I think the 5.7 provides a much needed gateway car for young musclecar enthusiasts. Provides an HP number the 60/70s crowd will tell you is VERY respectable, affordable to the younger crowd who are also still building their careers and income, and isn’t so overpowered that the learning comes from crashing. Great engine, in great looking musclecars! Good job, racer, in spotlighting them.
I really love how you are so unbiased and fair when reviewing cars. For someone who owns 1000+ hp cars to say an RT has a lot of punch is actually oddly wholesome
@@djcopeland2090 I was thinking that too🤣 like just maybe if they see that , I’ll be fine with a lil broken glass as long as I have my vehicles . I need to learn tbh
The R/T is the best bang for the buck. It's still fast and quick for the average joe, and it's cheaper than the 392s. Plus it's a hemi, so sounds very good! 😎👍
Back in the early 70’s the R/T was the highest rated performance car you could basically order. There nothing bad or cheesy regarding the R/T. It is actually as you stated the best bang for your dollar right now. Especially with an economy getting ready to fall off a cliff and inflation going through the roof.
R/T is vastly underrated. I had the pleasure of test driving a 2021 R/T charger and I fell in love. It was my first time driving a hemi and all I can say was it put a smile the size of Texas on my face. It's a perfect balance of power and handling in my opinion. I am definitely gonna grab one before they're gone.
I actually have a 2021 charger RT, it’s faster than 85% of the cars you see everyday so it’s perfectly fine by me, that Nissan quest won’t get past the yellow light before I do! 😂 jk, it is fast, just not quick… 0-60 in 5 secs but a high end top speed of 160mph what more can you need?
I sold my 5.7 with 200,000 miles on it. Never had a mechanical breakdown but it did have the HEMI tick since day one. It was in a jeep grand Cherokee. I also sold my 2019 charger scat pack. . It was the first car I bought brand new. I was the only guy to drive it. when I went to test drive it, had 2 miles on it. I miss that car, something fierce. If I would’ve known hellcats would’ve went the price that they are currently at I would’ve bought one right then and there. In 2020 when I sold the Scat , I had a chance to buy a brand new hellcat with 4 miles on it for 52,000. But they were only willing to give me 34,000 for my charger which then made with taxes tags and everything came to 62,000. Because I still owed 42,000. When I sold the Scatty another dealer they gave me 40,000 for it on a-trade in for 2020 Durango.
The RTs are great muscle. Very vestal. The one my husband got a month ago he ordered it 6/30/22 was delivered to him on 10/12/22. It is a Challenger RT TA Octane Red pearl coat. It is drop dead gorgeous. Was the best thing he ever did. This thing is loaded. He is going to do some mods to it in spring. RTs are just so much fun. Thank you RacerX for another great video.
The RT doesn't get the respect it deserves. It looks good, is a capable performer, a great cruiser, and isn't targeted by POS thieves nearly as much as Scats and Hellcats. Plus, as you stated as well, it's much more affordable all the way around when you consider buying price, fuel, insurance, and maintenance. Not everyone tracks their car anyway, so most of the high horsepower numbers are never used. Is there really a major difference on regular city streets between 375 and 485 hp in normal day to day driving? Nope, because you can't use the upper limits of your horsepower unless you like spending quality time in jail cells. Sure, it's great to say you have a Hellcat or GT500, but unless you track them, or get lucky enough to be on a very long and empty stretch of highway in the middle of nowhere, you'll never reach your potential with them. For some people it's a bragging rights thing. The RT is a solid car, even without mods.
I own a 2015 challenger R/T and I love how you don’t give it a bad rep like a lot of people nowadays, I appreciate how you make it feel a little more appreciated, I love your channel!
@@Smasher-Devourer it’s more than just adding fender flares and wheel spacers , I have a widebody and I can tell you you have to buy wider tires which for a set usually goes for 1200$-1700$ and the wheel suspension and brakes cause the tires are bigger , it can be done but it’s not that simple
Great video. Its crazy to me that an R/T Plus goes for mid 40s now. I remember buying the same car new in 2014 for $31k out the door. That aside, I agree the R/T is a great car to have if you don’t really care about racing. The torque doesn’t kick in until around 4K RPM but a tune or even a plug-in Pedal Commander can crank up the acceleration and make you feel that 410 torque quicker. I’ve owned the SXT, RT, SRT8 392, SRT 392 and Hellcat challengers, and my favorite honestly was probably the R/T. A great car that gave me all I needed for the money at the time.
I've said this before, & I'll say it again: I love building up my R/T!!! 🖤 I've just found that they've made some significant improvements since 2015. You actually have the option to put the 4-piston Brembo's on it from the factory as an example. I'd have to replace my spindles to add Brembo's to my '15. The other nice thing is that it comes with the T/A style hood now, which can easily be converted into a ram air setup. 😉
I have had both, right now I have a 22 Scat Pack. The RT sounds just as good as the 6.4, and the RT definitely rides better. But other than that, they are both amazing cars. I love them both.
I love my ‘22 RT. I got the Performance Handling Package so it came with the Bilstein suspension like the scat pack, plus 4 piston Brembo brakes and a flat bottom steering wheel. Plenty of HP to have fun, and less cost to insure. RT is the forgotten trim and it’s sad because it has so much history.
I personally love my R/T. I got a great deal (high 20s) on a middle of the way equipped 2016 with around 65k miles on it and it's been everything I dreamed it would be and more. It's my first car that I paid for entirely on my own and with about $3500-$4000 in mods it has become an aesthetic beauty. I haven't done anything performance-wise because I love the ability to daily drive it and take it to work, but I get a ton of compliments on it regardless.
I picked up my base 22 challenger RT eight speed back in June and actually got it for 37 out the door. Originally wanted a scat pack, but unfortunately the price just got to high. Car is stock other than a hellcat airbox and a drop in filter for now. Don’t sleep on an RT 8 speed I knocked down a 4.4 0 to 60 the other day in 35 degree air so they are still plenty fun.
