Couldn't be happier with my R/T(not plus). I actually didn't want a sunroof, so it worked out perfectly. Street only, so plenty of power. Just wanted a V8, and love the retro look.
@@apolloxv8820 not everyone is a streetlight racer. I dropped 10k in power mods and found that it just gave me unusable power for 98% of day to day living. If you drive like a normal human an rt will suffice for most people.
I love my R/T gets soo much attention and all around just a beautiful vehicle. I’ve actually raced some GTs and SS (older models) and my car matches them pretty well. I don’t need to be the fastest out there, just need some get up and some fun .
@Grant Harris the gts were a 2013 and 2016 the ss were a 12 and a 14, there aren’t many people around here who race tho I will say the cammed camaro beat me from a dig but I got him on the roll. The rest were fairly close both ways but I still won.
@Grant Harris the R/T is better to the ground then both of those cars. On paper they win cause they are faster of course, but it’s all according on who’s behind the wheel. I used to smoke people in my R/T all the time simply because I know how to drive.
Most people have stock scats though. Before you disagree. Keep in mind most people lease their vehicles, or turn around and trade them in after they’ve beaten them up for a couple of years. I could see some people doing some basic bolt ons, but nothing that requires pulling the motor.
@@dailydose8035 this is VERY accurate im missing the cam and probably one more bolt on but currently I'm pushing 440 (and to be honest I'm good, no sense pushing over 500 when I'm only gonna use 80hp in stop n go traffic most of the time lol)
Another good video. My son got a 2019 Scat Pack, which I cautiously drove and it had gobs of power, perhaps,ps too much for me at 74. A couple of months latter I got a 2019 R/T Plus and for me, it was a good choice. Price was not an issue, color and chrome wheels, filler cap and body color rear spoiler were important, I don’t like black on these parts. On the street, from a roll, the RT flies. I get 18 mpg in Stop and go, with emphasis on go and I love the car. RT is a good choice for average guys.
@ItachiTheSuperSaiyan yeah that dude is full of shit. No way 18, I’m getting 12.8-13.1 in stop and go. That’s going super easy on the fun pedal as well.
Got my RT this year brand new and enjoying it as a daily driver its perfect. The power is balanced and controllable but also has the fun factor. The stock active exhaust sound on RT is one of the best out there. Enjoy your Mopars all
RacerX I honestly thought u was crazy. Then I actually listened to u and u make a lot of sense. Rt are a lot of fun but I wouldn’t ever get rid of my scat
RacerX maybe u can give ideas on a tuner or someone that can tune the mopars. I wanting to do some more mods to my scat but u said in some of ur videos the mods that I want to do needs a tune.
as an R/T owner I was considering moving up to a scatpack or even better a hellcat. taking in consideration all the bullet points you brought up in this video, I now know the R/T is the better fit for my needs. this is a fun daily driver and with a few thousand extra I can get up there and compete if I wanted to with a healthy scatpack. overall cheaper even after modifications. I love my R/T
they all are right now, I almost bought a 2022 sxt plus for 41k until I realized I could find a CPO R/T with low mileage for less money. Every challenger trim no matter what right now is going for 40k minimum which is brutal.
I owned and enjoyed my R/T for years but I'm happy with my scat pack and not looking back. I'm thinking of making a video about my experience between the 2
I wish the 426 Hemi rumor for the 2020 Scat Packs was true. They could have made the 392 standard with a 426 as an option on the Scat Pack package. A 535 to 550 horsepower 426 Hemi would be a good point between the 392 and a Hellcat.
It was emissions issues. And you get into fuel mpg. When you start getting anywhere above 400-410 you will need to move to a big block platform. The engine mounting and front end would have to be redesigned. (Im not talking about stroking an engine out. Im talking base.) not a lot of people would buy those cars. At least for now.
Had a 2015 Challenger Scat Pack and traded it for a 2018 Challenger R/T. No regrets. My commute is mostly city, and could rarely take advantage of the 392. With the active exhaust on the 5.7's now, it sounds every bit as mean as the 6.4 at both idle and WOT. Terrific DD. As far as Smoke Show...a little too tame looking for me personally. My R/T is Destroyer Gray and I love it...gives the car a nice sinister look. I'm buying my 2018 out after lease this fall primarily because they dropped DG.
@@coreydennis6634 exactly! What kinda power did you get? My tuner dialed me in at 631rwhp with stock internals...wanted to go forged with a cam to go over 700 but i was already in at $11k for the whipple, install, tune, dyno and diablo sport trinity lol aint nothing fun cheap!
