Kevin O'Leary: You Can Get Rich Going To Trade School

  • Kevin O'Leary thinks attending college isn't necessarily the best financial decision for everyone. “I don’t recommend college for everybody,” O’Leary tells CNBC Make It. “The fact is, there’s a lot of trade schools that would help you make a lot more money. Be a plumber, they get rich,” he says. “Everybody has to have a plumber, even in a recession.”
    In a previous interview, O'Leary told us that perspective students should think about the amount of debt they'll incur and how a college education will help them pay that off. To that point, the time and cost commitments for trade schools tend to be less than a traditional college or university education.

    I totally agree with this. While trade school is not for everyone, neither is Unversity. However, society and our education system has built up such a stigma against trade school and blue-collar work that a lot of people skip out on a trade and go to Unversity for a degree they aren't sure they want because everyone tells them it's the right thing to do. If you are the type of person who would be happy doing hands-on work, trade school is 100% the best option. It is a shame that so many people look down on these jobs with some false sense of superiority.

      Rodolfo Alvarado dumbass I have an MBA, 2 undergrad degrees. Going to college isn’t what it use to be. Grad school I believe is still valued and a minimum requirement in today’s market. But undergraduate degrees is very very watered down and 50-60% of undergraduate degrees will not get you a decent paying job. Trade apprentices or trade school is a very very viable and worthy option. I have a brother with a Ph.d, myself with an MBA and my other brother is a mater electrician. Let me tell you who gets work non-stop demand, sustainability. Not the PH.D let me tell you or myself.

    As a nation we need to change post-hs education.
    You shouldn't have to go to college to make a decent salary and wage. People who don't want to go to college but feel compelled or who don't possess high enough intellect but get in anyway (i.e affirmative action and lowered standards) becoming A. Brainwashed social justice warriors B. Failures who wasted tens of thousands of dollars in debt, 4 years and can only get a near minimum wage job like working at a coffee shop.
    So either a H.S degree and moving up or trade school should suffice to enter or stay in the middle class.

    • @blazewon22
      @blazewon22 5 лет назад +1

      For the record Affirmative Action is not about lowering standards but its about giving an opportunity to a qualified minority. Believe it or not prior to 1965 in America it was almost impossible for Women and Racial Minorities to get admitted to colleges and universities due blatant racism and sexism. AA was an attempt to balance the campus makeup and eventually diversify the white collar workforce. We all do better as a nation if everyone has an opportunity to be on an even playing field. Considering that almost 55 years later Whites still dominate the population of most universities AA has not harmed the country.
      As far as choosing an alternative to college I agree that not everyone should go to college, especially straight after High School and there are plenty of careers where you can make a decent living depending on the area. Some areas are rural and you may have to move to make a decent quality of life. W. VA with the death of Coal Mines and Detroit with the death of big Auto come to mind.

    You can get rich, but it doesn’t mean you will.
    Compared to college, someone’s got to design everything around you, or help you when you’re ill. An arts degree is... yea I don’t know what’s the demand for that. But like plumbers and electricians, there’s a demand for engineers and medical professionals. So if you can go to college and get these degrees then do them cuz they pay more, especially in the long run.

    • @kurochi4768
      @kurochi4768 5 лет назад +4

      Either option is prosperous. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, truck drivers will always be in demand and that they pay more based in experience. My cousin is an OTR truck driver and he makes way more than I make as a web developer.
      A degree gets you a better salary, sure, but you gotta remember the debt you're paying off, too. Not trying to argue, you're certainly right, but I disagree that college is a better option "in the long run."

    • @Bradman175
      @Bradman175 5 лет назад +2

      Christopher Gregory I think it’s a case of two different wealth curves here. Degree required jobs generally have a higher pay than their trade school counterpart, but trade is probably quicker into gaining wealth. But if you’re just a good businessman in general, that’s probably the most important to becoming wealthy.

    • @kurochi4768
      @kurochi4768 5 лет назад

      @@Bradman175 it's also based on the market. From my experience, programming jobs are one of the highest demanding fields but they're oversaturated with novice coders, degree or not.
      Meanwhile, if you want to have an income to simply live in your own and have a car with little debt and no financial strait, I'd say local trades/apprenticeships are the way to go.

    • @Bradman175
      @Bradman175 5 лет назад

      Stormtrooper No doubt programming is way over saturated. I wouldn’t do it nor suggest it but if I were, I’d do a double degree or even a masters just to have some slight edge over other people. And you can definitely have okay income with trade school jobs. I think it’s a case by case situation, some countries university is free, some countries it’s cheaper, some let you have scholarships if you work at other companies, then you get a job position straight after graduation at that company. Some degrees are actually under saturated compared to demand.

