I will say this the actor that played the character of the emperor was absolutely phenomenal in his role. The actor actually made you want to hate the character he portrayed. And the actress that plays Ruyi is absolutely phenomenal as well! Now yes the emperor definitely deserves to feel like crap fro what he did to the one woman that was true to him from the beginning. I'm glad Ruyi's final lesson to him will be a kick to the nuts so to speak. Hopefully everyone in the after life can forgive and live in peace.
I've read somewhere that the actor who played the emperor say that playing the emperor was hard and depressing because he himself started to hate the character for what he did to Ruyi.
That just to show how strong this story was, he played it well

This emperor was a most dishonest person when it came his step empress. He knew nothing about her and his behavior until it was to late. His own mother warned him that it would be too late if he kept going toward her the way he did. The time he asked for her to intervene with a member of the harem, just showed his selfishness. He didn't even bat an eye asking her and basically told her it was her job. That part made me so mad. Even at the end he never heard her tears. The other wife's knew though. Not him. Waited a long time to let her be free.

I loved this drama from start to finish. Every actor stole the show. But the look in Hailans eyes at the end broke my heart. Her and Ruyi’s love will always be my favorite😍. Sad it had to end this way but the emperor was jerk and didn’t appreciate the love he got smh.

She went through a lot! And he allowed it! I got hooked on this because of the love they both shared until the end where she just couldn't take it anymore and cut her hair! That love story was over
In the novel, Ruyi’s death is even more tragic : she doesn’t let herself die, she directly committs suicide by stabbing herself (I don’t remember well but think it was because she blamed herself for Ling Yunche’s death and wanted to pay for his life with her own life 😢). Moreover, her death happens before Wei Yanwan receives her retribution so she wasn’t even able to see it (so the whole flag thing was only in the drama).

The Emperor felt fine doing all of his nonsense so long as Ruyi was still alive and he was able to go back to. Now, she's really beyond his reach, he's lost.
All he needed to do was love her truly and honour her sincerely.
He is very pompous and lost the best thing that happened to him long before Ruyi died!

In the real life Ruyi's funeral wasn't of an Empress, it was the same of and Imperial Noble Consort, and her coffin was made in poor wood, and she was buried beside a concubine not where the Empresses and Emperors are buried.

The actor who play the king, did his job beyond excellent. I hated the kings guts. Women were nothing but a chess piece. Honestly i dont feel he really love Ruyi. You abandoned her at every opportunity that came around, and it wasn't convenient to keep her with you. You were led around by your lust for women, and power that ultimately led to the paranoia that affected all around you. So much so that you let that viperous snake into the harem that lead to so many loss of lives. In the end you don't deserve anything when you have taken so much. He** Rong didn't even want to have your kids, that should have clued you in on something. Like with most men you did most of your thinking with the little brain.