5.7 all day long. It's always been the best value on the lot. Want power? Buy a good cam, get headers, get a good tune, and flipout. Want more? Get your heads done. Port and polished. Increase the valve seats and upgrade your springs. Replace those fuel injectors to something larger. In most cases, you'll still come in cheaper than a Scat.
Both cars are badass street muscle 💪. After chatting with B Mason about it, instead of modding, I upgraded from the 5.7 Shaker 6 speed to the 6.4 - 8 Speed Automatic. I am much happier in the 6.4, with the TF Tranny...
Was going to buy a 5.7. Rented one from Enterprise for a weekend and loved it. Went to the Dodge dealer in Feb 2017 to factory order a new 5.7 in Pitch Black and while completing the order form I went temporarily insane and ticked "6.4 Scatpack" option! It was delivered in May. No regrets. The 5.7 is a great car with lots of punch, but the 6.4 is noticebly faster. Can't imagine how crazy a Hellcat must be!
Prices are up $10,000 to $20,000 on these Challengers from just a few years ago. I was looking at new RT's for $29,000 and Scatpacks for $38,000. We had good incentives and dealer discounts then. Currently, for $45,000 the best buy is a basic Mustang GT with a 10 speed.
I love my RT. I'm a family man in my mid 30s. Have 6 kids and a wife. I can't easily afford an $50,000 car. The RT fit my budget and I feel dope in it.
Valid points. I like how you consider a low miles used RT. New RTs are poor performance value at $46K range, but at $25-33K this makes sense. Above $40K, i'd give up the space for much more potent & lighter V8'Stang & Camaros. Personally, i'd option a LT1 Camaro to around 41K and still come in cheaper than new RT. Less $$$, less weight, +80HP and less likely to be stolen!
Rt owner, and still want a recent Lt1 Camaro real bad. ALways liked the platform. Rt of course only makes the most sense when its a nice but dirt cheap used car.
When you pick up a used RT, the first mod should be getting rid of the open differential. The hellcat 3.08 limited slip is a direct swap and does not require the transmission on the automatic to be retuned. With the 8 speed automatic, this will put you neck and neck with the 6 speed auto of the SRT8 of the previous generation. You can continue to mod from there put the rearend really wakes the car up. I did this to my 2016 RT Plus, it cost about $1400 total and it was money well spent.
@@markmetzger6907 the manuals have the lower geared LSDs stock. I should have clarified this is the A8 automatic. It comes with an open differential and the gear ratio was 2.somthing. I had the swap done about 4 years ago so don't remember the exact open differential gear ratio. The 3.o7 lsd made a huge difference.
I couldn’t agree with you more about what you mentioned regarding the R/T. I bought mine last April and have no regrets whatsoever! I wanted a Scatpack but couldn’t justify the price difference. My 2017 T/A Plus is a blast to drive and it is my daily driver and no need for the HP the 6.4 puts out since I drive in the city daily! I have no regrets buying my 5.7L and enjoying making it my own!
Great points regarding the 5.7. However, if you're really wanting the best deal possible on a 5.7, you have to go the 300 route. Even a newer 6.4 will cost you less on the Chrysler model vs the Dodge. The LX platform is the same used on the Challenger/Charger/300. Also, depending on the trim level, you'll get really nice features. I had the opportunity to purchase a new to me car a few years back. I wanted an FCA product with a V8. I ultimately decided on a 300C with AWD and a 5.7L V8. My 300 has heated and cooled seats, heated and cooled cup holders, heated steering wheel, privacy shade in the rear, Nav/DVD player/USB reader. The Dodge equivelant does not exist. There is no R/T that offered the same features I got on my 300C. I have a car that looks good, runs good, great in the winter with every feature that I wanted and sounds better than an R/T as I have a custom exhaust. The 300's can still be purchased for a damn good price compared to their Dodge counterparts. It comes down to your opinion on the body style.
When I had my second child I needed a 4 door car. Bought a 2008 dodge charger rt plus. Owned it for 8 trouble free years and 65k miles. I had it lightly modified with a ram air hood by amerihood, tune, exhaust, and LED lights. It was perfect for my growing family and I was still able to have fun with it. And it had great aftmarket support. Now own a 22 scat pack charger I got for 2k under sticker. (BECAUSE OF YOUR VIDEOS LOL!)I would definitely recommend the rt trims they are great if you are at a point in your life where the price and life situation make sense. Love the video.
I once drove a RT 5.7 6 speed manual, it was plenty of fun to drive it accelerates with a lot of torque off the line and it feels plenty fast to enjoy.
I was so close to getting a Scat back in July. Local dealerships were pushing them hard. I really wanted the 5.7 and actually had to drive out of state to get one. I’m glad I did. Now that they will be discontinued, I’ll drive it and sell it later on for a minimal loss. Since Dodge isn’t going to have anything to replace it. I’ll probably end up getting a GT350. I grew up with my parent working at a Dodge dealership. It sucks they are being discontinued.
WV totally agree. I ordered a Scat that is coming in this month. Can’t believe Dodge is bailing on naturally aspirated V-8’s. Will never forgive them. Take care.
5.7 can use regular gas. I run 87 in mine all the time and have no issues. Would have bought the 6.4 but the price at the pump is significant. I will take the small amount of power loss using 87 in the 5.7 vs the price of 89 at the pump. Good video.
Nice to see someone saying nice things about the R/T. Hope you get one soon so I can watch the mods. You are so right about the availability of the R/Ts. Thanks for the video.
Back in the day, around 2014, Dodge had the ScatPack stage program where you can get mods straight from Dodge for your R/T. Similar to the direct connection they have now. Basically it was a 3 stages starting with a cat pack and a tune to a heads and cam package and you’ll come out with a little more than what a stock 392 scat would have. You’d also get a special scat pack bee badge that has the number of what package you have on it similar to how Roush use to put the 1/2/3 on the faux gas caps
