I totally agree, I regret going to college you spend time and energy taking courses you will never use in life, with a trade you only learn what is needed and the actual skills you’ll use for the trade. College is also expensive and will drive people into debt that they will never be able to pay off. A lot of trades are short term and pay well immediately upon completion sounds like a win win situation.
If the degree you picked isn't useful then why did you pick it?
@@eks_0 great question, I think bad decision at the time. Either way I am grateful I went even though I didn’t use the degree , the college experience was very interesting and I met a lot of nice people.
Idk what college you went to and what major you chose but I’m Gucci over here lmao If he really felt Trade was better than college than he himself wouldn’t have went nor would his kids. His grand kids are in college which he’s paying for😂😂 Never trust the word of the rich. That’s how they remain rich 😉

Trades should be brought back to high schools. We should follow the German(and presumably other European countries') high school models with different paths, an academic and a vocational path. The vocational path should be appreciated and respected just as much as the academic path.
My 16 year old son is working part time while attending a free 2-year welding program through a trade school. He'll be graduating high school with every certification he's going to need to walk into an entry level welding job that he can continue to build upon. Zero debt. Secured job. Benefits. 401k. His 23 is going to look very different than the 23s binge drinking downtown at the University who just graduated college with $46,000 in debt with no job lined up. Tell me who's winning here.

Trades are awesome! There isn't any field that doesn't have trade you could go in beauty, construction, medicine, computer &tech, cooking, real estate, business fiance, education, bartending, art& Cinema etc. there are trades for all fields something for everyone
I thought trade schools don’t teach business or finance?
Some now offer accounting etc,it’s amazing

It can get you the job, but you’ll get paid less than someone who has a trade school on their application.

My kids went straight to work after highschool and they are doing great! They didn't even want to a trade school you can learn trades righ at work.. actually my daughter who didn't even graduate from highschool is earning the most money.. not that I recommend anyone who dropped out of school.. but even that I tell her everyday to get her GED and she have been working on it have already passed her English and science tests.. she's making money she does nails..( self thought) and also managed and served at a restaurant..she has great credit and is making around 60,000 a year.. in a bad year without even graduating from highschool.. nothing beat a hard working individual..the other ones who graduated highschool make less , But for their age bith under 22 years old they are doing great as line Cooks ..
I should have went to Automotive then art school. Waste of everything. But I did dropped out middle of third year and worked at a hardware store. No regrets.

No more than ever is better to go to a trade school!
Engineering is flooded with foreign workers and underpaid. In addition, many engineering jobs are tied to private and government contracts which are unstable and and vulnerable in the economy. For example defense and construction contracts. If you’re going to go to college medicine is the way to go, not engineering. Accounting is another extremely stable job market. Doctors, therapists, PAs, and accountants always have a good job.
It's funny how these uninitiated goons want to tell you what you need to do to land a stable career but you can tell they most likely never worked a day in or even near one of these careers they want to feign having some profound understanding of. There are trades that are easy to break into and make good wages and there are plenty more that take years of hard work or make impossible standards for graduates to even get their foot in the door that it's starting to mirror the problem of going to college. Just look at my field of work, welding. 1 Reddit search will reveal a whole new world of empty promises and wasted time.
I was an electrician and I’m sorry it’s not as great as y’all think almost every tradesmen I’ve met wishes they went to college for stem.

@@daveo2431 Firstly let me start off by saying electrical is a great trade there’s a lot people that absolutely love it like my old boss but there’s some draw back,
1) working in the environment know I never actually realized how bad this was but be prepared to be working in extreme heat or freezing temps, not to mention the hell hole called attics
2) DANGER electrical is an extremely dangerous job from falling off ladders to electrocuting yourself on a daily basis you cannot avoid this, to add I’m close friends with many electricians and all of them have back problems, one time my friends dad was working on a 40 foot ladder and he touched an open neural blasting him with 400v of electricity putting him in a paralysis.
3) no 40hr work weeks, if you’re in most trades be prepared to work 50hrs a week plus there’s no avoid this
4) Learning- know although there’s trade school field experience trumps all and in my opinion give the trade a shot before you go to school
5) you can only learn as much as your teacher- know fortunately for me I was working with a master electrician who was extremely nice took the time to show me the ropes this is extremely important because often times you will see an apprentice with 4 to 5 years of experience that still knows nothing while someone like me knows more than them after a year because their boss took the time to show them the ropes
6)Benifit -most companies do not provide benefits such as health care 401(k) retirement plan etc Know you can join the union but in New York local three is dog shit and they lay off workers like nothing
6)pay-master electricians can make a lot of money, my friends dad makes 140k and my dad friends makes 200k plus but to achieve this goal you must become a master electrician wich means it will take 12 years to get your license and then you have to start your own business. Without a license you’re topped out at around 35-40hr.
7) now when you hear these tradesmen say they are making 100l plus they aren’t saying how many hours they worked to get to this cause I promise you they’re working 60hrs a week.
8)Iong term-although you will not have student loans you will make less money in the long run you will be destroying your body on top of making less money working double the hours of an engineer who sits at a desk and works 40hr a flat

He is full of it. Did his kids go to trade schools? Many of those jobs are open to the whim of the market in ways other jobs aren’t. Those jobs are also being phased out by automation. The other jobs are seasonal. These kids need affordable higher education and upon graduation ACCESS. The access that his social circle gets and passes to their Kids. That’s what especially black folk need.
Most trades can't be taken by automation, actually the opposite is true, most jobs people go to college for don't even exist anymore, if you don't wanna be a doctor or engineer don't go to college
Come to Seattle where we have the most construction in our city in the United States, the most cranes in our city, as well as pending construction jobs. Trades can work all year carpenters can do finish work and be in a apartment building or office building working in the winter. Most journey level trades in Seattle make $48-60 an hour. I know quite a few who works well over 40 a week if they please. Electricians, hvac, carpenters, etc.
I did and work on my own and have more money than anyone I grew up with that didn't inherit it. Plumbing is an incredible career.
Have you ever heard about the mechanical trades? Electrical, plumbing, HVAC. These jobs will never be replaced by technology,unless they come up with a robot to grade cast iron pipe at a quarter inch right over a sprinkler pipe, through a slab of concrete. U need working hands on tools for jobs like this. Not knocking off college though, but opportunities are endless for tradesman. Working higher up at a company, becoming a project manager, job site foreman/Superindentant, taking ur skill and starting ur own practice and hiring apprentices.

