My CURE - 10 years ago my life was turned upside down overnight as I got very ill with menengitis. I didn´t know at the time, but after returning home from hospital I started my descent into darkness. Cognitive problems, anxiety, fatigue, dizziness persisted and started to become my everyday. There were periods I felt depressed, totally empty and my hope was fading. The worst was the guilt that I had in me for destroying the life I had once wanted for my family. I didn´t feel the beauty in life anymore. I was locked in a prison without walls. That was until I seen Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013. I somehow found myself watching it one day. I don´t know where it came from but it was like getting struck by lightning. I cried for the first time in nearly a decade. I couldn´t believe the beauty I felt. It was PURE BEAUTY. I watched it over and over... tears every time. Soon after, I watched this live version of Poet And The Pendulum. I felt so deeply connected to the lyrics. I felt it was written for me. I processed so much pain listening to Poet. I later called it my cure. 1.5yrs on and I´m enjoying my life again, I feel beauty in this world, I am so grateful for my chance to be alive and despite any issues of anxiety and fatigue that still plague me, it´s a wonderful life full of love. Nightwish changed it all for me. I will forever be grateful for Nightwish - the greatest gift to my soul
I’m a 51 year old American, who has always been a metal fan. Yet, I’ve been deprived for 50 years and 11 months of the genius that is Nightwish. How is it possible that I have missed out on my instant favorite band since 1996…?! Mind blowingly awesome band.
Yes, mind blowingly awesome and in a league of their own. 56 years old here and had not heard of Nightwish or Floor until around 18 months ago when I was pestered by a good friend to listen to this live performance. Reluctantly I did and was blown away and have been every day since. Phenomenal band. 🙏😊👍❤️
You might love Epica and Within Temptation if you don’t know them in that case. It’s in my opinion the Holy Trinity of symphonic metal. Sonata Artica might suits you as well. Good listening!
I interpret it, that the person understands how much the other is troubled and as the oceans it can be very stormy within. It is actually very comforting having someone understand that there are many troubling things within you and that they are not to be taken lightly.
I'm going on 53 years old and yes of course I have been to many concerts ( well over 100 ) and I have heard an uncountable number of rock / metal bands over the years and I am going to take a few moments at this time to be quite open , honest , upfront and direct in making this comment but first I'd like to add " Just for the Record " what is written here is in and of MY OWN UNBIASED OPINION I had put this to vote and it was a COMPLETELY UNANIMOUS DECISION ( I will admit that even though it was solely voted upon by myself and only myself ) NIGHTWISH has to be one of the top most outstanding bands I have ever heard absolutely in the top 3 of my favorite bands the truly unique mixture of instruments and also some of the most talented & versatile musicians that I have ever heard they are a group of either quite highly trained , exceptionally gifted musicians (or a combination of both ) and Now ( before I bring this to it's much anticipated conclusion ) without any further ado I am going to mention / comment on the 3 female lead singers they've had throughout their career as I stated before "this is and of my own opinion ) each one of these Women Tarsja , Floor and Anette ( in and of their own ) to be utterly in a class of their own so to speak I truly and honestly find each of these Women to have such an impressive and impeccable vocal range that absolutely and undeniably must be recognized ( or if you'd prefer " Highly Praised " ) I also must admit that in my eyes each of them are just as exceptionally beautiful as they are incredibly talented I am quite highly impressed with this group I apologize if any find this comment to be too long Thank You for your time
@@rickleblanc8900 yeah...Nightwish music sounds very organic, melodic, powerful and monolith, this is what can be done only by real master, that's why he IS genius and living legend
To be fair, metal is still a niche genre sadly compared to other genres. Which is a shame as in my opinion some of the best singers and musicians in general belong to the this genre.
it’s one of my favorite songs, but it makes me feel so sad, I just can’t explain what I feel while listening to this piece of live poetry . I think it’s a common reaction for nightwish songs 🥺💖
I'm with you. I saw them live in 2018. During this Song, all people around me, (also the big metal Guys) we're crying. It was such an emotional moment. really great. I really Look forward to the Time after fu...ng Corona. I will be at the next show for sure.
chewie ! I saw them live to! But I wasn’t lucky enough to see the setlist with this song. But it felt so great, it was more than a show, it was a whole experience! I could see that the band was enjoying it such as the fans! And obviously I saw the “big metal dude” crying to! 🤘🏽
When music has a meaning... Tuomas, you are more than words can say, modern day Mozart and beyond. And Floor, you rock my world. I love you so much. Nightwish, thank you so much for what you give to me! You have no idea... Dark times, but then comes Nightwish and I'll be saved. Thank You!!!
