I met dave last month during the Destroy All Enemies tour. He was really cool & thanked me for my military service, he signed my Rust in Peace CD & I told him I would get an Epiphone Flying V (mustaine version) and he said he'd sign it next time. Experience I'll never forget. an HONOR to meet my guitar idol
My dad, who is not into metal at all, met Dave back in the early 90's when a friend of his had back stage tickets to a show. He said that the entire band were so incredibly nice and really happy to talk to everyone, "despite playing such insanely loud music" lol. Sounds like he really appreciates his fans.
This is new!? WOW 😮 I'm a HUGE fan of Dave Mustaine and Megadeth. Such an intelligent, talented and awesome guy overall. Definitely looking forward to this one!
Anybody who is a diehard guitarist should love to see bands like avenged and Megadeth together. Picked up my guitar because of Synyster Gates and Dave Mustaine. Megadeth and maiden were my favorites from childhood until avenged sevenfold really took my top spot. So much fantastic music between those bands over the past 40 years
My daughter is a guitarist and getting better every day. She was drawn to my musical taste and for her too. Maiden and Megadeth are her favorite. Just like me.
The wisdom you can glean if you just listen to men like Dave. Many problems are from a lack of communication which usually stems from the fear of loss or fear of gain. Pure gold.
Dave! Saw Megadeth in Reading PA, best concert we've seen, hands down, you guys are killing it! We met briefly at the hotel pool, thank you for your kindness and big heart not only with the fans but also the giving to those less fortunate in the world, wish more people who have had success would follow your lead!
Johnny, I was at the A7X concert in Ottawa last year and this was the best night of my life. I couldn’t be more excited to hear about your upcoming tour to India. While you are there, you should definitely visit north east India, especially when Dave has performed at the weekender festival in Shillong, that’s where he is referring to as being amidst the mountains. There is a massive A7X fanbase around that region.
I introduced my daughter to Megadeth Music in 1997. 14 years later she introduced me to Avenged Sevenfold Music. Thank you both for the great music! 🤘😎🤘
As far as talent AND songwriting combined yes. Some guitar players are either crazy talented at shredding (Steve Vai and the likes) or you have Kurt Cobain and the types that while no guitar shredders can come up with catchy tunes and melodies. Dave Mustaine is one of the few that can do both! So rare and special.
@@jameshager9073 It's too bad Kurt Cobain was murdered. I really think him and Dave Mustaine would've made awesome music together had he lived long enough for it to be a possibility. Not sure if that would've ever happened but I think it's possible. Kurt Cobain loved Metallica growing up and even was at one of their concerts in Seattle when he was super famous and was in the crowd yelling at Kirk Hammett to play "Whiplash", his favorite Metallica song! If he liked Metallica that much just imagine how much he liked the more Punky based Megadeth!? Both were heroin addicts in the early 90's, but Kurt was cleaning up his act shortly before he was killed (a new witness is publicly claiming he was there the night Kurt was killed. His name is Joe Burns and he was the drummer of Dylan Carlson's band Earth back in 91'... There's clips of it online now and it's been said the entire interview will be up tomorrow or soon!). Whether one is a fan of Kurt's music or not you can't deny his awesome influence on mainstream music. He helped kill off the "Hair Metal" scene and brought more melodic and punk into the mainstream which is always a good thing. I love Pantera and all the super heavy music too but Nirvana is on my top 3 favorite bands list. I'm a sucker for catchy melodic songs and Kurt had that in spades!
I am Gen X and I watched Megadeth in concert for my first time on my birthday in August this year. It was the best ever. Now I wish I would've been more of a Megadeth fan and a little less of a Metallica fan. I liked Megadeth from the 90s after they released Countdown to Extinction but I should've gotten into more Megadeth music as to me Megadeth is the clearly better band. That's to say I still like Metallica, it's just that Megadeth is more thrash (despite also having some commercialized music). It's cool. I know that Metallica prefers to be the gateway to harder metal band and there's nothing wrong with that because someone has to do the job so why not Metallica?
Both Dave and Johnny are good guys. I’ve never followed Avenged but I think I might check them out after watching this interview. Dave has always amazed me with not only his guitar skills but also as a honest and really down to earth guy. He really cares about others and has been grateful for his fans and to top it all off when I found out he found Christ and converted to Christianity I felt so blessed that he is brother in Christ. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Do I call you Johnny or Mr. Christ? I loved this one. We never get to see this side of most of our heroes. Been loving Megadeth since the beginning. I only discovered A7x last year. Since then I've become a huge fan. Got most of your albums on vinyl or CD. Just need to say, The Rev was amazing. I bet he was a great friend. I am sorry for your loss. Dave, I got to see you with Marty and Nick and David twice in a club in Boston and the 3rd time It was when you toured with Heaven and Hell in Lowell, MA. I'm so glad that you have pulled through everything life throws at you. Peace to both of you guys. and thanks for all you do. ✌🤟
