Coming from someone who's owned both... I literally just upgraded from an SXT to an RT with the STP a few months ago after having the SXT for about 3 years. Even after getting the V8, I'm still an advocate for the V6 depending on what you want out of it. The V6 does have a good amount of power for the average daily driver and it looks great. I got so many compliments on the road when I had mine. Gas mileage was great. I used mine for the most part driving 50 miles a day to work. Even still when I stayed off the gas, I'd end up with around 29-30 highway mpg and about 20mpg on the street. I even took it to the track a few times. I will say that from a dig, especially in the 1/8th mile, you'll pull on an RT because the SXT is a few hundred pounds lighter and you hook better but once that V8 torque kicks in, it's gap city. lol. Stock, I has able to hit 14.5 quarter mile with a 5.8 0-60 time with the SXT. When I modded and 91 octane tuned mine(just bolt ons and exhaust), I was at 13.9 quarter mile at 5.2 seconds. With that said, the 5.7 is much different. First off the exhaust note is just beautiful and the increased torque makes a hell of a difference. It still has a very smooth ride but you don't feel that sort of laggy feel that the V6 has...when you press the gas, you're gone. You don't realize it until you sit behind the wheel of the RT. Alot of the time, I have to feather the pedal otherwise, my wheels chirp from a stop like crazy...which is why I said that the SXT will take an RT from a dig. MPG on the highway is usually around 27 if I'm taking it easy and on the street around 18-20. My best stock 0-60 was 4.7 seconds. I've taken the RT to the track as well. After adding the Hellcat airbox and high flow filter, exhaust and Hemifever 87 octane tune (because premium is getting expensive), I'm down to 4.4 seconds and with a 13.4 quarter mile. Sorry for the lengthy post. I hope that anyone debating on getting the 3.6 or the 5.7 reads this. There is a lot of enjoyment to be had from the V6. If it's your first car, first entry into Mopar or just a daily driver you won't be disappointed. Just try not to listen to the dickheads that say the V8 is better JUST because it's a V8. The Hemi is great but everyone might not want that at that point.
I got my 2019 SXT 3 months ago and I love it. The V6 offers everything you need in a sports car smooth ride and plenty of space. I don’t feel the need to upgrade anytime soon
Interestingly, many Chally owners feel compelled to change the exhaust system on their V8 models. I like my 2013 R/T exhaust note just like it came bone stock.
the RT has no AWD for us in the north, who drive in the snow (Upstate NY here) ill stick with my GT. i can make it sound better if i wanted to but idc about that.
Yeah bruh, don't get me wrong this was a great video but come on it's a challenger.. my opinion the v6 is always just a half step when challenger and hemi goes together like meat and bbq.. just screams American muscle 🤤
Just bought an SXT with the 3.6 V6.. Not only was it more affordable than the R/T an above, it is obviously more fuel cost efficient. It is my daily driver. I am not a super car/muscle car "enthusiast" either, but have ALWAYS thought the Challenger/Charger body styles new and old have always look INCREDIBLE and MEAN! It is a fun car to drive without draining the bank account in monthly payments and fuel costs. Highly recommend.
I own a 2019 SXT with the black out package. With the tinted windows, it's sick. I would love an RT or something beyond that, but I love the challenger and I am very happy with the V6. To each their own!
i have the same car including the tint. mine is granite so its all dark and i swapped the chrome lug nuts for black. for $30 its a great mod. these cars look great and where i live anything more then the V6 would be wasted as there is always traffic.
V6 are nice but I only lasted 1 months in mine before I traded for an RT 5.7 Felt like I was driving a fake muscle car with the V6 until I upgrade and got the muscle to match the look.
@Nate Challenger Days!! Got a 2019 SXT Challenger Blacktop Ed in indiglow blue for less than $25,000 new. The V6 made sense, given my other is a C6 corvette.. and going from one to the other is near perfection.
Finally something me and my SXT can relate to, thanks for showing some love to the V6 guys --Edit: I seemed to have caused a cylinder war, just want everyone to know thank you for the replies but I prefer the V6 for my own reasons, no hate to the V8 community!
@@faridgadimov5955 Only because they're around people who make them feel like the V6 is shit (which it isn't). Some people are fine with what they have...some people will upgrade when they want to upgrade. This is coming from someone who had an SXT at one point. If you're happy with what you have, be happy man. The SXT isn't a bad car by any means.
@@Fade2BlackSS v6 definitely have good enough power to have fun.my dad own 2019 challenger rt 5.7 v8 and lot of people say should of get 6.4.you right if you enjoy what you have this most important think.I have Cadillac escalade esv and people still talk shit like you should of buy Lexus lx570 😂
Take the panels off and remove the sound dampening foam before it starts to rust on you like mine did. Save it while it's still fairly new, spend the dough if you plan on keeping it for years. Really don't want to sell mine... *sigh*
Wow a female did you really have to add that just to get attention lmao. Hey guys I’m a Male i own a Demon and it’s a monster if you don’t have one you don’t know what power is.
I had a 2016 sxt, no complaints at the time. I got a scat pack 2018 charger afterwards. Didn’t like the curve that it had to it so I sold it. bought a white Rt 2021 and I love it. I have the fuel flexibility that I didn’t have on the scat pack as well. Never going back to a V6!!!
The challenger will be my first car purchase that I can be proud of. The Sxt or GT may be all the muscle I can afford right now as a recent college grad, but It gives me joy to see so many supportive Challenger owners from all engine levels!