When I see Tuomas singing along. Guts me every time. This is such a great example of the beauty that is at the end of depression. After all depression is only temporary.
It can be. Or it can be chronic. I think I was 11 when the idea first occured to me that the world might be better off without me in it. I am now 31, and fighting with everything I have not to be forced to rely on the system to catch me for a third time. After 20 years, you'd think the tears would have dried out. Apparently not. After so long, even with help, it's hard not to wonder if that desease might not be everything you are, after all. That thought isolates you slowly from everything you love...And the magic of this song is precisely that, for 13.56 minutes, the loneliness goes away for a bit. And, as much as you'd wish no one would ever have to feel like that, the relief of not being completely alone overrides the guilt of finding some solace in another person's pain.

The part where Marko and Emppu go next to Tuomas and play together is so...beautiful. Amazing. Brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely adorable and respectful! And Floor's voice is beyond angelic. Opus perfectum.
Marko did this parts fully energized. It was the central point of the song that everyone wanted to hear and it was Tuomas’ psychological thriller of which he fantasized death. The growl would present itself.
"You have such oceans within. In the end, I'll always love you". As a father, this part gets deep into my heart, every single time. It's a masterpiece.
@@Dom21221 That's the way I listen to music. Mates of me playing Death Metal, what I don't like, but these guys are are real good mates of mine. And all are my opinion: Floor is a giant. This is music. Good music needs respect. If you like it or not.
Jörg Mühlberg I agreed with you that’s why I said 100% 😉. I’ve discovered nightwish last year and listening to music has never been the same since then. I feel like I’m on a different planet while listening to floor and those freaking awesome band members. Love all of them. Have you seen the full Wacken concert from 2013? Best concert I’ve seen of all time
I hate to call it prog, because of all the trappings associated with the genre, but this is true potential of a progressive rock/metal masterpiece done right. It covers the emotional gambit of a 19th century composition, yet slaps like only rock can.
I can't believe Ive been a metalhead for 23 years, since I was 15. My brain only decided to catch up with everyone else and realise how utterly amazing Nightwish are around a year ago. I'm ashamed but also delighted 😊🎉
I'm not surprised. Tuomas did say this song was something he had to write as a catharsis, a way for him to kill himself in a song so he didn't do it in real life. It's raw, deep and full of despair, self-hatred, anger and eventually acceptance. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the things he thought about when writing was the 5 stages of grief.
@@ShadowZero1980 12:15ish is one of them. From what I remember, he's said in interviews that he doesn't really like to sing publicly, which is why there's never a mic on him at shows. There's one REALLY old album from around the start of Nightwish where you can hear him sing, but that's it. But in many of the live concert recordings, you can see him singing along in some of the most intense emotional moments. This song started out as therapy for him and allegedly helped him not commit suicide, but from what I've heard, it's since become somewhat of a burden to relive every time he performs it. One of my favourite things about this recording is the emotional intensity, especially from those that have been part of the band the longest and who lived through the incidents that led to Tarja leaving and to this album. But you can also tell it's a really rough ride for them.
People who are suffering from a complex PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, and who love symphonic metal could feel the speciic intensity of this song like I do. For me there not one song that comes even close to 'The Poet and the Pendulum'. It stands out in the most remarkeble way. The composition, instrumentation and vocals are out of this world. This song has helped me to overcome a diagnosed moderate depression disorder and complex post traumatic stress disorder. All the peolpe from Nightwish have a special place in my heart, but Tuomas and Floor are a league on their own. I can only thank 'Beste Zanger 2019' for introducing me to Floor, symphonic metal, Tuomas and Nightwish.
Hi Frank, I do fully agree. Please see my thoughts some commenta below. This song is also for me the mother of all songs and I'm still puzzled what it has done to me. I'm very much concerned that no other song on earth will have the magic to achieve the same. This price of art is simply not from this planet. I still cannot find the right words for it and what my feelings are.
@@wickedrclines Isn't it a liberating thought to know that you don't have to find the right words to express your feelings when it comes to 'The Poet and the Pendulum'? Sometimes it happens. This song is unique in many ways. We can only thank Tuomas for composing such a masterpiece.
