Chris and Gar are part of my favorite Megadeth line-up. Peace Sells is their best album. People tend to praise Friedman and Menza more, but after Rust in Peace I feel Megadeth left the raw aggressiveness behind. Those early Megadeth albums are so raw, added with the jazz influence from Chris and Gar it was the perfect blend.

Right!!! I think Megadeth always has had great guitarist. But ya Chris is my favorite too. I saw an old interview with Marty Friedman and he said the guitarist before him were just average guitarist. I laughed at that. Marty's really good everyone loves tornado and many others but if Chris is an average guitarist than Marty is well below average haha
Thanks for the good interview guys. This is Andy from Fatal Opera. It was pretty awesome to have Chris and David play on The Raven. It is a great tribute to Gar and all of the old fans, including me. It's also cool that I was there when Gar recorded his drum tracks a few years ago. We actually considered several songs for the trio to play on but decided on The Raven. Mustaine was asked to contribute, but generously declined, it's all cool. As for a Fatal Opera tour, who knows. I'm up for it. I feel sorry for whoever has to play Gar's parts though. By the way, Chris also plays on another track with Gar called The Mask of Time that is on the Fatal Opera 3 album. For those who may not know, I put together a compilation of unreleased tracks with Gar playing drums earlier this year. Some of the songs are straight up demos and some are more produced. It is the last recordings of Gar Samuelson. David Ellefson and Chris Poland put the icing on the cake. It's good to be part of this history. I can attest to the fact that David and Chris are great musicians and good men. Peace.
Wow! That's amazing. I'm such a huge fan of gar, I uploaded his drum tracks from killing is my business, he's my favorite drummer, let me know if you ever release more stuff, I also have a discord I made for Megadeth community fans
I used to play sax from 4th grade to 10th grade ...when I started learning guitar I wanted it to sound like the sax .... Chris Poland took it right out of my soul and put it on Megadeth albums ...his solo on tears in a vial is his best piece of work imho
I hung out with Chris a couple of times between sets (OHM) at the Baked Potato in Studio City. My buddy was talking to him about mixing a live recording they were planning, so I tagged along being a huge fan of his work in Megadeth. Chris was just the nicest guy ever, and his playing was insane! I had no idea he was that level of player, his sound was unique and the fusion/metal/rock/jazz style was really another level above what I knew of him.
Cool interview guys. OHM is rad! Poland, a unique and distinctive cat. I was a forum member of the Megadeth discussion boards around '04 - '05, Circa whole catalog Remasters & The System has Failed era. Man, it was full drama, as well as fun. Poland is talking about being screwed over the Rust In Peace demos and not about his work on TSHF. I love Risk and Cryptic Writings too. Saludos de un paisano 🇵🇪
At 29:00 Chris is talking about Rust in Peace, but the interviewer thinks he's talking about System Has Failed, an important distinction to make. Basically what happened was Dave re-released Rust in Peace with demos as bonus tracks and Chris played on the demos before Marty Friedman was hired, so some of the bonus material had Chris Polands playing from like 1989. Chris assumed he was going to get royalties for the demos when they were released and then got mad when he didn't. I'm sure Chris got paid for System Has Failed the way he was supposed to.
I saw the original Megadeth, Miami Beach in May 1987 with Overkill and The Necros, Peace Sells tour. Someone hit a light pole up the street from the Cameo and Megadeth lost power about 5 times and had to keep running off the stage.
So, Chris played on the “Rust In Peace” demos for all songs except “Dawn Patrol” and “Hangar 18”. Man, I’d love to hear those tracks that weren’t on the “Rust” reissue.
Poland's leads on peace sells are some of the best guitar work ever, just listen to the isolated tracks of it from him, no one plays like that, I don't know why he feels inferior to metallica, he's Not.

Best in my opinion
Friedman and Kiko left on their own. Broderick left when they talked about getting the RIP lineup back together. Mustaine also let junior back in after being sued by him so he isn’t as bad as you make him out to be. Plus it’s his band. I’d get rid of junior too trying to sleep with 19 year old girls when he’s damn near 60. The last two Megadeth albums are awesome and Megadeth is going on over 40 years. I’d say Dave has been a lot of things right.