    • @kurochi4768
      @kurochi4768 5 лет назад

      @@Bradman175 I wouldn't suggest going for a double degree or a master's. Having a degree gives you a leg up with employers than someone who doesn't, but that's no reason to swallow up so much debt.
      I'm not anti-college, I'm anti-debt. If you ask me, exploring opportunities such as internships and building personal projects while attending a state school is WAY better than simply going to a fancy, EXPENSIVE out-of-state top tier school. If you have that piece of paper plus experience with a proven skillset, you're more valuable than someone who graduated from Harvard and has no experience.
      Also, not all trades give "okay" pay (that is, depending on your definition of "okay"). What determines a tradesman pay is usually their experience and the company they work for. There are plenty of electricians who make six figure, as well as elevator repairmen and diesel techs.

    Rich people love talking about trade schools like it's the ultimate answer and anyone can do it. While it may not be hard and the return on investment is superior to other college opportunities. You also have to think about your lifestyle. You aren't just going to fix a sink and make 100k. You're going to be knee deep in excrement, you'll be working way more than the usual 40hours and it'll be labor intensive. Not to mention that the environment is one that you have to be ok with. What I mean by that is that most trade programs are usually filled with conservative Republicans and while there's nothing wrong with that, if you're a left wing liberal you will have issues in the field with other workers. Don't just jump into trade school because you think it's the fastest way to become wealthy. You truly have to enjoy the job or you'll quit or drop out within a year or two and then you just wasted money on a failed investment..

Meanwhile there are people younger than me driving vintage porsches and can afford a broken leg. Even with the online stuff I can’t put out and make income claim disclosures. And since your making a claim and what I experienced. Your totally incorrect and I could personally file a lawsuit on you for making this kind of claim.

      @your name I love making Democrat and Republican people look stupid. I have to put up and deal with them all the time. I call those people, Demopublican/Republicrat snowflakes. I'm an Independent because America was founded on Independence. Im not part of the Donkey/Elephant sheep cult system. Im going to make you look stupid even more because it seems that the formal education system has brainwashed you. High school Diploma, vocational tech degree, and college degree have brainwashed a large popular percentage of people. Im not your bro punk.
      Self Education is the new norm. I may have a so High school/vocational diploma, and a little college in all but I threw it all in the trash because it's just a useless participation award. Ive learned way more in self education and experience than I did with formal. It seems that you really don't understand about how disclosures, claims, guidelines, how to word specific things, what to say and what not to say actually works.For me I can't just say to someone with the online things that I do, For Example: If you would like to do what i'm doing I promise you within 1 Week you could make 10,000 or more per week like me. That would be considered a claim. Thats not feasibly possible for someone who is brand new. Usually when you talk and list about income opportunities regarding to whatever that is, you have to put in words and important disclosure disclaimers like, results are not typical, results are based on the individuals performance of the skills, knowledge, and experience to do so, and especially depending on the demand.
      Unfortunately on behalf of Kevin Oleary and CNBC Make it, they never listed any disclaimers in writing either in their video or in the caption of this video post. Someone like me who went to a vocational school and did plumbing, I never got rich at all. I have an actual case to simply prove it. It's no different from someone who sued Redbull for stating It gives you wings. Or even how companies/ individuals said and worded specific promotions and ads. That particular part has nothing to do with Democrat, Republican, or these other named political groups. Laws are laws.
      Also were you ever taught or even realized in life that when you play a sport that the whole idea is to win the Championship. Also playing the board game monopoly, make the most money to win. So if i'm making way more money online than I ever did doing plumbing, then why on earth would I still stick to that. Also with the online income, I have much better tax write off advantages, like writing off a percentage of my rent, air/ lodging traveling im able to write that off, cell phone bill im able to write off a percentage, a new computer/ new phone im able to write it off, also I had a car payment and I was able to deduct a percentage of that off. So if I was a liberal then that would I mean I would hate capitalism and not want tax write off advantages. Also I owe less to the government. The days of being a W2 plumber, I never was bale to get any of these advantages.
      But I was actually pretty good at plumbing but unfortunately it wasn't making me rich and I got bored of trading my time to make someone else more money instead of building a future myself.
      Whats so laughable is there are individuals who walked out of school completely with no ged, no high school diploma, no vocational degree, or a college degree and make 1 million dollars or more per month. So how is formal education working out again? Funny thing is construction is being done on the street that I live on and everything to how they reconstructed the road is out of line, awful measurements, and everything is messed up. This was all done and coordinated by High school diploma, vocational degreed individuals, and college degreed architect/ engineers.Yup great education system we have.
      Rich people put their money to work. Poor people trade time for money. Now obviously when your trying to establish the residual income you will need to trade time to establish it. Also it's 2020 not 1960. You don't need any sort of formal education or certification of some kind to make money. No generation has so many opportunities.
      And yes Trump 2020 I have to agree on that. I love the advantages that I get with the tax write offs with how the Trump Administration set things up.