My first non V8 car in 50 years - A SXT with the track Pack option, ZF 8 Speed Transmission ( bigger brakes, 3.07 posi rear and stiffer suspension) I get 23 mpg and this car is fast, It waits for no body, I have let a couple of my friends drive it. They all thought it was a V8. I don't race it, It has great passing power on the highway and It has great pickup off the line. I ordered the can and then worried for 3 months that I would be disappointed for not ordering a V8. I am totally satisfied.
Glad you’re satisfied man! I’m definitely one for the V8’s but these modern V6 engines are plenty fast. Don’t let anyone trash talk your car... if you love it, that’s all that matters.
If you want a faster V6, try a 2005 SRT6 Chrysler Crossfire. It zings as built. With a few add-0ns it will turn in the 11s in the quarter miles. Not bad for a "six".
Jesse Deck fr tho 😂 honestly it’s best to not touch the exhaust on those v6’s. Stock exhaust sounds the best but some v6 owners just want sound so they mid muffler delete or god forbid straight pipe these v6 challengers. If you wanted sound then just spend the extra 4 grand and get a slightly used v8 🤷♂️. It’s just my opinion but you’re lying to yourself if you think you could mod a v6 charger/challenger exhaust to make it sound better than stock.
I too have a 2013 R/T, base model, Bright White, 6 speed. Bought it new in Nov '12 for $28,500 out the door. It is my "toy". Bought it as a retirement gift to myself. Love it and have no complaints! I don't thrash or abuse it. It has enough power to be fun to drive and I don't have to ever nail the throttle hard for power. Furthermore, it is very insurable at $65 mo for full coverage. For those that are concerned for fuel economy, I live in the country so my mileage is affected by a better balance between country and city, since I don't spend a lot of time in the city. I get a combined figure averaging 21-22 mpg. I have conducted fuel economy tests and these are my figures: Cruising on the highway @ 70 = 27 mpg, @65 = 28 mpg, @55 = 33 mpg. Engine rpm's at 70 mph in 6th gear = 1650-1700 rpms! I spent 3-4 months before purchase, just reflecting on what I was sure I wanted and I am very happy with mine. I was a Mustang/Cougar fan for decades, hopping them up and even building engines, but I always loved the looks of the '70 Challenger R/T.
@@toddlehman1 @Craig Àgreed! Back in the old days I think, there I was a 318 engine and also possibly a slant 6 available in the Challenger. Today the base engine is the V6, a far more powerful engine that can produce 0-60 times of 6 sec. That is quite decent performance that no one needs to make any apology for.
Thanks for giving the v6 some good words. I love the look and gas saving on it. I'm not a race car driver and I'm not into wasting money on tickets. The day I got a chally I see more cops then I've ever seen in my life. So I'm slow and low with 22s.
I think the largest issue with the SXT and GT are that people think they are slow, and I think the reason is because the original 2009 Challenger SE with the 3.5l V6 was not a fast car (I won't say it's slow, but it's for sure not fast) and people still think of those cars when they think V6 Challenger. The SXT runs mid 14 second 1/4 miles, that's not bad for $30K and 4000lbs. Sure there is a Japanese V6 sedan that is a bit faster, but my Scat Pack is faster than those, so there is always a faster car. The SXT/GT is fast enough IMO. For a DD they are great cars.
Facts, the older model SE's were pretty bad. I think they only made around 240hp or something like that. The newer ones with the A8 and 3.07 gearing aren't bad at all. V6 muscle cars just get a bad rep all around though. Camaro and Mustang guys get it too.
I have a 2016 SXT, added a couple little mods and it really made a difference. Cold air intake and a Throttle response controller. I drive an hour each way to work, getting an average of 27 miles per gallon. Then when I want to play, just switch the throttle response controller to sport+ mode and she moves right out! Best of both worlds.
I did the same thing to mine… and added a rear muffler delete and exchanged the mid-mufflers with some Dynomax mini-bullets …. Just got a throttle response controller tho… did it throw any codes or is your throttle response good?
@@MiniRhyno The time will be the exact same as before, the only difference it makes is how long it takes for the vehicle to actually start accelerating. It FEELS nicer, which is the main selling point, and improves reaction time if you're on the strip instead of preemptively stomping the gas so it drives on green. Also just buying a Z Automotive TaZer and enabling sport mode does pretty much the exact same thing, my throttle response was very good in factory form
After owning my V6 Chrysler 300 S for a year, I can confidently say I'd opt for the V6 every time. Currently pushing 349hp and 290lbs/ft with: 91 custom dyno tune, AFE Power intake, custom tube making use of the charger/challenger ram air hole in the airbox, ported hemi throttle body, PUG lower intake manifold, 8-hole fuel injectors from FWD Pentastars (atomizes better, unproven gains though), freer flowing dual exhaust using 2 27" glass packs and 2 12" vibrant resonators (for once this actually sounds good), and I swapped the rear end from a Scat Pack so I have a 3.09 LSD and respective axles. She scoots. I'm not even done yet! I can't wait to finish my list and get re-tuned and hit a drag strip/track, but what's next on the list is an Unorthodox Racing lightweight crank pulley that unfortunately is rarely available but makes a decent difference, alternator pulley as well but that's bottom of the list as it's expensive for maybe 1hp and 1-2lbs torque, high discharge ignition coils, bigger brakes cuz those are still stock for some reason, and eventually a supercharger. Likely RIPP, possibly Sprintex, undecided and it's at least 1-2 years away. As the list stands, without the super charger, I'm hoping for at MAX 370hp and 310lbs/ft. Each mod should scale the effectiveness of those before it, so that's my goal. I'm also ready to accept 360hp and 300lbs/ft. Supercharger WILL make my ultimate power goal, no higher than 480whp. I can't remember my torque limit, but the engine is strong however the transmission is the weakest link. I know of a youtuber that's broken 2 going higher than that. I know it was in the mid to high 500's but I'm playing it safe. Moral of the story is I get 31mpg and hurt people's feelings at the same time.