Dodge opened up the exhaust from the factory on the 5.7 R/T on or around the 2019 model year... It's the same factory active exhaust system that comes on the 6.4 scats... You can notice a huge difference in sound from the 2019 and up R/Ts compared to 2015-2018 R/Ts... The older 15-18 R/T models absolutely need a mid muffler delete, but the 2019 and up actually sounds pretty dam good in stock form...
Did this 2 years ago with my R/T during the “pandemic” best decision I ever did with my car. Full bolt on from top to bottom, E85, tune, a little weight reduction not much and a little suspension not much and I pass on stock scats with ease no cam necessary. The car made 385 WHP. It was fun doing the work myself, I learned alot and thats what made it fun instead of just buying an overpriced Scat.
Love mine, got about 20k in it including buy it, and making almost 700hp. Easy to build them up. A scat is much harder since you can’t use forced induction without making major changes to the entire engine set up.
@@ryancaoo5503 supercharger, a camshaft I had custom ground, and naturally supporting things like headers, a proper dyno tune afterwards, and heads from a hellcat. Making 674hp right now. Looks like a v6 since I took the factory spoiler off so it’s a great sleeper lol.
@@crimsonlight4205 that’s awesome dude I’ve been thinking about making a sleeper as well I’m just worried im gonna mess the car up adding all of that, have you had any major problems?
@@ryancaoo5503 not at all. Engine has 200k miles on it. I’m gonna swap it to a 6.1 later on so I didn’t bother with any external upgrades like forged pistons or anything. I didn’t even put new rings in it. As long as you don’t go crazy with the boost on the supercharger your fine. Now I lucked out on mine, it’s a manual rt with an srt package so it’s got srt suspension and the same transmission and rear end that the older manual hellcats had. An automatic would need all of that upgraded.
@@crimsonlight4205 sound real fun man enjoy it, know lot of people including myself who would love to have all that stuff thrown on the car, but money doesn’t grow on trees haha. Also, how much of that 20k was spent on labor? I have a little experience myself i feel like maybe i could do some work myself.
Owner of a 2014 R/T Challenger though it’s a rebuilt title I love it and the memories me and my dad had with finding it, buying it, and fixing it together will stick with me forever. Definitely planning on modding the living hell out of it once I get used to the power of it. I’ve driven a few cars in my life since graduating high school and nothing compares to the feel of an R/T Challenger.
Hey Xman, I owned a 2015 R/T and now I drive a 2018 R/T Scatpack. Back when I traded my 15 in on my Scatpack there was only about a 6k difference in base price in the two so I’m sure you’re right especially since there were no markups on the Scats! In fact I even got a couple of k in promotional moneys! 😎 Just glad I did what I did now that I look back on it!
Man, EVERYTHING changed after COVID. Previously the R/T was around $30-35k, & the Scat was like $38-42k. When they still had the SRT 392, which is quite different than what the Scat Pack was at that time, it was around $55k. My '15 R/T actually increased in value last year, according to KBB; but is now starting to come back down. What's scary though is seeing a '15 Chally identical to mine for sale at the same price today that I paid for mine in 2017.
If ... the R/T 345ci/5.7L was available with the Adaptive Suspension, I'd have an R/T 345. Slightly cheaper insurance, not stolen as frequently, cheaper to operate (89 octane vs 93 octane and 5W-20 vs 0W-40). But that Adaptive Suspension option on the Scat Pack (standard on the Wide Body) makes a big difference in the ride.
I really don't understand all the hate for the RT.The RT is still an awesome car.Ive owned my RT AWD for about 4 years now and been wanting to upgrade to a scat but changed my mind due to the cardemic of stolen scats. When I do choose to get something else I would probably rather just get another RT but maybe a Challenger.
I've driven both, would definitely go with the scatpack. If you're looking for a car to mod, I wouldn't buy a charger/challenger, you should look to a camaro or a mustang for builds.
@@doloressalgado3427 what year and what engine? Was it brand new? No modern mustang is going to blow from mods, you can put on to 15lbs of boost on a bone stock 5.0 and it won’t blow on stock internals.
Just picked up a 2023 RT Plus with the performance handling group and brembos etc. It sounds fantastic, its quick, and has plenty of torque. I had a 2020 Scat Pack a few years ago. It was cool too, and I could have bought another one this time around. Ended up getting the RT for a few grand under MSRP. The Shaker Scat they had sitting next to it had a dealer markup of $5k over. It was tempting, but I couldn't justify it. Even though the RT isn't as fast overall, it actually can put most of the power down. The Scat I had would get smoked by slower cars because it couldn't hook. Both great cars! If you want a new one, better hurry. The dealer I bought from had 2 RTs and 2 Scats, and that was it.
Got my R/T last week. Oh man, I fell in love with that thing. I drove an SXT (a loaner) a little while back and knew the Challenger (with the exception of the Hellcat) was gonna be my next car. A couple of things: it gets noticed A LOT, especially the popo; while driving, people get out of your way. LOL
I don't feel one bit bad about getting my Shaker RT. I found a 2016 with 14K miles for just under $30k and I'm loving it. That was recently as this September. So if you take some time and look, you can find them.
After my son said he wanted a Challenger I decided to buy my 2019 R/T Plus over a Scatpack because of your video you put out 2 years ago. Plus aside from me loving to mod my vehicles, I couldn't for the life of me find a Scatpack the was a manual transmission like my R/T Plus is.
I traded my '15 sxt for a '19 RT charger earlier this year and I've been super happy with it! It's fully loaded with the plus package, handling group/performance package, etc. It's plenty of power for me personally and even sounds really good stock. Only thing I might do is some visual things like the SP snorkel grille. Overall I'm happy I got this car. Sure the SP is faster but its just not worth all the extra money to me personally.
I went in dealership trying to get a base scat pack and ended up leaving with a fully loaded 2021 charger rt for 39k with 700 miles. I think i got a good deal with it. I just added the snorkel grille. It was 104 from mopar
@@moochiehbtl_ wow thats a great deal! how hard was it to install the snorkel grille? I was thinking of ordering it and seeing if a shop near me would install it but if its not too hard i might just save money and do it myself.
