One thing I would commend on these guys is they actually brought young people into wearing watches again. Timex could learn a thing or two about marketing strats from these guys.
I saw my co-worker wearing the Moonswatch, and started researching because I loved its look. I ended up seeing videos like this, and making the better move and just getting a Casio Duro. The Moonswatch is a brilliant marketing move, but I agree that it's poor value for money.

Also got lucky last autumn - got the moonswatch mission to jupiter. In the first week i already replaced the strap, because it really wears off the velcro very fast. After some weeks i realized that this watch is not a daily beater or a regular. Sold the watch for around 330 euros - which was very cheap for that time and bought myself the pagani copy (or hommage if you want to say it) and a casio ae1200. Just buy quality over quantity, and work your way up to a nice handful of pieces over time. I started with a Casio F-91 special edition that caught my attention, then a G10 field watch, and finally a Bulova Spaceview from the 1960s-70s. My collection is at 3, and I don't feel the need to buy any more. But I bought carefully, and didn't end up with any junk - just classics.
I’ve got the Accurist Retro Racer and put it on a black leather racing strap (you know; 3 holes decreasing in size) with orange stitching to compliment the hands. love mesh straps but it looks great with this mod. Great looking watch for such a low price.
I recently bought two of these Pagani Design Moonwatch clones just for fun as they were under $100. You can't get cheaper than this, and it's still of usable quality with a decent movement (Seiko VK63). But this is not to be taken for granted, another of these China watches - a Seamaster copy with a Seiko NH35 movement - actually had dust grains and little hair on the dial - not many and only visible under a magnifying glass, but definitely there.
@@TopTierTicker the Pagani Design is a good option - period. Excellent value for money, amazing set of specs, and if you set aside the usual anti-homage snobbery, it's really the only option that'll scratch that SpeedMaster itch for those on a budget.

My two most expensive watches are a Seiko and a Bulova lol 🙂 I even said screw it and got the Vincero (The Reserve Automatic White Dial) a couple years ago when it was only $480, and now it’s something like $880 and has become their most popular and expensive watch. That's a great selection. Since the MoonSwatch is very distinguishable, better quality couldn't be the only factor for a proper indication. All the models are beautiful, with a strong identity. No doubt that any one of them is a better choice.
With the Sea-gull, it's the joy of owning a real, column wheel mechanical chronograph movement, based on the swiss Venus 175. It's not based on logic, but passion. I, too, was looking at alternatives including mecha quartz, but they're just not the same. The St1901 movements are reasonably reliable, and mine is quite accurate. I had the crown snap off due to being damaged in shipping and the after sales service was quite good as they sent me a new crown and stem which I got within a week. I was about to buy one of the moon swatches when I landed on your video about getting one. Found this video right after and it led me to the Timex Waterbury Chronograph (similar to the Q) which I am in love with!
Hey that’s sweet! Which planet were you going with? I liked Saturn because of the rings around the bottom dial. Once I learned that it was basically plastic I had to back off as well
I love Seiko’s and have 3, but they are not lifetime watches. 15 years is a good life for one but when they break, Seiko don’t stock parts for them after a certain age.
Every time I hear a watch enthusiast give their take on the moonswatch, it always ends up being about the "omega branding", but literally none of the watches you showed in this video look anything like the moonswatches. Maybe people want them because they look interesting? I'm not a watch enthusiast, and (IMO) the watches listed here look pretty terrible. I agree with you that the value for the moonswatch is terrible, but maybe people are buying them because they don't look like every other watch.
I can’t believe people would stand in long lines at Swatch stores to grab one. I had the Bulova Lunar pilot, it’s a great watch but I had to sell it because it was too big for my skinny wrist. Great list.