I feel ya, there! Symphonic metal, in general has helped me get through my struggles with PTSD and depression. But this song really helped me during a particularly rough time after a pretty severe trauma.
Yeah all 3 are masterpieces but gun to my head Poet is the the better of the 3. While those other 2 came from pure creativity and Tuomas' brilliant imagination, Poet came from somewhere deep, somewhere dark, a place few see.
This is not a song. This is, like Floor stated, a journey. Although it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite Nightwish song, this is the one that touches me the most.
Of all the albums of Nightwish I keep replaying "Dark Passion Play" it took half a dozen times of listening to it to better underhand where it comes from, now I'm still figuring it out but glad I get a sense of where Tuomas wrote it from
My god.. i just saw this.. and heard this for the first time. Shivers all over and thankfull to have been here this moment.. thank you all for the privilage.
I am old now , i go back to led zeppelin, thank you RUclips for carrying this band . I have never seen a band as Astonishing as Nightwish i pray god gives me years to watch and appreciate these performers for a long time to come, genius musicians and a wonderful, gorgeous woman lead singer , truly wonderful.
Floor did a great job. It's not easy to sing music written specifically for someone else's voice, But you have heard the original "Dark Passion Play" album, haven't you? Anette was amazing and very angelic. It would be pretty ignorant to make that comment and not have actually listened to DPP, their best album, multiple times.
Living in America and awash in simplistic, meaningless mainstream music, where talented artists struggle to be heard, it's good to know that there are places where a band like Nightwish can be heard and appreciated. More thoughtful, brilliantly created music makes a difference in the world. We need more.
right the nfl needs to pay nightwish 100 million to fly in and perform ghost love score, greatest show on earth and everdream at the superbowl halftime show to show the united states what an actual band is
that would be great but the average American has an attention span of about 3.6 seconds or the equivalent of my cat. So this doesn't work here. There are a lot of good American bands. To bad they are getting old. I remember going to see Dream Theater for their 20th anniversary tour over 10 years ago. I still have tickets for Symphony X for May for their 25 anniversary tour. American music is good. You just need to get past the pop garbage.
Very well said! I'll listen to Nightwish on my motorcycle or in my truck with other people and they'll breathlessly ask me "wow who is this?" I've listened to them since Tarja and Floor with NW is a match made in heaven.
Damn, I've seen some epic bands in my day - - but how, how, HOW does a band have so many EPIC songs in their repertoire? I would love to see Nightwish live just once before I die, but sadly, I do wish it would have been while Marko was still with the band. I pray, he's getting some of the peace his body & mind so badly longs for, God knows he & all of Nightwish deserve that.
@Corey Keller I would characterize it as more of a modern day adaptation of classical composition style where the peice is composed of individual movements that are telling a story. Still in a sense individual "songs that are similar" but slightly more nuanced. As time goes on Tuomas seems to adapt an increasingly operatic format which frankly fits the bands style perfectly.
They are EPIC live! A couple years back, I had a front row seat damn near center in a campus auditorium, just belly up to the stage. Marco personally handed me (and a couple others) a guitar pic. I will treasure it. I highly recommend you find the closest city they hit and see them there.
"Be still, my son, you're home. Oh when did you become so cold? The blade will keep on descending. All you need is to feel my love. Search for beauty, find your shore. "Sparkle my scenery with turquoise waterfall, with beauty underneath, the Ever Free... tuck me in beneath the blue, beneath the pain, beneath the rain... goodnight kiss for a child in time, swaying blade my lullabies..." Me: 😭😭😭
@@EssenceOfTheSoul I agree. I think Tuomas is a master in describing emotions with music, but what I love about all of them is the way they DELIVER those emotions to us (especially Floor!😍). It seems they are playing our souls instead of their instruments... Yes, we all are really different from each others, unique in our own way on the outside, but inside we all feel the same love, fear, sorrow, loss, hatred, joy, excitement, happiness and so on... In a sentence: "We are one...😉
"The Pacific" section is sung by a choirboy on the album, the fact the Floor sang it is incredible - the fact it was done live is just beautiful! What a voice! What a song!