@@brody8857 so i work at the service center of a dodge dealership of where i even bought the car from. i don’t believe it’s hard. i jus paid a technician to install it. just taking bumper off and i believe the grille snaps off easily and jus apply the newer grille.
You can also get a wide body kit from direct connect and install it with a new wheel and tire setup. I thought about doing that on the RT with demon wheels since the RT has the 4 piston brembos on the front.
Love my RT. I have a direction I want to go in my head within the next year and a half. It's going to be something completely different and unique. Can't wait
There's plenty of videos of people building over 600hp with very modest upgrades in the 5.7 AND its more reliable than the 6.4 with those numbers. I've even seen a video where I guy and his friend compare chargers, 5.7 and 6.4 The 5.7 got an intake, tune, headers and it was able to keep upto the 6.4
Just paid off my 2019 charger rt and was thinking about getting a scat pack but you convinced me to now keep it and mod it. Probably saved me a lot of money too 😂
This is refreshing to hear because I was thinking about trading in my 21 RT for a Scat, but I'm priced out of my budget with the markups! Thanks for showing the RT some love. We don't get many videos highlighting these trims. I know a guy that has an RT and he put a lot of money into it and given a few Scats a run for their money! Also I'll add it's a decent daily driver.
We're planning on ordering a 5.7 R/T. Just waiting for Dodge to finally update the build and price tool so we can decide on options and color. Apparently a couple options packages were changed or combined for 23
You should go to a dealer soon, what is on the website isn't always accurate to what can actually be ordered. Ie, smokeshow paint is gone even though its on the dodge site. You'll love your ride though!
I have gone to a dealer. Unfortunately they don't have an allocation anymore but I was able to look at what options have changed or been combined. I'd just like a better description than what the dealer website showed, plus being able to see the colors coming back on the display car will be helpful. The nearest dealer with allocations is about 3 hours away now from the looks of it
@A Stanton1966 hoping not to. Definitely avoiding any dealers with markups and getting the price in writing and signed. If we don't get one, then oh well, we're not desperate.
I have the exact same model 2020 Challenger RT Plus in Frostbite blue but with an auto trans. For me it's plenty power,It's my daily and the mpg isn't bad. I love it tho!!! It has the tazer and pedal commander, the line lock works awesome!!
@The Last chicken On earth exhaust.. intake throttle body tune larger injectors headers(long tube)... I few other thijgs.. I gotta look back it's been awhile... but off the jump traction is important... I went 22x 10 for grip...helps off the line but takes a little off the top end
I bought my brand new 2019 R/T in December of 2019 . Iy has the manual transmission and enhansed exhaust. I still get compliments of the sound and cranberry color. The car sticker was 27350.00. The dealer added 2,700.00 to the cost which I wasn't happy about but was non negotiable. I still feel I got 1 Hell of a deal compared to today prices. There were a total of 6 for this price. My original plan was to trade up to a scat pack after 3 or 4 years. Unfortunately I refuse to pay over 20,000 for a scat pack. Cheapest scat new I can find is 51,000. I like my paynents under 400.00. Maybe ill invest 10,000 into my 5 7 instead, I've only got 15000 miles on it. Thanks for the info.
I disagree with most of you. I had a 21 Challenger RT for a very short time and sold it to buy a 22 Scat Pack widebody. I liked the RT but it didn't seem a whole lot faster than my Charger GT. I love my Scat Pack. Always puts a smile on my face.
I agree, when I upgraded from my 5.7 Shaker to my Challenger Scat, it was like night and day. Stick to the SRT Products, way better power, and all around driving experience, competitive on the street and the dragstrip.
My wife just bought a 2021 R/T with the shaker hood. Absolutely beautiful car. I'm a die hard camaro guy ( have a Z/28) But that Challenger has a wonderful ride, and looks/sounds fantastic. I'm really leaning to Challengers now. Good videos! Keep em coming
I drive a 2018 345 R/T Charger, pearl white gloss, sitting on 22 inch American Racing rims. 100k miles and purrrs baby! Upgrades are 3 &1/4 inch straight pipes, 4 inch throttle body, Spectre cold air intake and housing. Last thing is to have it cammed. After having it tuned I'm pulling about 430Hp which is pretty good gains for my money. Everything ran me about $4500. I still want to upgrade the body kit, naturally a wide body but I can take my time, I'm in no rush. I'm in love with my "Mustang eater" lol. My wife loves to drive it and my kids love to ride in it. Get you a 345 people!!! I promise you'll love it too!!!
I own a 07 gt modded it over this year and I love my mustang but I have always thought that these was great looking cars. I will probably if my health and everything gos good end up getting one used and seeing what kind of power we can get outta it ❤
Lol Racer X, I bought my 16 Charger RT/Blacktop on Jan 2nd 2019. It was bought from a local dealership, owned and driven by the (Dealership's) Owners Wife, and I got it for $20,000 (23,500miles) with a trade in of a 08' V-6 Grand Cherokee with a blown head gasket. What a World now!
Also, you're correct. The R/T has always been cheaper and less desirable. LOL, best highway cruiser I've ever seen tho! 4cylnder mode/27.5mpg AVG highway, Infotainment system, and the seats/cabin space is INCREDIBLE for the price!
I have a 2023 5.7 RT on order. This will be my first V8 vehicle ever. I am excited and your videos really helped me make my decisions. I do plan on modding in the future as well. And yes that does include 1 maybe 2 turbos one day.
I got a 2021 RT charger brand new last year. Get a intake for your 1st mod. It makes a big difference. The RT will hang with any scatpack up until about 80 mph if they're both stock. It's a great car. Don't listen to what others with faster cars say
@@elstaywinning5735 both a regular wheel base rt and scat on 245 wide tires is the exact same 0-60,I’m gonna do throttle body cold air intake with a hellcat air box and grill and a good cat back exhaust, then after warranty long tubes high flow cats and a 93 tune
