  • TLC's Sister Wives has returned for it's 18th season and the hypocrisy, inconsistencies, and out right lights are being exposed.
Throughout the seasons Kody has done some pretty vile things with regard to how he treats his children. We were given yet another example of poor parenting with this week's revelation that Kody refused to speak with his daughter Savannah because he was having a disagreement with her mother and brothers.
In previous episodes Kody incessantly talks about accountability. However, he has failed to take any responsibility for the failures in any of his relationships. Missed opportunities, blunders, to outright abandonment Kody is proving the point that having a lot of children does not mean you are good with children.
    Let's have the conversation.

Kody is holding Janelle responsible for HIS actions. And another thing, Kody is in denial about the fact that Robyn is unlikeable - she came bouncing into the family as Kody’s over confident Trophy wife who replaced their MOTHER’s who were discouraged from even voicing their opinion about the situation because every time they tried to - Robyn would turn on her dry waterworks. They knew damn WELL Robyn was talking smack behind their BACKS to the father of their children. So even though they would once in a while cautiously voice their objections they knew damn well and good they better keep themselves in CHECK while Robyn went UNCHECKED. And Kody wonders WHY the children don’t like his Mistress aka “Trophy”Wife? Really? Get REAL KODY. Your kids DON’T like Robyn! Get over it!

They don’t just not like Robyn because they saw her and her children being favorited by their Dad and that hurt their moms…it’s also because Robyn wasn’t nice to THEM. Their Dad was at her house with her or in the office/garage. She had signs up at her house that made them feel unwelcome. Signs on the fridge not to eat her food, hyper reactions to normal sibling behaviors, etc. She made them unwelcome in that house long ago.

Remember in S17 when he couldn’t be bothered to call Christine’s kids a mile away when she was in UT watching the birth of her first Bio-grandchild. Robyn also enjoyed the benefits of the ready made family. She got to enjoy the parties and fun that Christen put together. Christine was the lifeblood of the family. She provided the opportunities for the good memories to be made. Janelle provided the financial stability that made those fun times and good times possible. They also provided the CHILDREN, who without those beautiful children the family would not exist. Robyn and Kody took all of that for granted. They expected the wives who gave all that to just accept Kody’s crumbs and if that wasn’t enough, his harsh disapproval of their reaction to his neglect. For Kody and Robyn the family no longer exists. But the family lives on WITHOUT them.

She was the main spike in that tire. She was the one block holding up the jango? Then how can she be so awful? So vile? If you are that upset even if you never loved her or was attracted to her, then why do you need her to stay. What you said is SO true, James! My mom left the family when I was 12. My dad had a job where he had to work rotating shifts. He worked 3 weeks on day shift, 3 weeks afternoon shift, and 3 weeks night shift. That meant I only 3 weeks out of every 9 weeks. There were 6 weeks in a row I didn’t get to see my father AT ALL. He was also VERY ANGRY at my mom for the divorce and refused to give her custody of me, even though he only saw me 16/17 weeks out of the year.
It was very hard finding value in myself because both parents were mostly busy living their lives. I was luck though because my dad’s sister stepped in to help when needed and she, her husband and my grandmother made me feel loved and valued with every interaction we had.
I never got over not really being wanted by either parent. I never married and have no relationship with my only sibling. He’s on his 5th wife now, so we were both pretty messed up by our family situation.
I put myself through college with a little help from my mom. My family expected little of me and I proved them wrong. I was in the top 10% of my field, nationally. I focused on proving my worth professionally instead. Now I’m old and alone. I have some good friends that I’ve had for 40+ years, but they have real lives with family.
Had my father ever shown me love, had my mother not chosen whatever man was in her life instead of me, I might have fared better, but I’m not complaining. I had a good life for the most part. I proved my worth in two professions I am very proud of. That said, I needed my dad and my mom to care more than they did.

Now we see why Christine moved Truely out of Flagstaff so fast. She didn't want to give Kody one second more of rejecting Truely in favour of Robyn's kids. Pity Janelle didn't do the same for Savannah. That rejection was a tough watch. Janelle maybe should have moved near Maddie and spared Savannah the pain. I still think they should move as far away from Kody as they can.

Savannah didn't deserve to be totally ignored by her father, especially since she hasn't publicly said anything at all against Kody and even told Garrison and Gabe they weren't being fair to their Mom, whenever they were talking about where to spend Thanksgiving in 2020. There is absolutely nothing Kody can come up with to excuse his actions when it comes to her. He is going to end up old and alone one day, dreaming of the time he had children who loved him, children who want nothing to do with him.

James you hit the nail on the head (again:) The word "rejection". Kody isn't merely ignoring his kids or avoiding them, he is REJECTING them. I bet that's exactly how many (most) of his children feel. They are hurt and that won't go away because Kody lacks the ability to be anything but what he is. Rejectiont is a strongly negative feeling. It is very fortunate that the kids have other parents and even siblings who show them love, compassion, and belonging.

Lets face reality. All of these women have ultimately taught their children that they shouldn't expect to be valued by their partner. Christine has taken back her power and shown Truly that if someone doesn't value her she should leave, but all of the rest of Janelle's and Christine's kids saw decades of their mothers being devalued by this man. Some of them will demand more from a partner because they deep down know how wrong it was. Others will allow a partner to treat them like a doormat. Others will treat their partners with the same disrespect that their father did. Notice I didn't make this a gendered thing, because I don't think that we automatically adopt the traits of the parent that is the same gender that we are. We learn these patterns from both of our parents.