Thank you! I was going between both cars and you convinced me to get the RT .. The scat is so tempting but I’m sure I will have tons of fun with the RT
Just bought a 2012 Red Line Red RT PLUS 6 Speed with only 41,000 miles, led a pampered life, undercarriage is VERY clean and body and paint and interior is like New too! Chrome Clad 5 spoke wheels....and the TransAm or SRT Large scoop!! LOVE IT!! My 4th Challenger.
I agree with this video. I use to race my 70 Challenger R/T back in the day. It dyno'd at 410hp (in 1991) and that was a badge of honor back then. Now 400hp doesn't impress "racer guy" - but STILL, anything with over 300hp is a strong, daily street-driven car. In over 30 years of driving and racing muscle cars I can count on one hand how many times I've actually had a street light challenge. The R/T Challenger will satisfy 90% of those who buy it in bone stock trim. 9% will want to open up that exhaust (because they are quiet) and 1% can never be pleased.
@@ricky-sanchez ayeee👏🏾 I instantly get a tune and fuel injectors on any v8 I own so mileage idc gas is gonna burn because every v8 owner do maybe around 4+ pulls a day.
Im an Owner Of a Challenger R/T & This Car has Power, Sounds Mean & is Definitely a Beast & Sleeper. So Many People Talk Down About the R/T & they fail to Realize this is a Wonderful Muscle Car! Ive Been Modding my R/T & its a Head Turner for Sure. So Glad you Approached this Topic & Great Vid Racer X!👍
I have a rt 5.7 and I love it! I have a flowmaster cat back with x pipe intake and I knocked out the plastic piece in the head light to allow more forced air. Next is the peddle box and tuner bigger injectors and a mild supercharger done!
I totally agree with your assessment on he R/T. I have one that is loaded out as close to a Scat Pack but with 5.7 under the hood. The price difference could load an R/T real close to the options of a Scat. Ultimately, great job on the video and information provided.
I love my 2015 Challenger R/T Plus. I have a K&N CAI and put Flowmaster 40 mids with a rear rez delete. I'm super happy with it. I'm 44 years old, so hot rodding and burnouts on not my thing, but my car definitely has enough power to scare the shit out of me. I originally wanted a plum crazy purple one with black R/T side stripes, but couldn't find one, so I bought a black one and put plum crazy stripes on it. I grew up poor as dirt on a tobacco farm here in northern Kentucky and always wanted a really nice car. My R/T does me just fine. It's looks great, runs AWESOME, and will smoke the tires off if I want it to. The 5.7 is an EXCELLENT ENGINE.
You get more than just extra HP with the Scat Pack. You also get better brakes and better suspension. There are probably some other differences I'm overlooking. While I do agree the R/T is a great ride, I think the people who buy them do it for financial reasons. If they were buying it for gas mileage they would get the SXT (nothing weong with the SXT either). In reality, on the street, your getting the same gas mileage with a 5.7l or 6.4l. You only save noticeable money if you fill with 87. Too me, that's the only real advantage the R/T has over a SP, it cost less. As for mods, MOPAR is just expensive in general. You make it sound like you can pop a few mods on the R/T and you will have power like the SP, that is not the case.
Was feeling a little sad about not getting the scat pack. I bought the R/T and loving it! Thank you for showing it the love it deserves. It is a mighty fine ride. It sometimes gets overlooked with the scat pack, hell cat and the other toys. But I find it a solid and fun street car. As for modifications it is good to know there is room to run. Thank you for your video! I don’t feel sad anymore!
I love my 2013 RT, Miss Maxine. I live in a rural area and, since most of my driving is on the highway, I wanted something to get me from here to there with a quickness. She does not disappoint!!! I got her in 2016, with 14,000 miles on her. Now, with 93,000, she's still running like a scalded dog. Best daily ride I've ever had! Better mileage than my truck, and no engine trouble thus far.💖
I've owned both a Challenger R/T and a Scat Pack. The later had no traction with those skinny 245 tires and 470 pound feet if torque. Sold my Scat Pack after a few years. The R/T is the better choice as it launches better. Just for the record my Scat Pack wad getting 9.5 miles to the gallon in city driving as apposed to 13 with the 5.7 R/T. And only high test in the Scat Pack.
I wanted a scatpack but dealer markups were ridiculous near me. Most scatpacks were being sold for well over my price range because of the markups. I was lucky to find a 2019 rt at the end of last year for 25k and I’m in love with it
I’m eyeing a 2011 toxic orange r/t for 18, gonna try and talk dude down to 17 or maybe even 16.5 but it’s in mint condition and he has mods with it alr
I brought the exact same one on the let the other day and I'm obsessed with it. I had a GT prior to the upgrade and maaaaan I cant stop driving it. Been to the gas station probably 6 times since I purchased it on Tuesday and I pull up so proud haha.
