Yeah love those Friedman's my favorite one is the Bill Kelliher Butterslax signature head. And Friedman has my most favorite guitar cab which is the 412/15 Checkered cab it has two Celestion G12H30 speakers and two 15 Fullback Celestions. The 2x12 + 2x15 combination is a monster of a cab.
@Xplora213 Agree 100%. His tone was always a little ahead of the curve from the jump. Dirt is my favorite AiC album, and those tones were sick AF! But for me personally I really loved Jerry's tone on Facelift the most, and I spent many an hour trying to replicate it back in the day with my old Dual Rec. From the opening grind on We Die Young I was absolutely hooked! Jerry was always underrated back during their heyday - at least in my band circles - so it's been awesome to see him get his flowers later in life as Alice became so much more respected and influential thanks to RUclips. The metal kids coming up today seem to really get just how brilliant Jerry, Layne, and AiC in general, were and it makes me so happy!
Jerry‘s been writing incredible music for over 30 years. Layne’s voice was untouchable and together they had something truly special. Either of the two by themselves could easily carry a band of mediocre players into the charts.
@@thaile4417 mid-high gain, very punchy. Really relied on the bassist for low end punch. Honestly not too different from the album tone, just much, much louder. I saw him around 2011. Highly recommend.
As a musician (guitar), Alice will forever be my favorite band. I’m biased but Jerry will forever be my favorite guitarist, Layne will forever be my favorite vocalist, and so on. They made the best music I have ever listened to/felt and legitimately still continue to do so. Long live those Alice boys.
Anyone else would've played a track from the Layne era, its great to see respect for the new era of AiC. Cantrell is and will ALWAYS be a riff lord. The new albums are underrated as shit.
Hey Ola, reviews are getting better & more comfortable feeling. You Sir deserve ten million followers but let's get you to one million. Hope that everyone in the family is great & looking forward to the next video.
Amazing job Ola. Soooo glad you picked songs/tones from their more recent catalog. AIC is a top 5 all-time favorite band for millions and yes Jerry is definitely is a legend!
You were getting that "stringy sound" as you called it, because when you were angling the pickup that way, the low E was literally sitting on the pickup cover and touching it. That's why it sounded bad. Not because of the actual angle of the pickup. Thank for another fun video, Ola.
Jerry’s tone on the first two AIC albums are some of the best heavy guitar tones ever put on tape to this day. The Snorkler Marshall, I never considered AIC grunge maybe they’re the missing link between Skid Row and grunge, but they were always a metal band. Them Bones crushes if you haven’t heard the Dirt Demo version of Them Bones go check it out right now. Who else sees that Them Bones riff and thinks JC might have influenced Dime a little bit maybe ?
Pickup just needed lowered is all. That's a bad ass guitar man. The Philips screws in the middle of the rings. Also Ola, get some 3m pad and taken down the sticky clear coat on the back of the neck, just a little, and it'll make it feel fast. The friedman amps are amazing!. Probly the be100 deluxe with the black Marshall knobs is the best one
I'm not a big fan of white guitars, but that Epiphone looks cool, especially with the brushed chrome. Sounds great too, thanks for sharing Ola! Rock On! 🤘🎸
Ola proving Jim Lills theory to be spot on. Pickup placement to the strings is a huge part of a guitars tone. Far more important than other, more expensive options. Great vid as always Ola.
@@RobbieTayVaughan they're not a signature set, just the modern fluences if I remember right. It's a cool guitar, but the whole thing seems odd being a Jerry signature considering I've never seen him playing a Les Paul like this in public
I have one and swapped Gibby 498t/490r pups into it, and it's honestly one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned or played for that matter. The neck carve is AWESOME and feels fantastic as it's a Jerry Cantrell custom shape. I've also upgraded the wiring, switch and bridge which wasn't much either. I do the work myself so I save quite a bit there. I'll never part with this tone monster lol. Hope you continue to enjoy yours man. Rock on 🤘
