Megadeth was one of the first metal bands i ever listened to, and have had a huge influence on me. They are a crazy ass band and have been changing band members consistently (think they've gone through 7 or 8 guitarists lol). You have so much energy and to me, are bascially the Coryxkenshin of music rn. Keep up the good work brother, and hope to see you rise to the skies.
Btw, you should also check out Avenged Sevenfold. They are a super interesting and experimental band that always do whatever they feel like doing. I personally would recommend the album "City of evil", but we can let the other viewers choose that.

  • @noxfinity

Good reaction, Megadeth is awesome! If you're learning metal though you NEED to hear Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, they along with Sabbath are the godfathers of metal and both singers are among the greatest vocalists ever. For Iron Maiden albums I suggest Number of the Beast (1982), & Powerslave (1984) to start. For Judas Priest I suggest Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), Unleashed in the East (1979), & Painkiller (1990).

Marty was already a solo artist before he joined Megadeth. His first solo album (Dragon's Kiss) was released in 1988, the same year as the second Cacophony album dropped; he didn't start playing with Mustaine until 1990. Marty and Jason Becker were amazing together as Cacophony but no one ever brings that up. Becker's Perpetual Burn is still considered one of the best (metal) solo albums of all time.
Marty is also a session musician and appeared on several studio tracks for other bands throughout the mid to late 1980s, including Ken Tamplin's band Shout.

This is my favorite album of all time and for good reason. It's the album that made me wanna play guitar, it's the album that truly got me into metal, it showed me how to song write and the intricacies of songwriting, Rust in Peace is a musical delicacy in comparison to any other album the came before or after it.
    Edit: ALSO MORE INFO
the guitarist you liked is Marty Friedman, he's a blues guitarist whose mostly known for Megadeth and for being a Japanese artist. He still tours but separate from Megadeth, with his blues and sorta jpop based shows.
Dave Mustaine is the singer and main songwriter as well as the owner of Megadeth. He was actually kicked out of Metallica in 1983 (he was the original lead guitarist, hence why the riffs are absolutely insane) and they proceeded to use his music on their first 3 albums.
This album is considered one of the greats in the metal community. It's a great start!
Nick Menza is the drummer, he sadly passed away due to a heart attack in 2016 but he was also considered one of the best drummers in all of metal history
David Ellefson is the bassist, (responsible for all the basslines+ Dawn Patrol) He's an ok bassist, almost completely known for strictly Megadeth, but he isn't super great of a bassist in metal overall

This is Megadeth´s 4th album published in 1990, a thrash metal album considered their masterpiece. For this work the line-up was:
Dave Mustaine - Rhythm guitar & vocals
    Marty Friedman - Lead guitar
    David Ellefson - Bass
    Nick Menza (RIP) - Drums
Some little info about the tracks:
    1. Holy wars... The punishment due: This one is actually 2 songs ("Holy wars" & "The punishment due") the one inspired by an irish conflict at the time where the band got involved during a concert and had to flee in an armored vehicle; the later refers to The punisher comics which made part of Mustaine´s childhood. The weird scratchy sound just before the last solo is a certain type of "Artificial Harmonic", a sound made by pressing lightly with your freet hand and picking over some certain places, not a common technique really. It has to be the band´s most famous song.
    2. Hangar 18: The drummer Nick convinced Dave to write a song about the Area 51. This one has a cool video featuring the supposed aliens at it. The chord progression at the begining is taken from an older Metallica demo "When hell freezes over" which eventually became "The call of ktulu". It happens that Mustaine used to be a former member of Metallica and wrote a bunch of songs for the band, included the forementioned before being kicked out due to his drunk behavior.
    3. Take no prisoners: This has to be one of the hardest songs the band has ever written. The album cover artwork was in charge of Ed Repka which has previously work for the band and many other; it depicts the band´s mascot "Vic Rattlehead" present since the very first album and designed by Mustaine himself, a skeleton that incarnates the phrase "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".
    4. Five magics: Never got to be played live until the 2010 album´s anniversary tour, though it use to be played at sound checks in early 90´s. The song is about a book of Mustaine´s childhood. The title makes sense as the 5th solo section and the "I master five magics" are both in meters of 5 beats instead of the usual 4, again that´s pretty unusual and at the begining might sound awkard, it takes time to get used to and enjoy it.
    5. Poison was the cure: Actually the hardest Megadeth song hands down. This was the first solo Marty recorded and it is splendid. Song´s about Dave´s addiction to heroin; shit was so bad around the band that caused previous members to be unable to play. Mustaine and Ellefson went several times to rehab until eventually getting clean, meanwhile the album was made during the abuse of drugs just as the previous ones.
    6. Lucretia: About a granny ghost living in Dave´s attic. The laught at the begining is Mustaine LOL. Also features some weird measure of 31/16? beats by the verses. I love this one, it is so unique within Megadeth´s cathalogue. It has some of the best both Dave´s and Marty´s solos. To think that Mustaine was about to not give Marty a chance to audition just because of his hairstyle.
    7. Dawn patrol: Mustaine added it just so Ellefson got a song credited to.Tension between the 2 founding members started and will detonate in the next millenia with Ellefson´s departure of the band in 2 distinct instances.
    8. Tornado of souls: People argue this one has one of the best guitar solos in metal. Dave had a girlfriend that he was obsessed with so much that a bunch of classic tracks are dedicated to her including this one. The band plays it almost every time, but recently they got to play it oncemore accompanied by former member Marty Friedman in a couple of shows.
    9. Co-written with Nick, this track is also from the time when Dave was in Metallica, in fact you can hear him singing the main riff in an old demo recording while Lars tells him to shut up. There was an incident when Mustaine was listening to the radio while driving and suddenly he hears 1988´s "Child saint - Child saint" instantly thinking "That´s my song" Child Saint admited to learn the song at a party where Mustaine was playing it.