@@joguipo Okay, first of all, that is a myth. Also, it would be highly inappropriate for Floor to ask such a thing at a time when she was just a temporary replacement in the band. The opening is done, if I am not mistaken, by Tuomas' wife. Second, Floor and Anette has done the same bits live. There is no difference to their performances in this regard. The both have sung the same sections, Marko did his, and the song has stayed the same when performed. Why this is treated like something awesome is beyond me. Anette did the choirboy thing in all the live performances as well from the start.
@@StarOfArtemis This part, along with the ending, is the weakest part in the song for Floor though. She really can't get to the soft spots that Anette had. Instead she resorts to a halfway thing between wannabe opera and something else to compensate, which doesn't work. She does the same in the ending, which totally ruins it. So no, she is not that good. I did like the performance overall though, but she has never really "gotten" this song the way she has with Ghost Love Score.
Same. Back in 2007 some dude at my new job I said two words two brought me a burned CD he thought I'd like and I forgot about it for ages until my mini disk player died in my car one day and that CD was still in there and it just said "Nightwish". I popped it in and was greeted with Poet and the Pendulum. By the time I got to work I was looking for all their CDs to buy!
One thing that pops to mind every time i see this video, is the sheer amount of courage Tuomas must have, to perform such a personal song in front of so many people, he must be revisiting the pain again simply by doing this, and he is handling it insanely well, truly a inspiring person.
I have not capability to cry more tears, but my cat who I love so dearly nuzzles my leg, reminding me I have still have feelings. I love you Franson, my friend. When life sucks and everything feels like shit, you reming me not everything is so bad.
This song makes me angry, then hyper manic, then a peace, then filled with the most beautiful calm I have ever felt!.......unmatched Songwriting & performance by any band in the world.!!!!!
Written and composed by a genius, vocally led by the most talented and versatile vocalist I've ever heard, held tightly together by a truly great band. I feel cheated that I only discovered Nightwish 6 months ago. I missed the start and middle of the journey. However, the final third is going to be one hell of a ride
I stumbled upon them only a few months ago as well. 1 Floorgasm later.....and I found myself digging up their entire catalog one night! I really enjoy all transformations of the band, but the Wacken-era lineup, with Marco, Jukka, emppu, and the Valkyrie herself......Mrs Floor Jenson! Amazing group with amazing songs
I'm probably in that 6 month catagory myself. I can't get past this song though.....in a good way. I can basically just listen to this on a loop. Eventually, I'll get to other songs of theirs. The whole section leading up to and including the bassist singing makes my hair raise every time. Its adenaline in musical form.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to Nightwish back in 2004 with "Nemo". I couldn't believe that I had spent the first 50 years of my life listening to so much music without hearing anything like it. So you're lucky--you get to hear Nightwish for the rest of your life! 🙂
Just an emotional and amazing performance. Tuomas Holopainen is an absolute genius composer. Who cannot love everything about Nightwish, they are simply magnificent. Can’t wait to see them live again.
I am right in a bus right now, enjoying this after not listening to it for a long time, life is hard, Its suffocating me. And the end part where floor sings, in the end I will always love you. Brought every single emotion I have never let out and here I am in tears cause Nightwish is the only thing that comforts me in the hardest of times. Thank you, from all my heart. For all those years and for the ones to come, thank you.
I have been listening to this version for years now. I still cannot find the correct words to express it, so tonight, I decided I will no longer try to describe it. I will just keep feeling it and getting emotional every time I listen to it. Thank you.
"Sparkle my scenery, with turquoise waterfall, with beauty underneath - the ever free." When Floor hits those high notes, it pulls out a sound in me almost like a whimper.

@@nightshade7240 If Amandiel and Mazikeen would have had a child beeing a girl, it would have been something like Floor. The devinitiy of her brilliant soprano and that grunting for the real dark parts she is able to show up in a single song is more than remarkable. Or as someone in a critic put it: Most singer sing just what they can, Floor can sing whaterver she WANTS.
I think Floor is the best all-around singer for Nightwish. But, there are songs where Tarja or Anette are just better suited. I really enjoy all three ladies and all of Nightwish's music.
You and the band have me in tears. I'm 72, a lifelong rocker with lots of live music in my life and I'll place you and, of course, Nightwish at the pinnacle of rock. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to listen to The Greatest Shoe On Earth for the 1st time...today. Truly another work of Art. Peace and love from the coast of Maine. Oops. Then I'll listen to The Greatest Show On Earth.
