@@JusttheWatch sweet! give us the jdm goodness, dave! also i think (i'm not 100% sure) there are few interesting citizen/seiko watches that have limited release in Singapore and other nearby asian countries, like citizen nj0150. maybe sometimes you could dabble into that market as well.
Excellent show. Thank You. I was in Japan in 1966 and bought a Seiko that was paper thin and one that was regular thin copies of a nice French Rectangular watch. The thin one kept bending and Seiko got tired of fixing it, so I had to throw it away. The thicker one I gave to my Father and after he passes away in 1988, I started wearing it myself. Still runs great after maybe 12 batteries and no other maintenance. You CANNOT BEAT A SEIKO!.
Casio Lineage are really great! An analog functional mechanism combined with a laconic, well-designed design and a compact case. Sufficiently high-quality finish of the case, cast bracelet, sapphire crystal and all this for less than $200. Bravo Casio! Thank you for your review, you helped me a lot with choosing a watch.
If Citizen ever released that world-timer/GMT in the US they would clean-up. That is such a cool watch. The only reason I can think of for not releasing it here is that someone in management there doesn’t like money. Seriously, the bezel is great, the dial looks great, and the 24hr scale on the deep rehout is so cool.
It used to be available from Amazon US, as I picked mine up there in 2021. One of my favorite watches. Just incredibly functional and well-built for the price. It really is a shame that more people can't access it.
That Promaster Land GMT certainly isn't a Japan only watch. I own one and bought in in a AD in Europe a few months ago. Plenty available online as well.
Only last week I got caught up with the hype around the MoonSwatch and if they were more accessible I'd gone out and purchase one. I'd promised myself not to scratch the itch of watch collecting. The problem was the said MoonSwatch had bought me out into a rash. Luckily, as week unfolded and more details about the watch came out. Then there was the dye leakage problem, also £207 for a plastic watch didn't seem a good idea. Then I watched this video about JDM watches (already own one). It made me have a look at what was on offer. I have now ordered a Citizen, Independent KL8-643-54, which is solar powered, atomic clock regulated, perpetual calendar and 100m water resistant. So thank you very much for helping me not making a terrible mistake and saving me £50. Well that's how I explained the purchase to the wife 😂
Yeah sorry but the moonswatch is still cooler in my opinion. Its an already iconic watch made more iconic by the collaboration which has never been done in the watch industry.
Thanks Dave! I ordered the casio lineage 2 months back from Discovery Japan Mall. The watch arrived pretty quickly to India without any problems. This is my endgame watch. It has EVERY complication I was looking for, without being digital. I LOVE THIS THING!!!
First of all, I am mostly interested mechanical only watches, but after seeing these videos about Casio Lineage m700. A full analogy display watch without crown, I just knew I had to get it. And I got it, it is currently one of my favourite watch with all quirkiness. So much fun :D
I like Citizen getting some love. I had been a Citizen geek for most of my life! (Then I discovered mechanical watches, and well....) As for pilot watches: Might not fit into your plan, but I just bought a BYOP (Be Your Own Pilot) watch that I really love. Under $210 for a NH35 based watch from a micro-brand maker in Michigan. Worth a look....even if it doesn't fit into your "best of" video.
Great video! Subbed. I can't believe more YT watch reviewers aren't doing more of this kind of thing. I have no hesitation buying direct from Japan (or from China for that matter). I know what I can get away with based on my wrist size and style preferences. We truly live in the era of Peak Watch. Keep up the good work, Dave.
That Seiko SARV001 is beautiful! I want this watch, but preferred the older version which had a bit different top dial markings and the rotor was gold/brass in color versus silver now.
I bought the Orient, the 21 jewel grey version, some time ago and I find it to be a VERY nice daily wear watch and I use the inner rotating bezel all the time for timing various things. You wont see it on another wrist outside of Japan, I think. The accuracy is good but it picks up a minute when the main spring winds down. BEWARE, they made 2 versions of this watch....a 21 jewel version and a 22 jewel version. the 21 jewel version has a pusher at the 2:00 for changing the 'day' and does NOT hack or manual wind by the crown. The 22 jewel version lacks the 'day' pusher but has the better, hacking/hand wind ability movement. I enjoy wearing mine very much, and may pick up the one shown in this video at some point as that one has an interesting presence I think.