Out of all the hoods available for these, what’s your favorite? Mine is those that you have. Just looks perfect. Reminds me of the scoop on my old 01 Z28 w/SS hood. Second place would be the one w/ that same scoop and w/ the extra heat extractors up front, third is the shaker hood, and fourth is the double opening, which is most common.
Not sure if I’m an exception to the rule but I went from a 2006 gold Chrysler 300c with the 5.7 to a torred 2017 392 shaker scat pack and my auto insurance didn’t change at all. I’m in Ohio.
One thing that could play a factor in it, is that the Scat Pack is still labeled an R/T to insurance companies. That's why a lot of people really liked the Scat over the SRT, because even though there were similar cars with drive train, they were labeled as an SRT and one as an R/T. The FUN without the hike in price... and insurance!
Your review makes a lot of sense!👍 Not what I was thinking when I saw the video title though..🤔 Just comes down to what the buyer wants, their driving experience level, and how they will be using their car.💯
I'm getting the scat pack. I've got the hemi in my truck. But the main reason is because the troopers can catch the R/T and not the scat pack. Though the prices are now different
i’m 16 and got my first care about 2 weeks ago and it was a rt challenger and let me tell you it runs amazing and thanks for all the vids on them bc your account was the main one i watched when deciding!
Traded my 13 RT 5.7 in for 15 RT Scat Pack 6.4 The power, torque and all out fun is exponentially increased in the SP. I wouldn’t give up my SP for anything.
Thanks Racer X. Love your content brother! I just bought an R/T Plus over here in Germany. I traded my Chrysler 300S V6 Alloy Edition for it. Looking to have some unrestricted fun here on the Autobahns here! Again, thanks buddy!
I honestly thought you were crazy as well, but, you did make valid points. I owned my Charger R/T for just over a year, put 20K miles on her and loved every minute of her. I have had my Scat for a year this month, put only 11K miles on her and have loved every minute of her. That being said, I wouldn't trade the Scat for the R/T but I ordered mine from the factory in the trim she is in with the Stars and Stripes edition. A couple of things to consider in your assessments, base trim to base trim, what would it cost to take the base R/T and mod it to equal the Scat? Would it be more than the 5K in the sticker or for less than 5K could you get the HP gains along with the suspension upgrades that you have with the Scat or would it cost you more? But overall, I can't say a negative thing about the R/T other than it sucked being governed at 134 and so far the Scat has hit 164 and was still wanting to go :) Great content as always Sir!
I would like to ask anyone if I can get some advice about my 2019 Challenger R/T 5.7L. My car has a little shake (like a miss) at the cold start. At first goes up to 1400k RPM, and after few seconds drops to about 900 RPM and this shakes happen. Also, when it's warm, it has a very slight hesitation when stepping on gas on getting power to pick up speed. The dealer keeps telling me that this is a normal for all HEMI engines, of course, I'm not satisfied with these answers. I read that if the Throttle Body is upgrades to 85mm, this would resolve the problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Awesome vid. Appreciate the R/T love as an owner myself. Used, with low miles, RTs typically cost $10k or so less. New, most RTs Scats have options and are often inflated. Easier to find a base RT than a Scat bc RTs are more plentiful as RacerX pointed out. And as a daily driver, is a Scat really worth the extra $$$ and operational costs? You're not using the extra power and handling capabilities very often.
@wayde philpot Great points! Personally, I'm not into enhancing the revenue (ticket's) of various jurisdictions, nor high insurance premiums. I bought my base model 2013 Challenger R/T w/6 speed in late 2012 for $28,500 out the door. It's my toy, not a daily driver. Liability insurance on my 2003 Trailblazer and full coverage on the Chally costs me about $750 annually. Avg fuel economy is 20-22, runs just fine on 87 oct gas but there are some more ponies on tap with 91-93 oct. Cruising at 55, 65, 70 mph gets 33, 28 & 27 mpg respectively. 5th & 6th gears are overdrive and at 70 in 6th, the engine is only turning 1650-1700 rpm's, which is one of the reasons the fuel economy is excellent. The R/T is fun to drive, doesn't break the bank, and is fully capable of keeping up in traffic or setting the pace, and can get you in as much trouble and more as you care to engage in. I don't do banzai charges or full throttle runs, burnouts or donuts, corner at the limits of adhesion, thrash the gearbox or otherwise abuse mine. I don't race and am beyond caring about such. I did that stuff in my youth and now am just enjoying the ride. The time honored definition of a muscle car is any car with at least 1 hp per 13# of body weight. The R/T comes in around 1:11.2 and even the SXT's are at the edge or just outside of 1:13. There's much more to enjoying a car than just putting the gas pedal on the floor. There's fast and faster and fast enough! The R/T is fast enough!
