    So thankful for this video. I’ve had back issues, sciatica, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease bulging disc. I first went to orthopedics and they sent me straight to physical therapy doing all the exercises you don’t recommend along with 100’s mg of gabapentin. It wasn’t helping and I was sent to pain management to receive injections which didn’t help either. My primary care sent me to rheumatology because my blood work showed possibly autoimmune since my ANA was positive. I then was diagnosed with osteoarthritis back and hands. I have a job sitting for around 50 hrs a week. I’m at a loss. Pain management is working on scheduling a nerve block. I will start this evening doing these exercises as tolerable. Sending prayers for healing everyone. We all want our life back.

    it was interesting to hear it could affect your foot and ankle. 3 Weeks ago I was in the ER with hip pain so bad I was in tears. I couldn't move my leg at all. Off and on for months prior I had light hip, foot and ankle pain on the same side. I bought a roman chair and have been doing back extensions, reversing and doing leg lifts then flipping over and doing sit ups with it. It seems to be helping.

    This was extremely informative!
    My situation started exactly 2 weeks ago today~ I woke up with a bit of a low backache, sat at my desk for a few hours and when I rose the real pain began ~ the pain is in my left side, at the very top of the pelvis, and goes into my hip, groin and down the side and front of my left leg, not going below the knee ~ extreme pain ~ complete numbness in my left thigh ~ laying down in certain positions gives me some relief, but the moment I stand up to go and walk, within 60 seconds the pain is back, excruciating and going into my hip and down the side/front of thigh. It is debilitating, I cannot walk for more than 1 minute, cannot sit in my desk chair or car. Have tried every pain reliever, rub, heat, cold, lidocaine, stretching, etc etc etc to no avail ~ i need my life back lol...i know that sciatica is typically in the back of the leg but mine is in the side and front of thigh ~ I am not sure but my educated guess is that this problem is self induced from sitting t my desk for too long without breaks and being generally very sedantary. Any advice would be SO appreciated as I cannot function at all. I have seen the chiropractor in the first week and he feels it is an SI issue and not disc, as I have no problem lifting my leg on that side. Help please~

    I recently discovered your videos after having had 2 weeks of very strong sciatic pain (unable to walk and pain in all positions). I had 3 osteopathy sessions which seemed to aggravate rather than relieve anything and doctor prescribed NSAID painkillers which did not touch the pain. I also tried some of the exercises that my osteopath and others recommended (and you warn against in this video) and can now understand why they weren't helping either.
    I have been doing your recommended exercises on your other videos for only two days now and have already had an improvement of about 20-30% I can now get pain free,. Walking is still bad after 2 minutes - but I gained that 2 mins! - and can sleep again. I now have some hope I can calm this acutely debilitating thing down, and more importantly a pathway to correcting back issues longterm . Thank you so much for your informative and very helpful videos!

    I had pain really bad in my front thigh. I got rid of it by doing the Carnivore Diet. I had a really bad heel spur and I learned about the Carnivore Diet. So I was just doing it to help me with my heel spur.
    For three months I only ate eggs in the morning and grass feed beef and eggs for dinner. It fixed my heel spur on the second day pain was gone but I had a weak heel and it needed to work out. Three months later still doing the Carnivore Diet one day I'm walking and my lower back is killing me and I can feel everything get lose. So I went into the doorway and pushed with my hands and lower back and now all my pain was gone.
    When I would walk it was every five steps I would get a shock then ten steps and so on. Now I might get one or two attacks.

    Thank you. After 6 to 12 months of sciatica and finding a million different ideas and opinions leading to total confusion, you've just pretty much summed it all up. There are heaps of bad advice videos online. Some of the excersises I just had to laugh at as the person demonstrating had clearly never had sciatica. Me: "You want me to do WHAT? Put left leg up round my ear and breath through my arse!" 😂😂😂. Dream on! I've had the prescription pills and the injection. Also a nerve ablation in my left sacroiliac joint. None of it really worked. I have two bearly touching slipped discs at L4 and L5 just as you described. I fell on my left buttock which probably did for the sacroiliac joint. Its all on the left. Interestingly, I found another great guy online who talks about how our bodies are not symmetrical. How the right is stronger than the left in everyone. He also talks about how the brain reacts and controls muscle tension depending on your dominant side of cognition. For example, a tense soas on the left is caused by lack of cognitive awareness on that side. A right dide cognitive dominance. The left soas is tense because the brain isnt certain of whats happening to the left and so that side of the body is in constant fight or flight mode. This tightness can distort joints over time, pulling them out of alignment. Solution: put your left molars together on someyhing like a wooden lolly stick and consciously feel your left heal on the ground. Result: left side cognition. Soas relaxes immediately. Tension released. Everyone's happy. I do believe the brain plays a major roll in sciatica, along side everything you are saying.