This is why I love his content and I’m subscribed to his channel. He’s a real car guy and enthusiast so he understands building cars I’m only 25 but I grew up where cards were built but I’m not against anyone who buys higher trims if you can afford it get it but also don’t crap on lower trims because everyone can’t afford what you have and some actually prefer lower trims because they love the process of building. But of course you Can build your higher trim level as well but the satisfaction of having a lower trim and beating higher trims make you smile ear to ear
I have a manual 2022 RT and wouldn't trade it for a Scatpak. I plan on moding mine. I have gotten a quote of around $13k to take it to 600+ whp. The RT truly makes more sense right now. Bought for $41k, $13k in mods= $53k. Still cheaper than a Scatpak
Thank you so much man you helped me make my decision going to pick my RT up tomorrow. It’s a 2016 60,000 miles pay 23,000 for. It’s an RT plus actually.
Man how times have changed!! I bought my loaded 2016 Challenger Hellcat with 2800 miles for $49K in like new condition back in 2018... Now challenger/charger owners have to seriously worry about theft on top of the astronomical dealer markups😒 Great points about the RT over the scatpack. The 392 does not like FI/boost either without extensive modification where you might as well just buy a hellcat. Check out DadMods charger scatpack supercharged build to get an idea of how crazy it can get. www.youtube.com/@DadMods/videos
I bought my wife her dream car.a green go rt shaker 6 speed...not the fastest car we own.but it is a cruiser.get commitments at every gas station and drive through...fun shifting gears...
Great argument. I agree with you the RT is a good viable option. I would drive a stock RT and still have a blast with it. I have a cat and scat and still thinking of getting an RT. One day we will look up and they will be scarce.
I have the Daytona 5.7 and almost have it paid off with less than 50k miles. I'm seriously considering making it a project car and boosting it. If I continue to take care of it, I think boosting it is a real option. Thoughts?
I have to agree about going the RT route, there's nothing wrong making a sleeper out of that car, a great way to go. In addition powernation TV did a build on the 5.7 RT, I am sure it's on RUclips also, check it out. Thank you RacerX I always enjoy your content, catch you on the next one!
I purchase a 2021 Dodge Challenger R/T Lease car 12000 miles on it ,not too badly abused.First mod was katskin leather seats front and back with R/T stitching. (My first leather)Second mod was a Redeye Hellcat 3.9 LSD Diff.Third mod was HellCat lower cold air intake.Fourth mod BBK 87MM ported throttle body.fifth mod was Peddle Commander.Sixth Mod MMX hellcat shorty header and high flow cats.Seventh mod port to fit intake manifold.I payed off each mod before going to the next. I'm not a racer. I don't go to the track. My R/T is a daily driver to work and back with some fun on the week ends.each mod has been a pleasure. most I did myself. Just over $5000.00 of add ons This R/T has more power then I will ever use. I enjoy doing the studying and research for the mods, Did all mods before seeing this cast.
Just a few months ago traded an 18 RT+ for a new 392 Shaker and honestly the set of pants feel is really not a lot of difference but gas mileage wow. The RT got better than 21 the 392 gets 19 at best but really around 16 so I find my self leaving the Shaker at home and driving anything else in the yard. In fact if the prices really start shooting up after Dodge stops making them it is gone. If not it become a garage queen on battery tender.
I thought I was the only 1 who felt the same. While getting the oil changed in my 22 Challenger R/ T 6 speed manual, I test drove a scat pak 8sp auto and was wondering why I wasn't feeling this dramatic difference like I expected, and the fun factor completely diminished going from my 6 speed manual to the auto. They tried to upsell me, but based on my test drive, I couldn't justify it.
Love my 2021 r/t ! I bought it used with only 11k miles on it, like brand new! …I dont race if i did scat or cat all day… for a daily that doesn’t need premium gas and your insurance is not jacked, but still sounds mean and looks BA 😎 cant go wrong… once the warranty is up i will start doing a couple performance mods, im almost done with cosmetic mods just need a front splitter
Once mine ends warranty that’s my goals 410 or so figure I’ll do it slow remove back seats and other things air intake exhaust maybe a tune amd 420 east even 405 good enuf even now it’s fast for Street I don’t wanna loose license or tickets and now adays they’ll take you’re license for racing in street who wants that
@@elstaywinning5735 I’ve done full exhaust, long tube header, hell cat intake and a tune on 100 octane here in New Zealand which i think is a 93 tune in the states. Also have 275 nitto invos on the rear. Check out my videos
I own a 2013 v6 charger, and I love it. Recently, I was in the market for a new car, I really wanted a scat or an RT, but because of the markups and everything, I ended up going with a 2020 Ram 1500 BigHorn, it was way cheaper than a scat, my ram cost me 37,000. I could never get a scat for that cheap. But I love the 5.7! Its easy to mod, tried and true! Sounds great and puts some torque down!
So spending $10,000 on a 5.7 to make it equal the 6.4 power level will void your warranty if that matters to you, so you might as well get the 6.4. However, if you are not racing, there is nothing wrong with the 5.7, it is a very good engine.
@@artillerybuff2000 You know what? With the quality control problems since COVID, you probably are better off not modding anything newer than a 2019. You'll probably need that warranty, but I say do what makes you happy.
Scat Pack puts a 👗 dress on that 5.7. Both great cars. I have both. That 6.4 does what you want it to do. Hit it!!! It hits you back twice!!!! Sideways Easily!!!✌🏽
I have a 2021 RT Plus, lightly moded (I did a 3" catback and Hellcat lower airbox). I thought I paid high for the car last year from Dodge, but after seeing the price gouging now I'm happy with the choice I made considering that it's fully loaded.
@@BamaT_251 I'm not sure. I haven't dyno'd it. I don't expect it to have picked up much power, but it sounds nice. I went with the competition magnaflow catback, which is more of a deeper tone/grumble. In the future, I plan on doing a lot more to it. I did the catback and lower airbox almost immediately after I got the car. Haven't done much else to it since.
Your 100% right I feel like the 5.7 fills the niche "everything you want that's a need"
Agreed 100%