He said in an interview he could do 2 or 3 more... he really will try to do it until he cannot anymore... and that is great dedication and shows why he is where he is...
We should be gratefull. If you think about it, lots of legendary musicians died before they even reach their 30s or 40s.Dave is still alive and kicking at 60+ despite countless health scare.
Right on lol , he's my uncle and Steve Harris my pop and which makes steve your uncle and were goddamn cousins ! Ain't nothing like family, see ya at thanksgiving
Crazy. I lived in HB for ten years. Off of Newland, between Atlanta and Hamilton. This brought back memories. I miss Huntington Beach. Yup, Crystal Cathedral I've been there.
I only lived in Fountain Valley (near HB) for 5 months, but HB I lived for only a month if that. Still I know the area well since I had friends in the area. I did also did ROP at Goldenwest College for A+ Certification. Great times!
I was stationed in the Philippines in the military and have seen the poor like Dave mentioned. Traces of Death was even worse. New band name🤘 Urchin Death🤘 Great interview 👍
Dave often gives great interviews when the guy who's interviewing him isnt baiting him into saying something negative. You could tell Johnny was very respecful and talked to him like true brother.
This is awesome. Thank you, Johnny. I have not listened to Avenged much at all, i can't say i know any songs, really. I should check it out again and see what i think. I am a HUGE fan of early Megadeth, though and Dave is very interesting and intelligent, in my opinion. I also agree with his conservative perspective, although i believe everyone has to be conservative and liberal to some degree (we all are in actual fact). God bless you guys.
I'm a gen xer who grew up on the big four along with overkill, Testament, and of course Iron Maiden, I was told so much crap about A7X like they were posers, bad songs ,just negative after negative things until around 2007 I was given a cd of city of evil and all that shit I heard was exactly that , shit! That cd introduces me to a band who loved all the bands I grew up with, big influences of iron maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica just pouring through, this band was old school metal with a 21st century flair ,if you love those bands I highly recommend A7X start with city of evil , and .Nightmare with Mike Portnoy taking drum duties (due to the passing of the Rev) their first album is kind of a tough listen but everything that follows is good shit, enjoy , I think you'll be pleasantly surprised . They are right there part of that metal revival with Mastadon, Lamb of God, Trivium, Shadows Fall etc
@@danzemacabre8899 Cool. Thank you. I got heavy into Iron Maiden this year, mostly because of the first two albums (original mix too). I also enjoy Dickenson with them early on, great stuff. I will check out Avenged sometime for sure.
You should come to Mizoram, it's the most peaceful place in India. Located in the North East part of India and is a totally different place from the rest of India with a huge musical influence.
I saw a pic on Gary Holt’s Instagram of him and Dave Mustaine with glasses together, and below it was a picture of the Wayne’s World guys, and it looked so similar lmao every time i see Dave now I think of the guy from that movie.
Megadeth have been one of my most favourite bands for over 30 years now (Countdown to Extinction). Dave is The Man 🤘 And I really loved Aveneged from ‘City Of Evil’. Fell in love with the band. The songs, the energy, everything. Just awesome. Unfortunately I’ve gone off A7X recently. Not a fan of their last couple of albums and they’ve gone very static and boring live

MANY THINGS YES!
Dave Mustaine aka The Godfather of Thrash Metal!!
Actually more like the actual father of Thrash Metal
I'm glad you got to meet the leader of Avenged Sevenfold, Dave!

Easily 2 pillars “of many” that made kids go out and buy a guitar.

Dave seems like a cool guy when he's in the right element. Great conversation. Thanks for posting!
Love Mustaine - he is all about perseverance.😎
My tongue would get tied up too if I'm talking to Dave fucking Mustaine lol
So true
Happened to me last year, actually. All I could muster was, “Hey Dave, how are you!?” And he said, “Great, how are you?” He was very gracious
Hopefully Dave will give us one last great album before retiring
The last two were definitely great. I don't know why on Earth they couldn't have one more at least in the tank.
He said in an interview he could do 2 or 3 more... he really will try to do it until he cannot anymore... and that is great dedication and shows why he is where he is...
There were some rumors that in 2025 they’ll drop another banger album
Dave will never stop writing music until he draws his last breath.