I’m new to the car game and just got a dodge challenger 2023. I want to upgrade but don’t know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated you guys seem to know y’all’s shit lol
We drove both, but chose the SXT. Don't get me wrong, some days I wish I would have bought the RT, but the biggest determining factor was the noise. The Hemi was so loud cruising down the highway that it impacted radio sound and the ability to have a conversation with each other. The SXT is just nicer for a couple hour cruise.
Sorry bro but this ain’t accurate, I have the 5.7 hemi and its not too loud in the slightest. Even with a muffler delete when your cruising you don’t hear it. When you step on it then you have a different story haha. I’ve driven many people around in it and I get nothing but compliments about the car lol. No one ever mentioned it to be too loud and I’ve had many great conversations on the highway with it lol.
Thanks for showing some love! I got an '18 SXT Chally and I love it to the moon and back but so many people keep talking smack because I "drive a v6 muscle car" its fun and under 25y/o single male can't afford any more insurance.
I have an '18 GT and I am okay with the V6 I chose it for the AWD since I live in a place with a big winter. I put a cold air intake and an aftermarket exhaust in it and now sounds meaner than the V8s stock.
I’ve actually owned both now. I had my SXT for about 2 years and upgraded to the RT this week. I gotta tell you the RT is an obvious upgrade HOWEVER the I will never knock someone for the SXT. It was a great car. I got good gas mileage and it has plenty of power for the daily driver.
I have a 2016 Scat Pack Shaker 6spd manual bought new now has 7,467 miles on it. And my DD is a 2017 Challenger GT AWD bought new with 39,575 miles on it. I love them both I first bought the Shaker as a fair weather fun car with a 2013 Focus ST as my DD but getting into the Focus most of the time looking at the Challenger sitting under the cover in the back of the garage was depressing so I traded the ST in on the GT Challenger and now I can drive a Challenger all the time just at different power levels. These are the only Mopar's I have ever owned and they have won me over now I still have my first car I bought in 1978 a 1957 Oldsmobile 2 door 88 J2 Rocket with a now very worn and tired 3spd manual Right now I am thinking a 392 Hemi and 6spd would be a very fun upgrade to bring that 1950's Iron into the twenty-first century.
Well most of us really aren’t in a hurry and really don’t need soemthing with 100hp, buuuuttt just because you don’t have to be in a hurry doesn’t mean you shouldn’t, even when your retired and ready to settle down that don’t mean you have to get rid of fun, so if I were you I would get neither and a cheap daily that’ll get the job done with great gas mileage, then a nice old American muscle, and that will give you the fun because you can’t go wrong with old American muscle with big torque and power v8 especially with old muscle
I love my 2019 SXT! I got what I needed and wanted. Might not have the most horsepower but I’m more than happy with it. Best thing is it doesn’t break the bank lol
I have a 2019 SXT and if you're willing to put small amount of money into it you can keep up with the RT. I bought a Cat-Back exhaust system a cold air intake and a pedal Commander and I do just fine. For like 1500 bucks you can add those bolt-on upgrades. But when I pay my SXT off I will be moving over to the scat pack LOL
I own a 2017 SXT Plus with Super Track Pack in Go Mango- essentially a fully loaded v6. Best car I ever had, truly love it and not an issue so far in 32k miles. Im a working class guy, and its my daily driver. Still get multiple compliments weekly from complete strangers. The leather interior is very attractive and the seats are super comfortable. Fuel economy is good, the 8.4 infotainment works fine. Ive had the car up to 136mph where it seemed to top out. Acceleration is fine for me especialy in sport mode. The car is simply drop dead gorgeous and to this day puts a smile on my face every single day. For a person in my position it was the right choice. Would I prefer the V8? Sure, but only in the sense that we always "want" more than what we have. Dont you think a 5.7 guy would prefer a scat. And after awhile doesnt the scat driver envy the hellcat??? And on and on... Considering that 90% of driving is under 45mph the V6, especially when well equipped, makes a compelling case... At any rate all of us MOPAR ppl should stay positive and support each other, happy driving!
Excellent video, very accurate. I have owned the V-6, the R/T Hemi and my son owns a Scat Pack, so I have driven all three extensively. The V-6, before the Hemi was a nice ride, surprisingly quick and super dependable getting 32 mpg driving from NY to Florida. Drove the Scat Pack, as stated a really fast car, it thrilled me. But I wanted a bit less and I got the R/T and boy did I choose well. The R/T in my opinion is very fast, pulls like crazy upstairs sound awesome and handles really good. But unlike the Scat Pack, it has cylinder shut off at highway speed, takes mid grade fuel and gets 25 mpg. It is so much fun. My first advice, buy a Challenger, it is just the best car for the money out there including high end imports. Second advice, if you want a beast, get a Scat Pack. If you want a tamer beast buy the R/T it’s an 80% Scat Pack with some compelling differences for average performance drivers like me. You got it spot on in your review.
Couldn't agree more with your "solid, nice driving car" assessment. I have a 2016 Challenger SXT with 50,000 trouble free miles on it. And I've enjoyed putting every single one of those miles on. This car is absolutely the best long distance road runner I've ever owned. The Pentastar and 8 speed eat up the miles effortlessly, delivering 30+ hwy mpg, and I never get tired behind the wheel. Just an awesome, great looking, comfortable ride. As others here have mentioned, the Pentastar's 305 hp is more than most muscle cars had back in the day.
Even with 305hp, the car still feels slow pulling all that weight. I put some Firehawk Indy 500s on mine, and it NEVER slips, even under full throttle. Definitely could use a little more power.
