Tuomas Holopainen, is the keyboardist, founder, composer, lyricist, and overall guru....he's been called the "Metal Mozart" by many...all are very accomplished musicians....do "I want My Tears Back" to meet Troy Donockley, who plays Ulliean pipes...there are 5 DVD concert videos, all of them I possess, and listen to regularly
Rather than complexity, Nightwish is all about composition, storytelling, and elicitation of emotion. It's also just damn good fun, as you've noted. While they are all outstanding musicians, it's refreshing that they don't feel the need to beat you over the head with technical proficiency.
Nice reaction! This was the song that was performed right after 'Ghost Love Score". They ended the show with the song that they played after this one. Which is called appropriately, 'The Last Ride of the Day'. A good deal of the lyrics come from a very long poem of the same title, by the famous American Poet Laureate, Walt Whitman, (circa 1892). I recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' from this same concert for your next NW reaction.
Hmm, this seems to be the slower version. Someone messed up the initial Bluray release and it wound up being 4% slower. I think this may have been that version.
Tuomas the keyboardist ;) And he also songwriter and composer for almost all NW lyrics and music. This show was started with Dark Chest Of Wonders and ended with Last Ride Of The Day -- and both songs are amazing. As well as all the songs between. You can pick any recording from this concert, and it will be amazing. I personally recommend listening to Storytime from this concert next ;)
It’s so great to watch others react the same way I did when hearing Marko sing ...the total WTF ..this grizzly, Viking guy has that voice. Yes they harmonize so well together...and in every style from softer ( The Islander) to full on Metal screams. Troy adds even another layer to this as well. Keep having fun reaction to these songs...at one point (or more) you will actually shed a tear. I swore I wouldn’t...but alas I fell victim to the beauty of Nightwish and am so glad I discovered this band.
Hi Nathan, great to see you discovering Nightwish, I did just about a year ago. Loving every song I’ve listened to so far, including their older stuff. I love the harmonies betweetster Marko and Floor. One of my personal favourites is 7 Days of the Wolves. Check out the live-version of Wembley 2016. Love your reactions, keep them coming
Nice to see you again and loving the songs plenty more to watch pick any from wacken you wont go wrong, the keyboard guy is the genius of nightwish Tuomas.
There's no link to the video you watched in the description but I am pretty sure you listened a slowed down version. When you choose a video by the Wacken show please avoid the bluray versions and take the DVD versions which are in normal speed. Some don't bother of this but I still think some experience has lost. Still very nice reaction. As a guitarist you can see that the simple things can be also very effective. There's no always need of complicated things. One of my favourite songs that contains some heaviness combined with an epicness and awesome visuals. If you want to continue with Wacken there are Dark chest of Wonders, Ghost River, Storytime, Last Ride of the Day. You can go to Tampere 2015 too with the songs Weak Fantasy and The Greatest show on Earth. From the Wembley 2015 concert there are 7 Days To The Wolves and The Poet And The Pendullum. I think The Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018 would be interesting for you too and so on.. I am waiting to see what you will choose next.. \m/
Others have recommended other Wacken 2013 songs - they're all great - but for something a little different, try Buenos Aires 2018 and Dead Boy's Poem and I Want My Tears Back. Lots of sides to this wonderful band. And you've still got the new album to dive into, though I'd recommend you get a strong and varied base from their older stuff first. Keep them coming! Enjoying your reactions.
Tuomas says you don't have to put things in a song just because you can. This is my favorite Nightwish song. FYI This is only half of the song. The whole song is only on the studio version with Anette the second singer. The second part is a poem / lyrics recited by the band members families and friends with beautiful music playing in the background. If you watch it you will understand why they don't do the whole song. Also make sure you get one with the lyrics. Take care and stay safe.
If you loved the slower part, you should listen to the extended version with a beautiful orchestral piece accompanying members of the the band reciting a poem.
You have a lot of Nightwish to go thru. I would suggest doing the live shows in order - Wacken 2013, Wembley 2015 and Tampere 2015, then Buenos Aires 2018, and finally, the new release "Human :||: Nature". As for Marko, he is an accomplished singer in his own right. He started out with his brother in a band that came to be called Tarot. He is the lead singer on almost all of Tarot's songs. He has also been a guest vocalist with many bands over the years. There is a sixth member I don't think you've seen yet. Troy is a multi-instrumentalist and he also sings. Enjoy the ride!
without the keyboardist there would be no sound :) He writes the songs almost exclusively. Marco the bassist also does some writing but generally it is all Tuomas.
Nightwish isn't bad, isn't it? I rediscovered them two years ago and was at their concert in the Frankfurt Festhalle in December 2018. They are indescribably good live. I don't know a band that's so versatile - and Floor has the ability that you not only listen to music, but FEEL it. There are some songs where, although I hear dozens of times, I still get tears in my eyes. And I am a self-controlled 45-year-old policeman in Frankfurt am Main. She gets me 😅 every time. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. There are songs, of course, that I find better, and which I like less - but quite honestly: a really bad song, which I don't like, I haven't heard from them yet. On your journey with Nightwish I can recommend this Wacken 2013 concert from front to back. In my opinion, this is the gold standard of a live performance. Every song is terrific. Grandiosely sung, grandiosely performed - pure energy. You won't be disappointed. So I can recommend this concert completely. Some songs are melancholic, some hard, some poppy, some Celtic-folky. Incredible bandwidth and floor finds the right voice for everything. Insane. Very nice reaction video. I'm a little bit jealous, because I remember sitting in disbelief in front of the monitor two years ago with each new video of them with my mouth open... of course I subed and liked 👌✌
great reaction !! this song is one of my personal favorites .. Nightwish loves everyting they do, because if they don't, they simply would't do it.. there is so much more wonderfull stuff from Nightwish !! but because you also loved harmonizing, I would like to recommend "7 days to the wolfs"(at Wembley in 2015) .. I believe Floor and Marko were created to sing together.. the way to end a show, then a would't recoment you "last ride of the day" (also from this concert Wacken 2013)
Funny thing is you haven't even experienced the whole band yet, they have another member named Troy who's only onstage for certain songs. When you get to Greatest Show On Earth, first off you will be blown away, and second you will get the full scope of Nightwish in one song.
Hi something for you to check out Nightwish high hopes it's a pink floyd cover sung by Marco the bace guitarist Also check out floor singing as a guest with other bands Soilwork let this river flow with floor Jansen Evergrey in orbit with floor Jansen Epica sancta terra with floor Jansen Northward while love died official music video Ayreon Merlin's will featuring floor Jansen Ayreon the eye of Ra (floor Jansen and her sister irene) Ayreon the day that the world breaks down