Engineering is way more competitive than what they say. If your not in the field you won't be able to to understand nthe cons of waiting for that raise.
The thing is that there are VERY few subjects in college that are actually valuable in the job market. They are pretty much either in STEM(science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) or in FAME(Finance, Accounting, Management, or Economics).
@@thetrailer5050 College also has too many Pre-Courses like electives you have to take. Like if I go to college I only want to take IT/engineering related courses, no one wants to take university foundation courses or history elective bcz its needed. University system is stupid.

The younger generation is going to ask AI 😮😮😮 how to build a house, fix the leaky sink, fix lights, or repair a car. We need trades school.
It should be a law that all trade schools and colleges provide transportation to an from the school not public transportation where you have to ride maybe 3 buses to and from when yo have to waste 5 hrs a every day just to go and get home let them get the money back on tax incentives

Honestly it really depends on what they're interested in. Trade schools are great in the sense you can take a quick program, finish within 6 months to a year, and get into the workfield & earn amazingly well for yourself ie Business programs in trade schools pay very well. As do electricians, computer technicians, etc.
College is a lot of hurdles/painful difficulties in the sense of finances. And/or eligibilities. So, it's definitely sacrificing themselves to earn themselves an education for what truly in the end(?) Simply for a good paying job.
Yeah, managing the production of robotics is not a skill your going to develop in trade school. Thats gonna be the person who put in the work and likely has a Masters degree in electrical engineering or computer science. I have nothing against the trades but this whole trades vs college in earnings or advancement is a lie. I grew up in a blue collar family of tradesmen and people I know were always in and out of work and the earnings were fairly middle of the road. Thats why I chose military, college, and graduate school I dont have those issues. My cousins who are union tradesmen are constantly in and out of work. When they're working they make ok money but they honestly would have made more had they went to a university and got educations and they would be managing not still getting yelled at by some guy who can barely speak english. If you want instant gratification an ok salary than go trade. If you want a solid education, large earning potential, and you have the discipline to finish a university level program go to college. Trade work is not all its cut out to be.
Plus, union trade jobs offer everything you would pay for in a corporate or non union shop. Union offers, health , dental, vision, pension, great wage and when you retire you’re guaranteed healthcare as long the youngings continue to contribute. In corporate You’ll have a better salary’s bit your health premiums will be high. So when you really don’t the math it comes done to how hard you work and what you look for in a job. If you go to school and work for someone then go ahead and build someone else’s dreams, if you do what you like and work hard you’ll eventually be successful
@@Big_Thony Right on, look man it wasn’t a personal sneer. True, it was my families personal experience. But they do legit trades. Electrical, HVAC, I got a cousin whose a plumber and he makes a decent living. It’s cool out of school. If I was to go trade I’d go plumber based simply on the fact they seem to make more than other trades people. Either that or radiology, who make big dough. That being said if someone goes to college and goes to graduate school it’s a whole different ball game as far as earnings. I just think these videos should be honest in their assessments. Let me give you an example. A electrician fresh out of trade school and training is making about 35.00 and hour. I know this cause I checked. A clinical therapist is making about 60.00 an hour for the same amount of time training. Given the college guy was not making money while schooling so it probably averages out. But he doesn’t have the physical toll on his body and he’ll be making six figures within 2 years and receive hefty bonuses. Look man it’s cool I appreciate the trades and think they’re necessary. That being said nothing tops formal education except being born into money period. It is what it is. If you have the intelligence and “discipline” to go through college DO IT!!… If your an instant gratification kinda person do the trade thing, you will be good financially guaranteed. But your max earning potential is in formal education that’s just how it is.
I hear a lot about how guy’s “didn’t like classrooms, test, studying”. College isn’t for people like that. I didn’t like it either. However, I understand that in order to get what I want out of life I have to do things I do not like. A class is 3 months, common man it’s not that serious. Do that shit and move on. Or go to trade school, get your cert, and receive mediocre results for mediocre pay. Some make money that’s cool but their exceptional. If your not, you know it. Either way good luck.

To the youngsters that are smart and disciplined enough for graduate, law, and medical school, do it. Society needs you and you will make significant income because most people cannot and will not complete the level of education you are willing to do. There are no short cuts in life. @@IJCJR , WTF are you talking about??! Of course we need doctors, lawyers, nurses and engineers and whoever decides, feels strongly capable of achieving it should pursue it. However for those who already have second thoughts about college should consider other options. Society created this stigma that without college one can never achieve success . There’s millionaires without formal education, there’s poor people struggling to pay off student loans, there’s millionaires who have MBAs in well respected corporations. So, no I’m not against college but I am realistic to what’s going on around us. When I say people like to get degrees and fulfill other people’s dreams is because it’s what I’ve seen. Is it always true?! Of course not there’s people who just get educated to learn , network, get experience and venture out on their own. Same thing about trades…. People finish their apprenticeships and start their small company
