I can only recommend Grasslands and Natural Green on top of A Forest. Grasslands overhauls the (somewhat lacking) grass offered by A Forest, while Natural Green retextures the few trees and shrubs and bushes not touched by either mod to also have leaves. It feels very L4D.

To be honest, I stopped watching him because he shoe horned his gf(?) into things. Granted, you can only see so many body slider and nudity mods before you grow sick off it.
No kidding MxR used to show interesting and useful mods. But now it's just mostly body slider and nude mods. He has grown into a damn degenerate. The same could be say about some of the other Fallout 4 mod reviewers as well. They stop making helpful vids and just mucking about and whatnot.
The Metro series did it very cool since lighting up dark areas was essential. You pulled out a lighter (not a flashlight) and held your weapon with 1 hand, you sacrificed control for being able to see better, obviously for large weapons that wouldn't work but for some 2 handed weapons it makes sense.
I think there was a slight missed opportunity not making that earpiece light mod also come with a chest light accessory. Just having an L-light on the chest would look really clean, and play into the crowd who uses all those tacticool mods.

Try A Forrest along with a lighting mod called Ultra Exterior Lights. It replaces all ambient lighting in the game with all shadow cast lights and makes it look insane.
@@verde5738 BNS is fine but I've found that Another Pine Forest Mod and True Grass give me the perfect balance of trees, overgrowth and minimal FPS loss that I was looking for.
As someone who grew up in the Commonwealth, it's hard finding mods that make me say, "this is what I've been looking for." Especially when I compare the real-life foliage and weather, I see every day. You'd have to expand FO4's map to really get a grasp of Massachusetts' acres and acres of forests, but autumn and winter are gorgeous here, even in the cities. I wish the seasons changed in Fallout 4, along with survival elements too. It can get up to 98° in the summer then down to -2° in the winter.
It boils down to ignoring the canon of previous games combined with a simple dual issue- Bethesda doesn't bother to do much research (problem one) because they are more obsessed with following 1950s and 60s apocalypse trope-filled movie ideas instead (problem two). Yes, both Fallout 1 and 2 had a lot of desert regions... because the areas they took place in ARE deserts (southern California in Fallout 1 and the high desert region of SE Oregon in Fallout 2), and even then you still see a lot of green trees in FO2. Massachusetts would look like nearly pristine forest in most places, with big overgrown mounds of rubble where most buildings stood. Only things made out of solid stone would really last unless maintained. I REALLY want to sit the Bethesda folks down and make them watch Life After People :D EDIT: Oh! While you're right, it should have been in the game as a core mechanic, there ARE mods that allow you to swap out foliage and ground textures for different seasons. Not sure if you're on console or not, but on PC there's a bunch of them

Something that's really interesting. I have mods for both Backpacks, Belts, Flashlights, and Workbenches. And none of them are showcased here lol. I guess it's really impressive how many alternative mods that do the same thing for Fallout 4.
6:15 I think that canonically, the light is coming from your Pip-Boy 10:03 also, Fallout 4 starts in the autumn/fall season, so that's probably why there isn't as much green living plants.
I use the backpack mod & endorse it.I use different mods for each issue like West Tek Tactical optics but all these issues bugged me & I had to find mods for them. Great video! I may replace some of my mod list now.
I agree with you 100% about the regrowth of the Common Wealth after all those years. As a reference to that I point you to Bikini Atoll, we nuked the crap out of that island during the above ground nuclear testing program back in the 40s and 50s. To look at it today you'd never suspect it was rocked by over 20 detonations.
really dope video. That last mod, Forest, alone is getting me hype about downloading FO4 again for a fresh playthrough. Just started playing FO76 for the first time and the world just seems so empty and without mod support I'm falling back to the fun of FO4. Great video!!!
The Forest Mod is great. BUT if you use darker nights and a few "horror" mods with ghouls, better sounds and stuff... holy shit it´s scary to walk trough them at night, especially with rain; cause with darker nights, you see, what you see in real life in the dark with rain: about one meter infront of you without a light. And then some Creep Ghoul runs towards you -> new pants incoming. I keep finding good RUclipsrs to discover new mods that bring life (or death) to Fallout 4 and you are definitly a very good one. Keep up the work :)

Watching this video makes me want to use these mods in a survival permadeath playthrough even though ive never beat the game without some type of cheat mod
I think what Bethesda failed to realize was that the southern West Coast basically already looks like Mad Max and the bombs haven’t even fallen yet. Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, etc are all just forest and nothing but. It would make sense that New England, with its fairly northern climate, would return to an overgrown stat while everything from Northern California to the Texas Gulf would remain a barren, inhospitable desert.
Are there any mods that handle encumbrance more linearly (i.e. slower movement and perhaps AP regen that grow with increasing load)? I ask because that would open the door to a "drop backpack" mod to lighten up for combat. Be a nice immersion combo.
Man, how I wish someone would just make a workbench framework for mods so that everything isn't just thrown in the Chem bench. It'd be an extra requirement but it'd really help streamline mod crafting. Give us a custom weapon bench for all the weapon mods, a custom bench for all the armor mods, custom benches for the utility and ammo mods. Bonus points if some mod authors stop naming their mods like they're a CoD handle.
My biggest problem with all the flashlight mods I've used is they make the flashlight fov to be nearly the entire screen. I prefer what you see in pretty much every other game, where the flashlight fov is restrictive. Otherwise you might as well just freeze time during daytime since night has nearly 0 effect when your entire screen is lit up.
frell.....frell, frell, frell, the utility belt should be called the belt from the gods, about frellin time....how frellin awesome is this belt that also displays your last equiped items, i normally use backpacks of the commonwealth which may i add is also a great mod for this game, I'm sure there is a backpack mod for power armour were you carry a utility belt pack around your waist, but i had trouble getting it to work so i dropped it and that was the last i saw of it, living the craft bench mod, brilliant
A Forest would actually make sense lore wise, 200 years have passed and everything has grown back. (that may have work for Boston but how would that fare in DC which is south of Boston?)
Amazing, I wanted to ask, ¿Have you found envirnment mods to make the Game look like Fallout 3?, The DC was more "Rocky" and "Dead", in Fallout 4 I'm not a fan about so many "Bright colours".

