Went shopping for a 2015 Scatpack and came home with a 6 speed 2013 R/T with 40K miles in excellent condition for a 1/4 of the cost. Already added brembos and have headers, 270 comp cam, and a nitrous kit ready to go in this thing.
@@81mccabe58But the price difference between that and a boosted rt... If anybody is spending that much to upgrade a scat they more than likely have the money to just get a hellcat. For people on more of a budget the amount of power they can get out of boosting a 5.7 they're beating 97% of scats because nobody with a scat is boosting cause of the risk
I currently own a 2012 dodge charger RT. Like your said, your always going to want more and that’s how dodge gets you. You have an RT but you feel like you wanna upgrade to an srt8, scat pack or hellcat. The other alternative is also mods but that takes time and knowledge on what it takes to build your car. If you have the money, you can just pay someone to do it for you. It all depends on the owners budget and what they wanna do. I feel like the 5.7 is for the guys who love the v8 but also lowkey wanna be mechanics and learn about the car they own. 6.4 are just for those with bragging rights since you already have of what the hemi is capable of stock.
if you wanna mod / have a cheap V8 - buy the 5.7 if you want more power without modding - buy a scatpack if you have money - power a hellcat/demon/redeye
I had a 2018 RT Charger from CarMax for $35K. Had bank loan set backs and my close friend who is a teacher; got a 2019 Scat Charger on his own and threw me the keys 2 months later and told me make the payments. 1 year and 2 months later, I'm in love with this but I cant truly make power mods. I'm grateful my friend did that for me and limited his buying power but then again I clicked on you're video. Oh and I'm one of them boys now
Scat Pack widebody is a better driving car than any 5.7 liter. 5,7 is better for mods but the scat pack widebody is less produced and more will hold its value better.
No the fuck they won’t there are way too many of them out there to really be that special and it’s going to take about 20 plus years before you start to see any value increase only hellcat models and up will have a chance of seeing a return in a reasonable time frame
I went out to buy a 5.7 2023 Last Call, as it has enough power for my driving needs. I drove a fully loaded version, and it was nice. They had a bare bones Scat on the lot for just $2K more, and so I drove it. That extra ooomph from the 6.4 was enough to convince me to go for the Scat😋. Later I added leather to the seats (well worth it) and upgraded the wheels to wider versions (275 front, 305 rear). Really glad I went with the Scat Pack now. More power with a warranty. Ended up costing me $7.5K more than the R/T I drove initially, but love the car.
5.7 can apparently be modded to be slightly better than a scatpack; for about the same price. Honestly anything faster than 45k cars is drag racing material or illegal racing so its not worth it for most people.
This reminds me of the German auto maker been doing with their cars. Example you can get base 3 series, you can upgrade to m version package 3 series and you can get to m3 and lastly if m3 is not enough for you can get m3 comp. Each upgrade cost money and maintenance.
Good tidbit. I had a 2016 Ford Mustang GT that I've owned for 6 months, and, tragically, caught fire and was totalled. Looking at used muscle cars in the same dealership I got my Mustang from, and they have a '18 Challenger R/T Plus for 33 grand, 41k miles. I'm interested, but wasn't sure on pulling the trigger due to that horsepower (390 vs my Mustang's 435) and the mechanics of the 5.7 (16 spark plugs vs the usual 8) - I'm a DIY junkie and I have done all the maintenance and modification work on my Mustang by myself Your video has helped in my consideration process, and I am fairly close to deciding to join the Dodge Brotherhood.
@@michaelbuteau4183 Hey, time flies by way too fast. I already got myself another Mustang GT Premium. Decided to wait things out until I found another Mustang, instead of hastily moving to a Dodge or a Chevy.
There's no return from it brother! You'll love the experience the Challenger 5.7 or 6.4 will give you. The sound of that Hemi is glorious! Just the overall muscle car experience the Challenger will give you is addictive
The difference between the 2 trims is 65 foot pounds of torque which is where you get your oomph off the line. The 5.7 is about 300 pounds lighter I have beaten many 6.4 chargers on the road my 5.7 has a 6 speed which means it has a 3.92 gear in the rear end
@Toro704 nah don't really sweet racer. I would not advise street racering unless you change out your rear end gear and put on a Dana 60 since that rear end is bullet proof
I Would only buy a 5.7 if I was in to modding. A 6.4 Is as low as I would go down on the totem Pole. For about the same money as a 5,7. You can buy a Mustang GT or a 2SS Camaro. My wife has a 2SS Camaro Convertible, That's a really nice And fast car. My brother-in-law has a Mustang GT. I drove that and it's a lot of fun. I had a 2018 challenger T. A 392. I had it for 5 years that car was a blast. I drove the same car as an R. T just didn't have enough power "for me". I now have a hellcat It is The fastest most fun car I ever owned. But my 2 cents worth is by what you can easily afford Don't buy it to show off or one up somebody. Whatever you get, make it Your own.
I have a 5.7 ex cop car with some mild mods and a 74 chev C10 truck with a 5.3 LS that has a 'few more' mods but weighs 1,000 lbs less than the cop car... with either one... driving wet streets? EASY to get in trouble LOL One difference is that the cop car feels more 'civilized' in that it is easier to drive normally.. The truck is a beast with drive by cable it takes a light foot. My girlfriend drives the cop car and thinks it is 'nice' she has never spun the tires even.... it can be driven like that. I drove my 69 el camino with 470 big block and 6 speed manual for 10 years and made it 'driveable' meaning it could be driven by my girlfriend or dad and they never once spun the tires.. It also would get 19 or so MPG on a trip... It would run 12.6 in the quarter. The cop car reminds me of it even tho it is a good second slower. Point being.... it is easy to make a Charger that is 'fast' and reliable and easy to drive that both people who do not like to drive 'aggressively' and those who do can enjoy. That is my take from half a century of hot rodding.
Just bought a rt after turning down the scat pack and personally to me a scat pack is for people who really really really wanted that hellcat but couldn't get approved 😅
@ but then your racing 5.0’s gutted m4’s and hellcats and you would wish instead of dropping that 35-50k for a new or used scat could've saved that extra 20-30k to get the hellcat in my opinion if you want to get a feel for what dodge is for and its power and trim levels starting at a fully loaded gt then going to a hellcat is wise but most people get scats get bored and go to a hellcat
My first Challenger was a 5.7L that was FBO and made 371whp. Stock is roughly 330whp. For reference, stock 392s make around 430whp. My 3rd one is a Scat Pack Widebody There is literally no reason to get a 5.7L instead if you can afford a 392. They aren't any more reliable, they don't make power easier or better and they aren't any cheaper on insurance. The one and ONLY thing a 5.7L has over a 392 is picking up power from bolt ons but even a FBO 5.7 isn't touching a 392 so theres no point to doing that. 5.7Ls are not as well equipped either. No 6 piston brembos, no limited slip diff unless you get a 6 speed manual and no 3 mode suspension.

Just before deciding, the salesman asked if I wanted to drive a Scat Pack. He had a real base model with cloth seats for $51.5k. After tasting that 6.4, needless to say I spent the $2k more and came home with the Scat. No regrets.

5.7's are fun and enough power for a lot of people.
Facts
I’ve owned all. 5.7L is the best choice. A lot of mods that can be done to smoke a 6.4L. The mods will cost less than the price of buying a 6.4…
Not true… it’s easier to mod yes, but if a 6.4L has a rebuilt bottom end with new pistons and cam shaft it’ll be on a totally different level
It depends on the year and if you were buying it new or not. I got mine before the mark ups and the price difference was not so great.