And to add extra HP if they want the mods aren't expensive... its a fun and affordable vehicle to play with!
Me, still building my career haha
I really love how you are so unbiased and fair when reviewing cars. For someone who owns 1000+ hp cars to say an RT has a lot of punch is actually oddly wholesome

Back in the early 70’s the R/T was the highest rated performance car you could basically order. There nothing bad or cheesy regarding the R/T. It is actually as you stated the best bang for your dollar right now. Especially with an economy getting ready to fall off a cliff and inflation going through the roof.
In the 60's too
Yup RT was king.Vanishing point even made the RT cooler.I don't care what anybody says the RT is still an awesome car.
Yup, the R/T was a trim package back then with different engine options. Just like it is now.. The Scat Pack is an R/T also..

Yes go for it! I had one built and ordered in 2021! Very fun car, and great daily driver for a muscle car.
Don’t waste your money get the 392. I own the 392 a 5.7 and 3.6. And the difference from each motor is massive.
My 5.7 would leave my 3.6 in the dust. The 3.6 can’t even get out of its own way.
Great trim/color choice! 2010 rt 6spd bought new, then Procharger and so on. I love the 5.7 Driving only in summer, still only 37k on the clock.
I think it would be a game changer if they kept the 5.7 Hemi around but with a twist(more power in the engine)
@@Shelby_Moe5.2 Yeah, I agree. Also finding a way to reduce some weight would help as well..

