- In this video I am showing you how I managed to destroy the crystal of a brand new moonswatch mission to the Mars by accident. A thing that will help you not to repeat it. Also you will see a side by side with the mission to the moon version.
Enjoy
Amazing, a $260 watch with a plastic "crystal" so delicate that its own storage box is able to noticeably scratch it. Without the Omega and Swatch names on it, this plastic watch would sell for $40 or less.

This is exactly what happened to my crystal, too. I am happy someone talks about it.
Finally some actual review on the wear and tear of this watch. Most RUclipsrs just covered the hype and not the actual quality of the watch. Thanks!
You described it accurately as a toy. If it can't take being treated normally, worn normally, owned normally, it's a toy.

said it perfectly. what a ridiculous situation.
I am glad that you were able to recover from the crystal scuffs. However - the more that I learn about the Omega/Swatch tie-up the less I desire to get one. Seriously, this level of damage from the 'protective' packaging is unforgivable. Perhaps these watches would be more at home in a blister pack. This is how cheap consumable toys are usually packaged, right?
I agree with you
And why couldn't the case be metal ? Bio Ceramic Plastic ? No thanks ...
My thoughts exactly.
@@Rareparrot Probably made from old PET bottles, but 'bio-ceramic' appeals to plenty of people more. If I want something exotic - I will wear a Ti watch, but pretty happy with my S/S cases thank VM. Cheers.

I've never been so glad I _didn't_ wait hours in line for a cheap plastic watch. That is unacceptable and to think how many people are getting this watch, some kids, and how quickly its going to be completely ruined. And $260 is not exactly low cost for what probably costs Swatch $20 to make. It was never a good deal and certainly not for above retail. Never so glad indeed.
I never understand how people pay for plastic watches over 1k buggs, this is brainwashing sorry. You can buy for 250 Euro some better watches Orient,Seiko etc.
Its so easy to scratch the Plastic, why they make not mineralglass for this high Price for the watches ???
Even crazier if you think about the people that bought one grey for 1-2k. It was only a blessing for all those f***ing flippers

Can get a watch from ali with saphire crystal, real movement, real WR, ss bracelet for less.
The value is just not there for moonswatch.
This watch is like a Richard Millie and Omega had a baby. Just imagine the thousands of dollars people pay for RM’s lolol
The silver lining: Thanks to Moonswatch, more people are discovering one of the best watch channels on RUclips.
Yeah!!!
Okay, as an owner of one of these, a couple massive misconceptions. These aren't apologies or excuses, but simply a correction on some misunderstandings in the comments. (1) The watch ships with a crystal protection clear adhesive cover that would prevent this. (2) The box is not "cardboard" or "hardened paper". It is a textured, flexible plastic. (3) Based on my individual anecdotal experience, I'm unable to replicate this by storing it *once* in the box. I *could*, however, imagine this could happen if shipping it without the factory protective crystal adhesive. Take this for what you will.
@@HotCacahuete exactly 🤣🤣🤣
@@HotCacahuete Your comment is for people who cannot cope with being stupid enough to actually buy one ahahah
You can get all of them for the standard price off the website. No one is jelly, we're just not hypebeasts who have now bought the toy shop equivalent of a swatch. For the same price, a Citizen blows this out of the water, and a Seiko demolishes. At that price point a cheapo Michael Kors or Invicta do a better job, sad really, that Omega went full cash grab here.
@@vandalg282 Kors and Invicta are servicable. You can replace a crystal, there are scews to disassemble and clean and lubricate,. This watch has fused to case plastic window. No screws as metal frame parts are spot weleded. It it a throwawy watch like many of the Swatch ceap watches are. Even the colour in the plastic case leaches onto skin and leaves a stain.
@@HotCacahuete Jelly about a plastic watch, seriously. You really are the pure definition of a consumer , your the type of people we target 🐑
I was exited and very eager to get my hands on one when I first learned about the crossover. So naturally on the day of launch, I went to my local Swatch store like many others did. I'm glad I turned back once I saw the flock of people from afar. Thanks to the macro shots that many great folks on RUclips have shown, the quality just isn't there even for a Swatch (or a toy), let alone Omega. I don't want it now, and I'll stick to my real, mechanical moonwatch, thanks.
Should've got there earlier
For those who are unaware - paper is the worst thing to cut with a knife because it will dull the knife extremely fast. Paper is ABRASIVE and will even scratch stainless steel (try rubbing a mirror polished watch against that box... or better yet, trust me and DON'T :)). It's absolutely normal that it would scratch a plastic crystal, that's why they put the protective film on it. I'm willing to bet the same thing would happen to the Hesalite on an Omega, maybe not to the same degree, but it would. Is a hesalite Omega also a toy? :)
Yes, every glasses wearer knows you should not use paper towels to wipe off your glasses. Cardboard is the worst. It often still contains 'contaminates' like tiny sand particles.
This entire Moonswatch phenomenon is so absurdly surreal! I purchased a Citizen Promaster Eco Drive Diver for 190 dollars and i reckon its 10 times the quality of a MoonSwatch. A beautiful robust dive watch that will last a life time>Moonswatch
Citizen is an underrated god tier. Eco drive is a killer.
10 times better?
It's more like 1000 times better.
@Cortesevasive Ikr, Citizen is such a massively underrated watchmaker.
I see so many low IQ watch enthusiasts (watch snobs) call Citizen a "mall brand", even though the company has the most prestige in Japan and Asia, more so than Casio and Seiko.
I'm typing this message whilst wearing my Citizen Skyhawk. 😎
Skyhawk , surely a god tier.
Yeah well the problem maybe we get the basic citizens in west. I look#ed up *the citizen* which is for japanese domestic market and they have like caliber 0100 like 1sec/year accuracy. paper dials and 37 +38mm cases all like grand seiko and more quality. 5sec/year which is more accurate than Grand Seiko. Simply god tier watches.

