- this is a how-to on adding a remote start on 2012 & 2013 sierra or silverado pickup truck, May work on other vehicles, not sure... Must have AP8 code on vehicle options tag (Mine was in glove box) you can check on your VIN #.
GM 22970855 (for 2012 + 2013 & maybe 2014 Sierra & Silverado) Хобби
Very informational. Just took mine today to be programmed. Thanks man
I appreciate the feedback! thanks for watching!
I just got a 2011 Chevy Silverado have 2 remotes watched this video and it works thank you
george lehman awesome, thanks for watching!!!
Is this the same for the 2012 GMC siera what u think
Nancy Longoria did you get the answer ? I have same 2011 Z71 too. Did you order remotes and if so from where .thx
I have a 2011 LT where did you get your remotes
Damn man! Jammin’ to some Thunderkiss’65! Good old White Zombie!
I have a 2007.5 NBS 2500HD... AP8 code and took remote apart and it is the same board as the “accessory” remotes. I ordered a $15 Amazon unprogrammed key fob, swapped my internals and auto start works. You can test it without buying anything. Take remote apart lock truck/car, use the rubber buttons to now press and hold the top “pad” on the circuit board (while holding battery against contacts on same board) and the car/truck should start. Press the top pad again to turn off... don’t spend a ton of money and DONT have to go to dealership.
man if you can do a video about what you just said, you'll end world hunger
Can you reiterate the procedure as I was close to understanding but can’t figure how how to replicate what seems like a hack to get remote start when one has AP8. Current fobs I have don’t have the remote start option. I have 2007.5 NBS 1500. It’s sounds for those who have AP8 that getting key fobs that have the extra button to remote start and use the relearn option won’t actually work to get the feature but what you are explaining is swapping out the internals somehow and it works? Can you elaborate please.
Wow lol it sits so nice and flush looks custom! Nice! Well thank you
Thanks for your help.
I have 2013 silverado and I check on the glove box and I have the same code AP8 so I think this can work on my truck.
Thank you.
I have a Silverado too, Is it in the fifth column instead tho? Cause in the column his is in mine says AT8.
Wow! Just came across this thread. I never knew you could do this, never heard of it. I'm buying a new 2021 Sierra this week and it doesn't have remote start. I will have to see if I can find the code and order new key fobs. Thanks for the info.
Hey I was wondering if you looked into that yet? I'm going through the same situation
By chance on your clip of info on that paper did you block out the code you needed for it to work, or did you just purchase the 2 remotes head to dealer to program them(they have the code) and also reflash your BCM to get your remote start enabled?
SMS373 - If you already have a remote with remote start, than yes you can do it yourself. If you have the regular transponders, and the "remote start" feature is not "activated" then you need to bring it in to dealership (as i had too)
Thanks for watching
matt dobson what do I ask for when I go to the dealer ?
Did you have to buy OEM transponders or were they aftermarket?
I have a 2007 Silverado and I didn't see the code Ap8 but did see At8 so what would I need to add the remote start to my truck
When you now use the remote start do your parking lights come on and/or headlights depending if it is dark outside? I want to have that installed on my truck but do not want any headlights or parking lights to come on. Do you or anyone else know if that is possible? Also were those Fobs $120 each or for both? Thanks
I don't see how you programming it, or did you already have dealer done for you?
I already have a working remote start on hand but I just need extra remote in case lost the other one
My 08 silverado doesnt have AP8 it has AT8. My question is does it change letter from years? Since my truck is and 08 and your is a 2013? How do I find out if AT8 means
I have a Chevy Silverado 2007 and in the glove box it has the AP8, does it mean it has the remote start?
I have 2013 with a working remote start came with the truck and purchase additional exact same remote from ebay but can't get it to work, after watch your video still confuse about the info you saying here.
AP3 is factory INSTALLED remote start
AP8 is Remote Start PREP package (Can be added later).
+raul marichalar - Thanks for the clarification!
I went to dealership trying to get it.. I have AP8.. what is it that I have to ask them.. they basically told me they didn’t do it..
check with another dealer I had the same problem don't let them off the hook keep it up check out my comment above
So how can i order the GM code and instruction to program my 2008 silverado 1500?
Hey Matt, thanks for posting the video on the information about the remote start. will be definitely looking into this for myself. one thing I noticed that I was really curious about is the device you have plugged in on the USB port of your truck. mind sharing with me what that is? Bluetooth audio Maybe?
Steven Garcia the single USB is factory and connected to radio and plays of thumb drive. The dual USB is just a dual port charging station for phone and GPS - thanks for watching!!
Hey so my 2012 has a standard remote so does that mean my truck don’t even have a remote starter to connect the remotes to
Jose - If you already have a remote, and the 2nd is identical than I believe you can do it yourself
Do you have a RPO code in your glove box?
just did this to my 2011 3500 duramax dually after arguing with the service department for almost a month they kept telling me it couldn't be done on a dually I finally talked to one of the mechanics and he said yep I can do it took it in and he had it up and going in about an hour
TIM Thornburg awesome! Glad you found someone who knew what they were doing
Remote start is not good for diesel bud trust me
Purchased remote start kit at dealer who said “ ok done but tire sensors are bad and xx dollars to replace so remote start won’t work til they’re fixed”. Told them I’m getting tires next week so thanks but no thanks. Guess what.. they didn’t program my remote start and lost my program code. Can you say PISSED?? Can’t just call gm for a new code either. Anyone? Any thoughts besides chew manager and getting nowhere? Tried that
Do you have a kit for s 2008 wrangler?