Man there are so many great megadeth songs, next album you should check is "So Far so good.... so what?", also a reccomendation that's more niche for you to listen to later is "Death" since you seem to be enjoying megadeth so far, you will probably fall in love with Death metal, since its basically trash metal but more agressive, sometimes more melodic, progressive and technical it's incredible, another band you should check out later too is dissection, it's a mix between death, thrash and melodic black metal, you should check the following albums
    Death:
Being completely honest, they are one of the only bands ever that have a perfect discography, although i think spiritual healing (album) should be left for last, since i find it a little bit too niche, although i love the album even for me it was hard to get into that album at first.
    Dissection:
    The somberlain
    Storm of the Light's bane.
Even if you don't make a video about them, please check their albums out, you won't regret it.

I'll tip you off to the meaning of the last song bc you might appreciate it more. It's about launching a nuclear missle and starting a nuclear war.
Dave, the lead singer is singing the song as though he is the nuclear missle (A Polaris Missle ).
His voice changes bc he is a different character...as though he is the Polaris Missle.
    "Spread disease like a dog...."
    "discharge my payload..."
rotten egg smell of death" .
He's basically saying what will happen after the nuclear missle explodes.
    When will it cease?
"The warheads (the missles) will all RUST in peace".
That is a play on the phrase, "rest in peace".
Meaning, if we choose peace instead of war, the missles will sit in their silos and simply "rust in peace", never to be used to kill millions of people!
Thanks for the great reaction video. Looking forward to more in the future.
I'll let someone else tell you the difference between types of metal. Even metal fans disagree about what defines each sub-genre of metal. This here is "thrash metal". We all pretty much agree on that.

Dave Mustaine was Metallica"s first lead guitarist. This is why we were all saying on the Black Album reaction that you should give some earlier Metallica a listen, because they used to be just as hard and aggressive as this.
I know you're checking out different vands, bur you've GOT to check out Metallica's Master of Puppets, man, it's seen by many as one of the absolute GOATs.

hey !! i love your channel and have been watching for a few months now. i like that you've branched off into more rock and metal, even if i loved your lana del rey reactions (which is the main reason i love her sm). i think that you'd might (not 100% sure) like korn. since i wouldnt pick any certain album, i would say listen to their compilation, which is "korn greatest hits vol. 1". i will say, though, that he tends to yell in his music. i know you don't like the screamning type of music, which i understand, but it's not the same as that. i listen to a lot of everything, and i started branching out into metal and numetal this year. i think it may not be your thing at first, but if you give it a chance, you might like it. keep up the amazing work and i look forward to seeing what albums you react to next !! 💓

10:51 Btw if you felt the need to play electric guitar, do it!! I was the same way, this album is what got me into guitar originally and it’s quite literally designed for guitar nerds. Guitar is great for your mental health and super satisfying. Btw lead guitarist in Megadeth is Marty Friedman and he’s a huge legend to most. Inspired many many people to play.

"Heavy Metal" is just what Metal was called in the very beginning, but after the genre split into different sub-genres like thrash metal, power metal ect. the umbrella term of "Metal" came to be. In the scene "Heavy Metal" is used to describe the bands who stick to the old school sound. It's basically a subgenre in metal.

We've got Black Sabbath, Metallica and now Megadeth. It would be criminal not to do Slayer next. I would say probably start with their album Show No Mercy (it's their first album and it's a banger). Reign In Blood is also a really sick one with songs like Angel of Death and Raining Blood. Aside from that, I would also recommend South of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss. I also, personally, like their newer 2015 album Repentless, but I haven't seen that many reactions to that album. Show No Mercy would be a good start though.
My dad literally has/had the whole album memorized and when he was in school he took acid once and someone asked what he was listening to and he gave them the headphones and nothing was playing but he was singing along because he had the whole thing memorized and was hallucinating the music.

a curious fact about the album "rust in peace", is that it is one of the most technical albums in the trash metal genre(more difficult in terms of techniques and theory and practice on musical instruments), making Dave Mustaine(vocalist and rhythm guitar) pass sleepless nights practicing and studying until I reached the point of falling asleep with the guitar in his arms. and the result was one of the greatest pearls in metal

Man, this is so far the best Megadeth react I ever seen haha, I felt the same when I listened Rust In Peace for the first time. I have to recommend the album Youthanasia (my fav by Megadeth), it's not too fast as RIP but for me is deeper and the vocals are better. React please to Angra (first band from Megadeth's ex-guitarist Kiko Loureiro) and Sepultura too that left a big influence to nu metal bands