So i came back to the Fallout 4 after i bought new computer, and now i can play it with mods and dont have lags with them. I checked Fallout channels about mods, and i was disapointed after i saw that 90% of the Fallout mod channels are about sex mods, then i found you, Dak.

I've got 112 mods applied with a 1080Ti, still maintain 95-145fps in most places except for the town areas such as near diamond city I drop down to about 75fps. My fav mod is devastation, it overhauls the entire map into a desolate ugly piece of land. Then I went with true storms and all of its add ons, weapons packs, armour packs, new worlds, new quests it's awesome!! Thr vanilla game is boring, so I added some kids where the enemy scales with you; there togher and have better gear and the ai is more adjustable towards a true combat experience. Also downloaded the metro dlc quest, just for the armour LOL so now I look like a metro styled ranger siding with the minute men.. also got buffed minutemen, quicker response time, scaling and overhaul on the castle. Yes I truly handpicked every mod. I can go upto 145 mods but 112 makes the game work smoothly. A friend of mine has 212 mods applied and his game barely runs on his 3080
Far as flash lights go, I used to really like the TNR Aliens shoulder light, it was a really nice alternative to weapons lights, nice and bulky it fit in really well, but for some reason it started crashing my game whenever I clicked past it on the armour work bench menu so I ended up dropping it as I'd need to remember to take it off when crafting and always forgot till I CTD'd, if anyone knows the cause of that one would be really grateful as Id love to reinstall it
I don't really know how realistic the forest is. Keep in mind, the reason the Chernobyl site is overgrown is because it was abandoned. The Commonwealth is not.
Previously, I looked to MxR and Kottabos for FO4 and Skyrim mod reviews. For the past couple years, MxR has concentrated on MxR Plays, and Kottabos has pretty much given up these reviews. Perhaps, they believe FO4 and Skyrim modding is dead and are awaiting the NExt Big Thing, AKA Starfield Thankfully, Dak has proven them wrong. The FO4 modding community is still very active. Hopefully, it will be for many years to come because we canot expect Fallout 5 for 8 to 10 years. Bethesda is throwing its development and artist personnel at Starfield. Nexyt up, after that, is the already announced Elder Scrolls 6. Starfield will launch with many bugs (which is not a criticizm, just a fact) and those bugs will have to be fixed. Starfield DLC will soon be in the works as well. ES6 will require several years beyond Starfield. So, FO4 will be with us for manyh, many years to come. Speaking of Starfield, I hope that Dak is already planning for those mod reviews. Bethesda has announced Starfiled will be very modifiable (they learned and were burned by FO76 non-modifiability). Maybe Dak can launch a new channel just for Starfield mods.
A Forest is the only mod that does not have a heavy performance hit on my system. And have been in my load order since then.

I’ve always wanted a handheld flashlight mod so that I have to choose between my flashlight or my weapon with Darker Nights on.

Make a mod that has moon phases. A big full moon will definitely give you a soft glow, no moon it should be dark.

If I were you I would completely clean out your mod list and select the best mods and most used ones I always try to keep it under 50

I don't really know how realistic the forest is. Keep in mind, the reason the Chernobyl site is overgrown is because it was abandoned. The Commonwealth is not.
Utility Belt mod is no longer around cause the Creator god forbid wanted it leave it up and let someone else take the torch.

Previously, I looked to MxR and Kottabos for FO4 and Skyrim mod reviews. For the past couple years, MxR has concentrated on MxR Plays, and Kottabos has pretty much given up these reviews. Perhaps, they believe FO4 and Skyrim modding is dead and are awaiting the NExt Big Thing, AKA Starfield
Thankfully, Dak has proven them wrong. The FO4 modding community is still very active. Hopefully, it will be for many years to come because we canot expect Fallout 5 for 8 to 10 years. Bethesda is throwing its development and artist personnel at Starfield. Nexyt up, after that, is the already announced Elder Scrolls 6. Starfield will launch with many bugs (which is not a criticizm, just a fact) and those bugs will have to be fixed. Starfield DLC will soon be in the works as well. ES6 will require several years beyond Starfield. So, FO4 will be with us for manyh, many years to come.
Speaking of Starfield, I hope that Dak is already planning for those mod reviews. Bethesda has announced Starfiled will be very modifiable (they learned and were burned by FO76 non-modifiability). Maybe Dak can launch a new channel just for Starfield mods.