I agree on the Bulova Lunar Pilot, it is a great watch but due to the size not for everyone and at a significantly higher price (but still worth it IMHO). AFAIK Bulova will come out with a smaller version. As you mentioned the Seagull, the Alpha Speedy homage is cheaper than the Moonswatch but with a mechanical calibre and full metal with a glass bottom. A colleague of mine owns an Omega Speedy but was still impressed how well the Alpha looks and works. My example also keeps time fine. Last but not least, a Bulova Marine Star 96B272 looks great, is stainless steel and does not cost a lot more. I initially was really keen to buy a Moonswatch, but now would never buy one as it is just a disposable Swatch with Omega printed on it.
I got the $50 fakes from China. Metal case and glass crystal. I put a leather band on the same color as the watch and they look great. I like the Timex you showed.
@@mau81 You can get a great fake from Wish for 30 euro including postage but with no box or papers. They take about 3 weeks for the postage (not that I am encouraging you to buy a fake). For the price of a real one you can get almost the whole collection in fakes.
Owning many Rolexes and Omegas including very exclusive Moonwatches; yet I don’t know 🤷 why, I am still excited 😆 to collect all these 🌚 Swatches and keep them intact. Though I am well aware absout all there problems. There are many better watches, but these Omega X Swatch colors are fun 🤩.
Agree. Handled a Swatch moonwatch recently, and it's no better than crap. The debased fighting and flipping that's gone on is pretty tragic. It's a disposable, plastic joke dog turd, that someone plopped OMEGA on to, and people queued up for it.
Bulova lunar is a great watch unfortunately there is no history to go with the watch because the moon landings was filmed in the Nevada desert and the set from Stanley Kubricks 2001 a space Odyssey great review on your selected watches 😄
I just think the moon swatches just look cooler than all these!!! Obviously not as well made but that’s not there about!!! If you want a well made moon swatch buy omega speed master..
The MoonSwatch does absolutely win on cool points. The idea of it is exciting. I just don't think it's a $250 watch. Should be more around the $100 mark and there wouldn't be an issue.
@@TopTierTicker no it’s definitely not $250 worth of materials I’ve got journey to Mars and my old Casio is made better!!! But I got it only because it looks cool 😎 lol
SSB401 (yes, 401 and not 403 or others) looks like THE way to go among these. I wish it had solar charging and perpetual calendar though. Upd. Got the SSB401P1, almost no complaints for the price.
I got my Moonswatch last week, took it out of the box and put it back in. Today I sold it. I knew it was a toy-like plastic thing, but it was even worse than I thought. Just awful. So I sold it and spent the 300 euros on a mint Seiko SKX009.
I always tell people about the Poljot Strela. It was the first Chronograph in Space. It has a long history, a beautyfull design and costs around 400 Dollars.
Just checked that out now, very cool watch. Thank you for sharing that with me. Might be a watch that features on my channel in the future. Thanks for watching
@@TopTierTicker I have two 1970's originals (Sekonda) They steam up everytime I wear them...not even sweat proof lol. Not a nightclub watch. Love them though. More than that on eBay for the old ones.
Dude . . . I own two Rolex watches, two vintage Panerais, a Zlatoust, a G-Shock Square, and two Moon Swatches. The latter are being used when I DO NOT, NOT, NOT want to have a metal watch on my wrist, i.e., when I go to a shooting match or hiking. Your "alternatives" to the Moon Swatch are no alternatives. If anything, a G-Shock would be an alternative to a Moon Swatch. You've truly been missing the mission of the Moon Swatch. It's a super stylish, super light, super cheap plastic watch. None of your alternatives are an alternative to it.
Not for you but for someone who only has $250 and is looking for a good watch, these are absolutely alternatives to the Moonswatch. Remember, there are different perspectives depending on where you are in your watch collecting journey.
Great video. No bull shit, no overly enthusiastic Americanisms - straight to the point. Very refreshing. To coin a timepiece pun, every second of it is relevant.
im so glad i researched a bit beforehand. I almost pulled the trigger on a moonswatch but after seeing these, oh boy, especially sice i couldnt care less about the branding
This'll sure inspire the high schoolers or college people (even grade school if they have rich dads?) just like how Swatch inspired students to afford a Swiss watch that's fun when they're older, they'll buy the Speedmaster and even the Rolex and Vacheron Constantin and Patek :-) God bless, Rev. 21:4
Im not going to lie i love my 1963 (panda dial version) i would happily pay for it to be serviced its fantastic and i cant recommend it enough! Dont let the fact that its chinese put you off!