I'm a Ford guy through and through, but I'll be honest here, I really like the challenger. Not enough to give up my mustang though. I do think it's good to know your competition which is why I love your videos. Great job sir.
Love this comparison video Racer X! It's excellent! I'd be happy with either one! I find that the R/T overall offers a much better value, but if you've got the extra money to spend, then by all means the 392 SCAT is the one you want! At the end of the day, they both have a V8 as a power plant and they both sound sooo goood! While the SXT has it's merit, IMO the R/T is the minimum trim you want for a true muscle car.
I recently found your channel and I'm glad I did. You give such a clear and unbiased review/detail tutorial based on the data along with your experience. You have a way of sharing your knowledge without talking down to your audience. I'm someone who loves cars but am limited on my knowledge of them and the inner workings. I have a 2012 Charger R/T Plus AWD. I purchased a Tazer to force RWD (at times). I really enjoy learning from your videos and look forward to watching more. Thank you 🙏
I live in middle-east, here it is really hot and dusty, dodge recommend service every 3k miles for the 6.4 engine saying that it is a high performance engine while recommending 6k miles service for the 5.7, I daily drive my car for about 60-70 miles trip so 5.7 was the way to go for me
The R/T is a better NA platform to start from if you stay NA. The 392 is so optimized from the factory that any gains from traditional bolt ons are minimal ( and expensive ). The only way to get a Scatty to make more power is with a cam swap since the cam timing is so mild, and we all know how involved doing the job is on a Hemi. Might as.well port the heads since they have to come off and do springs and rocker shaft reinforcement. 100 hp and still streetable. Should be about 5000.00 to do both or so.
@@RacerX9 The 392 cars kinda grew on me after watching a guy flat crush a cop in a stick car ( Rusty Shackleford is the channel ). It was effortless but controllable, and he still had gas after the romp. A Hellcat wouldve had to stop for a splash of gas to keep going😂
I’ve always been a Chevy guy, never had anything but Chevy (I’m only 22) I’ve had 5 Chevys: 01 cavalier z24, 97 silverado (still have), 07 impala, and a 07 1/2 silverado (still have) looking into getting me my first sports car and I’ve actually been watching a lot of your videos because I’m looking into the 2020- or 2021 charger r/t mainly the Daytona now(was actually looking at other vehicles until I started watching your videos), hopefully will have one in the next couple weeks they’re just really hard to find near me and I’m in the process of selling the 07 1/2 silverado. @@brianholding187 You can say that about the Scat Pack and the Hellcat, and the Hellcat and the Redeye variant. Always something faster and objectively better but not everyone wants or has to spend that money to have a good experience
Very informative video, thumbs up! Love your energy and enthusiasm about cars at every trim level and how you can appreciate them even while owning a hellcat
I have a 2016 ram with the 5.7. It has a ton of power and I love it! I recently purchased a 2020 scatpack widebody and now the ram feels under powered. With that I can NEVER drive a hellcat or ill be down that rabbit hole in an instant!
I was looking at the R/T, with the options I wanted it came out to 48,500. For giggles and shits I optioned out the scat in the same way, it was only 49,000. The scat comes with a lot standard on it that are options you should consider on the R/T. For me 500 more was worth it for all of the extra I get with the scat.
I have had both of these vehicles and can tell you that if you do get the 5.7 if you can get it with a manual transmission you will get limited slip differential, no MDS In the car will feel like a whole lot more torque and more fun to drive. Put a cold air intake and exhaust you will be at 405 horsepower While getting 24 to 25 mpg on the highway. I actually think the 5.7 have a better sound as well. If you plan to race at all the scat pack will just be a tease you will always want the hellcat. If you can accept the car the way it is the scat pack is a great deal make sure you get the plus package.
I have wanted a dodge challenger for quite some time. Plan on getting one, but am not really a car enthusiast or such, just a normal working guy who happened to like the look and sound of the challenger. My question for the folks out there, is the r/t a good daily car? Coz i dont really race or mod cars, just for regular usage.
It does just fine as a daily, for sure. Just depends on what’s important to you. If you’re very concerned with fuel costs + insurance rates, then there are better options obviously. It’s not the most utilitarian car on the road. Other thing to consider is your climate. If you have to deal with snowy conditions much, the RWD isn’t ideal, but still totally doable. R/T might be a sweet spot for someone like you. If you aren’t overly concerned with performance/racing, and just like the car, the R/T is great. Not as expensive as Scats and up, but still a true V8 with plenty of punch.
The RT would be great for you then if you’re not into modifying honestly. Looks good I love the retro look personally and sounds good. Rides very comfy. Good luck finding one!
