    You need to check the lug nut seat shape for your wheels. Not all wheels are compatible with stock GM lug nuts. Spherical seat vs conical seat etc.

      This is a good suggestion. Had issues with someone wanting to put the wrong ones on my stock Ford rims. Another person caught it before it happened

      Hey Deeds, I will. I waited 2 days for the lug nuts to come in before I could get the wheels put on. I took the local tire shop at their word they ordered the correct lugs but I will definitely check them out. Thank you!

      Yea, I have never backed away from a tri axle but I had a eerie feeling about this one before I even hooked to it. I wouldn't want to pull that one again with a semi...it was not only heavy but it did a number on my electrical system too.

    I would get the old wheel studs you saved and match it up with a new stud “thread on thread “ to see if the old ones have stretched any. In my opinion they probably did stretch over 500k miles worth of tire rotating and 100k lug re-torques😂. Something I’ve never actually thought about till you shared this! I love and appreciate your content btw.

    Thats why when I get new tires never drive the truck out of the
    tires shop parking lot without lift the truck up fron and rear and do the torque by my self , they all do the same with the impacts guns
    They may think Im stupit but I dont trust them
    Only one time I drove away coz the kids was working on my truck he did let me in to the bay so I was with him the whole time
    Fits time I saw a tire shop using a torque wrench

    It’s not that the lug nuts aren’t tight. The problem is that the studs are being fatigued. I think it’s those wheels and maybe the surface where the bevel of the nut seats is not correct.
    Do you know what the load is on your rear axle ? Also- is there a difference in the wheel piloting - hub centric vs lug centric?

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Год назад

      Hey Chuck, I am thinking with all the rotations I've done plus the over tightening when I had the tires put on not long ago I am pretty sure you're right about the studs being fatigued. when I bought the wheels I took them to my local tire shop I use and they had to order the lugs for the wheels. They were definitely different from the stock lugs. I also asked them to check the diameter of the wheel and axle flange to make sure they would mate correctly since I tow a lot. going off what they told me everything looked good. I didn't get an axle weight with this trailer on. When i bought my old freightliner it was stud piloted and i changed it over to hub piloted. I like the idea of hub piloted better.

  • @shaunrcorley
    @shaunrcorley Год назад

    Not only did they possibly stretch the studs, there is a possibility that they messed the lug hole bevel up on the rim itself. If that happened, lug nuts won't stay tight either with normal torque.

    How are you able to pull that with a 2500 hd? The reason I ask is because I've been advised not to pull my 5th wheel which has a gvwr of 13,500, not sure what the uvw is, but could I pull this with my 2500 hd ltz duramax 2015?

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Год назад +1

      In all honesty this trailer should've been pulled with a semi. it was heavier than advertised when I accepted the job. when I was full of fuel it did put me over weight which made it aggravating because I was in a head wind the majority of the trip and was only getting 6-7 mpg. If you watch my videos regularly you see I have pulled a lot of the tri axle trailers and the truck handles them really well for a 2500 but keep in mind they're always empty...still heavy but not like a loaded trailer. I have been told by a ton of people I couldn't pull a fifth wheel with my 2500 but 3.5 years and 500k miles it seemed to do a fine job. if I had a 13.5 gvwr fifth wheel I would load it down and be on my way with my 2500 (with air bags of course) but that's just me. I have a friend doing the same job with a 2015 2500HD and he has over 600k miles.

People eat that stuff up (me included)! All that stuff like cam wear, bearing wear, carbon buildup, cylinder walls, is interesting. Take care.

    We are looking to buy our first RV. Good seeing the issues that can happen. I was a little surprised to see you pulling with a SRW truck. My wife doesn’t like the dully trucks but I do 😏. What was your reasons to pull with a SWR and a Chevy over a Ford or Ram? Just curious from a professionals point of view.

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Год назад +1

      Hey Captain Awesome, I bought this truck for another purpose and when that fell through I started hauling campers. Commercially the 3/4 ton has benefitted me because its slightly lighter than a dually making it easier for me to stay under the 26k lbs. I am plated for. If I was starting over looking for a truck I might go with a dually and stick to the lighter campers but once you buy a plate for over 26k commercially I would have to run a eld and have ifta. After 3.5 years and 500k miles on the truck I would buy the exact same truck over again. It has pulled anything I have hooked to and has given minimal issues. keep in mind the trailers I pull are brand new and empty. once you fill the tanks and put your belongings in I would think it would be significantly heavier. the long bed should give a better ride and a dually should be more stable but I would definitely recommend air bags or timbrens on either truck. I hope this helps

      @@CFarmerThank you for that feed back, I missed it but was watching the video again 😂 and found it. I have an update on what we did, if you’re interested.
      About 8 months ago we ordered a Brinkley Z3610. It’s a 42’ RV and real close to 18k pounds loaded out. The RV came about 3 weeks after we ordered it. I ordered a 2024 Ford F350 SRW 6.7HO Platnium Tremor and that was 6 months out.
      So we would have an RV but no way to tow it. I picked up a 2007 RAM 2500 5.9 Cummins with 117K miles it was lifted 6” on 37” tires, Sun Coast stage 2 Billet transmission with Billet torque converter. I wanted something that I could resell quickly when the Ford was about to be delivered. It towed that RV very well but when I was starting from a stop on a steep hill it didn’t like it. If I were to keep it I would have changed the rear gear or gone back to 35” tires max.
      We have been on a couple trips with the Ford and the RV the longest was to Ruidoso, New Mexico for snow skiing over spring break. I live in the Dallas, TX area, the Ford did great at 500hp and 1200torque it pulls with ease. The MPGs are 8.9 at 70-75 mph.
      On the Facebook forums the “tow police” love to talk about the weight and what you should have to pull it. I love seeing you with 500k miles pulling these RV’s all over the country. Your rear axle is the one thing that I would think is the week point but obviously I am wrong about that. I am appreciate your reply and enjoy the videos! It’s great to see someone in something more than a RAM 😎.
      It’s also good to see a fully emissions compliant truck lasting so long. I am concerned that the EGR will ruin the engine over time. I would love to delete this truck but not with how they are cracking down and the potential of loosing my warranty.

      I asked the dealer when I first bought the truck and they said 140ftlbs. when I looked up the torque spec it said 140 ftlbs but I always thought that was a little much. I would torque them to 140 ftlbs then check them after 100 miles or so at 125lbs. Never had a loose one until after I had this set of tires put on and had to break studs to get them off at first rotation.