There are very few songs that can move me to tears (some days I even wonder if I have functional tear ducts), but this is one of them, and Nightwish is responsible for at least two or three others. The others because of how beautiful they are (unsurprisingly with Floor singing... I love Tarja and Annette, but Floor is just unearthly with her talent), but this one because I know the backstory and can feel the pain in the lyrics. Combine that with the hopeful ending, and Floor's beautiful vocals... oof.
When Marko sings his part solo he is playing a nice riff. Not easy doing both things at the same time AND looking like he is going to kill the public also.
I've always loved the bass riff part and Marco's solo, too. As a bass player that cannot sing and play at the same time, I'm always in awe of Marco. Especially in this part of the song.
Indeed as a bassist player I tell you that it’s insane divide your brain in two: one for world one for God, save me... sorry one for lyrics one for bass line, save me :D
I cannot listen to this song while driving. It takes me though the entire spectrum. It grabs me and takes me on an adventure to the point that I lose focus on the road.
I agree, I think you would have to search RUclips for many years to find musically something as great as this. Epica and Therion probably have something close, but not on this level. When 2007 album came out it wasn't much, it seems this song was great and it just needed a better singer.
So every now and then, when days seem to be heavy enough to go through, I'll find my way over here. Just to hear them play, study his lyrics and listen to her voice. It always helps...
This is perhaps one of the greatest, most moving songs I've ever listened too, I wont say pleasure cause that would be doing a disservice to the absolute pain and mental agony that gave birth to its genius. Its moving, its beautiful, its raw, its harsh, its a 13 minute roller coaster into emotion. It captures that time-slice in Tuomas's life forever in the notes of this pure masterpiece and as someone who has a long history of mental health issues, I understand completely why he needed to retire this after this performance, to break the continual connection to this moment from living in his mind in the present.
BEST Nightwish song ever!!! After listening to this song you will raise your standard of quality and may leave you frustrated wanting always something at that level! But there are only ONE and unique The poet and the pendullum! Thanks Toumas!
It's not just the lyrics that speak...the music, the visuals, the expressions of the band members - it all says so much. Thank you Nightwish for this masterpiece.
I personally think that Toumas singing along is the most emotional part. At 12:10, I nearly cried. You can see the pain in his face. Just imagining the pain he went through while writing this is emotional. We love you, Toumas!
For me this is by far their best song and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And played by this lineup is a joy to listen to. So sad we will never hear it again like this...
Floor, I have to say, and everyone confirms that ... you not only complement Nightwish to the fullest ... you are not a substitute for Tarja, no! You are the crowning glory of this band !!
@@fluffybacon Respectfully disagree. Floor already is what Tarja was trying to be her whole time in Nightwish. That's not to say I dislike Tarja's work with the band, much of it is exceptional. But I just don't think she's the be-all end-all of Nightwish like so many seem to. Honestly, I think Marko's departure will affect the band far more than Tarja's ever did.
@@metalboy5150 Floor isn't diddly squat, she's just a singer. Tarja defined Nightwish's sound, they are as they are because of her. Without Tarja, Nightwish would have been an underground accoustic band, not the genre defining powerhouse that they became. Marco's departure won't affect the band at all, Tuomas stopped making use of Marco's incredible vocals a while back. Him leaving now will affect the fans, not the actual band. Tarja's depature affected the band A LOT. This very song that we're commenting on was created because of her depature.
@@fluffybacon no offense... i love Tarja too, her voice gets under my skin... she led me to Nightwish and I infected my kids ^^ they love Nightwish too... but Floor sings the whole spectrum, that an advantage for me...
I always believed this track was an absolute masterpiece! Part 5: Mother and Father from this performance is simply art in its most exquisite form. God bless you guys for sharing your incredible work with the world.
Probably the best song performed by Floor. Emppu is a great musician. Marco is amazing and I have no words to describe how impressive Tuomas is as a composer, his lyrics and music always help me in difficult moments, they are my favourite band, thanks for making us feel magic.
I beg to differ though. She does much better on other songs, like (as much as I hate her version of it) Ghost Love Score. This song was not meant for Floor at all, and especially not a voice like hers. The Pacific and the ending is perfect examples of this, since its supposed to be soft, emotional and silky. Floor isn't capable of that kind of voice, which we can hear pretty clearly, and she ends up compensating with a halfway soprano voice that really doesn't fit the song at all. She does the same in the ending. Other than that, she does it perfectly. And if you didn't know it. Marko was supposed to "drown" Anette's voice in the chorus, since his voice is supposed to be the strong one in this song. Here, Floor overpowers Marko, which also kinda ruins the song a bit. Not saying this is a bad performance, because that wouldn't be true. I am saying it could have been better. Still with they would have gotten Anneke van Giersbergen instead of Floor Jansen. That would have been the ultimate band. But one can only dream I guess.