The R/T is great man. I've driven a scat before and for sure the tires will spin and will let the person you're racing with get ahead of you from zero. Coming from the GT challenger to the R/T is definitely worth it. Its still fast, not as fast as the scat pack but still worth it. Tires still spin but not as crazy like the scat pack.
I've got a 2015 R/T and I love it. Had it for over 2 yrs now and was seriously considering trading up to a 2018 scat pack. Still not really sure. I think I love my R/T too much
Nice video, I was thinking the R/T Scat Pack Wide Body, but after listening to you you are right for my budget the R/T @ 375 HP is the better deal...For my budget the GT and the RT are right there, but I'm a V8 guy So I believe the R/T it will be maybe with the Shaker package.
I believe the 5.7 is spiritual successor to the 383, which itself was a heck of an engine. And like you mentioned, a few tweaks and you could win a stop light Grand Prix over a 392 (the full 1320 would be a different story). As always, thank you and stay safe, Chuck.
I respect the fact that you can honestly rate these cars and be fair to both sides. I had that same dilemma 2 months ago to upgrade my GT challenger to a scatpack or r/t I thought no brainer the Scatpack but if I saw this video back then I would’ve put more thought into the R/t! Anyway keep pumping out those videos X it’s much appreciated!
You’re right with the RT being entry level and price. Have had a couple of RT chargers as my police vehicle. Just picked up my first scat pack and the two can’t compare. But RT is a lot of fun and has plenty of power and a great sound.
Great video, I'm going to pick up a Durango R/T. The last time I drove a Dodge was during the 80's in High School, it was a 67 Dart with a Slant Six, man that was so much fun though, lmao.
I love my Dodge Charger R/T. It’s just enough power for me right now. And it sounds great! I have a friend who owns a scat pack and my R/T sounds much better than hers. Maybe one day I’ll upgrade to a scat but for now I love my R/T. It’s perfect.
Funny you say that...I totally agree. I had a Scat Pack for three years and thought it sounded great. But traded it for an '18 R/T to lower my payments, and I thought it sounded more wicked the minute I drove it off the dealer lot. Wasn't expecting that, but love it. Perfect DD...smoother idle and requires less octane.
I really appreciate the RT love you showed in the video. I always get asked why didnt you get a scat pack it's much quicker and had more torque and I tell them I would love to get one but I know insurance would eat me alive. I love my RT and I plan to get a scat pack in the future but plz keep up the good videos.
Scats best bang for your buck! Hands down. Also still wears the R/T badge which I love but can be confusing to some that don’t know why when it’s powered by a 6.4/392!... Either way, both beasts and great cars. Don’t sleep on the 5.7 cause a lot of people do and end up getting their feelings hurt.. awesome review.
Awesome video, I truly believe the 392 was made for the person who doesn't want to add power an enjoy the 400+. Loved my RT could have added power, but pockets would run thin if things go sideways building.
I wanted the Widebody Scatpack Charger, Hellraisin with the red interior. But man... I could do so much with that extra money each month. It’s hard to commit lol 😂
Thank you for this video. Ik I'm late to the party watching it but I'm stuck between a R/T and Scatpack at the moment. I'm glad to know even if I can't find a scat pack it will still be ok and I can always mod r/t
Randall Harrison it’s a tough call. I haven’t been able to find any dealers with an RT in stock close enough to me to test drive. So I’ve only tested the scat pack. I have a challenger GT awd now so it will be quite an upgrade either way.
No matter what you get you will definitely love it. I drive a 19 RT and definitely is fun to drive on the streets coming from a Challenger GT. I've driven the scat and it definitely burns rubber from zero. Don't expect to will all the time racing in the streets with the RT. You will win some and lose some. But it can put up a fight like what Racer X said. If you're not into racing, the RT is definitely worth it. Great sound and still fast. Maybe not as fast as the scat pack but definitely worth it.
I love the fact that you give credit to other options for people to buy. There are so many people who buy much more car than they need. They can't afford the upkeep, insurance , etc, for the car. A lot of these people are the ones who wreck the cars because it's too much HP for them. I bought an RT Plus in 2012 because I drove it daily to work. It provides more HP than an SXT, yet insurance was a lot less than an SRT8. I once had a friend who spent a fortune building a very fast car, but never drove it, too dangerous in the rain, used too much gas, uncomfortable. Meanwhile I drove the snot out of my Mustang GT with less HP that was suited for daily driving yet fun to drive.

Most people have stock scats though. Before you disagree. Keep in mind most people lease their vehicles, or turn around and trade them in after they’ve beaten them up for a couple of years. I could see some people doing some basic bolt ons, but nothing that requires pulling the motor.