@ronald k you are right about the hp from cars back in the day. that sxt was faster than the majority of modded muscle cars. i personally have an rt but rented a sxt ..i truly didnt miss any power. PEOPLE TELL me all the time "u shoulda got a scat pack or hell-cat" where in the f can i justify spending all THAT extra MONEY for power u can't use on a daily drive? that dam sxt HAS enuff power and looks just as good without all that extra money for payments and let's not talk about insurance
Thank you, you are one of the few of the v8 owners on RUclips to actually give the v6 a good review. I own a 2013 sxt plus challenger.. and soon to own a V8. I love my v6 but can't wait until I park that v8 in the driveway. 🤙🤙
Most of the people who talk down on v6's are former v6 owners who upgraded to v8's, or people who don't even know about these cars. If you look at it completely neutral, the v6 is not a bad car at all. Of course a v8 is faster and louder than a v6, but then there's also a bigger, faster, louder v8 than the one you have. As long as your car make you happy, that's all that really matters.
Although I absolutely love my Hemi, and all the modern Hemi's for that matter, Dodge did an awesome job with the 3.6. I have the same engine in my Wrangler and it's a great motor! It might not have the snappy torque of it's bigger brothers, it's still decently powered and makes the car fun to drive. If you think about it, the entry level 305 hp V6 is making around what some of the high trim level muscle cars were making back in the day for power. A little lighter on torque, but none the less still impressive.
Never seen 3.6 go bad either! More power than the former 3.5/4.0 but as reliable as the 3.3/3.8. Chrysler obviously learned their lessons not to make them like the 2.7s!
I feel like a lot of V8 fanboys forgot about how the same power the modern V6 is making was what V8's made back in the day if they actually knew that information and not go after the car they can barely drive or just feel they need to show off lol. I'm sure the aesthetics of having a V8 is nice, but I wouldn't personally own one by a long shot. I need reliability, but also enough speed for me to enjoy the ride.
I can definitely speak on the issue with lots of knowledge. My son bought his first car at 21 years of age. It was a new used 2017 SXT- PENTEX with 30K. We immediately started modifying it,, RIPP Pro Charger installed, New 309 rear end/ diff, new 230mm rear half shafts.New True Dual exhaust system with X pipe. Took it to Dyno 490 +HP total - 425HP at the rear wheels. All ID Markings removed (Ninja'd) It has already out ran a Challenger's and every Mustang it comes across. I told my son its really gonna piss them off when they find out a little ole V-6 just busted there ass! Ive always told my son dont be like everyone else, so when people tell him they have never seen a Pro Charger on a v6. He tells them that's why he did it!!
Great review. I will share my personal experience. My wife currently drives a 18 SXT Plus (like you test drove but in silver) and I used to have a 13 RT Charger. Besides the obviously lovely V8 rumble the only real difference between the 2 for me was when you floored the gas at speed. The RT definitely pushed you back in the seat where the SXT doesn't. Off the line they honestly felt very similar. Now mine had the old trans and not the new 8sp so that definitely helped the V6 feel fast off the line. She is currently wanting to upgrade her car but it would have to be a ScatPack cause to me the RT just isn't enough of a difference to me to justify the price difference. Your review pretty much says the same thing but if someone doesn't need the power it's hard to beat the MPG the V6 gives you .
I have a 2019 R/T and the exhaust note alone makes it worth it imo. Rolling down the windows on a sunny day, turning sport mode on, and listening to it roar is a lot of fun.
This is great! I have a 2019 Challenger V6 I bought a few months back, and it's actually my first muscle/mopar car (I came from a fiat 500). I love this car, and shove off those who say that "V8's are the real muscle cars"... yes, they may have more power than the V6, but the pentastar is a powerful engine within itself. Don't be discouraged when someone says that V6's suck. V6's are the perfect balance in looks, performance, and daily driving with good gas mileage despite being a muscle car. And with 305hp compared to 101hp (from the fiat), This SXT is the reason why I suddenly fell in love with Dodge, and the Challenger family. It can gunshow (to an extent), and is an excellent starter/affordable muscle car. The handling is surprisingly smooth too! It's ultimately up to you to decide if you should get, upgrade, mod, or buy something other than a V6, but these cars along with the bigger ones will remain timeless, and age pretty well.
I have the 300hp v-6 in my Chrysler 300C, and I added a K&N Typhoon air intake which really woke this engine up! The biggest gain was the throttle response and torque, not to mention the great sound ! My car sounds more like a V-8 yet still gets close to 31mpg on long road trips. If you can’t afford the Hemi, try this mod on your v-6 it’s well worth the price!
Good video, coming from a MOPAR guy, I can give 5 reasons for sxt and for RT. (Prefer my 73 Duster still) SXT -Better gas mileage -V6 longer longevity (HEMI crank shaft issues) -pretty cheap(cheaper than mustang and camaro) -8 speed automatic transmission - full rear passenger seating R/T -HEMI -economy mode available with VVT(4 cylinder while cruising) -better resale value - trim options for classic look(shaker, T/A) -more bang for you buck
I rented an SXT challenger for a trip to Florida in 2018 which started a love affair for Dodge. A few weeks later I bought a Charger SXT and had it for 1.5 years until a kid hit us head on at about 60 mph. We walked away from it relatively unscathed. On the side of the highway my wife and I were like we gotta get another charger. It saved our lives undoubtedly. We bought an R/T charger in 2019 and then upgraded to a 2021 Scat pack widebody challenger and it has been amazing. Didn’t matter the trim level, they are all fun! Love your content racerx!