Tuomas the keyboardist composes 90% of the music and lyrics for the band. When was the last time anybody used the adjective Beautiful to describe a metal song? Now back to the up tempo songs. Check out "Storytime" from this same show. Or for a more dramatic and faster song check out and newer performance fro Buenos Aires 2018. See link. ruclips.net/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/видео.html - Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean See you for the next one.
One more bitten by the Nightwish-bug :D Great! If you want more, I'd suggest "Ghost River" from the same concert or, if you wanna listen to a different side of them, try "My Walden" from the Tampere Show. If you wanna listen to something else than Nightwish, how about some Van Canto, a german a capella metal band. I'd suggest "Take to the sky" ruclips.net/video/PAsDwbDFOrU/видео.html
No, this song was not the ending. Last Ride Of The Day was the closer. Check it out! 😉. And while you are at it, you might as well check out the opener, which is Dark Chest Of Wonders. Now that is how you open, and close a show!
Lol ok nice reactions on nightwish... seeing the Floorgasms.. you are Floored.. if you like classical strings and metal... ehm try Epica .. Start with Epica ft Floor Jansen - Sancta Terra live retrospective .. and you will see the other dutch Titan Simone Simons 3 months pregnant back than ... together with Floor ... and a lot of ... otherthings ... fasten your seatbelt ...ruclips.net/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/видео.html
🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘 Fantastic Song!!!!! 🤘🤘 😁 Definitely check out I Want My Tears Back from this show!! You'll meet Troy, the other band member you haven't seen yet! He's from England btw!!! 😉🤘🤘
As for another band recommend. Try Band Maid out of Japan. They just posted their song Domination live in late February. Like NW they are even better live!!! These skilled ladies will blow your mind with some heavy hard Rock!!!! Enjoy, and the Maidiacs will guide you!! My second recommend would be for their song Don't You Tell Me live!!!! A sweet surprise in the middle breakdown!!! 😉🤘🤘
Maybe you would like to dig a bit in Nightwish's history and watch some performance with their first vocalist Tarja Turunen. The typical Nightwish sound was basically invented to match her voice. Phantom of the Opera was great: ruclips.net/video/loaKHHdPo-Q/видео.html

The last song of that concert was called "The last ride of the day" :-)
And it's a great one to react to as well :-)

Marco is one of the best metal vocalists in the world. It says a lot that he continues to do backing and parts for Nightwish. It’s part of the magic
It’s time to cool down in the Ghost River!!!!

7:58 - You should learn the name of Mozart of today. The greatest music composer and lyric maker there is. He is Tuomas Holopainen.
Well done again Nathan !! I’m gonna shoot for Sahara live in Tampa , I just love that song , smaller venue but it’s so good lol 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼

Good choice! How about a song from Buenos Aires latest live album like The Kinslayer, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean or Slaying the Dreamer?
Bro!! Best female singer ever!!!

Nathan: Is there a song or songs I should listen to? Nightwish Army: Yes. As you can see, many many songs on that recommendation list.
Yes. The Greatest Show on Earth performed at Tampere, a 21 minute masterpiece, it’s an epic journey about evolution of earth.
Great reaction again, please next storytime, or to get to know the sixt member of the band , Troy, I want My Tears back, same concert
Storytime from Wacken?
