Back in 2021, I was fixated on a scat pack challenger. My car guy actually recommended me to drive a 5.7 hemi and needless to say, I bought a brand new 2020 Challenger RT and have never regretted it!
I really enjoy my 2021 3:02 Charger RT. It’s my 3rd car with the 5.7. I also have a Jeep GC with the 5.7 and I owned a 2013 Charger RT max. The 5.7 is a great power train, runs 0-60 in 5.2 on the street, gets 28 mpg on the highway, mid-grade gas and the insurance is not overwhelming - top speed with the Daytona option is limited to 150 mph. Runs fast enough for me.
I never even thought twice either. It was 392 all the way. But now with increased gas prices and the absurd price of the 392 cars now I think the 57 car would have to be looked at seriously.
I have never owned, Ive driven V8s before, so after a couple of years, I finally bought my used RT automatic, I like it a lot, it has enough power for me, Im not into racing, I like the V8 rumble, I would say it has adequate power. Put new ceramic brake pads, new spark plugs, had the all checked out, new tires, 75k miles but runs firm and strong.

Wow great price!!! Yeah we totally overlooked that trim originally - that was a mistake. The value is not on the upper trims - scat and above - the RT seems to the the perfect package, especially in the manual. And there’s a ton of discounts right now.

I got my Challenger RT back in 2021. I went with the 5.7 because it was the lowest trim level available with a manual transmission. Once I hit second gear during the test drive, I knew the car was coming home with me.
I did a lot of looking before i got my R/T. I found both an R/T and a scat pack. I ended up getting the R/T to save some money. I love my car. LOVE IT. but i won't lie, I always think about that scat pack. at the end of the day i just wanted a great looking and sounding car. I dont race anymore like i did when i was younger so why waste the money if im not going to be going fast? The R/T is an amazing car!
I bought a RT Classic PCP 6spd new in 2010 and still have it today. I could have bought a SRT version for $10K+ more but I can saw without hesitation that the I LOVE the RT but I am a long time die hard Mopar guy. I have a 5.7 in my 71 charger as well with a 5 speed, nothing against the 6.4 but the added cost is not worth the reward almost in every case.
I think the media had everybody hooked on the 392s and hellcats even myself, but needless to say I went to a dealership for a scat and test drove a charger RT and everything that the media and people were saying about it being slow and not being enough power was thrown out the window I fell in love with my 22 charger and for 30k out the door was enough for me to drive off the lot. I get compliments all the time and people ask me what's under the hood because they can't believe it's a 5.7. Plus my insurance and payments are a ton less than a new scat pack.
These reviewers are usually so out of touch with regular drivers. There’s one channel bros 4 speed or something kept acting like it was slow. But I’m glad I went with my gut and test drove an R/T. It’s about the same 0-60 as my 370z so it’s plenty for me. Got a white R/T last week with all the upgrades : Brembo brakes, performance suspension, 20 inch black forged wheels, Alpine speakers, and the blacktop package ).
When I went to buy my 21' track ready Challenger R/T, I went in with eyes open. At this point I was driving a 06 Magnum R/T and had driven a few 392 cars the cost to scratch the itch just didn't merit the price they wanted. The R/T hits that sweet spot it also has more potential for growth then other powertrains those being nearly fully optimized already.
I'm going tomorrow to see a 2023 Challenger RT Plus fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. $54000 MSRP, dealer is selling for $34500. That's almost $20000 off! If there is no surprises on the price and its available for the sale price I believe I will buy it. Its a beautiful car and the RT is plenty of speed for me. I don't need the 392. I'm an old man.
@GuysTalkingCars Update. Yes I bought it. Amazing I got it for 19500 off Msrp. I am SO GLAD I waited for the right time and price. She is incredible. I put a little $$ down also and after tax title and doc fee my total finance amount was $32,870.
I just bought the 345 cubic inch 5.7l RT Last Call edition. I like it, plus more fun for me with thr 6 spd manual. I won't win races with 375 horsepower but im having more fun driving and on my commute so all good.
I truly feel I have my first muscle car. I got my first 5.7 Hemi and have had it for 2 months and love it. BUT I would not drive it as a daily because it’s still a V8
2019 Challenger TA RT. I NEVER see a TA in my area and I live in Fl. Lots of beautiful cars here. Never found a twin. Great on gas with the 4 cyl. Mode. Put shortie headers an exhaust and im happy.
Like I stated in one of your other videos, I have a 2021 Widebody Challenger Scat Pack R/T 392 T/A with the 6-speed Tremec and a 2017 Ram Laramie Crew Cab with the 5.7 Hemi. The 5.7's can be easily turbo or super charged with almost little modification and a tune, and be brought up to Scat Pack horsepower and beyond, to almost Hellcat numbers. My Ram with the 5.7 already makes 400 horse naturally aspirated in it's stock form. I have a K&N cold air kit from my 2015 Ram Tradesman I'll be installing and putting the same Magnaflow Street Series Dual Exhaust System I had on my 2015. So the Challenger with the 5.7 is a wise choice considering all the aftermarket support it has. You could buy the Widebody kit from Vicrez, (and I think there are others that sell them), slap a set of 20 inch 305's, and instant Scat Pack look alike. You won't have the Adaptive Suspension that comes with the factory Scat's Widebody option and maybe not the Performance Pages, but who actually uses that all the time? I drive my Scat and I usually have the screen for the MP3 player or satellite radio, while I'm listening to the engine.