You also have to remember that the 345 hemi has a low redline which will be a penalty in hp. Thats why it has more torque than hp
Yeah I say the same thing . Should of built it with 400 HP
Steve Aloia they should’ve made the gt the 5.7 and the RT the 6.1
@@TyBrimmB 😂😂😜
@biggshig they're going to rise the price either way even if they didnt add 15 hp
I have an r/t so showing some r/t love finally is so awesome
For sure Tom
how much u pay in insurance
How much are the car payments?
Another good video. My son got a 2019 Scat Pack, which I cautiously drove and it had gobs of power, perhaps,ps too much for me at 74. A couple of months latter I got a 2019 R/T Plus and for me, it was a good choice. Price was not an issue, color and chrome wheels, filler cap and body color rear spoiler were important, I don’t like black on these parts. On the street, from a roll, the RT flies. I get 18 mpg in Stop and go, with emphasis on go and I love the car. RT is a good choice for average guys.
Sounds like it works great for you 👍
18 mpg! I'm now in sold on the r/t, even though the scat pack fully loaded is only a few thousand dollars more.
18 mpg? Man I’m definitely more Interested in the r/t I have a slow 4.7 ram and that thing gets me 11.5 mpg
I say the RT is too powerful for the average joe
@ItachiTheSuperSaiyan yeah that dude is full of shit. No way 18, I’m getting 12.8-13.1 in stop and go. That’s going super easy on the fun pedal as well.
Got my RT this year brand new and enjoying it as a daily driver its perfect. The power is balanced and controllable but also has the fun factor. The stock active exhaust sound on RT is one of the best out there. Enjoy your Mopars all
Throw some Vibrants 1794s on it
RacerX I honestly thought u was crazy. Then I actually listened to u and u make a lot of sense. Rt are a lot of fun but I wouldn’t ever get rid of my scat
LOL noone ever said I wasn't crazy lol
RacerX maybe u can give ideas on a tuner or someone that can tune the mopars. I wanting to do some more mods to my scat but u said in some of ur videos the mods that I want to do needs a tune.
I agree. Scat pack Baby!! LOL
Word
as an R/T owner I was considering moving up to a scatpack or even better a hellcat. taking in consideration all the bullet points you brought up in this video, I now know the R/T is the better fit for my needs. this is a fun daily driver and with a few thousand extra I can get up there and compete if I wanted to with a healthy scatpack. overall cheaper even after modifications. I love my R/T
It's amazing to hear the MSRP on the Scat pack & the RT because those vehicles are being severely marked up at most Dodge Dealerships
they all are right now, I almost bought a 2022 sxt plus for 41k until I realized I could find a CPO R/T with low mileage for less money. Every challenger trim no matter what right now is going for 40k minimum which is brutal.
sad, can't afford a car these days
I owned and enjoyed my R/T for years but I'm happy with my scat pack and not looking back. I'm thinking of making a video about my experience between the 2
I wish the 426 Hemi rumor for the 2020 Scat Packs was true. They could have made the 392 standard with a 426 as an option on the Scat Pack package. A 535 to 550 horsepower 426 Hemi would be a good point between the 392 and a Hellcat.
I would love to see an aluminum 426 👍
you want in between scat pack and hell cat look into a 1320
It was emissions issues. And you get into fuel mpg. When you start getting anywhere above 400-410 you will need to move to a big block platform. The engine mounting and front end would have to be redesigned. (Im not talking about stroking an engine out. Im talking base.) not a lot of people would buy those cars. At least for now.
Ragingbull340 it would definitely be cool to see it in a truck and then a bunch of aftermarket people can make use of them in classics.
@@porteneur1 The 1320 is a Scat Pack 392. The 1320 should have had a 426 Hemi in the 535-550 horse range.
Great vid Racer X , after owning a Scat it would be hard to go to a RT I’ve been spoiled way too long lol . Cheers
Yes it can be tough going down in power.. the 6.4 does tend to mess with your senses a bit
RT is good for someone who wants a fun daily, a scatpack is for someone who wants a fun toy
Certainly one way to look at it 👍
Well....not only did i daily a scat pack....i also threw a whipple on it. Made my 100mi round trip commute to work fun
Same here brother. Slapped a ProCharger on mine. It’s a daily. Smiles Per Gallon is what I say.
My Scat Charger is a Hella Fun Daily.IJS
I’ll never get an R/T without scat pack and wide body... I prefer to expend the extra money it really worth it
I plan on getting the widebody scat. It's just something about them 305s
I know you don't care about gas mileage, but the r/t is something to consider. You will secretly think about it everytime your at the pump.
@@ricky-sanchez I have 3 cars bro Idc about the pump 😂 Never get a v8 if you don't have a second vehicle.

Great review, I just bought a 2020 Challenger RT in Hellraisin and all of your points are well taken!
