@adam goessl yeah, ever since their lead guitarist Justin Hawkins parted ways before joining The Darkness in 2000 they really didn't have as good work, their 1st and 2nd albums as of 1980 and 1982 were great but i still loved their song "Shape up and Shine" from the 1984 album "Live and Reloaded" which was the 3rd song Matt and Bea did in this video
How about the ultimate home recording rig. There's a whole world of gear to explore there, audio interfaces, monitors, daw's, plugins, small valve heads with DI capabilities. But nailing Marty or Chris Poland's tone is going to be harder.
Whilst living in the UK couple of years ago I was gigging a bit in the local pubs. Needed something universal and not damaging my bank account, yet solid and loud for the gear. My choice was a US std tele, Fender BDRI, Carl Martin PlexiTone, Ibanez AD9 and a 20 quid crybaby I got of Cash Converters. And you know what? It pretty much is the same after all these years. Nice vid, cheers!

Ranging from tones of Joe Bonamassa, SRV, Jeff Healey, Gary Clark Jr, Robert Cray, Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, etc. Would love to see your interpretation on it. I would go with By Busting and Not Busting versions as many of these guys use some pretty exclusive amps and guitars.
My dad bought me a White Mexican Tele on my fifteenth birthday, and though I've bough many more expensive, technically 'better' guitars since then, it's still my go to whip whenever I'm playing. When I read the title of this video I was instantly thinking of almost exactly that gear! 👍 You should try the Hot Rod with a Les Paul! Sounds awesome!!
Yes! Been waiting for sounds like Genre's! Great job, and good call on mix of Les Paul/Marshall and Tele/Fender. Sounded great, very true gigging rigs for decent amount of budget that will last years covering many tones.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Holy smokes. That Tele/Fender combo is hard to beat. Stones/Who feel all day! Sounds SO GOOD! (aside from Matt trying to cover the ding, lol)
Great job guys...love these vids! Interestingly most rigs run into the wah and or the fuzz first but in your expert hands doesn't really matter. Would've liked to seen some phasers or flanger.
@Percebe that's not what i meant, i meant what song title would they give the 2nd riff cos it doesn't have a name, none of the songs in the video have a name so what made up song title would you give it and all the other made up songs in the video? you can add a made up album name or two too
Classic Vibe Stratocaster with all single coils, fender hotrod deluxe, EHX Soul Food Klon, Boss CE2W Chorus That would be my preffered rhythm rig to sound like the rhythm guitarist in the ultimate classic rock rig
STYX!! Pieces of Eight-Grand Illusion-Cornerstone period. Two very different styles/tones with James Young and Tommy Shaw, but it just works. Also, I’ve never seen anyone do a Sammy Hagar rig that will get that “Heavy Metal” tone. Huge!
John is most often using Gibson Les Pauls in D Standard so a les paul is obviously the way around for amps he used a Diezel VH4 to replicate his Kustom clean tone and a Cornford M50H for the higher gain stuff and when he uses a telecaster he uses Dr Z amplifiers, so i'd say probably a Blackstar Silverline combo and pedals he uses an EHX Small Clone, a Vibrato modified into a tremolo, an Moog MF delay for slapback on his telecaster rig, a Strymon El Capistan, a surf rider reverb, a Strymon Bigsky, a Boss RV5, a wren and cuff fuzz, and three Xotic boost pedals. so altogether i chose: Epi Les Paul Classic, Blackstar Silverline 100, Boss TR2, Xotic RC Boost, JHS 3 series Delay coming in at £1390
Yeah, Epiphone's Alnico Classics with A5ssound great in my G400. Eventually I'd like to get an Epi LP Std+ to hear the Probuckers with A2s. I've a feeling I might like those more. Unfortunately, my budget had to take a detour into an old used PRS McCarty which sounded great and had a decent price.
Both sweet rigs. It’d definitely be hard to choose. But the one you two gents put together in the attempt to emulate the late great Gary Moore is the rig I’d choose. Love the sound like. It really helped out big time thanks
yeah, sounds like Gary Moore was defo one of the better sound likes! sad to say this sound like here sounded nothing like Ultimate Classic Rock Rig, which sucks cos they're my favorite band of all time!