One thing I've notice comparing the 2 singers, Annette sung the song nicely, but when Floor sings it, you feel it. The emotion in her voice pulls you in right from "Christ how I hate what I've become." absolutely beautiful Floor!
Annette had more emotions in this song but unfortunately we have not an official video for this song. Annette left the stage crying in Buenos Aires because she was already a mother and with her ex husband had problems with child's custody. In many concert never sung the last part because of this,it was very painful to sung the last part. Floor sing perfect, she gives a lot of emotions in this song and as a mother herself now, she understands complete the drama of a parent. But we complete understanding the drama of Tuomas Holopainen that time but because of his drama he wrote this personal masterpiece. The first six album was directly from his heart the last three was from imagination, science and universe. All albums are great but some more personal to him.
This was such a beautiful journey to go through.
No doubt.

I'm 64, a rock guy....never even heard of this band, my youngest son suggested them. Best thing I ever listened too. Everything else is just noise.
Yes, mind blowingly awesome and in a league of their own. 56 years old here and had not heard of Nightwish or Floor until around 18 months ago when I was pestered by a good friend to listen to this live performance. Reluctantly I did and was blown away and have been every day since. Phenomenal band. 🙏😊👍❤️

"You have such oceans within" - It always makes me cry like a baby, such a masterpiece
The entire last verse, but especially that line. Especially right after the sound of the blade making its final descent.

I don’t know what’s makes me more sad. This beautiful song, or the fact 99% of people don’t know it exists.
The marketing isn't great, is it?
To be fair, metal is still a niche genre sadly compared to other genres. Which is a shame as in my opinion some of the best singers and musicians in general belong to the this genre.
it’s one of my favorite songs, but it makes me feel so sad, I just can’t explain what I feel while listening to this piece of live poetry . I think it’s a common reaction for nightwish songs 🥺💖

I saw them live in 2018. During this Song, all people around me, (also the big metal Guys) we're crying.
It was such an emotional moment. really great.

But it felt so great, it was more than a show, it was a whole experience! I could see that the band was enjoying it such as the fans!
And obviously I saw the “big metal dude” crying to! 🤘🏽
I mean it's a suite of songs about drowning in depression, flirting with suicide, and fantasizing about one's own death. I think that's pretty sad
I always see Nightwish fans holding up "Thanks for the emotions" signs and think, "That goes for me too"
Maybe because it it a song about Tuomas' darkest hours...

This is possibly the most insane, maximalist song ever composed, and its fucking amazing.
I hate to call it prog, because of all the trappings associated with the genre, but this is true potential of a progressive rock/metal masterpiece done right. It covers the emotional gambit of a 19th century composition, yet slaps like only rock can.
Although is a great piece, nothing comes close to the 60-minute journey of "Light of Day, Day of Darkness." in what comes to insane composing.

Tears.... EVERY FREAKING TIME.
Timeless masterpiece.
I bawl my eyes out when Tuomas starts to sing. You can see how much he is feeling it. 😭😭😭
Timestamp?
Tuomas is an absolute genius.
The themes, the emotion, the orchestral, cinema-like sounds are just beyond any other musician I've ever heard.
Iam nr 11.. i know this band for nearly 18 years now. Floor still draws tears with this song.

Yeah all 3 are masterpieces but gun to my head Poet is the the better of the 3. While those other 2 came from pure creativity and Tuomas' brilliant imagination, Poet came from somewhere deep, somewhere dark, a place few see.

The devinitiy of her brilliant soprano and that grunting for the real dark parts she is able to show up in a single song is more than remarkable. Or as someone in a critic put it: Most singer sing just what they can, Floor can sing whaterver she WANTS.
TARJA It the bets
She is in a different league. Perfection.
Not just the NW singer but one of the best if not the best female singers in the world today
I think Floor is the best all-around singer for Nightwish. But, there are songs where Tarja or Anette are just better suited. I really enjoy all three ladies and all of Nightwish's music.