Probably the same with the real hesalite moonswatch crystal.
@@arkiepoo If you mean the hesalite on the real moonwatch, not the moonswatch as you wrote, no it's not so delicate. I have one myself, the crystal has a more vintage feel about it, but it doesn't scratch easily. I've never had to use polywatch on it, but I've seen that it buffs out slight scratches easily. I think the crystal on the Swatch is just cheap shite of some kind, maybe a moulded clear polyester resin or even recycled plastic soft drink bottles, who knows, the whole thing is basically rubbish with a cheap movement.

Hello Andrei, thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. I'm sorry you experienced these issues. You should be commended for you honesty, integrity and values...exemplary and always joyful to find in a person.
To be honest, eventhough I own an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch, I was enthusiastic about getting a MoonSwatch. Not anymore. The more I've read and the more videos I've watched I'm at a point where I'm not interested anymore. What I did instead of trying to get a MoonSwatch I just bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot Special Edition for $375. This I believe is a much better piece as it dies have true historical value, and it is a very well built watch with an ultra high frequency quartz movement. The only downside to this watch is that it is a little big, however I don't mind this at all.
Please do share your video of using polywatch to eliminate minor surface scratches from acrylic crystals.
Thank you very much.

Can't believe so many people are prepared to buy this watch, when they could add another 100 euros and get a 'proper' moon watch from Bulova. Incredible how brand naming can manipulate common sense, something very uncommon nowadays.
I did not buy it myself but i must say i was interested in it.
The reviews ofcourse turned me off in a instant. Most people were expecting decent quality and not trash, to me thats understandable.
I’d go as far to say this is aimed at not only Omega fans, but 80’s kids (like me) who had the original Swatch (with the Swatch Guard of course).
We know this is a “poor-man’s Omega” and will get eye roll from real watch guys. But in the end, people should buy what they like and if this is it, so be it.

Honestly, the more I hear about this watch, the less that I want one. They are an overpriced plastic toy, with nothing more than a cheap quartz movement, with a cheap plastic case and a very fragile ?dial cover? I mean, people complain about Seiko and their proprietary Hardlex Mineral Crystal, but you really have to mistreat a Seiko crystal to get it to scratch. If it wasn't that Swatch owned Omega, this range never would have happened. I understand the allure, but it should be priced accordingly. You could get many different ISO certified Diver watches, with auto or in-house quartz movements that would last decades, for the price of one of these. Good luck to those that have them and enjoy them, just be careful. Cheers.
You are such a gentleman for refraining yourself from calling the watch A F__KING PIECE OF S___T.
Im a little puzzled over this whole moonswatch craze. A better option is to get a Speedmaster homage if you like the design - a homage built with good materials and a decent movement inside. I did, and for less than half the price of the moonswatch. It even has sapphire crystal, so no scratches expected. The only thing this very capable watch lacks is the Omega logo. The only thing the moonswatch have is the Omega logo - but it lacks all the rest. I think this whole deal is a funny illustration over human irrationality to be honest. An almost philosophical lesson provided by companies Omega and Swatch :-)
Hi @anders kohkoinen Where did purchase your speedmasrer homage? Like to get one too. Thanks in advance.
@@Giuseppe_est.2008 : Its a Pagani Design PD 1701. Bought it for just umder $100 during an Ali Express sale. Check it out, its got a Seiko mechaquartz movement inside.