@@bigmoneygangster1498 Exactly, it's when all these sounds were first introduced, and they were heavily used by Page, Hendrix, Clapton, Joe Walsh, Leslie West, on and on etc. and etc. Even if you go back to the Beatles, they were using studio tricks to get a lot of effects like flanging, phase-shifting, etc. and people were using wahs from organs to get that sound in the '60s.
a more accurate take on the rigs of The Ultimate Classic Rock Rig would be... Lead: Epiphone SG Standard 61 Marshall Studio Vintage combo EHX East River Drive Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini Dunlop GCB95 Wah Fender Mirror Image Delay Rhythm: Fender Vintera 50's stratocaster Fender Blues Junior EHX Soul Food Boss Super Chorus Bass (which they didn't cover but is a huge part of the tone): Fender Vintera 60's jazz bass Ampeg BA-210 V2 bass combo
Andertons TV is very funny, just educational/informative enough and filled with strong personalities and a wide range of playing styles.......... I love watching! I buy a large percentage of my gear from the store and hope to continue to do so...... Just one thought though (And I mean no disrespect to the current presenters.) Female guitarists? Shouldn't there be a player or two on the team who show that guitar based obsession is not an entirely male thing???
for me i heard School of Rock and AC/DC in the first made up song (Rock Got No Reason/High Voltage) Mountain in the 2nd one (Mississippi Queen) probably Jimi Hendrix in the 3rd one (Voodoo Child Slight Return) and Red Hot Chili Peppers on the last one (Under The Bridge)
You should do "Sound like sound like", an episode where you choose a rig for each other. Your goal is to be as close as possible as each others taste and to make him try the rig in the end. With the same idea, you can do "sound like pedal show", "sound like chappers and the captain" and "sound like danish pete"... As long as the guys tries (and approve) the rig.
Great ideas there and good to go for a Fender/Marshall contrast. Only one thing missing, two acoustics to do the obligatory acoustic set in the middle! Otherwise known as 'drummer wants a pint' bit.
Y'know when I've seen this video before, I had dismissed Matt's rig with the Telecaster only because I was more focused on the Stratocaster at the time. However, I've since learnt that many of my favorites that had used a Fender had used a Telecaster. So here I am back to review what Matt has chosen. In the meantime, what Bea had chosen for the LP/Marshall rig is still spot on insofar as I am concerned. I've since have largely replicated this rig...aside me still not using the wah. Maybe in the future, I'll try using a wah.
Marshall Jtm 30s are seen as a sleeper and, and can be had for four or five hundred bucks. They can deliver you tone as good as amps worth 4 times that. Plus mods are available.
Great little Smashing Pumpkins esque tune there at the end. Not classic rock, per se, but sounded great. Overall, really good job nailing the sounds. Thanks guys.
Awesome, budget friendly rigs! The only thing I think should have been considered is possibly reverb as sounds like Peter Green and the 60s British guitarists did get some pretty distinctive broken up tones the more they turned up the reverb.
IMO I think classic rock ended right about the time Guns N Roses came out. I believe Rock music was changed once the 90's hit with the grunge era as well. The amps at the time were getting into the true distortion sound (like the Soldano SLO, Peavey 5150 and Mesa Dual Rectifier).
I approve matts choices. That’s a great, versatile rig for most gigs (probably not for metal lol.) EQ is a VERY good idea - could also function as a clean boost even without the echoplex boost, which is a sound I love - boosted signal hitting the preamp hard. Spend a couple of hundred more and you could have a Baja tele which would be pretty badass. I’d probably add an analogue style delay too. The Caitlinbread Adineko was suggested to me by the engineer on my last recording session - I tried and it sounds incredible.
i disapprove personally cos i mainly associate the rhythm guitar setup with a stratocaster, the ultimate classic rock rig's rhythm guitarist rarely used a telecaster, the amp is a correct port of call considering they used fender amps though for pedals i'd probably get a chorus for clean tones too
Its Brazzi I've been saying that they should do Megadeth since they started this series. I'd love to see Bea play the older stuff as well though. Like 'The Conjuring', 'Peace Sells' and 'Devils Island'.
@@maxscardanelli6185 peace sells is a monster record but I think Rust in peace is one of the best records in all of metal watching bea try to play rythem for songs like 'poison was the cure' or 'take no prisoners' would be super interesting.

Yes! cos their first take on Ultimate Blues Rig sounded nothing like Ultimate Blues Rig, which is a shame cos they're my favorite band of all time
I have a Epi Custom Pro and absolutely love it
Awesome!!, please do 80's heavy metal rig next. Cheers from Sweden.
When I read the title of this video I was instantly thinking of almost exactly that gear! 👍 You should try the Hot Rod with a Les Paul! Sounds awesome!!
Sound like Steve Lukather in the TOTO IV era
Reinier Klaassen good one!