It's so sad theres not a "superlike" button out there, I would have smashed it.
John Thomson Maine is Álmost Europe😉.
@@oswaldveroor: We're close. Nightwish should come visit.
Combine that with the hopeful ending, and Floor's beautiful vocals... oof.
John Thomson Spoiler alert It's a song about Bigfoot. 😉
cheers John!
When Marko sings his part solo he is playing a nice riff. Not easy doing both things at the same time AND looking like he is going to kill the public also.
:( now what
@@spookytricksandtreats5311 :(
I've always loved the bass riff part and Marco's solo, too. As a bass player that cannot sing and play at the same time, I'm always in awe of Marco. Especially in this part of the song.
Indeed as a bassist player I tell you that it’s insane divide your brain in two: one for world one for God, save me... sorry one for lyrics one for bass line, save me :D
He is the son of Odin and Gunhilde (Sweyn Forkbeard's sister).
I cannot listen to this song while driving. It takes me though the entire spectrum. It grabs me and takes me on an adventure to the point that I lose focus on the road.
This is the best song ever written, and the best song ever lived performed, sung by the best female singer ever
I'm back again 🙏😊👍❤️
I cry everytime
This is perhaps one of the greatest, most moving songs I've ever listened too, I wont say pleasure cause that would be doing a disservice to the absolute pain and mental agony that gave birth to its genius. Its moving, its beautiful, its raw, its harsh, its a 13 minute roller coaster into emotion. It captures that time-slice in Tuomas's life forever in the notes of this pure masterpiece and as someone who has a long history of mental health issues, I understand completely why he needed to retire this after this performance, to break the continual connection to this moment from living in his mind in the present.
Beautifully said, I completely agree.
BEST Nightwish song ever!!!
After listening to this song you will raise your standard of quality and may leave you frustrated wanting always something at that level! But there are only ONE and unique The poet and the pendullum! Thanks Toumas!
I totally agree🤘💪
To me this was the pinnacle of Nightwish in terms of band composition... this performance sends shivers down my spine everytime I experience it....
I love Emppu’s face when Marko starts singing 😁
It's not just the lyrics that speak...the music, the visuals, the expressions of the band members - it all says so much. Thank you Nightwish for this masterpiece.
I personally think that Toumas singing along is the most emotional part. At 12:10, I nearly cried. You can see the pain in his face. Just imagining the pain he went through while writing this is emotional. We love you, Toumas!
Yes, can feel his pain
Notice most of the band check on him throughout the performance? Obviously Kai can’t but they are such a well oiled machine.
Nightwish at the top of their game . .. .. meaningful, musical, and beautiful.
For me this is by far their best song and one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And played by this lineup is a joy to listen to. So sad we will never hear it again like this...
The eternal stream. Nothing really dies. It just transforms into something new. Beautiful.
Tuomas, you did it. This is a perfect song and Floor is Valkyrie to help you arrive to the Valhalla. Respect
Marko had so much range in his voice!! He could go from soft and sweet to aggressive and chaotic just like that.
Floor, I have to say, and everyone confirms that ... you not only complement Nightwish to the fullest ... you are not a substitute for Tarja, no! You are the crowning glory of this band !!
The missing link
No, not everyone "confirms" that at all. Tarja > Floor.
"Be still my son, you're home" 💜💜
I always believed this track was an absolute masterpiece! Part 5: Mother and Father from this performance is simply art in its most exquisite form. God bless you guys for sharing your incredible work with the world.
Probably the best song performed by Floor.
Emppu is a great musician.
Marco is amazing and I have no words to describe how impressive Tuomas is as a composer, his lyrics and music always help me in difficult moments, they are my favourite band, thanks for making us feel magic.
Don't forget Kai. He's a beast on the drums
The guitar player is fun to watch he just casually roams the stage doing his thing interacting with other members of the band making them smile
Nailed the reason why every version that Floor has done stands out from every other singer for me, such passion and emotion from start to finish.
absolutely agree. I can't listen to a Floor version of any Nightwish song without tears
I found it the other way around, Annette's version brought an innocence to the song. It sounded much better.
The like button isn't enough to express how good this masterpiece is
This will always be my favorite nightwish song of all time
One of the best songs ever made! And this Wembley performance is the best you can imagine from this song!
the last chapter of this song is just straight beautiful and sad. love the emotion Floor brings out to the end.