Your final closing comment is spot on! "This watch is a Swatch not an OMEGA".....
I’m the original poster of the Neptune with the stained arm on Facebook. My Crystal also arrives scratched brand new on the exact same position.
As someone who bought the Pagani Design version of this watch with Sapphire crystal and Sapphire bezel, I'm very happy with my decision.
Holy hell...I'm hard on my watches to the point that I've scratched sapphire crystals. I kinda don't want to deal with something that paper scratches.
I am so glad for this video. A cheap plastic Swatch had people standing in line for hours. 🤦🏽
Yikes! The box did that! Thanks for letting us know! That incident just pushed me into my decision not to obtain one. Even cheap"er" watches can withstand that abuse - including toy watches.. They are too fragile and too costly to be labelled as a toy, but that is what they seem to be. Owners should then consider to use it like a "disposable fun toy" watch and not worry about it or as "pure collectibles" to be stored away and admired. Anything in between should consider other watches first.
I understand not putting sapphire crystals on, even though I have two stainless cased automatics with Japanese movements and sapphire crystals under $300. But I can't believe they didn't at least put a mineral crystal on. If it can be scratched by its own box, it's not a serious product.

Box didn’t do that they come with plastic protective cover 😂
If I may offer my own experience/rant with Swatch:
I have a Swatch Irony Sistem51. I got it in NYC because I thought to movement was a really cool innovation and I wanted it as a unique talking point in my collection. A year later, I don't like it. I scratched the "crystal" the first time I wore it with my motorcycle jacket. Yeah, it's rough fabric, but it's a $250 watch. My Vostok has never had a problem with that, and while that's purely circumstantial evidence, if the Vostok does get scuffed the crystal is thick enough that I can polish it without feeling like I'm removing a significant portion of the material.
The plastic buckle (did I mention it's a $250 watch?) snapped and I replaced it with a metal one from Amazon.
They say it has 30m water resistance, but the way the crown offers so little resistance, I'm nervous to even splash it.
If it wasn't for the nostalgia of the trip where I got it, it'd be gone. The moment it fails it's going in the trash and I'm never getting another one. Not that I have an option, because it's completely impossible to repair. Did I mention that it's a $250 watch?
I feel like I have to type this facing away from it because it's so fragile these words might snap the pallet fork.
Meanwhile, my Seiko 5 that I got around $100 has been with me mountain biking, swimming, backpacking, clay shooting, etc. Still keeps great time, and I'm about to replace the crystal with a sapphire one because it's not built to be disposable so you can do things like that.
If I had a quartz Swatch for 50 bucks, maybe I'd be less bitter. But for the price, I just don't get it. (Did I mention the price?)
Way too many warnings about this watch to justify the ownership of one.
Thanks for the video. When buying plastic, gonna stick to the tried and true Casio :D
Sorry, it's an overpriced substandard quartz watch.
Great review...Thanks for saving me $260! If Swatch had encased it in stainless steel, like some of their other chronographs...I may have gone for it....but with the headache of plastic...no way am I putting out 260 US dollars.
So as daily swatch wearer, I am used to the lightweight "toy" feel of the watches as well as the plastic Cristal. I have come to really appreciate that lightweight nature on the wrist, it is a big plus in comfort. As for the Cristal, I certainly wouldn't mind a saphire, but the plastic does do the job. Yes it scratches, but can be polished easily. They do it for free in 5 minutes at a swatch shop. Also, it contributes to that super light weight which is so nice. All in all, when I get a swatch, I buy it as an user item.. Not a piece to pass on to my children. Turns out they daily great, the negatives of "fragile" plastic are easily compensated by the low price and light weight.
hey so is the moonswatch’s build quality the same as a swatch?
Low price?
These watches cost around £300 lol.
I'm guessing you're referring to the standard Swatch watches, but even then I'd just buy a Casio or Timex.
Great video as always and definitely makes me think about how much I want the MoonSwatch...think I'll be happy to wait until the madness goes away. Cheers!
Don’t bother ……it’s pure crap
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.
Thanks for your video.
That's ridiculous and very strange because I've owned a regular plastic swatch for almost 3 years and I've never gotten such ridiculous scratches on its crystal and never had to buff it. I can't imagine they would use an even cheaper crystal for the moonswatch.

@@dovs96 or maybe people will pay more attention to their watches when they pay higher prices for them, and cheap watches are easily replaceable. I can ignore all the scratches on an $30 Casio but I definitely can't stand deep scratches or imperfection on an $1000 watch.