I second this
Great rigs! You can do a metric crap ton of different stuff with what you’ve got there. The versatility is real! Well done gents.
Sound like A Perfect Circle
Yes! Been waiting for sounds like Genre's! Great job, and good call on mix of Les Paul/Marshall and Tele/Fender. Sounded great, very true gigging rigs for decent amount of budget that will last years covering many tones.
Sound like / Ultimate Bedroom Player Rig please!!
Yep, I'd like to see that, too. But maybe this is rather something for the "regular" Lee/Rob/Pete kind of videos...
i'd love that! Ultimate Bedroom Player Rig is my favorite band of all time!
@William Allison are you dumb fam? it's not a band
Without busting thé bank without busting thé bank.
Best Of cheapest gears used so far in your without busting thé bank vids.
Love the idea of doing rigs for eras.
Would you please do, Dinosaur Jr.?
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Holy smokes. That Tele/Fender combo is hard to beat. Stones/Who feel all day! Sounds SO GOOD! (aside from Matt trying to cover the ding, lol)
Sound Like The Stone Roses Without Busting The Bank
For me the Fender Player Stratocaster HSS and a Boss Katana 100 2x12, with a few tasty pedals i.e The Dane
Sound like Steve Hackett without busting the bank!
I'm a simple man, when I want to know how old the video is, I don't pause and minimize the screen. I just look at what stage Matt's beard is at.
Ultimate 90's alternative rock rig :D
oh yes! Ultimate 90's Alternative Rock Rig is my favorite band of all time
To me the opening riff you guys did in the room sounded kinda like The Who. I freaking loved this vid guys !!
See, I thought it sounded more AC/DC, personally.
Alexander Eddy I can see that too.
What would you name the opening riff? can you give it a fitting song title?
you don't have to if you don't want to.
@@KeeperOfPoops I call this one... "Rock Me All Night Long"
any good?
@@sakimiyu4169 yes!
How about a Sounds like Ace Frehley from the Kiss Alive album
That would be cool
God i like those classic rock sound !! Need to add a nice tele bridge pickup to my guitar
RORY GALLAGHER WITHOUT AND WITH PLZ
Great job guys...love these vids! Interestingly most rigs run into the wah and or the fuzz first but in your expert hands doesn't really matter. Would've liked to seen some phasers or flanger.
2nd riff sounds like Mississippi Queen
Wow thats true bro
Thats because it is
what would you name their 2nd riff?
@@KeeperOfPoops 10:40
@Percebe that's not what i meant, i meant what song title would they give the 2nd riff cos it doesn't have a name, none of the songs in the video have a name
so what made up song title would you give it and all the other made up songs in the video? you can add a made up album name or two too
I'd love a modern rock/ambience rig video!
Before Watching: Les Paul with Marshall DSL40C
All day, everyday
Tele deluxe fender champ 100 ds1 small clone
My rythym rig against Gibson lp and jcm 800
You were close lol
A Strat with a humbucker, Boss Nextone modeling amp, a drive, a fuzz, and a boost
Classic Vibe Stratocaster with all single coils, fender hotrod deluxe, EHX Soul Food Klon, Boss CE2W Chorus
That would be my preffered rhythm rig to sound like the rhythm guitarist in the ultimate classic rock rig
Love the careful hand placement by Matt to hide that big ol ding on top of the tele.
EDIT: ding at 4:27. Forgive me for pointing it out 🙆♂️
Sound like Cage the Elephant or Tame Impala without busting, pls!
FUDGE! You guy´s really rock. This is the sound I love and grow up with.
Since you brought them up. How about a sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd or better yet, Warren Haynes and or Duane Allman
Gary Rossington Steve Gaines Allen Collins Ed King. Lynyrd Skynyrd!!
I have the same tele and hot rod! Running into tuner Cs-2 fulltone full drive 2 , Russian muff, echobrainn, digital delay, ce-5. Lots of tone
On a serious note when are you gonna do a sounds like Volbeat?
So glad you guys are back.
Sound Like Rabea Massad for under $1500
Not possible
Well, they’ve already done that, at least with their Dorje rigs.
I bet it would be a cheap chapman to start with lop
Then add the Fro of Sound™ and a lot of swagger
STYX!! Pieces of Eight-Grand Illusion-Cornerstone period. Two very different styles/tones with James Young and Tommy Shaw, but it just works. Also, I’ve never seen anyone do a Sammy Hagar rig that will get that “Heavy Metal” tone. Huge!
How about sound like Tony Joe White or John Fogerty? Let's get swampy!