Two years later and the Citizen GMT now goes for at least $500 USD. 😔 But I'm gonna order that Casio sometime. That thing is awesome, and I love a good Casio.
When I saw the Casio Lineage I knew I had to get it. I was certainly not disappointed when it arrived. And using Japan Discovery Mall was a very pleasant surprise. Having all the instructions in Japanese added to the experience of having shopped in a Japanese Mall (without the jet lag obviously). Thank you.
I’ve been thorough all the “cheap” Fliegers. This includes Laco and Dekla. The only one I kept is an Escapement Time 40mm. The downside is the PT5000 but they nailed everything else. Most cheap Fliegers get the proportions of the hands and dial wrong. And the Laco uses a Miyota movement w/ a known stuttering seconds hand problem.
I just got back from Japan and picked up two of those SARB001 from Bic Camera for under £200 new for the pair. The white and black dial. They also had a two tone one that now I'm home, I regret not buying. They also do open heart versions.
I also have the Citizen CA0450-57A. Spanking good watch. Picked mine up second hand with no visible wear off Yahoo Japan Auctions for around $150usd. Couldn't be happier at that price. Only real complaint is the date wheel is difficult to see since it is so far below the dial.
Great video Dave. My vote for best aviation inspired watch would be the Certina DS multi-8 available from Joma for under $250. Unbelievable value and specs if a bit large with Breitling vibes
Only pilots watch I can recommend, because I have one, is the Casio MTP 4500. I found mine on clearance at my local Walmart for 25 bucks, originally for 75.
I have a version of the last watch on your list. I got my Citizen Worldtimer around a decade ago (it has a yellow skeletonized GMT hand) and it's still going strong. I got it cheap off ebay as it was sized to a 16.5 cm wrist, which fit me perfectly. The lume is just okay, and can last through the night. That silver dial Citizen chrono is tempting.
Hello Dave. Great video and information on those watches. If I had to choose my favorites those will have to be the Citizen Promaster Eco Drive Land Series GMT, followed by the CASIO Watch Lineage Radio Solar. Regarding my picks for best pilot watches I give you the following suggestions. I hope you don’t mind the large selection. Seagull 1963 Chronograph (Sapphire Crystal model). Seiko Fightmaster SEIKO Flight Chronograph Steel Black Dial Men's Watch SNA411, Seiko SNK809 (widely considered a field watch but in my opinion as a vet and a pilot I think it looks more like a hybrid between both a field and a pilot’s watch), Seiko Men's SNN241 Stainless Steel Watch with Brown Leather Band. Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Nighthawk Quartz Men’s Watch, Stainless Steel, Pilot watch, Silver-Tone (Model: BJ7000-52E). Casio Men's EDIFICE Stainless Steel Flight Computer Chronograph Watch EF527D-1AV. AVI-8 Men's AV-4011 Hawker Hurricane Analog Display Japanese Quartz Watch with Leather Band (I recommend you check out the full Hawker Hurricane collection from AVI-8). Orient Pilot RA-AC0H04Y10A, ORIENT Sport Black Dial Black Leather Men's Watch FUNG2003B0, Orient 21-Jewel Automatic Aviator Flight Watch with Woven Nylon Strap #ER2A008D, ORIENT Pilot Automatic Grey Dial Men's Watch RA-AC0H02N10B. Stuhrling Original Men’s Leather Watch - Aviation Watch, Quick-Set Day-Date, Leather Band with Steel Rivets, Men Watch Collection. Islander 39mm Automatic Pilot watch with Black Dial and Sapphire Crystal #ISL-113. Swatch SISTEM ARROW (YIS403). Aristo 3H80 42mm Quartz Pilot's Watch with Sandblasted Case. Laco Zurich 40mm Pilot Quartz Watch #861806. I hope I didn’t overkilled here Dave. Best regards.