Finally someone who agrees. Thank you, man!
Very important....when polishing with Polywatch or any abrasive paste for plastic cristals it is important that you don't make circles. You should go STRAIGHT from top to botom, form botom to top and then from left to right...and right to left...changing angles gradually...and the reason is that you have to always return to the polished surface to soothen the microscopic grooves you are creating over the already scrached surface. If you do circles, you will never match the previous scratches.
Thank you for allowing me not to make an ‘expensive’ mistake. Just buy normal = best advice.

I’d rather get Mission to Sapphire! Thats the one to get 😅 Great video as always!
I took my family to stand in line for 9 hours and we got 5 moon swatches. When opened for the first time every single one of them had a protective sticker that looked it was dragged around on a dusty floor or worn for a month as a crystal protector. It made me confused and suspicious how this could happen, but since it was the same for all of them, and if you look at photos on eBay for ones for sale all over the world (with the sticker still on) it seems to somehow be completely standard. Under the protective stickers 4/5 of the crystals were fine, but one had a few tiny yet somewhat deep scratches on the side of the crystal where it rises at a near 90 degree angle up from the surface of the dial. The fact that these scratches are kind of deep and the horrid condition of all the stickers makes me think this is NOT being damaged by the box. I suspect there’s something else going on with their manufacturing/packing process that is doing this. Not sweating the tiny scratches on the one as they can’t really be seen without magnification, but it’s just really odd how these come looking almost intentionally roughed up while being completely new and carefully opened.
You sold them on I bet.
What a waste of your time & money
So . . . can I offer a dissenting voice? I got a Mission to Jupiter back when these were released on March 26. Been wearing it every day. I love it. It's fun. And it is really no more of a toy than a Rolex Datejust (used to have one of those) or a Seiko Grand Master (still have one of those), etc. With today's cell phones, almost no one NEEDS any watch anymore. They're ALL toys!
However, there are three things I think they should have addressed at this price point. Number one is exactly what is covered here: the plastic crystal. Not just plastic, but really, really CHEAP plastic. Number two is water resistance. They really should have brought this up to 10 ATM so you could safely shower, bathe, and swim with it. Three is the velco strap. Velcro does not last. Again, for this price they should have also included a cheap NATO strap or rubber watch band.
ehee, that would had been amazing. to make the watch more reliable. And I agree with you, It is a fun watch on a regular strap. A part of me enjoys it, and the other parts says sell it for what you paid for and get a metallic one :D

The scratching issue sums up what I feared about this watch. A cheap-to-make item that will not stand the test of time or indeed any proper normal use. Holy crap, that’s incredible bad luck, well done on getting the scratches out...
If you can repair your watch with a bit of polish and cloth, then I would hardly call it destroyed. Too much drama, which is a shame because it makes you look biased. I get it, these watches scratch easily. Everybody expected as much given the material. Yes it is a major turnoff, but that in itself doesn't kill the watch. Try to polish out a hardlex crystal and see how that works.