John Fogerty CCR would be very interesting because he used a Solid State KUSTOM amp !
John is most often using Gibson Les Pauls in D Standard so a les paul is obviously the way around
for amps he used a Diezel VH4 to replicate his Kustom clean tone and a Cornford M50H for the higher gain stuff and when he uses a telecaster he uses Dr Z amplifiers, so i'd say probably a Blackstar Silverline combo
and pedals he uses an EHX Small Clone, a Vibrato modified into a tremolo, an Moog MF delay for slapback on his telecaster rig, a Strymon El Capistan, a surf rider reverb, a Strymon Bigsky, a Boss RV5, a wren and cuff fuzz, and three Xotic boost pedals. so altogether i chose:
Epi Les Paul Classic, Blackstar Silverline 100, Boss TR2, Xotic RC Boost, JHS 3 series Delay coming in at £1390
Yeah, Epiphone's Alnico Classics with A5ssound great in my G400. Eventually I'd like to get an Epi LP Std+ to hear the Probuckers with A2s. I've a feeling I might like those more. Unfortunately, my budget had to take a detour into an old used PRS McCarty which sounded great and had a decent price.
Rather than buying a new guitar...just spend 200$ on a custom hand wound set of Humbuckers from HighOrderPickups.
First jam has a Mississippi Queen sort of vibe
With a bit of Who
What would you name the first jam?
oh and by the way it's the 2nd jam that sounds like Mountain's Mississippi Queen
@William Allison it'd call it "Rock Me All Night Long"
do you think it sounds good?
@@sakimiyu4169 yes i do
Both sweet rigs.
Sounds like DEF LEPPARD!!!! Without busting the bank
With all that knowledge you just put on the table I would love to see them try and tackle it wouldn’t you?
When someone picks up a white LP Custom and says "reminiscent of Justin Hawkins back in the day" and not "reminiscent of Randy Rhoads. Now I feel old.
i agree, but now i want The Darkness or Randy Rhoads BY busting
Rabea I don't understand why your going for classic rock rig and worrying about budget for pedals
Delay, fuzz, Tubescreamer, and wah are all classic sounds you'll hear on all kind of records from yesteryear
@@bigmoneygangster1498 Exactly, it's when all these sounds were first introduced, and they were heavily used by Page, Hendrix, Clapton, Joe Walsh, Leslie West, on and on etc. and etc. Even if you go back to the Beatles, they were using studio tricks to get a lot of effects like flanging, phase-shifting, etc. and people were using wahs from organs to get that sound in the '60s.
title says "without busting the bank"
I have to say I wrote this while they were choosing the gear and not after listening, to the final sound which I think is a great sound.
a more accurate take on the rigs of The Ultimate Classic Rock Rig would be...
Lead:
Epiphone SG Standard 61
Marshall Studio Vintage combo
EHX East River Drive
Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini
Dunlop GCB95 Wah
Fender Mirror Image Delay
Rhythm:
Fender Vintera 50's stratocaster
Fender Blues Junior
EHX Soul Food
Boss Super Chorus
Bass (which they didn't cover but is a huge part of the tone):
Fender Vintera 60's jazz bass
Ampeg BA-210 V2 bass combo
Andertons TV is very funny, just educational/informative enough and filled with strong personalities and a wide range of playing styles.......... I love watching! I buy a large percentage of my gear from the store and hope to continue to do so...... Just one thought though (And I mean no disrespect to the current presenters.) Female guitarists? Shouldn't there be a player or two on the team who show that guitar based obsession is not an entirely male thing???
Sound like Manic Street Preachers please (another white LP custom!)
Love that Gretsch thats been pulled out of its sleeve in the back at 6:22
that's the G2622 model
First two duet pieces reminiscent of - The Who, James Gang. Then Jimi in the middle bit. Finally Spirit.
for me i heard School of Rock and AC/DC in the first made up song (Rock Got No Reason/High Voltage)
Mountain in the 2nd one (Mississippi Queen)
probably Jimi Hendrix in the 3rd one (Voodoo Child Slight Return)
and Red Hot Chili Peppers on the last one (Under The Bridge)
You should do "Sound like sound like", an episode where you choose a rig for each other. Your goal is to be as close as possible as each others taste and to make him try the rig in the end.
With the same idea, you can do "sound like pedal show", "sound like chappers and the captain" and "sound like danish pete"... As long as the guys tries (and approve) the rig.
Aw man, i really wanted to hear the 'Sabbra Cadabra'!
It's like a Tony Iommi in a tiny box.
then check out the sound like black sabbath videos

Sound like Franck Zappa ?