I own a 2015 challenger R/T and I love how you don’t give it a bad rep like a lot of people nowadays, I appreciate how you make it feel a little more appreciated, I love your channel!
If they made the R/T in Widebody trim, I would jump on it in a heartbeat. Once the widebody trims came out, i've always wanted one.
Buy an aftermarket wide body kit. It’s a little expensive but I think it would be worth it considering they don’t make a wide body RT.
Just put fender flares and wheel spacers on it, jesus.
@@topdawgtyy_Yeah people don’t take note of that just say “oh put a kit on it” there’s more to that. Not that simple

Why was the RT your favourite of all your challengers ?
Just bought my own RT Challenger this week!
WRX STI's came standard with front and rear Brembo brakes starting in 2004...and a transmission that can handle 900+ horsepower.

The RT would be a great go fast project for your channel. There are more RT's out there than anything.
More Gts
I put an E-Force supercharger on my 5.7: more horsepower than the 6.4 and a lot les money.
Yeah he should do a series on it
I love my ‘22 RT.
Two questions:
How do the suspension and handling of the R/T compare with the Scat Pack?
Is the 5.7L engine has reliable as the 6.2L.
Wow. I bet the suspension upgrade was a win. I have a 2020 RT.
Same here brother 🤜🏾🤛🏾
What mods did you fo
But the Scat comes with more features
Did mine. Texas speed cam kit, headers exhaust and tune. Absolutely love it.
I enjoy both worlds my wife has the 5.7 RT and I have the 6.4 Scat Pack . Great video RacerX! 😁👍

Both cars are badass street muscle 💪. After chatting with B Mason about it, instead of modding, I upgraded from the 5.7 Shaker 6 speed to the 6.4 - 8 Speed Automatic. I am much happier in the 6.4, with the TF Tranny...
I have a 2019 R/T with a shaker package and Wheel package, plenty of horse power and speed for me! love it!
I just traded in a 2020 Mustang GT basic for a 2022 Scat Charger loaded. I never liked the plastic oil pan and drain plug on the Mustang.
Yeah 3 short years ago a plain jane hellcat was right around 50k. Shame
I bought a slightly used '20 gt premium. 8600 miles. 43 grand.
Pandemic Inflation is in full effect... even Beef is up.
Negative. Best bang for your buck is the Camaro LT1 V8 with 455. It’ll cost you about $36,000
I love my RT. I'm a family man in my mid 30s. Have 6 kids and a wife. I can't easily afford an $50,000 car. The RT fit my budget and I feel dope in it.
6 kids!!! Man you been busy😂😂😂
The RT is a great street car. Its power is very accessible if you want it, but also very comfortable.
Not as nice looking though, imo.
But, isn't the stock 3.90 gear a pretty stout gear already?

My previous Challenger was a 13 R/T Black Top Edition M6 with Borla exhaust and cold air intake. It was a blast to drive.
Nah your 300c is still trash
Until all those features don't work anymore
A cool package combo is the R/T performance handling group. You get most of the suspension and the big brake kit from the 6.4 scat in the R/T.

Take care.

@@jwp882000 Congrats on your Scat! I have wanted a Challenger for years. I’ve had it 5 months and smile every time I get in it.
5.7 can use regular gas. I run 87 in mine all the time and have no issues. Would have bought the 6.4 but the price at the pump is significant. I will take the small amount of power loss using 87 in the 5.7 vs the price of 89 at the pump. Good video.
Gotta pay to play….6.4 are fun but I’m sure it’s guys with Hellcats who can say the same
Nice to see someone saying nice things about the R/T.
Yes this is back when Dodge cared about their customers and had a brotherhood
Dodge opened up the exhaust from the factory on the 5.7 R/T on or around the 2019 model year... It's the same factory active exhaust system that comes on the 6.4 scats... You can notice a huge difference in sound from the 2019 and up R/Ts compared to 2015-2018 R/Ts... The older 15-18 R/T models absolutely need a mid muffler delete, but the 2019 and up actually sounds pretty dam good in stock form...

2017 and up . 2017 is when dodge started putting the same active exhaust that is in scats and hellcats in the R/Ts
I would get the handling group on any RT, brembo brakes and basically SP susp and diff etc.
Did this 2 years ago with my R/T during the “pandemic” best decision I ever did with my car. Love mine, got about 20k in it including buy it, and making almost 700hp. Easy to build them up. A scat is much harder since you can’t use forced induction without making major changes to the entire engine set up.

