I'm currently under treatment for this. I'd like your (and any other readers who have these symptoms) thoughts. A year ago I was walking and it felt like someone stabbed a knife in my left hip rear. Doc said it was sciatica but it seems more like SI as it didn't radiate. I was bed ridden for 2 weeks in pain. Shortly after my lower back started hurting. Now my lower back hurts bad, a little pain in the left hip but severe pain in the right hip, side of the thigh wrapping around the front to the knee cap. No numbness or lower leg issue. The little "hollow" spot people have on the side of their buttocks is very painful to press. Xrays showed nothing, waiting for doc to get and MRI. The right hip is more outside of the joint where the left is more behind the joint, so completely different symptoms yet both go into the lower back. It hurts to walk around but it hurts less to keep walking than to layback and relax then get up, that's murder until it loosens up.
I also have arthritis in my neck so it may be related.
any feed back is much appreciated. Thankyou

Very clear explanations. Thank Will. One question please, I have the area around my right ankle and inner shin side totally that has been numb for nearly two weeks. I went to the GP on day one of the numbness, and ever since he has kept saying me "that's probably just a sciatica, do some exercices and call me back in two weeks ". Seems to be much badder that what he thinks it is, right?

This suggestion i give to my mom and sis and aunts,
Standing long causes knee pain, varicose vein in leg, and back pain,
      So move kitchen on floor
In Villages they sit on floor and cook . Washing utensils is also by sitting on floor and do,
So unlike the western way, keep stove and cooking on ground .. and washing utensils also do by sitting on ground.

Thank you so much. I have the first four signs and have asked my GP to refer me to an orthopedic doctor for diagnosis, he said he would only refer me to physio for assessment. I said physios can't diagnose me and he said they can. The pain and severe pins and needles in my legs is much worse when I lie down and I'm struggling to get any sleep. I have DDD of L4 and L5 which was diagnosed by MRI 4 years before the onset of the lumbar pain and bilateral sciatica. I am 60 years old and this is my second bout of pain and bilateral sciatica. The first was two years ago. I have no idea what is causing this. I wanted to ask if you could suggest how I can sleep with less pain? The pillow under my knees makes the pain much worse as does the pillow between my knees on my side. I'm stuck as to what to do. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Will, I injured my back 32 days ago and, although the severe pain was gone 3 weeks ago, the numbness and weakness in my leg has not improved (right down to the outside base of the foot, and not able to raise onto tiptoe, unless standing on both legs - so perhaps less than 50% strength in outer calf).
I suggested an MRI to the Bupa GP at 1.5 weeks in, but she told me to just continue with the physio, which involved the Cobra stretches but was mainly acupuncture (which I couldn't see much benefit from).
I'm now worried that I've left it long enough for there to be permanent nerve damage. Should I get an MRI ASAP?
    Thanks, Michael

What about this type of sensation but shooting through the arm/hand

    • @wyh8793
      @wyh8793 10 месяцев назад

Dr Harlow is explaining the problems arising from the lower spine, the Lumbar Spine. From your description, it could be the same problems but coming from the upper regions of the spine. I'm not a Dr but I've read extensively about such issues and my 2 cents worth of opinion is that you may have a problem with your Cervical Spine (neck) which causes the same type of sensation but shooting through the arm/hand . I suggest you get it checked and diagnosed at the hospital immediately.

@@wyh8793 that’s what I was afraid of… I have already been seen had an mri and it shows I have a ruptured disc (L5) which is near the base of the spine. With the news you have shared I’m afraid I may really have an autoimmune condition. I see a rheumatologist on the 24th but it is evident other parts of my spine are troubled 😭😭. This whole ordeal has been frustrating. I now have arthritis in all of my joints. I never had any issues until after o got covid twice

  • @stud81

I have had terrible sciatica since doing one leg squats 7 weeks ago, when causing the injury I had most pain in my hip, for 6 weeks now had burning sensation in my left foot with shooting pains from foot into my big toe and fuzzy pins and needles, have some swelling on my hip also, trying to sleep at night is awful, MRI showed left sided disc bulge impinging on L5 S1 roots, can stand on top toes but not on my leg heel, been doing physio excersises for just over 2 weeks now and still not much improvement, how long will this last? Or could there be something else that's need missed from my diagnosis? I've had enough of this pain now and need it to go away it's getting me down.

PATIENCE is the key. Impatience is your worst enemy at this point in time. Depending on the severity of each injury, the recovery process may take a few weeks to a few months or even much longer. If getting a second or third opinion makes you feel better, just go for it. So long as you persevere with consistency and patience, you will get well eventually. Good luck!

I'm a lot better now but still have got weakness in my left leg into my foot due to nerve damage, hopefully this will improve over time if and when the nerve replenishes. Hopefully you will get sorted, I had to be very patient and doctors gave me Amitriptyline nerve block tablets which helped a lot once they got in my system.