I have an Orient Chrono with Tachy and also a Compass bezel it looks a million Buck$, is 100 mtr water resist and was only $200 incl shipping from Singapore, I get comments all the time It is one of the best quality made watches I've ever owned and my collection is now a Dozen but the Orient gets most of the wrist time, next I'm getting an Orient Diver, Watches 88 is an online store and they are my Favorite shopping place online GO!!!!
I bought the mission to the moon and put it inside the case of a Pagani Design moon watch. It looks amazing and it's steel case. But for an extra 100 bucks you have a moonswatch that doesn't suck.
Funny thing is, as much as you've shit on the Moonswatch it's the only quartz option with jeweled magnetic rotors. The ETA inside is disposable and non repairable but it does have 4 rubys hiding inside.
The moonswatch is never about the watch, never about the quality. It's the Omega logo and the phenomenon it created. It's an expensive toy, but also a affordable one that fulfill your vanity of being the popular subject, at least for once.
No warch is water proof. They are water resistant. 100 m is not equal to 100 meter below the surface, it's a calculated 10 bar, and you can actually break the 10 bar, just jumping into a pool. And NEVER shower or use a watch in a public pool, since it will dry out the O-rings and seals, and open up for moisture. 🙂
100m is capable of swimming, snorkeling and a warm but not hot shower. I have used many of my 10bar WR watches doing all three of these activities. I even took a 100m watch in a hot tub and it was fine. These things are tools and are built to withstand these activities. For me, anything below 100m is too risky in these activities as they aren't built to withstand the pressure. I'm fully aware how water resistant certifications are given and advise people accordingly.
@@TopTierTicker But you still states, that a'this watch is waterproof...' in the video. And there's a big difference. And i have seen the damage done by soap and chlorine, on many watches. And if you hit the surface hard, 10 bar can be broken, by the impackt, and you have moisture inside the watch.
You are right if the criteria is to just get a chronograph. But that’s not the point of the moonSwatch. The moonSwatch is meant to be a fun watch that comes in amazing colors with Omega on the dial. I wish there where affordable brands that would offer watches with colored cases and a good design
I feel like people are missing the point of the moonswatch - it's a Swatch not and omega. It isn't intended to be the best watch one can buy for £200 but a commemoration of an iconic well loved timepiece. If you dislike the moonswatch you are probably just thinking of it as something it's not.
I just bought reps of the collection for the same price as 1 gen. I know they are cheap crap either way but I like the colorways and I don’t plan on wearing them.
As I was watching the video I started to type in the Accurist Racer thinking that as in most comparison reviews, it would be overlooked. These are now discontinued but you can still find them at stupidly low prices. A local jewelers was doing these in their sale for £60. I bought two with different dial colours and straps. 😂
Indeed, when I was making the video I even found one retailer selling them for £40. Just ridiculous when you consider the look and specs of the watch. Great deal.
the swatch moonwatch is not desgin for watch enthusiast mate, a standard swatch chrono is cheaper, they also make Stainless Steel version too, people who buying the watch will be who can't afford the omega moonwatch but do like the look of the watch. i am an enthusiast, and still bough the watch because of the look, colour to match cloth and style, most people who selling the watch think getting a profit are idiot as swatch already stated this is not a limited run, so the hype was created but those watch enthusiast thinking it can make some money out of it. i personally waiting until swatch restocked then purchase. as for the crystal is hesalite, also use on the original speedmaster, i see no issue with it. you do have a good recommendation of watches whioch is better then the moonwatch, but for youth this day, they probably prefer the moonwatch for it fashion
@@TopTierTicker thanks so much for you reply! Citizen are easier to get than Seiko in my country, any chronograph you think may enter in this category? Otherwise I can the Seiko you mentioned in ebay... Thanks for your time!