I've driven both, would definitely go with the scatpack. If you're looking for a car to mod, I wouldn't buy a charger/challenger, you should look to a camaro or a mustang for builds.
My friend owned a mustang and did some mods nothing major engine blew that is all you hear about mustangs
LOL
Crazy price increases, not even 2 years ago you could get an R/T for mid $30's but now they're wanting $40K for an R/T, just nuts.
More like 50😂 I saw one for 51K on a dodge website
I'm saying! I got my 2021 R/T USED with a base price of $38k. Total price after taxes I believe was $42k. 13k miles when I left the lot.
I got a 2023 rt and paid 54k all said and done. Brand new 2 miles
Honestly the 5.7 with active exhaust sounds better than the 6.4. The extra 115hp is wonderful If you put fat tires on it.
I couldn’t decide between a 2023 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack or a 2024 Ford Mustang GT-so I bought both. 🤠
Savage 😎
I like the 5.7 in my Ram 1500.
I LOVE the 6.4 in my Challenger!
Check out R/T Life he did it
The aftermarket flares are crap and don’t really give you the proper room for wider wheels.
Love my RT. I have a direction I want to go in my head within the next year and a half. It's going to be something completely different and unique. Can't wait
Put some tire lettering. Tredwear is the website. Check it out
There's plenty of videos of people building over 600hp with very modest upgrades in the 5.7 AND its more reliable than the 6.4 with those numbers.
I've even seen a video where I guy and his friend compare chargers, 5.7 and 6.4
The 5.7 got an intake, tune, headers and it was able to keep upto the 6.4
Just paid off my 2019 charger rt and was thinking about getting a scat pack but you convinced me to now keep it and mod it.
What are you talking about? Just buy a used 392 that's the same price as your 5.7
You'll thank me later
@@stevenbrown5210 nobody wants a used 392. Most ppl dog them shits out. A used scat still coat more by a few grand unless you want one with 40k miles
The nearest dealer with allocations is about 3 hours away now from the looks of it
Watch out you don't get aced-out in the last year rush.
Thanks for all the great content X! I appreciate you!
Thank you so much Gary. I really appreciate your support as always. I appreciate the super thanks as well buddy
I love my R/T... lots of inexpensive mods made lots of difference... have no problem keeping up with scats!
What mods ?
Calling cap no way you’re getting scat speeds without dropping at least $10k in mods
@Quinn calling cap? You a G or something? I didn't say I was beating them but I'm sure not getting smoked...
@The Last chicken On earth exhaust.. intake throttle body tune larger injectors headers(long tube)... I few other thijgs.. I gotta look back it's been awhile... but off the jump traction is important... I went 22x 10 for grip...helps off the line but takes a little off the top end
Caaap wasting money could of just got a gt if u wanted to go fast an mod
I'm a die hard camaro guy ( have a Z/28)
But that Challenger has a wonderful ride, and looks/sounds fantastic.
I'm really leaning to Challengers now.
Good videos! Keep em coming
I appreciate you for standing up for us rt drivers video after video 😂😂
I will probably if my health and everything gos good end up getting one used and seeing what kind of power we can get outta it ❤
Lol Racer X,
I bought my 16 Charger RT/Blacktop on Jan 2nd 2019.
Bout ordered a 23 but they had a 22 on the lot that was almost what I was gonna order haha
Enjoy bro 😎
@@meechryles7072 I have been and will continue thanks 😄
I got a 2021 RT charger brand new last year. Get a intake for your 1st mod. It makes a big difference. The RT will hang with any scatpack up until about 80 mph if they're both stock. It's a great car. Don't listen to what others with faster cars say
@@elstaywinning5735 both a regular wheel base rt and scat on 245 wide tires is the exact same 0-60,I’m gonna do throttle body cold air intake with a hellcat air box and grill and a good cat back exhaust, then after warranty long tubes high flow cats and a 93 tune

Can build your higher trim level as well but the satisfaction of having a lower trim and beating higher trims make you smile ear to ear

Man how times have changed!! I bought my loaded 2016 Challenger Hellcat with 2800 miles for $49K in like new condition back in 2018...
Now challenger/charger owners have to seriously worry about theft on top of the astronomical dealer markups😒
Great points about the RT over the scatpack. The 392 does not like FI/boost either without extensive modification where you might as well just buy a hellcat.

Thoughts?
I’m not a dodge fanatic but I do know the 5.7 have more potential than the 6.4!! And can produce so much power and handle it I say go for It
rocking a 5.7 T/A here and i love it
I currently own a Daytona R/T and I do agree it is a better deal especially if you’re planning to do some serious mods.

My thing is not to compete with a Scat Pack my thing is to get into the 400 range

@Dan Wright I saw them. Nice runs. What kinda headers and what kinda tune you have?
This is not true. The act of modding a vehicle doesn't void the warranty. The warranty is voided if the mod is the cause of a failure.
@DJ G-Roc Good luck with that. Even a simple tune will void the drivetrain warranty, then alone mechanical mods. But go ahead, it's your $$$$$
@@artillerybuff2000 You know what? With the quality control problems since COVID, you probably are better off not modding anything newer than a 2019. You'll probably need that warranty, but I say do what makes you happy.
