You are killing it. FYI: I have a pretty significant watch collection, but my family and I enjoy trying to stop by a swatch shop whenever we go on vacation since we don’t have one here in Portland, which, by a different color swatch. I want to live somewhat of a low profile life and I feel uncomfortable, wearing some of my watches in certain situations, but not this one. rather these watches, have personality and omega blast this relationship, they’re not shamelessly stealing the intellectual property of somebody else. Talk about switching out the straps, more, somewhat of a fashion twist on loving watches, watch, crunch, rocks. Keep up the great great work.

Today I looked at the exhibition pieces to get a closer look. I must say, the colours are really well captured online. That’s what they look like. But “bioceramic” suggests a material a bit weightier than plastic. It is not. I was told it was more scratch resistant though. Availability is still a bit up in the air and apparently there are still queues in the mornings. I guess we will have to wait for a bit.

Maybe we've come around a corner where a men's watch can just be a fun accoutrement?
I've been a watch snob for decades, now I'm just a snob. My wife fluctuates between many different pieces of jewelry and watches at all different price points. I used to get on her for wearing "fake" costume jewelry, I now see their value.
I have a 1950 Omega seamaster along side modern heavier pieces, they all have their value and place. I'd love a few of these new moon swatches in different colors. Aside from watch enthusiasts, most people don't care or notice what you're wearing. Wear and own what brings a smile or a laugh or a memory and don't buy too much into anyone's opinion. It is but a temporary brief life enjoy your time and the watches that mark it.

First, I like these and these are really cool fun watches. I was resistant to considering this as an Omega and a Speedmaster. Wanted to call this an officially licensed homage. BUT, I've given into considering this a legit Omega Speedmaster, just a very relatively inexpensive version made and sold by Swatch.
Definitely not worth paying flipper price hikes for. Please don't waste your hard earned money for being impatient and give these losers the satisfaction of ripping you off.
And, I certainly don't think this will deter those who want a real luxury Omega Speedmaster from still wanting one. Conversely, it should get more people interested in eventually getting the real steel someday, provided it is financially in the cards and stars.
This is not at all a substitute for the real luxury Omega Speedmaster. Just an inexpensive version for those who are fine with the look and brand and name(s) at a fairly easy to afford price point.
Keep in mind these are still at its essence a Swatch in build and the disposable factor. Like all Swatches, hermetically sealed, these are never meant to be serviced so once they have gone kaput, that's it. Need to buy another one, provided they are still available at the time if and when your Swatch has broken.
I don't think it's scratch resistant like real ceramic. Random Rob already said he scratched it removing the stock strap.
These are cool.. but, I think I'd only get one that speaks to me the most. Hopefully they will be restocked and available online sooner than later. I'm in absolutely no hurry.
Idk? Maybe over time I may add the next best one for kicks when I feel like adding something new without going too expensive, then another later when it seems right, etc... But, getting all 11? Idk? I think spending probably over $3k in the end after taxes and maybe shipping costs seems a bit excessive for 11 of essentially the same watch, just cosmetically different.

    • @Vertical_Gotham
      @Vertical_Gotham 2 года назад +3

@@bryanryan4504 @Jason 88 I beg to differ. It has Official Omega logo & speedmaster name on it. It’s official merchandise. I don’t know how one can just magically erase those official stamps. It’s Omega with swatch materials. The Moonswatch is even on the Omega website…unless it’s a fake official Omega website. The price is cheap, you can just buy a replacement down the line if the thing doesn’t last since it is not a limited piece.
Personally.. imo, I’m a rolex guy and if Rolex did such a collab i would have a hard time accepting it but… if they came out with a submariner version of it, i supposed i would not be a happy camper. But i can be rest assured, Rolex would never do such a thing to it’s brand. Is this a genius move for Omega with this collab as many are saying?? Well, time will tell.

The current speedmasters arent moonwatches as well per se, theyre just nasa certified, thats the major difference in my head (besides the bracelet, movement, materials used ).. so this collab, really saved me (and maybe a couple of others) thousands of dollars… Obviously i run with perspective no 3.

The current Speedmaster isn’t even qualified by nasa. The last model qualified by nasa was the calibre 861 in 1978. The only currently qualified Speedmaster is the gen 2 X33. The new Skywalker is only qualified by the ESA.