Great video RacerX. Thanks for giving the R/T some love. I love my 5.7 Daytona.
For sure Eric
I’m looking at the same one right now. If you don’t mind what year? How much was it?
Eric Brito rt Daytona’s range from 28-33 in Washington wit that price I’d save an extra 3000 for a scat
I’m in LA. There’s two 5.7 Daytona 47k msrp for 43k at two different dealers. Some scats with minimal packages cost the same. WBs are 48k to 60k.

Agree
I have a rt 5.7 and I love it! I have a flowmaster cat back with x pipe intake and I knocked out the plastic piece in the head light to allow more forced air. Next is the peddle box and tuner bigger injectors and a mild supercharger done!
I totally agree with your assessment on he R/T. I have one that is loaded out as close to a Scat Pack but with 5.7 under the hood. The price difference could load an R/T real close to the options of a Scat. Ultimately, great job on the video and information provided.
Thank you Marc
It’s cheaper it has a lot of torque and sounds great I love my choice but I would be lying to say I wouldn’t prefer the scat pack lol
I don't think your alone in that thought lol
Was feeling a little sad about not getting the scat pack. I bought the R/T and loving it! Thank you for showing it the love it deserves. It is a mighty fine ride. It sometimes gets overlooked with the scat pack, hell cat and the other toys. But I find it a solid and fun street car. As for modifications it is good to know there is room to run. Thank you for your video! I don’t feel sad anymore!
I just got a 2017 R/T about 2 months ago. It's my first V8 and with the 6 speed manual I can really feel the power in the 5.7 Hemi.
Can you please do a video on it? A speed test
How much u put down on that 2017 RT
Great video Racer X loved my RT when I had it have a Scat Pack now.
You have had the pleasure of experiencing both.. nice
Thank you for giving the 5.7 crew some spotlight!💪🏽
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
You can still spin tires in a 5.7, I do in my 300c even with nitto's on it
R/T if you're going to daily the car. Scatpack if its a dedicated track/car meet car
I was lucky to find a 2019 rt at the end of last year for 25k and I’m in love with it
Facts
I’m eyeing a 2011 toxic orange r/t for 18, gonna try and talk dude down to 17 or maybe even 16.5 but it’s in mint condition and he has mods with it alr
I brought the exact same one on the let the other day and I'm obsessed with it. I had a GT prior to the upgrade and maaaaan I cant stop driving it. Been to the gas station probably 6 times since I purchased it on Tuesday and I pull up so proud haha.
Nice fair evaluation, Thank You RacerX! David
How you did well .. typically it goes up a bit with the larger engine
RacerX I figured the same. Plus it’s red. Shout out to Allstate for keeping it low. Might help that I have a 20 yr perfect driving record🤷🏼♂️
mine only went up 40 bucks going from a sxt to a scat 1320 :)
Very sound and concise analysis. Thanks.
Your review makes a lot of sense!👍 Not what I was thinking when I saw the video title though..🤔 Just comes down to what the buyer wants, their driving experience level, and how they will be using their car.💯
Yes... agreed. Different people with different needs and different tastes
Every video I watch of you gets me closer to purchasing one of these beast
I'm getting the scat pack. I've got the hemi in my truck. But the main reason is because the troopers can catch the R/T and not the scat pack. Though the prices are now different
i’m 16 and got my first care about 2 weeks ago and it was a rt challenger and let me tell you it runs amazing and thanks for all the vids on them bc your account was the main one i watched when deciding!

Traded my 13 RT 5.7 in for 15 RT Scat Pack 6.4 The power, torque and all out fun is exponentially increased in the SP. I wouldn’t give up my SP for anything.
Bro do you have any videos?? I need the tipping edge to go from R/T to scat pack

Thank you very much for this... Your points have convinced to get an R/T instead of the R/T scat pack.
Both are great .. you can’t go wrong with either one 👍
Trying to get a manual RT. Never owned a muscle car or even a rwd car so I think it's a good starting point
We make noise like a scat. We turn heads like a scat R/T 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I have the 2020 shaker Go Mango R/T. 5.7 very happy with it 😊 thanks for the information Racer X
That's what's great about this country, you can buy whatever the hell you want to whether you need it or not!
All great points Wayde
I love my 2020 rt I drive alot I can't afford to feed a 6.4...my 5.7 is good on gas and thr book says 87 gas is ok
@wayde philpot
Great points!
Where are you get a rt for 10k ?
You always make great videos! Keep up the good work..
Texas is my favourite place! That's great to know! I love all your reviews! Take care & God bless you!

