If you can get your hands on a DigiTech RP150 professor pedal, there's a patch online called "Rooster". What I did was put the patch on one page and then copied it to the page right next to it, but removed the distortion pedal. I use those two pages for both Rooster and Black by Pearl Jam.
I second this! Heres my estimate for the Kim/ Chris rigs they might come up with. Epi SG/Gretsch Streamliner G2622, Laney Tony Iommi 15w/Marshal DLS 40c, and lastly Nano Muff/Wah for Kim(chorus for the black hole sun sound since of course they would play that)
HELLO FROM NEW ENGLAND...YES, JERRY HAS HIS OWN CUSTOM WAH WITH THE MIDS SCOOPED..THAT';S HOW HE GOT THAT UNMISTAKABLE SCUZZY WAH SOUND....PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST....
What does being from New England have to do with anything? Hi I like potato chips and Jerry uses his own signature wah. Messing with you man, but come on dude.
For the Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean De’Leo, he mainly uses a Gibson Les Paul with a Seymour Duncan Jazz pickup in the bridge position and 10’s strings. Into Chorus, delay using 2 stereo Rocktron Intelliverb units then, into two channels of a Demeter TGP-3 guitar preamp then, into both channels of a VHT 50/50 Classic power amp then, into two Marshall cabs. And also, a clean signal goes into a AC30 running clean and chimey. The same gear as described is pretty much all the same except throughout different songs just, different song have different variations of stereo chorus which, are in that same stereo Intelliverb unit.
Jeff Hanneman was also in love with a Jackson Soloist, which fun fact, was the guitar used to model Hanneman's signature model off of. The DSL40 would be a great budget option, as it will make you sound more like Slayer than say a Bassbreaker 45. Egnaters are also good for that kinda sound. As for Kerry, pretty much any guitar with a Floyd would be good. But it would be a better option to go with a BC or something similar if there are no BC's in stock.
Great Job once again guys! I think a LOT of people watching these videos are missing one real crucial point. The Series is called Sounds like WITHOUT busting the bank. That means a lot of things. A lot of us cannot afford to have G&Ls shipped to us if our local shop doesn't stock them and can't afford Friedman Amps or in some cases, even expensive Friedman pedals! So the fact you're both willing to go through a bit of hell to get CLOSE to a sound as complex as Jerry Cantrells is amazing. I never would have in a million YEARS thought to use a Vox for AIC. I get that he is using Friedman now and that is the AIC sound but it would have been killer to see what you would have chosen if the Friedman pedal was not around. What would give you a Bognar sound? Its just really sad that if you both don't sound EXACTLY like the artist or miss what people think are the signature riffs its somehow deemed a failed experiment. My stance is "Yeah, Ok, they didn't play Wood or whatever, you see the rig they used, go get it and DO THAT RIFF if you feel you can!" Thats the best PART of these videos. You see the sound is achievable, now either mimic what you both are doing, or see if you can build a similar rig. As it was said below, I am sure this video is selling a LOT of Friedman BE-ODs! I think the OTHER thing people aren't getting is, this isn't live. You both probably TRIED all the famous riffs, thought they sounded less than stellar and said "Nah, we aint showing THAT!" But maybe you should? "How sometimes a $1500 budget sounds like s**t on Andertons TV" Just drive the point home "You can get SOME of the sounds, but not ALL of them" for $1500". Thanks again for the great videos. Weekly beg. PLEASE Do Tom Petty/Mike Campbell..... Cheers
This is my favorite episode. I've been hooked on AIC for years. Alice Unchained was my idea for an AIC cover band long before Rabea decided he wanted to be the hair from Coheed and Cambria. I said it first Claudio. .
I love you guys and what you do buuuut the Alice In Chains new stuff isn't their iconic work. It's the albums from the 90's! Facelift, Dirt Jar of flies!
My thoughts exactly. Apparently '90s kids don't get warmed up for AiC as much as for something like Blink182. And judging all episodes so far, RATM and Nirvana are the only '90s bands that really resonate still with Bea and Matt. [shame] But hey, now we at least know why this episode took so long.