Best video on this subject, Max. But I expected that. But here we have versions 1436 and onwards of a Speedy and they just keep piling up. Cure for insomnia: imagine all the variations of a Speedy jumping over a fence. It all means nothing now, but still we have sleep-overs to get hands on a plastic one. So what do I know? That said, if it keeps the wider public excited about watches that's fine by me. Hmmm...

I had been waiting for these to become available online or at least, an announcement of that happening. In an interview published today with Swatch's Creative Director, a comment he makes sounds like that might not happen. (despite what the website says). "Ultimately, it comes back to the tactile. “In a moment where so many people are speaking about NFTs and digital projects and immaterial ownership, this is so physical that it’s not even for sale online,” Giordanetti concludes." Is he stating that in the present sense, or does he mean that this will be a permanent part of the marketing strategy? I did see another reviewer mention the scratches after just a few days. Max...good perspective on this collection. I agree with you. It's fun, but it's plastic.

The flipping thing floors me that people would pay about 1/2 of used steel omega. I am sure this will go the same way that whole timex pepsi thing went. I didn't get one, but the store closest to me said they would just put me on a list for when they got stock since they were told they will get them.

  • @ericfan9149

I own a Speedmaster, and think this is a pretty cool collab. Yeah, it's plastic and a Swatch at heart, but the Speedmaster design language is so iconic and pleasing, I think it works as a fun style accessory all the same. People get a bit too serious about watches sometimes. These are not serious watches, but they do have a definite "kid in the candy store" fun factor, and they're very accessible (at least from a price perspective.) I certainly would never splash out for another genuine Speedmaster, but I would pick up one of these just for fun.

I'm sort of glad that the Moonswatch came out. Now the Speedmaster moon watch snobs will stop saying my beloved Speedy Reduced is not a a real Speedmaster ( which it most certainly is). The Moonswatch is a Speedmaster substitute. It certainly will satisfy the curiosity of what wearing a Speedy feels like but it is not a Speedmaster by any stretch.

Great perspectives, Max! I actually queued up for 4 hours, but when I got there, there were already over 350 people in front of me... Actually that was probably a good thing, because now that the hype is a bit calmer, I don't think I'll get one anymore. Like you said, it's fun, but it's still a plastic watch, and I'm afraid I'd be a bit disappointed. I think I'll use that money to get something more interesting, like a vintage Seiko, for example.

    • @jappmayo1220

Great video. What I’d like to know is, does this feel more like a super affordable Omega? Or a super high end Swatch? I know it’s a collab, and both names are on the dial, but I’m curious which way it leans more in both look and feel, as I’m not sure how it could be smack bang in the middle.

This in my opinion was a double-edged sword. I made Swatch feel like a higher-end brand but then Omega a lower-end brand. I was just at the flagship Omega store here in Vancouver and something looked like a Swatch while looking at the Speedmaster.
P.S. - the Omega sales guy did not seem too happy when I brought up the Omega Swatch collab and asked what he thought about it. LOL

  • @felix72634

It is a fun watch and I believe it should be treated as such, not expecting too much of it since it is still a Swatch. I know it is not a bargain but for me it works and is the watch I use most often. I don't see an issue with it really. And it was a smart move because I know want the real deal, the Moonwatch.

Great reality check on this super hyped watch. I still love it, but $300 for a watch that scratches when an eyelash lands on it? Maybe my old Citrime (which I lost) is a cheaper and more fun option. But well done Omega, I think this could make potential Rolex owners look another way?

I’ve been an Omega fan for years now. I have several vintage pieces and of course also the “real” Speedy.
This MoonSwatch is not supposed to be luxury. As far as I can tell, the only people getting bitter with it are the people that buy a watch as a status symbol and not for the passion of collecting time pieces. It’s a genius marketing move. Giving young horology enthusiasts a starting point. This inevitably will put Omega in peoples minds who maybe never even considered this brand for a luxury time piece.
Omega flipped Rolex the biggest of birds with this. I love Rolex as well, but their scarcity game is very off putting and frustrating.
This one will definitely become part of my collection once it’s available online.