Great ideas there and good to go for a Fender/Marshall contrast. Only one thing missing, two acoustics to do the obligatory acoustic set in the middle! Otherwise known as 'drummer wants a pint' bit.
Mississippi Queen I know what you mean!
Sound like the stone roses!!!!!!!!!
Marshall Jtm 30s are seen as a sleeper and, and can be had for four or five hundred bucks. They can deliver you tone as good as amps worth 4 times that. Plus mods are available.
Sound like Disturbed without busting the Bank. Pls
Great little Smashing Pumpkins esque tune there at the end. Not classic rock, per se, but sounded great. Overall, really good job nailing the sounds. Thanks guys.
what would you call that song at the end?

I like this "Sound like style/genre" idea - more of these please
i don't, it's not as fun as doing actual artists!
but hey it keeps my friend Saki occupied as she writes fitting song titles for them
We need a Sound like "Porcupine Tree"
The Caitlinbread Adineko was suggested to me by the engineer on my last recording session - I tried and it sounds incredible.
i disapprove personally cos i mainly associate the rhythm guitar setup with a stratocaster, the ultimate classic rock rig's rhythm guitarist rarely used a telecaster, the amp is a correct port of call considering they used fender amps though for pedals i'd probably get a chorus for clean tones too
Sound Like Megadeth!!
Its Brazzi I second this!
@@maxscardanelli6185 My man \m/. They could do the Friedman Menza lineup when they where a big happy Jackson family
It’s Matt trying not to laugh at how loud that guy in the shop is being😂
Who is this "ultimate classic rock rig" u speak of?
I'm not familiar with any of there work
they're a band who's been out since 1981, the songs played in the video are:
Rock Me All Night Long
Let It Loose
Shape Up And Shine
I Know What You Need
and the first two songs are off the album "One Foot in the Grave", the 3rd song is off the album "Live and Reloaded" and the 4th one is off the album "End of an Era" which was the last album they ever released before they all parted ways in 2016 following their drummer's passing
their guitarists were Justin Hawkins and Michael Duff but Justin left later after 1982
(of course i'm joking but whaddya think of the song titles i gave? the album and the guitarists i made up too)
@William Allison when Justin left they hired their new guitarist Wyatt Lindbeck
(once again this is a joke, don't take it literally)
I just realized your name is supposed to sound like "wanker"
also it's "THE ultimate classic rock rig" not "ultimate classic rock rig"
@@widowmaker5544 see now why name is what it is?
I was coming more from a comedic angle over grammatical accuracy, but point taken.
@@waynekerr8003 the thing is you technically weren't wrong calling them "ultimate classic rock rig" because the video was originally called "Ultimate Classic Rock Rig without busting the bank | Sound like" or smth like that, but then they renamed the video correctly.
Also that thing about your name wasn't with any hate or nuthin' it was more a Simpsons reference with the Bart Simpson prank phone calls to Moe's Tavern with names like "Mike Rotch" "Seymour Buttz" "Jacques Strap" etc.
15:36 Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head
Just in case somebody was also bothered not remembering which song that was from ;)
Reduce the budget due to inflation! We're all getting paid less! crying emoji.
Very very happy to be seeing a telecaster for classic rock rig
yeah, and while some may say "a telecaster for classic rock, really?" the answer is yes cos there are a few classic rock guitarists who used telecasters
Andy Summer, Pete Townsend, Joe Perry, The Edge, George Harrison, Keith Richards just to name a few.
Can we please get Offspring and/or Billy Talent without busting?
3:22 WHAT'S THAT GUITAR BEHIND BONAMASSA'S SIG? It looks like a mixture between an LP and a Firebird!
it's the Epiphone Lee Malia signature RD
the band Ghost used to use Gibson RD's a lot before they switched to Hagstrom Fantomen
love the vids, but you have to do sound like Neil Young by busting the bank, i dont think it can be done.

@@niamhsdad01 just watched it, that was a great powder finger, was missing that slight out of control sound which i think is always going to be the hard part to nail down.

@@ryanleone3007 yeah, hard to find a 53 les paul, a 60 firebird pick up, and god knows what old amp, and then get a usable sound with no pedals :)
Great video! Both are rocking rigs, but I’d bet if you really tried (I get that you built high quality rigs) you could get very similar tones from items that are even less expensive. I’m thinking Squier and less expensive Epiphone guitars coupled with Boss (which Matt mentioned) or perhaps Peavey amps and way less expensive pedals in between? ✌🏻🤔🎸