I think the part you point out about choosing to deal with a multitude of personalities, that’s the piece Kody never processed. I’m not a psychologist and couldn’t diagnose Kody even if I was, but he certainly seems to have some narcissistic traits, and in my personal experience with a narcissist for a dad, they aren’t able to conceive of you as your own person. They like you when you’re a little kid because you don’t think about them critically and you build their ego because they’re you’re hero just as your dad. But then if you grow up and DARE to have your own personality and ideas, that’s a major issue. That’s why I think Robyn and her kids purposefully infantilize themselves all of the time. Narcissists or people with those traits LOVE children and helpless people. They DON’T like people with their own ideas.

It’s Robyn’s responsibility to make sure ALL of Kody’s children feel welcome in their home and that every birthday and every holiday is special. Robyn knows how immature Kody is so she should have fixed the relationship with his wives and boys. She should make the phone calls if Kody won’t. She needs to plan the parties. She can’t sit in the corner and say “she would do ANYTHING to fix the relationships” while actually doing NOTHING!

I'd done well in school in spite of it all, but had no confidence. I was so emotionally troubled, but as a teenager I met a boy who valued me & actually listened & gave value to my opinions. Yeah, Kody definitely has no idea how to have a relationship with his kids without the assistance of the mothers. I don't even think this issue is specific to his situation. I think this happens a lot in regular co-parenting situations. After my son turned 18 and graduated from high school I stepped back from that role with him and his dad. He was forced to have to navigate a relationship with our son on his own. He got off to a horrible start, but he's slowly getting better. Kody just has to start. I really enjoy your takes, James!

You're right, there is absolutely no excuse for a father ignoring his child on a major holiday and continuing to pretend she doesn't exist for weeks after because he isn't willing to apologize for being a jerk. Savannah is fortunate to have two older brothers (Logan and Hunter) who have always stepped in to replace Kody and do the stuff a loving and supportive dad would do. I'm pretty sure that girl will do just fine without her noodle-head father in her life.

Wow James, maybe your best post ever, so many good points. I've heard it said that woman marry their dads when they choose a mate. I hope Savannah goes past that, it worries me. Savannah seems like a nice person, she's not in trouble with the law or anything. She's the child who's acting like the adult and Kody is the adult acting like a child. Kudos for bring up the students that studied the family years ago. I'd love to hear from those same students today. That was probably the best impartial look at the family and here's Robyn flying cover for Kody even back then. I think Kody is emotionally lazy. He has all these kids and doesn't want to do the HARD WORK to be a father to ALL of them. He didn't stop to think of the future when he was getting his pencil wet. Just forgetting about them is easy and lazy, he's a deadbeat.

    @AshleahShortcake 11 месяцев назад +3

100% agree with your points, Kody's kids didn't ask to exist, Kody made that happen, he owes them effort, not excuses, they don't owe him anything, therefore he should be the one to call them. Ahh, every freaking time I hear Robyn talking about the rest of the kids like they're whole ass adults yet talks about her kids like they're toddlers, it makes me sick. Only 2 of Christine's kids are older than Dayton and only 3 of Janelle's kids are older than Dayton, Dayton was a preteen when Robyn married Kody, Aurora is only 1.5-2 years younger than Dayton. Her kids are the same damn age, 7 out of 13 kids were younger than her oldest child! Then we see clips from season 4-5 where Robyn tells Maddie (16-17 at the time) that if she doesn't sign their family "mission statement" that she'll have to "move out" who tf does she think she is, that's not her choice, she doesn't contribute a damn dime to the family, she doesn't get to decide what Janelle does with her own daughter. MEANWHILE, she's got a 24 year old, a 22 year old and a 19 year old still at home. We saw her singling out Hunter and Garrison, trying to say they were "bad" for not getting excited that she was pregnant and trying to say they "bully" her kids. Rob's got a 7 year old on a pacifier so that she can feel like she has babies still and it probably makes her feel younger, she's got a grown adult daughter who acts like a 13 year old getting excited about getting her ears pieced, she's trapping a grown man son in an RV in her yard because she can't let her "baby" go, neither of her daughter's seem to be doing anything with their lives besides being locked away in the Mcmansion yet she treated the rest of the kids like she didn't want them around, like she'd kick them out if she could, her "babies" can't lose a single minute with the man she forced to adopt them. Smdh.

Notice when Robyn is making excuses for Kody (around the 20 minutes mark or so), she does not make ANY eye contact with the anthropology student whatsoever. She looks up to the ceiling, as if searching for an answer. Deceptive body language right there. She full well and good knows exactly what they're both doing. The right thing would have been to have just been honest with the other women from the moment they decided they wanted monogamy. Kody has always been a dirt bag to his kids, even before Robyn (at least on screen) so she's not at fault completely in that regard, however she could have used her position as "the loyal wife", to encourage Kody to fix his relationships with his children, instead of hoarding him for hers and only hers. Women have our limits, a good woman will tolerate ALOT of crap from a man if even a crumb of feelings are still there, but a good MOTHER? The second you become a problem or threat to those little cubs of hers, you're gonna see claws, and that's when she's DONE. That's why Janelle and Christine are done with his sorry butt, and why they left. I think more so Janelle than Christine, Christine had personal reasons too, not just for her kids sakes, which who could blame her? No one wants to be in a loveless marriage. I think Janelle was still willing to fight for it, because she believes her faith as she does (which I respect. Might not agree, but I respect her conviction regardless) but making her babies hurt was her red line and now she's just angry mama. Good for both of these ladies. I hope they have a beautiful life post Kotex and Sobbin

I’ve studied Physical Linguistics since the 1980’s and Robyn is very deceptive in approx 90% of her couch interviews. And Kody 70%. What a pair! These two have teamed up together from the beginning and they want the three OG’s to each stand alone to be taken down easily. To have to watch this season and see Kody treat Robyn’s kids so great, still breaking all his rules he forced on the other wives kids. How does he not see how that is furthering the divide?

This was good James, but I wish you had cooked him. I always love a weenie roast.