Subscribed to your healthy back booster programme and doing your exercises religiously. Still the numbness continues. I've life in a small town in New Zealand with limited resources. What would you recommend? Thank you

I was not told after mri that I have bulging disk , stenosis , degenerative disease in lumbar region. My question is why am I getting pain in my hamstrings that radiate to my feet where the outside of my feet feel bruised. I can barely walk and trying to get back to work. Siatica ?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  11 месяцев назад

      Hey Todd, this could absolutely be related to sciatica. It is very common for stenosis of the low back to create problems similar to sciatica. If the stenosis is pinching multiple nerve roots it may be causing all of the symptoms. It is also possible that the sciatic nerve is being pinched creating the same pain. These two instances are very similar in symptoms but can be treated in different ways. Here are 2 playlists that may be able to help with your symptoms in case you are interested in learning more:

Two weeks later, I had pain in my legs.. Four weeks later, my lower back began to hurt, as well.. more and more with each day.. I had an MRI, it showed I had multiple lumbar herniated discs, compressing the sciatic nerve.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey @TheReasonWeLearn! Great question! Generally speaking, with sciatica type pain the pain will likely be radiating down into the leg. While with sacroiliac joint pain, you are more likely to experience pain in the low back right around the location of the sacroiliac joint.

    • @TheReasonWeLearn
      @TheReasonWeLearn 10 месяцев назад

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy thanks for the reply! I have BOTH. It started in the SI join area, exactly where you pointed out the joint, and stupid me, I tried what has worked in the past when I've had that twinge, and rolled on a yoga roll, only WHOA it got immediately SO MUCH WORSE, holy hell, the pain was intense. Since then, the pain is still there, but also deep in the inside groin when I sit upright at anything more than flat, and it gets worse the closer to 90 degrees I sit. If I sit that way but stick my butt OUT, like a duck, it eases a bit. The rest of the pain is across the TOP of my right quad, and ends abruptly above my knee. It feels like a charly-horse cramp, deep deep ache. Walking and standing are BETTER than sitting, or lying down, Aleve doesn't touch the pain (allergic to Ibruprofen), and driving is the worst of all, which is a serious problem. But here's the thing...I can't sleep well, so I'm exhausted. Now even standing my legs (right one especially) feel weak and HEAVY, like I want so badly to sit down or lie down, but it hurts too much to do for more than a minute. I even switched to a standing desk yesterday b/c I can't function seated. Just today, my mid-back started aching a bit, not terrible, just TIRED, like too much gravity tired. Not sure if this matters, but I have a 3/4" difference between my legs, right leg that has the pain is the shorter one, this is b/c at ages 10 and 11, I fractured that femur (yes, twice in a row, 364 days apart, both freak equestrian accidents). This was in the 1970s, so no surgery, just traction and body cast, both times. Right knee has been hyper-extensive ever since, and I have ZERO tension in my PCL, so I stopped being able to run in college, chronic tendonitis if I did. Now I just walk, about 10K steps at a time, 3x/week, usually on a treadmill. I thought I was doing great :( Recently lost 18 lbs, back to the weight I was at 30 (I'm 57) but this pain is awful.

    Hi thank you so much! Again
    After my heel cortisone surgery , i ended up with a chronic pain from my heel shooting into my back of knee , front shin and back hamstring and sitting bone , and it was constant , i ended up walking with crutches
    So i had no idea what to do
    I went private to my osteopath who done shock wave treatment ( avoing my heel as he said he cant treat that the area straight after a surgery) which i understand.
    My whole left leg was flared up tight , woke up allot with throbbing pain between my sitting bone , to my knee my shin into my archillies and foot.
    After a few shockwave treatments i can now manage to walk with out crutches.
    However the same spots are still flaring up depending in what i do
    My main question is , do you think it could possibly be sciatic nerve damage and can it be fixed without surgery?
    Before i go back for more shickwave treatment is it a good thing or is there anything else you can recommend to ask my osteopath to check out properly ?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  10 месяцев назад

      Hey Colleen! That is an outstanding question! It can absolutely be related to sciatica! Your sciatic nerve branches off to your tibial nerve, which then branches off to your medial calcaneal nerve. This nerve wraps around the bottom of your heel. There are many techniques that can help if this is indeed a nerve pain. A common technique by osteopaths and physical therapists is to use nerve glides. These help the nerve move better throughout the body to help decrease irritation. We also have many other exercises and stretches on our channel that may be able to help with this condition as well. Here is a link to our sciatica playlist:

I've now developed weakness in my affected leg. My foot suddenly gives out on the inside causing me to lose my balance. I have fallen 5 times in the last 24 hours. I'm 77. Falling is NOT an option
    Right up until the middle of the night when this began I could stand straight up from an Asian squat. Now I have to use my hands, and even then I fall over. I'm frightened by these things that have never happened to me before.

    I was doing your exercises for bone on bone hip and I was improving greatly. My doctor however, wanted me to try therapy. My first session did immense damage and set me back to this day. She had me lay on my stomach, which I never do, plus she made me lay over a pillow under my stomach. Something popped in my back, it didn't hurt so I continued on. Hours later after going home the pain started. I have a spine full of arthritis. Now I'm doing your back exercises as well, it's painful but my pain seems to be improving. When I move a certain way, or bend to pick up something, I nearly scream the pain just jolts me. I was doing so good before and had confidence in being in decent shape for my vacation this fall. Now I'm not sure. I feel I may need a electric light weight wheelchair so I don't hold up everyone because I can't walk much. My gut told me to not do therapy... Wish I had followed it.
