@@billriddle9215 Wow! Hirax are amazing. I have their album Raging Violence. It's killer. Bombs of Death is a thrash metal crossover classic. They were one of the first bands to use blast beats. And Katon is a legend of course!
I was really impressed with the singer...seen a few interviews by him about those days.Funny thing was I was on vacation with my girlfriend at the time and we did the LA trip thing(Disney,Universal etc.I was kinda bummed on the trip because I was going to miss Megadeth playing in San Fransisco that weekend..but to my surprise they were playing in Long Beach the day before and I just happened to see a flyer in a Long Beach record store and there was the same show.
@@lucb404 Thanks for recommending - I enjoyed it. Interesting to hear the more funky direction with the bass being such a part of the arrangements and you can definitely hear elements of his Jazz background. Those lovely, unexpected twists in the melody are present too.
Chris Poland is and has always been my favorite guitar player in Megadeth. The first two Megadeth albums are MASTERPIECES! I also love Chris's guitar playing on The System Has Failed. Chris is such a cool guy.
That's gotta be tough to wind up busing tables at Denny's after leaving Megadeth just as they got big, after recording and touring the world for three years. Reminds me of how Gary Coleman wound up as a security guard after Different Strokes. But Chris still moved on, kept busy with other projects. It's very difficult to make any kind of living in music, but Chris is a survivor.
Great interview. I like that it started off with the infamous finger incident. I had been trying to find a different radio interview with him talking about that, but couldn't seem to find it. Really excited to see him play with Ellefson, and do some KIMB...ABIG!
Great vid. I can relate to hand injury’s as a guitar player.. in 88 i ran my hand through a window severing my tendon and median nerves . To this day i still have 3 partially numb fingers but I can still play but surgery did not fix it a 100%… thanks for the vid. I had no idea about Chris and his hand issues.
Wow, so sad Chris had to resort to Bussing tables after being such a huge part of a playing on two legendary Albums. Chris’s unique style and sound till this day I feel is some of Thrash’s greatest guitar playing. I am glad he turned it around for himself for the best.
Poland's comments about their use supoorts what I have thought for years. The majority of rockstar drug use (especially with dope) is GREATLY exaggerateed. Hardcore users probably wouldn't even consider what most of them did as even a habit. If you had a long time, high dose habit, it would take more than a couple of weeks to feel good enough to play. If you were kicking after years, you wouldn't be able to play. A hardcore junkie simply wouldn't be able to tour..especially not internationally. The guys who did were able to pull it off would hoard methadone and always have that as a last resort.
Never believed Mustaine did as much drugging as he claimed. He certainly didn't look it. I think he was a habitual liar and a great exaggerator. Hetfield's trips to rehab were more about sex addiction than anything else
Chris Poland is my favorite Megadeth guitarist which is saying alot. That's adorable what he said about Marty. He leaves Marty in the dust but yes Marty is an outstanding guitarist no doubt
Saw them March 1987 in Hamburg, Germany. Will never forget the style of Poland's playing and I thought it was a special technique coming from a classical education or something like that😂
When Cliff Burton tragically died I knew Metallica would never really be the same. I am almost 50 and I still only listen to the first 3 records and would never really be able to tell you names of tunes after those records. When Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson parted from Megadeth, again....Megadeth I knew would never be the same. I gravitate to the first 2 records and yes some tracks from later ones. I as a teenager was so bummed out I heard of Chris's solo album Return to Metalapolis and I listened the hell out of that CD. And the fact it had no lyrics was odd for me cause I never cared for solo records like that ...but Chris if you are reading this, the way you molded prior influences like Jazz and Fusion and Metal - I loved it. Now that I am older I understand how things just happen the way things do... although man, the solos on those records were my favorite as a kid. Memories.
He's obscure but he's one of the best guitarists in the world. Easily the best in Deth. Im just so glad that I saw him live with them in '87.
I saw the very first Megadeth tour in Long Beach at a small punk club..Fenders ballroom...Exciter and Hirax opened.

Never had better player he was and still the man.
you saw the best deth lineup ever? im jealous, i love gar and chris, they are incredible and out of this world
Chris is cherished by the metal community, I wish him the success he deserves!
He is and also he has absolutely zero ego. The man is all about the music. Such a humble and gentle guy.
Return to Metalopolis is astoundingly good. You listen, you put it on again, you listen, you put it on again, over and over.
chasing the sun is excellent too but not as heavy
@@lucb404 Thanks - I'll listen.
@@seethroughhead505 let me know if you liked it

System has failed is an underated classic in my opinion.
One of my favorites.
Yeah, his solos are great on there. I loved his solo on the Lamb Of God, instrumental Ashes Of The Wake too.

Thanks .
Don't know what rock that I've been hiding under but just discovered Ohm while searching for Nick Menza stuff. Wow, great stuff!
Love this guy. Chris Poland 's playing was so insane and unique. Easily best guitarist Megadeth ever had.

Chris IS a true legend he is a real man ,worked his ass off and truly WAS Megadeth in my humble opinion.
Been a Megadeth fan since 85 Chris and Gar will always be my favorites..
Chris Poland, one of the most under rated musicians and people ever, Chasing the sun was a masterclass.
This is an amazing interview
I can watch anything Chris Poland related. There's no one else quite like him.
Love the Tales profile pic.
@@chriswakefield9538 thanks :)
My favorite Megadeth guitar player (and also, Jeff Young is underrated, he's a great guitar player as well).
Wish to see an interview guitar in hand showing some stuff.

I love the way he plays guitar ;-; even copied his left-hand style cus it helps and looks cool and unique.
Return to Metalopolis is a badass record.
Was lucky to see Chris and the original Megadeth
I seen the Original Megadegh in Boston at the Rat on the Killing my biz tour! Dave & chris guitar playing blew me away!my First pit ever!!
I dream all the time about Poland's rejoin 'Deth!
My fav era of Megadeth is Poland
Good to see he straightened himself out after Dave gave him the boot for stealing/selling gear
damn drugs
Great interview
cheers Chris and Neil. two guys i would love to have a band with.

Whatever drugs they were on, Chris and Megadeth blew me away in Miami Beach with Overkill in '87.
Chris was fired before 1987 wasn't he?
@@deletedhero5579mid 87 Chris and gar were fired when the tour ended

Chris , come do a show out in Washington state
He will be close...Lebanon Oregon this month for guitars under the stars festival

Same as me I love Megadeths first 2 albums but those first 2 with Chris and Gar are the real Megadeth to me
the frikin hum is killing me
Just get together with Jeff Young, Chuck Belher, David Ellefson and you two guys . make a new band.
☝️ yes.
Totally agree
So Far, So Good, So What! I've been playing the hell out of lately. To see them together would be cool.
He looks very cool.
All the ex megadeth should build a band together 🤘

Dave Ellefson is playing some shows with Chris Poland and Jeff Young next month
F Mustaine. Chris and Ellefson should jam
😄👍