I got my 2019 dodge challenger sxt blacktop editionast year...fell in love with in the first time I rode it..always get compliments..love the video and review..for a v6 I was surprised how good it rides
See as a 20 year old trying to get into the car community, I’m looking into an SXT, firstly insurance is way more expensive for me regardless, but the SXT is both less expensive, cheaper on insurance, and still looks good, but I feel like this is a good start to drive something that will handle different, and has a little more power than I’m used too, kinda work my way up I guess
No shame on that man, I’ll be 30 in a few years and feel like an SXR is a great start for me. I’m upgrading cars out of necessity and 20kUSD doesn’t seem so bad. I’m not trying to impress anyone with speed these days anyway lol gas is too expensive
I bought a 2020 Challenger R/T about two months ago. It has a 6 speed manual transmission. Love it. I think the R/T here feels stiffer than the SXT because the R/T has the Special Track Pack . The STP was an option on earlier year R/Ts but is standard on 2020s. The STP makes a big difference in handling. I added the STP to a 2017 300S and the handling improvement was amazing.
Awesome comparison! I got a 2019 R/T 2 months ago and I'm absolutely in love with it. There is nothing wrong with a V6 but I wanted that true V8 and muscle car experience.
For those of us who live in very cold snowy climates, the GT and SXT allow us to enjoy the vehicle year round. I would love an RT but hate to spend money for something that would sit for many months out of the year. My GT is amazing and has plenty of power. Feel like it deserves more credit than people give it. Great video!!
I love my V6 Challenger so much. I got my Challenger back in July of 2019. I needed a better highway and city car because my 2007 Jeep Wrangler would death wobble above 60mph and driving a manual Jeep in city traffic was purely stressful, it truly belonged on rural roads and as an off roader. I wanted a V8 but coming from a Wrangler that makes 200hp, I knew I was going to end up killing myself getting behind the wheel plus the insurance for 21 year old me and repair costs would truly burn a hole in my wallet. You won't be winning any races but the 3.6 pentastar is still plenty for passing and highway on ramp power and is faster than most cars on the road. I always tell everyone who wants to join the muscle car community to start off with a V6 (with the exception if you know what you're doing) then work your way up.
The first time I saw a Challenger was in 1970 on the car lot going to school. Fell in love right then and there! I never had one, but this video shows me the difference between the trim levels. Gotta find a used one. Thanks for the cool video. I'd definitely take the RT just for the sound and speed.
I test drove a 18 charger 5.7, and the 2019 charger 3.6 I ended up buying, and in a turn the 3.6 felt vastly better balanced. the V8 for sure had the power, but that V6 just felt better to drive. I have fun with it, and whenever I get the money to start working on it, I shouldnt have a problem showing why the V6 is no longer an irrelevant engine in the Charger/challenger family.
RacerX, I have always liked your videos but dude lately you have been putting out some really good ones. I love the comparison videos. Keep up the great work!!
We had a 17 Yellow Jacket 5.7 getting 33-34 mpg on the highway. We now have the SXT Plus with the 3.07 gear ratio. Currently getting 31mpg with the 3.6 Pentastar! Love this light weight Challenger. Great daily driver. Best part was the price. We traded our low mileage 200 with the 3.6. Picked up our new to us 17 Octane Red Challenger with only 5000 miles for 14k! One owner and in mint condition. Win win for us!
I recently financed a 2018 SXT plus and was kicking myself for not going “big” and getting and R/T, but after this video Im happy I pulled the trigger, and this was coming from daily driving an BMW E46 325i, noticeable difference and Im not mad at it. plus I love the Destroyer Grey body. great video
I have a 2017 GT in GO Green, its a Tank in the snow, i wanted something different than other regular awd cars. The GT fills that want & need very well.
The unique classic design of the challenger car pulled me towards the dealer. I took both the GT and the RT for a test drive, and I agree with you on the difference so I decided to buy an RT challenger. Thank you for this video.
My 2016 SXT had them too. You have to reach behind the headlight and pop out the caps by loosening the clips to remove them. It takes like 5 seconds. It's a feature on the 2015+ models.
Yeah my GT has the headlight pass through with the hellcat lower air box installed. I only have the one side moded though because I don't see the point in doing the passenger side just to bring in dust and such.
Literally me. I want it for the looks. The feel. The hype. The engine not so much. Ive driven in v8s. I dont want an engine that i know i wont be able to handle. I can tame a v6.
I have the 2018 GT Challenger. I love it, the power it puts out is enough for me without going into higher price. I've done 120mph and it was still a smooth ride not rough at all. Definitely enough get up and go without going to the V8. Have had a lot of fun in my baby and plan to continue having fun with it.
6:00 The lens on the SXT can be removed pretty easily. Switch to the Hellcat lower air box , add a headlight intake tube and you’ll have a functional system.
I've had my 2011 v6 since 2013 and love it. It has enough power to get out of it's own way and is plenty for me not to mention most people can't even tell the difference. Besides, I know what I would do with anything more and this keeps me honest.
I have a 2013 Dodge Challenger SXT and it does have power enough to enjoy and is very much quieter" I bought it used the price of $14,000 with an extended warranty for 2 years for $2.100.00 on just about everything of the car I am pleased!
I test drove an SXT because it was a lot cheaper than my SRT 392 and got way better mileage, and I was pleasantly surprised! It has more getup than people give it credit for and it sounds good for a V6. But I knew in my heart of hearts, that I would not be satisfied without that big rumbly V8 in my SRT 392
Found your channel yesterday. In the market for a Challenger. It will be my first sport/muscle car. Your videos help out so much to decide on the Trim package. I thought about the Charger but the classic look of the Challenger IMO can't be beat!