I just bought a R/T and for me it’s a good mix of power with that V8 noise. It’s also better on gas and probably more reliable with cheaper insurance too. 5 seconds to 60 is plenty for me as I usually just cruise around now. I have the upgraded handling and Brembo brakes so it’s the whole package!
You know how when you shop for a new TV a 55inch looks really small at Best Buy amongst the bigger screens but once home it looks great in your living room? Thats kinda what the RT is in that when you separate yourself from all the You Tube vids and hype over Hell Cats, Scats etc you realize the RT is just fine for the type of driving you will do 95 percent of the time. I thoroughly enjoyed mine for the time I had it, one of my favourite things about beyond the obvious was how predictable it was, enough power for some fun but never scares you. Perfect car to start your muscle car journey in.
I disagree, I had a 2012 5.7 R/T Plus paid 37k new and now have 2016 SRT with every option n paid $36k n 25k miles and such a big difference and get better gas milage with SRT and worth the extra money by far n the power n upgrades is so awesome to me best model by far for money!!
I only buy manuals, I was gonna get a Golf GTI, but found an RT for the same price. I am beyond happy. Sure, it's not as nimble, but the speed is the same and the comfort/style is other worldly...also last call.
It really comes down to how much power you want. I had a Charger Scat Pack for 2.5 years and found it to be overpowered. I don't drive like a maniac though and I am now driving a Charger GT. The cars look almost exactly the same, have the same transmission, and even ride on the same tires. It's saving me $360/month and the thieves tend not to be as enthusiastic about the V6s. The R/T is a reasonable compromise if you must have the V8 and it only costs about $100/month more than the GT. In my opinion, with the current incentives, those two trims are the best buys.
Not sure when's the last time you've looked, but now the Scats (non widebody) are being discounted. I'm looking at one for $44k but it's got an Automatic with 1500 miles. But there's lots of Scats being offered with discounts now, unfortunately most are automatics. I will say ive driven both the 6M and automatic and enjoy that legroom in the auto, but miss the control of a 6 speed. I've seen RTs with $12k off, and Scats with $6k. Now what would you choose?
Getting closer to looking at the scat - $44k is tempting. Still feel like prices need to come down more but I’m comparison to even a year ago it’s major progress. If I could get a narrow body new scat under $45k it would be compelling.
@GuysTalkingCars agreed, wasn't long ago the Scat Pack was a $3k option, now it's a $10k trim upgrade. I really enjoyed watching your face as you drove the 6 speed RT, I'm going to drive another manual RT and go from there, thanks ✌️
I had 5.7 RT Charger and it was a great hwy car. it has cylinder deactivation and got 26/28 range yet had enough power to merge and pass during rush hour. If your commute has a lot of hwy miles these cars are the best great seats for long haul .They are not in the city or stop and go traffic. I loved that car but due to job change had to trade it in for a different model.😥
A scat pack will always be worth way more money in the future. If you sell a 5.7 with mods kind of tells people you're building it with aftermarket parts to hot rod it.
Hey GTC….I have a Daytona 5.7L, and I always knew it was the best value. Don’t get me wrong, the Scatpack was the best bang for your buck in terms of power per dollar (nowadays a little less so, because they have been jacking the prices up), but in terms of VALUE, for a Great Car that can give you all and anything you expect from a HEMI…the 345 platform does it for a very reasonable and affordable price. It is PERFECT for a Daily Driver, and still scratching that Hemi Itch…👍💪🏾🙏🏾😎⚓️
The best value is a camaro LT1 ......you can pick it up under 40k with 455hp it’s has the best steering and handling out of the challenger and mustang.......this is coming from a ex 5.7 challenger r/t owner.....I will admit the challenger was a great car not knocking it at all but if you get the chance compare it to an LT1
My Dad rented a Camaro and he said it was the most uncomfortable car he has every driven. He said the ergonomics sucked and the seats felt like he was sitting on a park bench. Then he rode in my 21' Challenger R/T amd commented on seat comfort he said the ergonomics of controls were better but still not the best.

I mean that’s not impressive because the 5.7 was made for a truck in 2003. If it took 20 years for Chevy to compete with the base v8 good for them I guess?
@@SRTGHOSTS Bro?! Wtf? Is this even serious or you trolling? Buddy, V6 Camaro came out about 14 years ago and it was never meant to compete with any V8. Let's be real here, the V6 Camaro handles better but accelerates like a complete joke and sounds like ass. At least a 5.7 sounds better, can usually edge out a V6 in a straight line and has more room inside. Let's be honest here, a 90s Pontiac Trans Am is a better car than any 5.7 challenger. Everything still works and it still gets driven like a Camaro. Pushing 730rwhp on a conservative tune but can do more. Listen pal, I hate that Mopar didn't do a little something more for the 5.7 in this challenger but like I said before, it's a good cruiser. Nothing more and nothing less. I rarely purchase new vehicles but when the C8 Z06 is available at MSRP, that will be my next beast. It will last me well into retirement.