The best chrono that you can throw against a brick wall and survive is an old school G-shock 💪 with its tough resin outer shell and a tough screw down steel case that is rated for 200m water resistance. Way better than any plastic junk 😂
A quartz chronograph can never compete in terms of the history and features that a mechanical chronograph offers. Seagull is therefore the better option
I went to buy an omega planet ocean 45mm but on looking at it I wasn’t impressed especially when I turned the bezel, it made a cheap clicky clacky sound, I thought it sounded cheap!! So I went and bought a hi end replica planet ocean costing £400, I’ll tell you now, it was as good as the genuine thing! Very accurate and fooled ever jewellers I shown it too. Omegas are overpriced and overrated in my honest opinion and they say they have to be serviced every 4-5 years!! I have a 1968 Mido ocean star my dad gave me, never been apart and still runs fine….Omega?? Na wouldn’t touch one.
How about looking at the WT Author range. Some cracking designs and value. I have the Bulova Moon Watch amongst many others. To me Seiko.Prospex X Solar are fantastic value, and look good too.
im not jumping on the hate train i see how this is good for popularity but i love the swatch omega watches they are colorful plastic variations of the omega speedmaster thats all they are supposed to be no one buys them to get a rolex level watch they are fun they are colorful and they are swatch and swatch makes fantastic watches
Cheap ETA is high quality. This is a great watch, like most Swatch watches. FYI, the Swatch Sistem 51 is the most technologically advanced watch of the last decade and commands respect from actual knowledgeable watch experts.
Disagree. ETA Quartz movements are the same as most other quartz movements. Nothing really different in terms of accuracy or quality in comparison with a Seiko/Miyota. Sistem 51 might be 'advanced' however it cannot be serviced. Once it begins to lose/gain too much time it's supposed to go in the bin. If you call that advanced then I don't know what to say. Never claimed to be an expert, I'm an enthusiast that has studied and loved watches for years.
@@TopTierTicker Swatch has been at the forefront of innovation for the last 40 years. This includes the first electromechanical prototype (pre-Spring Drive), Autoquartz, the first smart watch and the first mechanical watch to be built by a fully automated assembly line. It is important to take into account the R&D that is involved in creating a watch when evaluating it.
I had the Swatch Sistem 51 watch and I will not reccomend it to anyone. Unrepairable and unadjustable watch which may be an option only for people who don't know anything about mechanical watches. If it breakes, they will send you a new watch instead the old one. It was a complete mistake for me.
Why people buy MoonSwatch: 1. It looks like the Moonwatch. 2. It has Omega stamp on it. None of the watches you have mentioned in the video qualify with above reason 😂 People buy MoonSwatch either just for fun, or add to their collection. If people want to buy real watch, they won't buy MoonSwatch 😂
Honestly, I just like the Pluto moonswatch look and there was nothing here with a similar look. If I wanted a panda chronograph, I would agree with these choices.
The Seagull 1963 looks nice in pictures, but it really does not sit nice on the wrist. It sits really high. I think I've worn mine 3 times in over 2 years.
All those watches loose to MoonSwatch in one major thing - weight. So, I think some plastic Timex Expedition with digital display at the bottom might be better, if they didn't have loud ticking. Or Timex Expedition Field Chronograph, but it's kind of big at 43 mm and probably heavy too. Or Timex MK1 Aluminum Chronograph 40mm.

I stole a moon swatch from my friends gay cousin and I wore it for about a week before I decided I hated it. I literally gave it to a homeless person.
Sadly the Accurist is discontinued and the Dan Henry is sold out
citizen for me... especially with the solar charging
Remember, there are different perspectives depending on where you are in your watch collecting journey.
i almost bought the moonswatch but after viewing ang handling it i also felt the watch as in all swatch plastic watches wont last long.