I had a base model 2017 SXT, no spoiler, basic radio, cloth seats, v6...I didn't mind it but I wasn't happy with it. Then I upgraded to a 2018 Challenger T/A+, hoo-boy I love that thing. F8 Green, safety features out the wazoo, 8.4 inch Nav, the alcantera seats that are heated and cooled. It is just the best. My car sounds awesome just the way it is. I have DD it for almost a year now. It does have a drinking problem tho'. Keep up the good work on those videos.
At the end of the day get the Trim that is convenient for you. If you get a V6 people will be like “why not get a 5.7 it’s not that much more” if you get a 5.7 they will be like “why not get the scat” if you get a scat they will be like “you should’ve saved up for a hellcat” lol it goes on and on. I got a 2018 fully loaded RT and I love it. I put almost 15k likes in a year because I drive it to work and back. It’s not bad on gas tbh so that’s not a problem and I never had a problem with it.
Its depends what u want. If u want to actually RACE your car and go out on the weekends and race on the highway againsts fast cars then yes get a scatpack at least. If you just want something quick with plenty of power for daily driving get the 5.7. Id you ever wanted more power from your 5.7 just get full bolts and tune.
“GOT YA HANDS TIED THERE 🤣💯😭” that’s all I have to say. Wait actually. Very well spoken with great information and feedback. Literally perfect vid. Long enough to get a great point across not over talked with corny jokes or whatever. Keep doing what your doing man, awesome vid.
I have a 2013 challenger sxt plus. It's got everything but a hemi. It's a great driving, riding car. The v6 gets great mpg on the highway. I,m always getting compliments on how good the car looks. Enjoy your videos.
I usually get bored listing to people talk about cars and give up halfway through the video. You are great to listen to and love the comparisons and watch the whole video. I have a 2016 5.7 RT plus in New Zealand and love it. We have a lot more WRX turbos here. I actually drive a legacy daily. Almost and WRX STI 😆
I have the 3.6 pentastar in my two door, Chrysler 200 and it seems fairly comparable to the Challenger sxt. even thought The 2012 200 only gets 283hp it still has Plenty of power for the highway. It was the most powerful midsize sedan that year. Even The way the modern Challenger is styled like a '60s model with a plastic bumper instead of chrome, is the way the 2 door 200 is modeled after the '62 300. I think the 6 cylinder engine is the Goldilocks engine. When i go around corners in a 4 cylinder, i often get jolted by gear changes mid turn. In a 6, that usually never happens, And I'd chirp tires in an 8.
I bought my v6 charger back in 2017 to replace my v8 truck for better gas to work and back then they gave me the unlimited lifetime warranty only offered for v6 and I did Flowmaster dual exhaust a year later and there was a huge difference in power and weight after that
Bought my 2015 SXT two years ago. I found one with only 318 miles on it. Considered the Camaro and Mustang. Challenger is better than both of them. I put a hitch on it and I use it to pull my small 5x8 trailer for my zero turn. No issues. At all. It has great interior room and gets great gas mileage. I am very very happy with the car.
On my second sxt at the moment , like others have said , a great car for the money and a nice balance between power/gas mileage. However my third one will be either an RT or a scat. I'm getting that itch for a V8.
I have a 2017 SXT. The only mods are a Hellcat airbox with a K&N filter. I stayed with the stock exhaust because all the aftermarket exhausts sound terrible to me. As stated in the review, 99% of time the SXT is all anyone needs. But it's not all about straight line speed. In my opinion, the SXT is better balanced by virtue of the lighter engine. It handles great on curvy roads. No doubt the V8 is better in a straight line but I doubt the gap between the six and eight would be so great on a twisty road. Anyway, I'm happy with mine.
Yup! Regardless of what you get, random people will still ask "is that a Hellcat?" They all look so good
All those MOPARS my family at FCA thanks you!
@@Jeremy_810 Facts. That happened to me so much. Either that or is that a Hemi. The average person can't even tell.
I love my V6 Challenger. Best looking car and fun to use as a daily.
Good comparison info. Any thoughts or experience regarding R/T vs R/T scat?
I got my 2019 SXT 3 months ago and I love it. The V6 offers everything you need in a sports car smooth ride and plenty of space. I don’t feel the need to upgrade anytime soon

Interestingly, many Chally owners feel compelled to change the exhaust system on their V8 models.
I like my 2013 R/T exhaust note just like it came bone stock.
They did good on the T/A and 2019 & newer R/T's. Sounds ferocious from the factory.
the RT has no AWD for us in the north, who drive in the snow (Upstate NY here) ill stick with my GT. i can make it sound better if i wanted to but idc about that.
Highly recommend.
they intimidate, worth it
I own a 2019 SXT with the black out package. With the tinted windows, it's sick. I would love an RT or something beyond that, but I love the challenger and I am very happy with the V6. To each their own!
Much respect from an R/T owner here. Enjoy your Challenger brother! Mopar or no car!
How's the MPG?
@@GefilteFish. With daily driving it's 21-22 MPG, but on road trips with all highway I can average 29 MPG.
i have the same car including the tint. mine is granite so its all dark and i swapped the chrome lug nuts for black. for $30 its a great mod. these cars look great and where i live anything more then the V6 would be wasted as there is always traffic.
V6 are nice but I only lasted 1 months in mine before I traded for an RT 5.7
Felt like I was driving a fake muscle car with the V6 until I upgrade and got the muscle to match the look.
The ten thousand dollar difference was why I went with sxt.
Tbh id rather put a down payment on the R/T and pay off the rest cause you can’t go wrong with a V8
I just picked up a 15 SRT 392 for 29500 with 33000 miles the deals are out there
@Nate Challenger Days!! Got a 2019 SXT Challenger Blacktop Ed in indiglow blue for less than $25,000 new. The V6 made sense, given my other is a C6 corvette.. and going from one to the other is near perfection.