I absolutely love the JJ Jr. I thankfully got one when it was first released before the inflation, and it's been my No. 1 ever since. So unique and interesting. I've had it for over 2 and a 1/2 years now and it's still inspiring to play every time I plug in. I'd love to hear you play through it with a variety of guitars... Saying that, I'd be curious to see what you thought of Cantrell's other Epiphone, the Wino, as the pickups are wired closer to his Gibson Wino specs. AIC has been my favorite back since I heard Facelift in 1990.
Jerry has the best heavy tones outside of metal IMO. Right from the moment he rips the door off the hinges on We Die Young right up to modern day. Those tones have changed, but they've always been amazing. Jerry tunes in that lower mid grind that I love.
Please make a longer review of this amp, how it takes different pedals, will it chug etc. Would love to know your impressions after owning it for a while.
Ooh ... close-up of the Friedman amp settings - I'm trying these out with the Friedman sim on the POD Go! Very tight tones considering you are not using a boost or overdrive. Those pickups must have a lot of drive built in.
The thing about that guitar is that there is a lot of weight variance from one unit to the next. I’ve seen one that was something like 7 lb 8 oz; I’ve also seen others that are like 10 lb 2 oz. Lots of weight variance. So if you’re at the guitar shop and you’re looking at one of these, and your only objection is the weight, I would strongly recommend asking your friendly salesperson if they have any other units in the back. Heft each guitar . Maybe you’ll find something you like. Unfortunately, I only discovered this gorgeous beast, a couple months after making a guitar purchase into which I put a lot of money and work. Had I seen this first, I might have tried to save up for it, because this guitar sounds dead stellar.
I did really enjoyed this video, cool easy going presentation and it gives a superb impression of the gear. It's probably the first time that i could hear the sound of this little monster amp, while other guitarist just want to show how many notes per second they can play, that sucks. abo for sure.
I could never put my finger on why I don't like Fishman pickups, you just identified what I'm hearing, that metallic high end stringy 'crispy-ness', it's in every demo video online to some degree, can't un-hear it. Amazing the difference that little tilt in the pickups angle made.
just a fyi: bought your albums on vinyl and it brings the level of awesome of your music to a crazy new level. also... I have a coupla JJ Jr's and they're crazy good amps. Funny saw these guys play in the early 90s right before they hit it big miss those days . Anyways just got the Wino model and loving it well worth the money and has a great case with it as well . Now to get the G&L porno one but that going for crazy prices used oh well one can dream LOL . Great for showing this this Guitar and rocking it out . Great stuff Ola loving your channel .
By coincidence, plugged into my JJ Jr this afternoon prior to seeing this vid. Not played thru it in quite a while - I was thinking maybe I should get rid of it? Uhm. Nope. It’s great - as you’ve done a great job of demonstrating here Ola.
We just narrowly missed a hurricane in Tampa and the Alice In Chains show was cancelled. Broke my heart, but I see it as payment for not having my house destroyed. Jerry is my fav guitarist. We had front row tickets.
Hope you dig the video!

Black Gives Way To Blue is such an underrated AIC album. Some of the heaviest riffs are in there and one of Cantrell's best tones.
Great Dinosaur avatar ;-)
(and yes i know the picture is much older than green mind)
Acid Bubble and Last of My Kind are my favorites
Absolutely. A looking in View, Your Decision, Check My Brain, All Secrets Known, all bangers.
The intro riff of "All Secrets Known" is so powerfull!
Best album post Layne ❤
Cantrell has some of the best tones in music. Always has. We tool around with sound but Jerry had it figured out 30 years ago.

Cantrell has the best live guitsr tone I've ever heard. Saw AIC at an outdoor amphitheater and his tone still blew my face off.
I'd love to hear you describe more about his live tone. Was it with tons of gain like metal bands? Hope I can get to see him one day.

Not an ax I would ever imagine Cantrell using, but I dig it. I’ll always have time for his sig gear after his wah changed my life.