I just stumbled on this channel and how glad I am I did!! To the point commenting not wasting time is what most of us like and "Just the Watch" does not disappoint. Thank you for the effort in doing the research that I certainly do not have the time doing myself. I could not hit 'SUBSCRIBE' fast enough...!
11.38. That rally strap on this Citizen looks just right, and that's how I'd wear it. Another thing, I think silver dials are really handsome, and the purple tone of the subdials adds a luxurious touch to the whole piece. Very nice.
Love your channel man. I was station up in Misawa for a few years back in 2012. I had the time of my life there. I met some really great locals that are my lifetime friends. I’d do anything to move back there! Beautiful country! Amazing people! America could learn a few things about customer service from them! Love the videos Man! Keep ‘em comming !!
I'd love more JDM style videos, you just don't know what you dont know. That was a great video, thanks, a really informative and a nice selection. That citizen chrono looks gorgeous!
Long Island Watch just did a collab with Marvin Hemel on a modern spin on a flieger for $269. Beautiful watch. Thanks for the content. Love to see the JDM.
Great video, thanks for sharing some easily overlooked watches! Now, for the next video…pilot watches…. I come at this not from a fashion/style perspective, but rather from the perspective of a working B777 pilot that wants a watch for their work. I fly international routes to 5 continents and more countries than I care to count. So what I need is an actual “tool” watch, a watch that meets that actual needs of a working pilot. First, what I don’t need: A built in circular slide rule (too small to be useful and all current jetliners do all these calculations anyway), don’t need a timer or stopwatch (see above). Don’t need multiple sub dials….interferes with legibilty. Don’t need 200m water resistance, 50m will be fine. I do need: Reliability, accuracy, legibility, multiple time zones. How do we get there? Analog 3 hand dial. Solar atomic synced quartz. And High contrast hands/dial/markers. Best examples of these? Most of the Casio Wave Ceptor and Lineage watches check all the boxes. For a good example of what I’m currently wearing for my work watch; Casio LCW-M100TSE-1AER. Always precisely accurate time, legible, easy switch to any time zone I can think of. Really crushes the functionality of most so-called pilot watches currently being sold to non-pilots. A genuine pilot tool watch for the 21st century, our generation’s replacement for the GMT Master. I have other pilot styled watches for casual wear (Seiko Flightmaster, a sentimental favourite from the 1990s, and a Seagull 1963 for the historical interest), but when it’s time to go to work the Casio comes along. All the best Rick
I have the Citizen titanium, solar, perpetual chronograph [ BL5250] and is bar none, the best bang for the buck in watches. Its stunning, has everything plus Eco Drive...nothing else is close
Great video Dave. Thank you, and thank you to everyone who recommended these pieces, great work. After watching this I picked up on the the Citizen Pandas. Love the silver dial and like you said that beveled crystal wow. I've always been a Citizen fan (I have 4 Promasters now) and can't wait until I get this one. Thanks again for all you do, keep up the great work with the channel and your missionary work.
That Casio Lineage looks awesome! The countdown timer implemented like that is not one I've seen before and is pretty special. The Citizen is my favourite looking watch here though. For the Pilot's watch entries I would check out another Citizen offering in the form of the Citizen NJ0140 series. These are fantastic examples of pilot's watches and can be found for well under $350.
Thank you so much for your reviews. I am just starting with this hobby and I need some help with this hobby. I am probably going to top off at 7 or 8 watches. I just recently received an Oceanus t3000 1ajf. Beautiful but then I viewed lineage lines at a fraction of the price and I had to ask myself why should I pay these high prices? I know that they have these high end materials and so on, but how do we even know this since its happening behind the curtains? I understand fine things. High end audio and video. An upscale car. You can sink your teeth into those things. Where as this, seems to be aestetics. Once a watch looks beautiful on the outside, what would be the need or satisfaction on paying thousands for some super fancy mechanism that you will never see? The T3000 felt so light, that it felt like a toy paper watch. Unless I get some new insight, I am sorry I ordered this. On the way are 2 more Oceanus models from Japan, both in the 400s price. With some of the watches that you have shown here, why did I do this? That white seiko is beautiful at that price and so is the lineage. Just thought I would get my rant out.