I live in middle-east, here it is really hot and dusty, dodge recommend service every 3k miles for the 6.4 engine saying that it is a high performance engine while recommending 6k miles service for the 5.7, I daily drive my car for about 60-70 miles trip so 5.7 was the way to go for me
Great choice 💯 Take care of that gem challengers are one of a kind
The R/T is a better NA platform to start from if you stay NA. The 392 is so optimized from the factory that any gains from traditional bolt ons are minimal ( and expensive ). The only way to get a Scatty to make more power is with a cam swap since the cam timing is so mild, and we all know how involved doing the job is on a Hemi. Might as.well port the heads since they have to come off and do springs and rocker shaft reinforcement. 100 hp and still streetable. Should be about 5000.00 to do both or so.
Perfect assessment my friend.. good stuff

I have a 2016 ram with the 5.7. It has a ton of power and I love it! I recently purchased a 2020 scatpack widebody and now the ram feels under powered. With that I can NEVER drive a hellcat or ill be down that rabbit hole in an instant!
Dodge always listed the scat 5000 over the rt , and when you want to make a deal find out the scat is close to 10000 over 🤔
Pretty much, dealer markup is a bitch
I know this dude since 10k sub , great job Paul
Thank you my friend
You've hurt my ScatPacks feelings.
I just bought a 20-20 RT it did make a little more sense on gas it still has a little punch and insurance cost multiple reasons i love it

I’m was concerned about buying an R/T but u help me a lot, thanks 👌🏼🎉
The R/T is great man. I've driven a scat before and for sure the tires will spin and will let the person you're racing with get ahead of you from zero. Coming from the GT challenger to the R/T is definitely worth it. Its still fast, not as fast as the scat pack but still worth it. Tires still spin but not as crazy like the scat pack.
RT is a great choice trust me. Can’t go wrong with it
I've got a 2015 R/T and I love it. Had it for over 2 yrs now and was seriously considering trading up to a 2018 scat pack. Still not really sure. I think I love my R/T too much
Nice video, I was thinking the R/T Scat Pack Wide Body, but after listening to you you are right for my budget the R/T @ 375 HP is the better deal...For my budget the GT and the RT are right there, but I'm a V8 guy So I believe the R/T it will be maybe with the Shaker package.
couple years ago you convinced me I got a 2011 R/T Manual .Talk about a fun car to drive ! Thanks, X
I believe the 5.7 is spiritual successor to the 383, which itself was a heck of an engine. And like you mentioned, a few tweaks and you could win a stop light Grand Prix over a 392 (the full 1320 would be a different story). As always, thank you and stay safe, Chuck.
Good point Chuck.. much appreciated brother
Put the Scat in 2nd gear when at the light and it’s leaving everything except a Tesla
But RT is a lot of fun and has plenty of power and a great sound.
you ever had someone do the dash and try to beat you in a pursuit?
RT does sound better especially if you get a mid muffler delete to it 💪🏽💪🏽
Hey x.... Just bought an r t manual 6 speed (375 hp)... boy what fun, anyway great vid and it was right on time... good info
Good stuff brother
I really appreciate the RT love you showed in the video. I always get asked why didnt you get a scat pack it's much quicker and had more torque and I tell them I would love to get one but I know insurance would eat me alive. I love my RT and I plan to get a scat pack in the future but plz keep up the good videos.
RT Gang 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Scats best bang for your buck! Hands down. Also still wears the R/T badge which I love but can be confusing to some that don’t know why when it’s powered by a 6.4/392!... Either way, both beasts and great cars. Don’t sleep on the 5.7 cause a lot of people do and end up getting their feelings hurt.. awesome review.
Awesome video, I truly believe the 392 was made for the person who doesn't want to add power an enjoy the 400+. Loved my RT could have added power, but pockets would run thin if things go sideways building.
This is very true
Had a 2011 charger rt which I loved and now have the challenger scat pack widebody. Don't think I can go back to an rt even though it was a great car
I’ve been looking for a scat pack...this is making me seriously consider an RT
I have a charger r/t and I love it. Bone stock, it's still a blast to drive.
Randall Harrison it’s a tough call. I haven’t been able to find any dealers with an RT in stock close enough to me to test drive. So I’ve only tested the scat pack. I have a challenger GT awd now so it will be quite an upgrade either way.
@@sarahmancini3525 I was fortunate to find mine with low miles (2019) right before the used car market surged. Got it for 25k.
Don’t get the scat pack you won’t regret it
No matter what you get you will definitely love it.
Racer X, can you do a comparison like this for the RT Shaker vs the RT?
I have a rt sport mode with pedal commander sport plus
I just ordered a Go Mango R/T shaker today! My first MOPAR. It’s getting the white R/T stripe at the dealer.
How do you like it? I’m thinking of buying a 2013 Challenger 5.7 automatic.