Nice cars my friend!! Well said - keep enjoying those!! 🔥
Well said!! 🔥
Same here brother
Love my ‘23 RT Blacktop. 6k miles. Got her for $33. Steal! Runs great. Did a mid muffler delete and sounds awesome
💯
I'm going tomorrow to see a 2023 Challenger RT Plus fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. $54000 MSRP, dealer is selling for $34500. That's almost $20000 off! If there is no surprises on the price and its available for the sale price I believe I will buy it. Its a beautiful car and the RT is plenty of speed for me. I don't need the 392. I'm an old man.
Wow! Did you end up getting it?
I have a R/T in checking out and looking to buy this weekend 2020 murdered out. I’m needing that power just so I can cruise in low high volume 🥴
@GuysTalkingCars I have an appt at 6pm. I'm going right after work. I will update if I get it later today or no later than tomorrow.
Totally agreed - daily driving it’s more than you need!!
Great comment- tons of valid points here!! The 5.7 is popular for a reason
@@supra3.063 well said!!
i got a 2010 rt classic and im sure it had front damage before lol , but its fun and nice with the 6 speed at least it has 21k miles
Good review and evaluation. Well presented. Well edited.
Thanks 🙏🏻!!
@@MarkMcAllister-ni9sf awesome !!
my 2009 tundra is a 5.7 v8, it has great power. not sure about on the challenger tho but I'm pretty sure it should be the same lol

@@Kevin_Craig thanks for the support! Love the manual option!!
Oh man . . . Sounds like you miss it. I would love to see a 5.7 charger with AWD - they made them for the police cruisers . . .
Idk, I bought a 392 T/A last year and I've been able to pull away easy from a few 5.7s. but yeah nice cars for the price.
💯
I love mu hemi RT Durango it’s been super reliable n very fun to drive for a SUV
Well said!!
Perhaps with the 5.7 RT Challenger less likely to be stolen. Like a scatpact hell cat
Yes agreed - good point
I got a brand new 2020 Challenger R/T for $32K Here in Northern California. Couldn't be happier 😊
Great deal!! 🔥
Bought a 22 challenger Rt. 5.7 hemi is the best proven motor.

i bought a 23 challenger Rt blacktop for 33k otd, discounts on 5.7 are amazing.
The R/T is a far more streetable car than the Hellcats etc in my opinion.
You’re probably right
Not to mention you can mod a r/t , the 392 is pretty much maxed out
💯
Or buy a 392 and already have the power and save yourself the expense and effort
The 5.7 is has ideal compression for boost: more fuel and o2 can be compressed.
Scats are awesome no doubt, but the R/T with the Active Exhaust sounds so good, it needs nothing .. full stop !! 👍
Great perspective!! Thank you !
Great feedback thank you
The camaro ain't family practical tho
@@timothywebb6689neither is the challenger the charger with the 5.7 Would be though.
I just picked up a 2023 RT plus package . $14k off msrp.
Congrats!!

5K of modifications and you can spank that 392. Save yourself five grand and have some fun while doing so
V6 Camaros have been known to beat a 5.7 Challenger. If you don't care about racing, it's probably just a good cruiser.
You get the legendary bulletproof 5.7 LS1 and you actually get better handling, better chassis, more durable parts and better reliability. Get you a 2002 Trans AM WS6. They're still affordable enough to be a bargain, my pal
@@JungSooLeee my point is people brag about beating the 5.7 but don’t acknowledge that it came out in 2003. Especially those import guys with 4 cylinders. I have a 5.7, scat and hellcat. I prefer mopar.
@@SRTGHOSTS I hear ya buddy. I used to be a Mopar guy until my SRT8 challenger shit all over me in so many ways with nickel and dime cheap engineering and parts and god help you with that braking system fiasco. That sheer disappointment is what made me purchase my 2012 ZL1. Almost 14 years later and 149k miles, it has yet to let me down. It's seen track days and drag days. I also need to say the disrespect from Stellantis currently will keep me away from mopar products for years to come. I rarely purchase new vehicles but when the C8 Z06 is available at MSRP, that will be my next beast. It will last me well into retirement.
5.7 Hemi run 4.7 seconds 0-60 and 13.30's in the 1/4 bone stock with 3.06 gear ratio..
The slower ones have 2.82 axle ratio's and those are pretty much the same as a V6 Camaro..But then you have a smaller car with a Camaro, good for women to drive....
Most comfortable for sure

I think it’s all about mileage and ownership - how has it been used? Find a good adult owned and well cared for car and should be OK
