  • We've been planning this Alaska trip for over a year and we're doing it. Enough talk, let's walk! Well...we'll drive but you get the picture.
Taking our Class C to Alaska so we can get to some remote areas and drive on roads less traveled. We've taken our Big Rig before but this time will be different. We're going to Denali and Tek campground but also the Dalton highway and so much more.
We've actually started our trip out west and up to Alaska. We'll drive 2450 miles to Washington over 7 days with stops at Cracker Barrel, Walmart and some neat Harvest Hosts. A motorhome will be a different travel experience for us and we're excited to test our "systems" on Curiosity.
Our stops will be in Mount Vernon (IL), Cameron (MO), Gothenburg (NE), Casper (WY), GreyCliff (MT), Missoula (MT) and Ritzville (WA) before we stop for 3 nights at the Thousand Trails Resort in Leavenworth (WA). The stop in Gothenburg is at a Harvest Host farm and is one of only two cities in the world named Gothenburg. The other is in Sweden....our stop in Nebraska will be nice but not as glamorous as Sweden!
Daily fuel stops will be a different sort of travel duty for us but we enjoy Maveriks Adventure Stop because the rest rooms are nice, the fuel pumps are easy access and they have free dump for RV's. That's cool!
It will be fun and an adventure in a Class C plus, bigger than a vanlifer (Van Life) but smaller than a truck Super Class C. We'll scout out places for future visits to Alaska (there will be 4 of them).

    RV Camping
We like to Switch it Up between resorts and campgrounds.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in discovery of What's Next.
    I get my music from:
    Epidemicsound.com
    Tracks:
    Campfire Blues by Erik Fenholm
    Globe Trekking by Philip Ayers
Amazon Shop (no extra charge to you)
A convenient way to see (or buy) the items you see in the video's which may help in your adventure.
    www.amazon.com...
We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
    Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
    Vehicles:
    2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
    2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
    2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
    2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
    Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
    30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.

Ok As a retired semi Driver and being impressed by your "Big Truck, Big Travels" experiences, I have decided to follow your adventures especially the Alaska 2023 playlist since it appears you travelled right by us in the Edmonton area. Since our old Class C "Walter" probably would never survive the Alaska trip, following your trip is the next best thing. Skipped your first ones and joining you on the start of your trip. Hey Walter makes lots of noise too.

You guys aren't missing anything here in Greenville, SC . We need Noah's Arc for all the rain we've had. Thanks again for sharing. Thank you for sharing the views of the scenic mountains and the flat lands for farming. It's still beautiful to me. When I lived in Alaska for a year for my country. (LOL) I looked at the BROOKS RANGE on a clear day. Sometimes, we could see the very top of Mt. McKinley, which was 192 miles away. This was 1979-80 top of the Cold War. There was only 26 military there at a TOP CAMP on the Air Forces highest radar site in Alaska. It was a split camp. Bottom. Camp and Top Camp. Not a single tree that you could find a girl to hide behind. At top camp. That's where Operations was located. The support was at Bottom Camp that's where they flew our food and supply in. During the summer months they flew in our fuel 24 hours aday. Over a million gallons by an L88 aircraft. Sorry that I wrote a book.

That is correct. Alabama is where we started though we spent the winter in Florida cruising around. Thanks for the comment. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😊

Are you planning to go up the Alaska Hwy through Alberta or will you go through BC and take a ferry up the coast? I would think the highway would be easier and cheaper. It warmed up a lot here today in Northern Alberta and it is supposed to keep getting warmer for the next week.

We enjoy the drive, Joseph, so we'll be staying off the water for awhile. Lol. Going up through BC to Dawson Creek via Prince George. Last time we went through Alberta so we wanted to see another part of Canada this time. Thanks for the comments. 😃

Ok, David, you've got to keep up! Lol. We bought this last year at the Tampa RV show to take to Alaska. We want to take some routes that the big rig may not handle as well as a 4WD Class C. Thanks for the comment. 😃

Did you bump up the battery levels? I know you Said no solar which in Alaska could help this time if year with the long days of sun but how will you boondock aeecyiu going to need to run the generator a lot ?

    • @bigtruckbigtravels
      @bigtruckbigtravels  Год назад

Solar in Alaska doesn't help as much as you think, Andrew. Lots of daylight hours but the angle of the sun is not in your favor. We added battery capacity and a few other mods which will help in our boondocking but in some cases we will have to run the genset.

Farming the land and farming the wind! In Europe, it is very important to have all that wind power, so they can tell Russia to Kiss off, we don't need your gas! In America, we are saving $38 in fuel costs for each MW of wind power generated. In California that is about 30,000 MW of wind power each day! Or X $38 = $1,140,000 per day in fuel costs! Solar power is saving California's 70,000 MW per day of fuel costs, or $2,660,000 per day! Solar and wind farming is very profitable!
