20 minutes is insane.
The drummer has a metronome playing in his ear and times the entire thing. Hard to imagine that level of multi-tasking, But it's Jukka, so it's not surprising.
Love Nightwish! Wacken 13 was an outstanding concert. Try Romanticide, song of myself or ghost River from the same show. These r much heavier than GLS.

Nathan sorry, Nightwish lingo, GLS stands for Ghost Love Score. Nightwish has an Army of fans and they are very vocal about their band. Wembley and Tampere are also great shows. Nightwish is much better live. New album just dropped on Friday. U might like to check it out.

Hi there, Great you liked it. They have harder stuff and heavier. The composer (keyboards) is an insane writer. And how they make it a complete piece together is stunning.
I went to classical university (conservatorium) with Dutch singer Floor, she also did the Rock academy in Holland. I love having a classical background as metal musician, and that's what you hear back here in Night Wish. In fact Metal is classical music but plugged. The transitions, playing with a lot of different rhythms to build up or down, the parts...look at our old composers.
Floor Jansen (with a short A) is a Dutch singer and she sings classical music, opera and her beloved music Metal. She can growl like crazy, way lower than the bass player...but it does not fot in this song. Floor is an amazing woman to work with and damn I am proud of her.I am so happy for her and her Finnish brothers are together in Nightwish. Her husband is the drummer of Sabaton.
What you learn in classical education is that less is often more. This guitarist can do stunning things, just like the bass player. But it's more important that your story is told in the proper way. This is not an angry or explosive song (they have them, just listen) I am often annoyed by musicians showing off their skills, when it doesn't lift the song. In fact that is very a-musically. Floor could sing operatic her with lots of vibrato, but that would have ruined the song. She can belt like crazy and has a beautiful soprano head voice and lungs of iron.

This is a very unique song. Now check out "Romanticide" from the same Wacken 2013 show. You will hear a heavier side of Nightwish. It would seem that you are a songwriter? Tuomas, the keyboardist from Nightwish may be the greatest songwriter of our generation. Very diverse and he writes lyrics with a poetic style. Very little sex, drugs and rock & roll. Epica - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith. It is symphonic metal too but with a heavier touch to it.
If you want heavy by nightwish, i think their heaviest track yet was released on the new album and is called Tribal, absolute killer !

My personal suggestion for the next songs in order to give you a nice overview of some "styles" covered by Nightwish:
1. You did already Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013): THE "traditional first song" to get into Nightwish. Floor is showing diferent capabilities and you can get a first understanding of Tuomas capability of songwriting
2. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast
3. Then there are a couple of great songs from Wacken: Storytime, Song of Myself, Romanticide, Last Ride of the Day, Ghostriver plus "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look at the growls)
4. Then "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) and "The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley - get to know the beckground of this song ahead)
5. Then the new stuff with "Noise" (Video) and "Harvest (Lyric Video) first.
Just my personal thoughts :-)

Given your interest from a song writing perspective I would recommend watching performances with lyrics where possible, Tuomas is one hell of a writer.
I also liked your comment about the apparent simplicity of Emppu's solo on guitar, a lot critisize it for not going mental, overlooking the fact he played it well and it did the job it was intended to do.
I'd much rather hear a well played melody instead of having to sit through two minutes of someone seeing how fast they can play some random shit that barely fits the song.
Agreed - Emppu is an excellent guitarist. He plays just what the song needs, fast or slow, and no more (and seems to have a ball on stage!).
Bare in mind when this was performed at Wacken in 2013.... Floor was the new front to the band and had learned the whole set in just 2 days

"You don't get many vocalists that are female." Ha! Clearly you haven't heard of After Forever or Revamp (Floor's 2 previous bands), Epica, Within Temptation, Delain, and others. All female fronted metal bands and ironically, all four of the singers are from the Netherlands. As for Floor, you haven't seen even 1/10th of what she can do with her voice.

Nice reaction, but I missed a lot of what you were saying during the song because you were attempting to talk over it rather than pausing. Not saying to pause a lot, just suggesting it would be easier to understand you and not distract from the performance. I've never heard Floor scream (not a big fan of pure scream vocals myself, but each to his or her own), but she does growl. I'll leave you a couple of links to hear her growling vocals. "Yours is an Empty Hope" is a Nightwish song, but "Disdain" is with her former band "Revamp."