Nothing wrong with that my friend. Go with what you can afford
What did ya get?
I got the 2023 sxt blacktop bro I love it so far
What do you recommend for the exhaust to get that great sound?
@@oldheadttv_526 get a v8 for a good sound. All v6's with exhaust work sound like 🎺
Jesse Deck fr tho 😂 honestly it’s best to not touch the exhaust on those v6’s.
I have a 2013 R/T and I’m thankful the V6 exists so the Challenger/Charger can keep being made
Carson Brite .. they make a lot of them .. there must be a reason right?
Agreed!
@@toddlehman1 @Craig
Àgreed! Back in the old days I think, there I was a 318 engine and also possibly a slant 6 available in the Challenger. Today the base engine is the V6, a far more powerful engine that can produce 0-60 times of 6 sec. That is quite decent performance that no one needs to make any apology for.
Cool cars but where is the reliability!
“There is always a faster car.” Preach. Buy what you want that you can comfortably afford and don’t worry about what anyone thinks.
Just got a throttle response controller tho… did it throw any codes or is your throttle response good?
what does the 0-60 look like after the throttle response controller? and which controller do u have?

Being retired, I'm in no hurry to go anywhere. $10,000 difference in price, I'll shop for the sxt, great video

Very true....
I love my 2015 sxt. I don't need a racecar, I needed a good looking, comfortable, and fun car to drive. That's exactly what I got.

That sxt looked quite comfortable. I wouldn't feel guilty driving the heck out of it. Nice comparison!
Clint S .. me too 👍.. it actually surprised me a little bit
Track Pack R/T .. absolutely the V6 engine certainly has its merits 👍
Throw a 50 state smog legal supercharger on it and boom modern v8 power
I own a 2020 sxt Dodge Challenger I love it !!!!
why not just buy a 2015 hellcat 😝
94 Eldorado
Me too man just bought one as my first car it's beautiful man
lol bro how much is your insurance?
Same, @Marrio0 FAM-I LOVE my SXT!
I own a 2015 sxt challenger I love it great video man appreciate you showings us v6 boys some love
I just got my SXT blacktop limited edition and I cried I am so happy .
I have a 2019 R/T and the exhaust note alone makes it worth it imo. Rolling down the windows on a sunny day, turning sport mode on, and listening to it roar is a lot of fun.
I have the GT. Threw a aftermarket exhaust and CAI in it and it sounds like the RT now. And the AWD makes fun to drive in the snow.
@@cljay25 cool car, but no it doesn't. Very different sound coming v6 to v8.
Sadly my R/T was totaled. RIP.
@@GearheadK20C4 sorry 😢
Man that HEMI HUM is yummy to my ears. Good lord that thing sings a beautiful song.
Honestly this is why I love the dodge family. There is so much respect from top to bottom from challenger owners. As an SXT owner I appreciate that.
So you never ran into a jerk with V8 putting you down drinking a V6!
Definitely something to thing about.. Much appreciated
I just ordered that exact intake, looking forward to hearing what it sounds like.
Good video, coming from a MOPAR guy, I can give 5 reasons for sxt and for RT. (Prefer my 73 Duster still)
SXT
-Better gas mileage
-V6 longer longevity (HEMI crank shaft issues)
-pretty cheap(cheaper than mustang and camaro)
-8 speed automatic transmission
- full rear passenger seating
R/T
-HEMI
-economy mode available with VVT(4 cylinder while cruising)
-better resale value
- trim options for classic look(shaker, T/A)
-more bang for you buck
Factory re-opened on Tuesday 5/19 for one shift, and will go to two shifts on Monday 5/25 (no holiday in Canada that day).
E Michael .. wow great to know 👍.. hopefully we will start seeing more cars soon
I'm 21 and got my 2018 GT about 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it. I think it was a great choice for my first sporty/muscle car
@@zackmorin4229 ended up with a 2016 Mustang, couldn’t be happier, my car is amazing
@@zackmorin4229 i am getting my 2023 GT next week! How are you liking yours?
I’m so glad that you compared the two 👍🏽 I always wondered what was the real difference in power.. thank you 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I bought a 2020 Challenger R/T about two months ago.
Hope your loving that RT brother
@@RacerX9 I am absolutely loving it and enjoying your content as well!
My friend got the 2019 sxt v6 and his co worker always laughs at him because he has the hemi. He says the v8 is the real one which I agree.
The main reason I went with the SXT. When it snows, my husband ends up having to park his Camaro. I can still drive my car.
Why is the sxt and gt better in the snow? I’m thinking about getting a 2023 challenger but live in New York.
@@gunslinginggringo AWD
This is why I cancelled my R/T order.... Canadian winters... don't wanna chance it in a snowstorm. Rather get AWD to be safe.
I'm in Canada , and I have R/T for spring and summer . Also a winter beater for snow times . No problem 😎
I'd definitely take the RT just for the sound and speed.
awesome review bro, i hate people that look down on lower trim levels. if possible can we see you race scatpack vs rt
MrPrimetime474 .. I did a comparison a little while back but didn’t race them. I will see what I can do. ruclips.net/video/YjRLUmHHoxM/видео.html
So look up to something lower?
I test drove a 18 charger 5.7, and the 2019 charger 3.6 I ended up buying, and in a turn the 3.6 felt vastly better balanced. the V8 for sure had the power, but that V6 just felt better to drive. I have fun with it, and whenever I get the money to start working on it, I shouldnt have a problem showing why the V6 is no longer an irrelevant engine in the Charger/challenger family.