JDMs definitely seem to be minimalistic and muted, more on the dressy side. I do like the Seiko a lot - the others I didn't really care for. Good video.
OMG that Casio lineage. I am never going to buy one! It will immediately make me hate my other watches. Love wearing that Citizen GMT. I did not like that crystal bezel drop as well, so I stuck a watch glass protector.
Could you do another update on JDM watches for tourist visiting Japan? I’ll be visiting Japan next spring and looking to pick up a watch or two. Maybe your top picks under $500, $1000, and best splurge?
I've always wanted a luxury watch but couldn't justify the price. That's why I turned to gussl, and I'm so glad I did. Their replica watches look and feel just like the real thing, but at a fraction of the cost.
Thank you for the video! My favorite was the Citizen Promaster LAND, an amazing GMT watch for the price. As far as pilot's watches, I have owned several but fly almost exclusively with the Citizen Skyhawk C650 series in Titanium. I am a professional pilot and the C650 has been my daily flyer for over 21 years, it does everything, GMT, E6B & multi time zone. I had it refurbished by Citizen after 18 years of use so its now on its second life. Not a fan of the new Skyhawk Promaster AT and returned the one I purchased. For $350 I would recommend the Citizen C650 series (out of production but you can still find "new" on ebay for around $350, the Seiko Aviator, or the non AT Citizen Promaster Skyhawk (E6B but no GMT or multi time zone). For a GMT automatic, I have a Pagani 1662 Pepsi that has functioned amazingly well for a $100 automatic "homage".
great content specially for budget conscious guys such as me. ill be visiting japan next year. where do you suggest i go to for budget jdm casio/citizen/seiko?
Really like your channel man. Just subscribed. I own expensive watches but the prices isnt the thing for me, never was and never will be. Hate the elitists. Just appreciate the watches and buy what you like, build a relationshio with them, those watches that speak to you for any reason except impressing other people. Keep up the good work!
JDM (Japan Domestic Models) look similar to the ones that are sold in USA. I liked how nicely they are put together and finished. Japan has very good industrialists.
i really like casio for everything from chronographs to the mdv-106 duro they all work perfect and they beat every other watch i own from citizen to timex when it comes to lume
@@JusttheWatch Thanks! Btw, in a comment I said I would report to you on the Watch Gecko Zulu Diver padded sailcloth strap. It isn't really sailcloth, it's made of PVC. It's beautiful, edges are perfect, no loose strings because there are no strings. 100% waterproof. But it is taking a while to break in. Hoping it gets more comfortable.
For the Pilot's watch video, look for the Bulova A-15 model. I love inner rotating bezels, and to have 2 of them, that is very useful in my opinion. You can use them to time up to 12 hrs tiem, and for tracking other timezones. And on the matter of this video... I'm biased, because I looked all over for the Orient KIng Master until I could get it sent to my home country. I had the original model from around de 1960's, and this reissue or homage is faithful to the measurements and design. The Orient may not be for everyone, but I think it's a very beautiful and unique design. Best regards!
Where can I find the Orient Kong Master Diver for sale? I’ve scanned everywhere! I absolutely love it! An instant must-have with that quirky “inner-bezel”
Great video! I've been interested in the citizen panda chronograph and I'm saving up to purchase one. Quick question, what was the orange and black strap you had on it? It looks really nice!

Yes. And I'm getting tired of watch reviews you need to earn 6 figures to afford the watch.

I'd vote for the Citizen GMT. Super sweet and functional.
I've got a SEIKO PREMIER AUTOMATIC SPB001 6R20 which I've purchased back in 2009. Still the nicest looking watch I've had to date.
Casio with the sapphire crystal takes the cake. Unless you really need the GMT of the citizen, Casio Lineage is hands down the winner.

All the best
Rick
My personal JDM selection including higher price tag : Seiko SARX055, SARW061, Casion G-Schock DW-5600THB-7JF and DW-5600TGA-9JF. Love them.