If you want another swatch but not a moonswatch which most don’t but irony at night and night flight aren’t horrible options both are cheaper
What about the Casio Edifice. There are many Edifice models that out class the MoonSwatch
Given the requisites for an alternative, the Bulova takes the cake here. That should be number 1 on this list.
For me it's the size that stops it being number one. Even on larger wrists it wears very large.
This'll sure inspire the high schoolers or college people (even grade school if they have rich dads?) just like how Swatch inspired students to afford a Swiss watch that's fun when they're older, they'll buy the Speedmaster and even the Rolex and Vacheron Constantin and Patek :-)
God bless, Rev. 21:4
Excellent watch choices. 45 m Lunar Pilot is the winner.
Pagani Design or Bulova Lunar Pilot would be my suggestions. I’d still buy a Moonswatch when they’re more available, and wear alternatives more often.
Im not going to lie i love my 1963 (panda dial version) i would happily pay for it to be serviced its fantastic and i cant recommend it enough! Dont let the fact that its chinese put you off!
The Lunar Pilot was obvious and i own some Dan Henrys but the others were really interesting. Thanks for the great video!
I have an Orient Chrono with Tachy and also a Compass bezel it looks a million Buck$, is 100 mtr water resist and was only $200 incl shipping from Singapore, I get comments all the time It is one of the best quality made watches I've ever owned and my collection is now a Dozen but the Orient gets most of the wrist time, next I'm getting an Orient Diver, Watches 88 is an online store and they are my Favorite shopping place online
GO!!!!
I bought the mission to the moon and put it inside the case of a Pagani Design moon watch. It looks amazing and it's steel case. But for an extra 100 bucks you have a moonswatch that doesn't suck.
Maybe quality is not good but i like the looksbut doesn't deserve the resale price
Great video and completely agree with all the conclusions and recommendations.. but I still got a moonswatch!
Hahaha me too! 😂😆
#metoomoonswatch
I really liked the Accurist as well as the Seiko and Timex. I would recommend also Seiko Daytona alternative it is almost similar to Rolex.
The mok swatch is a $25 piece of junk. Idiots today are too afraid to call out bad quality when they see it.
interested in Seiko but you lost me at Timex Q
I feel like people are missing the point of the moonswatch - it's a Swatch not and omega. It isn't intended to be the best watch one can buy for £200 but a commemoration of an iconic well loved timepiece. If you dislike the moonswatch you are probably just thinking of it as something it's not.
That's all absolutely fine. But there's not a planet in the universe where they should be charging $250 for it.
@@TopTierTickerthey charge what they want, it’s their business. You don’t like it, move on. They sold 1.5 million. They’re right and you’re wrong lol
I just bought reps of the collection for the same price as 1 gen. I know they are cheap crap either way but I like the colorways and I don’t plan on wearing them.
you can buy a whole movement from seagull when parts are broken. they are quite cheap to get
Yes you can, parts aren't the expensive part. The watchmaker is... Probably around $300 or so. Not worth it in my opinion.
i prefer moonswatch to any of those other watches, it has omega written on it
The 1963 Seagull is the perfect watch for someone who wants to own and learn to repair and rebuild watches.
Subscribed. I dig this content. Thanks.
Great deal.
Just found the one with blue dial, but no chance to find currently one with the silver dial 😢
That Seiko white chronograph is beautiful. Yeah, I got the MoonSwatch and it was meh..
the swatch moonwatch is not desgin for watch enthusiast mate, a standard swatch chrono is cheaper, they also make Stainless Steel version too, people who buying the watch will be who can't afford the omega moonwatch but do like the look of the watch. i am an enthusiast, and still bough the watch because of the look, colour to match cloth and style, most people who selling the watch think getting a profit are idiot as swatch already stated this is not a limited run, so the hype was created but those watch enthusiast thinking it can make some money out of it. i personally waiting until swatch restocked then purchase. as for the crystal is hesalite, also use on the original speedmaster, i see no issue with it. you do have a good recommendation of watches whioch is better then the moonwatch, but for youth this day, they probably prefer the moonwatch for it fashion
One of few videos that actually shows good looking watches. I mean we probably have similar taste in watches.