I was surprised at the performance of the v6!
RacerX, I have always liked your videos but dude lately you have been putting out some really good ones. I love the comparison videos. Keep up the great work!!
angelo .. thanks buddy! I appreciate it 👍
I feel the same as an RT Shaker owner. Just perfect 👌
I’ve had my 2019 R/T challenger for abt 2 months now. Such a sweet spot, I love it
I had a 2016 sxt challenger. Absolutely loved it. Upgraded to a scatpack a few months ago.
anthony yates-sticker .. bet your loving that Scatpack 👍
Win win for us!
love all mopars! beautiful cars. always drove my dads ram 5.7 and finally got a scat. Will never get over this power pushing me back into my seat
Daniel Vasquez .. the Scatpack is a great package 👍
You don't have to love every model that a company makes. U can help mopar make better cars by being critical when necessary. Right?
The headlight holes are on the SXT too. They just have the covers in the hole blocking the way. They pop out pretty easy. My scat pack had em too.
Modern Muscle 180 .. these headlights were complete solid .. no pass through
My 2016 SXT had them too. You have to reach behind the headlight and pop out the caps by loosening the clips to remove them. It takes like 5 seconds. It's a feature on the 2015+ models.
Popped my covers/caps out of mine too and added red rings.
Yeah my GT has the headlight pass through with the hellcat lower air box installed. I only have the one side moded though because I don't see the point in doing the passenger side just to bring in dust and such.
I need to check this out it would be nice to remove the driver side one for more air flow to my CAI
Dude, I was on the fence about getting an SXT until today. You tipped me over into something I can actually afford.
I own a 2017 AWD GT and I love it, could care less about the engine. Just wanted a Challenger!
Literally me. I want it for the looks. The feel. The hype. The engine not so much. Ive driven in v8s. I dont want an engine that i know i wont be able to handle. I can tame a v6.
I have a 16 SXT first car ive ever bought/owned and I love it. I wanted to mod it but honestly I might just get a new R/T
I used to have a 2.7L 4speed Charger and jumped to the 5.7L 5speed and I seriously hope no one has to endure the 0-60 in 12 seconds that I had to.
amen to that brother
A lot of those 2.7 puked in the Magnums, I don't think any originals survived, most were on their second engine I seen
I got my sxt for $20.000
2018 brand new. I love it! i wish I could afford any of the srts
Just sold my 2018 White Knuckle Challenger SXT and bought a New Octane Red 2020 Challenger R/T Blacktop edition. Very happy I did 😊
6:00 The lens on the SXT can be removed pretty easily. Switch to the Hellcat lower air box , add a headlight intake tube and you’ll have a functional system.
I did that on 2018.
I own a ‘19 SXT and it’s primary my daily driver. I love this car and not thinking about a hellcat. Thanks for showing the love for the SXT
I've had my 2011 v6 since 2013 and love it. It has enough power to get out of it's own way and is plenty for me not to mention most people can't even tell the difference. Besides, I know what I would do with anything more and this keeps me honest.
Solid comment lol. Same I feel like I’d abuse the engine power
I have a 2013 Dodge Challenger SXT and it does have power enough to enjoy and is very much quieter" I bought it used the price of $14,000 with an extended warranty for 2 years for $2.100.00 on just about everything of the car I am pleased!
My next vehicle will be either a Challenger or Charger. Thanks for posting the review. 🇺🇸🏁
Thanks for coming out and shooting there. Was an honor to have you! - Stace
For sure Stace.. I appreciate the help
Found your channel yesterday. In the market for a Challenger. It will be my first sport/muscle car. Your videos help out so much to decide on the Trim package. I thought about the Charger but the classic look of the Challenger IMO can't be beat!
Welcome to the channel brother
Also good to mention you can get the r/t with a manual vs not in the sxt
Exactly how I feel lol, Too many people say scat pack and up or bust and it’s obviously crazy talk
I really appreciate you understand people should live on a budget and buy what you can afford.
The strongest feeling naturally aspirated v6 I’ve driven is the Infiniti 3.7 with 330hp.
Lol..stick that Infiniti where the sun doesn’t shine
I drove a 3.6 Challenger a couple years ago. I was very impressed with the performance of the V6. I would have no problem owning a V6 Challenger.
Craig,
I agree, one big point is he does a great job without foul language
I’m going for the SXT. Thank you for the video
Just traded in my 2019 SXT challenger for a 2020 R/T challenger. Love my decision.
I have a 2013 challenger sxt plus. It's got everything but a hemi. It's a great driving, riding car. The v6 gets great mpg on the highway. I,m always getting compliments on how good the car looks. Enjoy your videos.
man u made me feel even better about my choice
I usually get bored listing to people talk about cars and give up halfway through the video. You are great to listen to and love the comparisons and watch the whole video. I have a 2016 5.7 RT plus in New Zealand and love it. We have a lot more WRX turbos here. I actually drive a legacy daily. Almost and WRX STI 😆
I appreciate the support.. Glad you enjoyed the comparison.
R-X, you do a great job of commentating! No ums or ahs! Very professional delivery. Like a sports talk show guy. Well done!
Thank you Bob.. much appreciated 🤜🔥🔥
RT is the life for me....oh that growl!!!!!💥💥
I bought my v6 charger back in 2017 to replace my v8 truck for better gas to work and back then they gave me the unlimited lifetime warranty only offered for v6 and I did Flowmaster dual exhaust a year later and there was a huge difference in power and weight after that
I'm getting a 2016 rt with stp in about a week, I'm so stoked. Test drive I saw the best recorded 0 to 60 was 5.6 and thought well I need to fix that
Bought my 2015 SXT two years ago.