The Citizen Ecodrive solar tech is really clever and perhaps the ultimate in a set and forget watch. Great vid.
The Lineage line are the most underrated watches. Outside hollow end-links on most of them, these are just the best at anything.
My favorite here is the Citizen GMT.
Thank you! Do you have a list like this but for women's watches????
Great video. I own the JDM Orientstar wz0291el. The stuff in Japan are truly on another level.
JDMs definitely seem to be minimalistic and muted, more on the dressy side. I do like the Seiko a lot - the others I didn't really care for. Good video.
Hi Dave my affordable aviation watch is the Citizen NJ0100 which might be more of a field watch but is around $150-200 on ebay.
Wow that Citizen chronograph is OUTSTANDING
OMG that Casio lineage. I am never going to buy one! It will immediately make me hate my other watches.
Love wearing that Citizen GMT. I did not like that crystal bezel drop as well, so I stuck a watch glass protector.
For your next topic on affordable Aviation watches, I think it's tough to beat the Seiko Flightmaster SNA411.
I love citizen eco drive watches , just plain solid value , and beauty ... what more do you want ..
Could you do another update on JDM watches for tourist visiting Japan? I’ll be visiting Japan next spring and looking to pick up a watch or two. Maybe your top picks under $500, $1000, and best splurge?
My favorite pilots watch is my bulova a15, a second runner up is my citizen blue angles. Both look good on my 7" wrist. The bulova is on a bund strap.
I've always wanted a luxury watch but couldn't justify the price. That's why I turned to gussl, and I'm so glad I did. Their replica watches look and feel just like the real thing, but at a fraction of the cost.
I loved the Citizen most amongst all.
My first and only so far is the Citizen Jounetsu Attesa CB3016-51Z. Love the skyline themed dial.
For a GMT automatic, I have a Pagani 1662 Pepsi that has functioned amazingly well for a $100 automatic "homage".
the orient is a beauty!!
great content specially for budget conscious guys such as me. ill be visiting japan next year. where do you suggest i go to for budget jdm casio/citizen/seiko?
Really like your channel man. Just subscribed. I own expensive watches but the prices isnt the thing for me, never was and never will be. Hate the elitists. Just appreciate the watches and buy what you like, build a relationshio with them, those watches that speak to you for any reason except impressing other people. Keep up the good work!
Not sure if you've already covered/reviewed the Seiko SBTR-027. It's a very beautiful watch.
JDM (Japan Domestic Models) look similar to the ones that are sold in USA. I liked how nicely they are put together and finished. Japan has very good industrialists.
Ooooo, The Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph. That's a stunner, thanks Dave
I love that Seiko SAR V001! Great video.
Fabulous round up from a different perspective. Thank you!
The citizen on that black rally strap looked amazing, It was my favorite.
i really like casio for everything from chronographs to the mdv-106 duro they all work perfect and they beat every other watch i own from citizen to timex when it comes to lume
Great work. Casio and Citizen Chrono pure gold nuggets
HI Dave, where did you get the black rally strap you put on the Citizen. Thanks, Frank M.
The last one my favorite. Very cool.
Where did you get the black rally strap with the orange stitching? Really goes well on the Citizen.
I picked it up from a Watch Gecko sale awhile back.
Seiko SNA411 is a good pilot watch. The Citizen Nighthawk is also a good pick.
Thank you for the content. Also thanks for doing Lume for all watches. It really bothers me when people don’t. Thanks!
Love the orient flight watches like the RA-AC0H. Black/blue/grey face with a leather strap is the way to go imo.
That GMT caught my eye. Thanks!
SO LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
Excellent video. The last Citizen, the GMT, is not available only in Japan. I Live in Spain and you can buy this Citizen here without problems.
Love this concept for a video. Great stuff🖤
So with chronographs the seconds hand is part of the complication and the small sundial at 6 o clock handles seconds?
Hello, can you get hold of one of those Casio watches? I would like one, I had my heart set on a citizen but that Casio is nice.
Great video, Dave! That SARV is really tempting. Love the JDM focus.
I loved the CITIZEN examples