That's good to hear! Seems like most of the comments usually say that my picks are horrible looking 😂 I'm glad I have a friend!
Swatch, I got one but not worth $270. Paying $150 more for omega name and both watches owned by Swatch group.
Seiko SSC911 is my choice and what is on my wrist
Thanks! I enjoyed you video and i will get a the Seiko, do you have an opinion on Citizen Eco Drive?
Very welcome. They're great! Fantastic longevity without needing a service
@@TopTierTicker thanks so much for you reply! Citizen are easier to get than Seiko in my country, any chronograph you think may enter in this category? Otherwise I can the Seiko you mentioned in ebay... Thanks for your time!
you dont oftenly come accross such good selection of watches.
Phylida’s Speedmaster homage. With the ST19 is the ultimate moonswatch alternative IMHO.
The best chrono that you can throw against a brick wall and survive is an old school G-shock 💪 with its tough resin outer shell and a tough screw down steel case that is rated for 200m water resistance. Way better than any plastic junk 😂
Well done. What a great vid on comparisons. If you really want a moonswatch watch this.
Service your damn watch! You can go 25000 miles between oil changes and your car will still run but damage is done!
All of the high end Swiss watches are clearly overpriced.
How about looking at the WT Author range.
Some cracking designs and value.
I have the Bulova Moon Watch amongst many others.
To me Seiko.Prospex X Solar are fantastic value, and look good too.
It's sad that some people are so desperate for status that they will buy this junk because it says Omega on it.
I 100% agree.
I just thought it was attractive
You could say that for most things
I think its more age dependent im 19 and a student and don't want to wear a more expensive watch outside plus it says omega 😂😂
Wrong. I just got 4 and they just look cool
Top tier quality! You deserve more subs!
Much appreciated! They'll come in due time. 😊 It's all about keeping the ball rolling and I'm sure they'll come
You know what? Following your video I litterally forgot about stupid moonswatch and bought the Seiko SSB401p. Thank you.
Or just a homage moonwatch from Pagani Design for 90-100$ that has 100m WR, sapphire glass and a seiko movement inside and looks 1:1 .
I’ve got one of those, it’s an absolute stunner. It’s quartz (so what) and it’s easy to wear and I don’t have to worry about it in a marine lifestyle.
@@PhilbyFavourites i have the red (version 5) with the sapphire bezel, absolute banger for the money.
im not jumping on the hate train
i see how this is good for popularity
but i love the swatch omega watches
they are colorful plastic variations of the omega speedmaster
thats all they are supposed to be
no one buys them to get a rolex level watch
they are fun
they are colorful
and they are swatch
and swatch makes fantastic watches
The timex q chronograph looks amazing
Absolutely love this video. Subscribed !
the swatch Irony Chronograph watches are better that all of those
The Dan Henry 1972 is the best of his lineup
As you mentioned, the OMEGA brand logo is counted, veery much
Cheap ETA is high quality.
Why people buy MoonSwatch:
1. It looks like the Moonwatch.
2. It has Omega stamp on it.
None of the watches you have mentioned in the video qualify with above reason 😂
People buy MoonSwatch either just for fun, or add to their collection.
If people want to buy real watch, they won't buy MoonSwatch 😂
Honestly, I just like the Pluto moonswatch look and there was nothing here with a similar look. If I wanted a panda chronograph, I would agree with these choices.
Different colors goes with the way you dress!👍🏼
I have lunar pilot 43mm great watch for the price with the lunar history.
The Seagull 1963 looks nice in pictures, but it really does not sit nice on the wrist. It sits really high. I think I've worn mine 3 times in over 2 years.
The retro racer completely blew my mind. And just my luck, it's out of stock
I made a follow up video to this and recommend the gshock casioak as an ultimate replacement but that timex is a great shout too