@@REDVETTExxx besides, I think it to be quite childish to laugh at people about this. It is their money and their preferences. I hope that those who bought these are happy with it. Does this make you feel bigger, is it cropped up jealousy? I don't get it.
You can take the watch as well to any swatch store and they do polishing for free with a polishing machine that is in all swatch stores.
I find it so hard to believe that it scratched so easily. What a shame…
Btw, who’s that Anthony ogle fool posting such ignorant comments? The guy probably doesn’t even know how to speak English properly, let alone a second language
haha, I had to pick up a phone and he deleted the comment in the meantime, I wanted to politely reply. it is what it is. My english is not the best but It think it gets better and better. :)
@@BraveBeaters I think your English is great. Sure, you have an accent but that’s it man. I’d like to see that dude try to say one phrase in Italian. See how that comes out 🤣
I really wonder what the actual production costs are, given the overall QC and material quality of these watches. A bit astounded this watch even has "Swiss Made" on it, given that should have passed some Swiss quality control. It should at least have some form of mineral glass for that price..
I bought a Seiko Solar Tuna instead. Okay it cost me a little over half the cost of the Moonswatch again but it's a classic watch steeped in history. These watches are merely plastic replicas. Fun admittedly but not good value at those prices.
This just makes the people who paid over retail that much dumber.
Well, you've managed to totally destroy any enthusiasm I might have had for owning a MoonSwatch.
And for that I have to offer up a massive "Thank You!"
A watch crystal that gets destroyed rubbing against its own cardboard case is, IMHO, simply not fit for purpose. I never harboured any illusions that the MoonSwatch was going to be as durable as it's Omega inspiration. But a watch that's so fragile that its going to be irreparably marred by even the lightest use and wear, simply isn't worth the money.
I'll continue to suffer with my ±30 year old Rolex Submariner, which looks as flawless as the day I bought it, new, from a Rolex retailer. Best $1100 I ever spent.
My father got me the jupiter moonswatch as a gift and when I first unboxed it I noticed that with a specific lighting I can see tiny scratches on the crystal that also make a shadow on the dial. The watch also had the protective transparent sticker on it. Luckily the scratches are almost invisible and only seem like a optical /lightning illusion so it's not a problem for me but that's absolutely absurd
I am sorry to hear that. hope you will enjoy it :)
I've seen other reviews where they say it's very easy to scratch the crystal and almost impossible to polish out the scratches, even with polywatch.
I came for my daily dose of MoonSwatchch videos...
Folks, Swatches are, and have always been- fashion pieces. Too many of you have a completely wrong idea about the Moonswatch and its purpose. It is NOT a "beater" watch to wear in the place of anything else. No Swatch could hold up to being a 'beater' watch, nor should it! SWATCH stands for "second watch" and should always be treated as just that- your SECOND watch, worn accordingly. It is fun and fashionable, not a damn G-Shock. Watch people often have trouble comparing like-with-like. Just read the comments. They are comparing this to Seiko 5s, Orient divers and G-Shocks! E.G.- this is not a tool watch, nor is it a beater watch, nor a dress watch, nor an aspirational piece, nor an investment piece, etcetera...heck, Swatches are BARELY even watches! Oftentimes, telling time on one is difficult because the STYLE and LOOKS of the Swatch comes before being able to tell the time! It is a quartz watch, but barely...
Get off your high horses, people. This is a fashion piece for fashionable people. They know this isn't for everyday wear. You should, too. Like all fashions, these aren't made to last forever. They are made to LOOK GOOD. And they do. Mission accomplished. (Pun intended.)
XD accept that the watch is trash. A Casio for 30 bucks is also a "fashion watch" and I can wear it everyday and while doing impact sports without it taking damage. The MoonSwatch is a nice idea but a shitty execution.
@@champstation143 A $30 Casio is a fashion piece? Yeah, and how exactly? Look son, I grew up in the age of Swatch and REAL fashion. I think you don't know what fashion means and how Swatch worked in that realm- then and now. This whole concept flew over your head, as you argued the way one who doesn't "get it" argues. Go buy your cheap Casio and enjoy it. The comparison of the two is preposterous. I don't have to agree with you. Swatch did what Swatch does- make amazing looking Swiss quartz Art fashion accessories that people like to LOOK at. These are not tools. You just don't know Swatch.
@@mrfuriouser XD I had Swatch since I was a little kid and now I am wearing Rolex and Omega aswell as Casio and Tissot. So please fck off with your stupid assumptions and don't try to explain style and fashion to me.
I don't own one yet, thank you for the heads up on the moon watch....let just keep it real, I'm right, I guess no moon watch for me.....great content 👍👍⌚..
my china copy is better than this original omega swatch 🤦😂
If you take a Swatch watch to any Swatch store (not an authorized seller, but their own stores) they polish the dome for free and remove any scratches with their specialized machinery while using their own compound. The process takes 10 minutes and it is like brand new afterwards. You can only do that around 5 times in total before you need to replace the whole dome though, since it thins the outer layer so much it might become fragile. I've done this many times since their plastic polymer dome is extremely prone to scratching. :D
This watch is a piece of crap. It makes Timex look like Rolex!
Timex is Rolex in this case :D I just received a Q for review and I am impressed :)
@@BraveBeaters look forward to that review! ;)
This is a great watch-for my 12 year old son who loves my Speedmaster but isn’t quite making Speedmaster money yet. I’m sure others similarly situated will get a big kick out of it, as long as they understand that this is NOT the equivalent of an actual Omega Speedmaster. If, for the retail price, you enjoy the taste of Speedmaster experience it offers, that’s great. But nobody should for one minute entertain the idea that this will permanently, or even for any considerable length of time, slake their Speedmaster thirst. It’s a great looking Swatch, but it’s still a Swatch.
This doesn't give me speedmaster experience. it gives me headaches.
Thanks for the video. You've saved me the cost of a MoonSwatch. I wanted this watch, but i purchase things to use - not to store because i'm too scared to use the item. This watch is now a hard pass from me which is gutting. :/
My 20 yr old G-Shock has similar scratches. But all the functions work just as new, had to replace the battery 5 times.
thanks for the tips about the box I will try to do this when I buy it
great video ! I subscribed !