I'm pretty sure Jerry Cantrell uses the Jerry Cantrell signature crybaby, not the Hendrix one. Either way sounds great guys! Can't wait to see what's next. I'd love to see this one on by busting the bank
Kinda hurts to hear my Epiphone Les Paul called second best... but, I bought it for the versatility, so its cool to know you almost chose my guitar for this sound
...I guess he's had signature models since their first album right? or at least that's what you're saying Jackson king v, or the dean vmnt with a JB/Jazz combo (what he used to use, that or a SD custom bridge) leading into a marshall jcm 800 through decuir Cabs with Celestion's Really most of dave's signature stuff is fairly low priced, even after a pup change if you want one lol
I totally agree on that BE-OD Pedal. It actually "Marshallized" my clean Fender Super Amp \m/ .... very underated pedal imo. In fact I went so far as to buy the Friedman Jerry Cantrel JJ 100 Amplifier head and immediately took the amp back because it was just a bunch of buzzy crappy distortion. So I bought a Marshall SLP 1959 HW amp head instead and I run the BE-OD Pedal into that. OMG are you kidding me that setup killz. GREAT F***ING PEDAL !!!

Great vid guys. Nailed it. In some future video, can you explain a bit about the American vs. British sounds in amps? I hear you talk about that a lot but I don't know what the difference is.
Kevin Carmical Generally this is the rule: American: Loads of bass and treble, pretty midscooped. Really clear and clean. British: Loads of midrange, less bass and less treble. Pretty raw and dirty,
Electric Wizard would be an easy one! Get a Behringer SF300. Use mode 2 for Dopethrone and mode 3 for anything later than that. Get a Gibson or Epiphone SG tuned to A# standard into a Marshall DSL40C or something like that. Maybe get a volume pedal and a phase 90, but that's all just for extra flavor.
zachisebi I think they stay clear of Chapman seeing as matt works for Chapman and Rabea is a Chapman artist, I don't know for certain but that's the only reason I can think of why they didn't use it
Exactly my thought. That guitar would be just perfect, it even has a Seymour Duncan JB and cost less than the Charvel. I don't know if they have a rule about don't using Chapmans on Sounds Like, if not, they just have lost a perfect oportunity to promote the brand.
Actually the G&L Rampage that Jerry uses has a Kahler tremolo, but again for that price range and aesthetic I don't think they have a guitar that matched more than the Hot Rod.
Jerry Cantell has a signature G&L Superhawk Tribute that is about 400 quid. I have one, and it is a sweet guitar!!! The feel of the guitar and the tone it sends are just plain motherfuckering!!!!

sound like Alice in Chains and no Rooster on the clean tone? Sacrilige
MacPac78 But Rooster isn’t clean exactly as it’s, for the most part, watered down with sweet chorus.
:)
If you can get your hands on a DigiTech RP150 professor pedal, there's a patch online called "Rooster".
What I did was put the patch on one page and then copied it to the page right next to it, but removed the distortion pedal. I use those two pages for both Rooster and Black by Pearl Jam.
Final Solution we understood what he said... it’s kinda obvious
You defo need to re do this one without the budget...kinda annoyed u didn't play iconic riffs like "man in the box", "would? Or " Rooster"
ValkyrieBSG Agreed but they did play a bit of Man in the Box at 14:22
ValkyrieBSG I feel the same way, but im glad they finally got to AiC at all. They're way too underrated.
Agreed, a re-do without a budget and more riffs! \m/
definitely missing that rooster chorus sound
I wonder whether Matt could handle the intro to “Would.”
YES!FINALLY!Jerry is a massively underrated guitar player, the Guilmour of metal, like somebody once said.
Half of the regulars are like, "Finally!"
Also, I think you guys just sold me on that Friedman pedal. I've been debating since I first saw Chappers and Captain Lee demo them.
I think they've just sold that pedal to most people watching the video, it is huge :)
