i just love light scratches, faded dials, and yellowed lume. removing these would reduce the character of the watch, history of its wearer, and authenticity as it would be harder to detect whether its original or a modern reissue

Same here. As much as I admire the skill of the watchmaker I'd personally never send my watch to Oris for a refurb.