Does it have to be in that spot. I have ap8 but it’s the 3rd spot.
Anyone that currently looking for this without going to the dealer. Dorman programmer does it for you. I have ap8 but not start fob. Went to amazon got the fob and the Dorman programmer ubd and it worked. 2012 GMC Sierra
Got a link?
I have ap8, unless I got a different dorman programmer it isn't working for me
Same I programmed my 2012 GMC Sierra with ap8 and the remote start is not working
@@Mel54308 mine is a 2012 silverado 1500
@@Mel54308 did you ever get this resolved?
So I have 2015 2500hd what code do I need to see if I can have the remote start
Where exactly did you get these because the part number is popping up for different prices and want to make sure I get the right kit
اللهم صل وسلم وبارك على عبدك ورسولك محمدﷺ
Apparently this particular GM remote start part number is NOT compatible with a 2008 Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 FLEX Fuel model. ???Am I wrong?
$65 was a fair price.
I need to get this for my 2013 PPV.
Did you find the link to where to purchase ?
What if there's no AP8 code in glove box?
I ordered the key fobs with the start buttons and have the AP8 code but where do you get the code because I went to the dealership and they didn't know. 1 guy said ya they activate remote starts all the time but if they flashed the bcm and it didn't work then it would still cost $150. But he didn't really know anything about the code or where to get it from,so i don't really know what to do. Im not trying to waste $150 more than the fobs already cost if it won't work......
Hahahah thunder kiss 65 I listen to that all the time in my sierra
Did your kit only come with the 2 keychain FOBs? I'm looking at the GM kit number 22970855 and it is about $260 on Amazon. Has it doubled in price since you got it, or am I missing something??
DownAndUnderKy looks like that’s the going price
Perhaps you can help me. I just got an '09 Silverado. I have the AP8 code. I have 2 standard remotes (without the start button). I went to the dealer today and asked the parts guy about getting a remote. He told me I needed the "Accessory" remote which cost $275, P/N 17801236. It looks the same as all the others. So what do I need? Do I need just a 22970855 or something similar? I found several different factory remote part numbers. Hopefully you or someone can help.
Did you ever get your remote start working? if yes what did you do?
Do you have ap3?
i had a 2007 with a Ap3 code and would remote start, now i have a 2009 with a AP8 code and the parking lights flash when i press the remote start button but it dont start... am i doing something wrong? is AP3 different or the same as AP8?
my understanding is that AP3 code is only for keyless entry.. If you do a search for GMC AP3 code it shows "keyless entry" . Thanks for watching!
I have 2011 Chevy 2500 and it does not have the entry key program on my odometer? What now?
Mine says Ap8 but where do I buy the keys without hassle from dealer ship
I wonder once the BCM is enabled for remote start by the dealer can additional remotes be programmed the normal way at a later time and still have this feature without going to the dealer in the event a remote lost or damaged....
318BENZO I’m pretty sure you would be able to.. but it’s a good point! Thanks for watching
Hey my remote just broke I bought the truck used it was the new one that remote started my truck . Is this true ?
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado with a remote start and it works , tho I only have one remote can I just buy another or two remotes and do it myself?
On your dash does it say
Remote start :
" press ✅ to change "
I'm confused, so the truck is all ready to go you just need the new key fobs? The dealer needs a code and that's it? Where do you get the code for them to do it?
A lot of these trucks are already hard wired for the higher packages. I called my dealer and they said the the strain the code from manufacture and the customer has to pay I think around $350 to get it done
So the activation code from the dealer was used when/how?
Louis DeVito the dealer gets it and uses it to activate.. I’ve been told the customer can’t get the activation code
I purchased the remotes and it didn't come with the "code" it was suppose to come with to program my truck. Does anyone have that code I could use? I really don't want to pay $250 for just that code
I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado that does have AP8 shown in the glove box. Are you telling me all that I need to do to have remote start in my vehicle is to order the GM 22970855 key fobs and having those fobs programmed? I hope so! Thank you!!!
Randy Huckfelt yup! If you order the key fobs online you might save a little, but you will still need to go to dealership to program.. you can also just go straight to dealership and they will do it all!
@@mattdobson123 Awesome Matt! Thanks for your reply!
hi, how do i change the run time on a 2015 GMC factory remote start so it runs longer than 10 minutes?
What website you ordered the remotes?.
I bought mine off ebay, but do a search for "GM 22970855" this covers 2012 + 2013 & maybe 2014 Sierra & Silverado's. If you have another year you will need to find the proper product number. autoplicity.com had them for $185.. 6 months ago i got my set for roughly $150..
Hey I got a 2010 Chevy Tahoe LS with the AP8 in the glove box would this work for it please help me out and let me know ASAP so I can order key fobs and go to the dealer and get it done
Smail Cekro I’m pretty sure it will! I would confirm with service department at dealership, but almost positive!
What about and 09 Silverado do they have the ap8 or is it different for the 09s I can't find it on my 09
I had the AP8 on mine did this and remote start doesnt work..it send signal and truck lights go on and off but doesnt start
Roger Desrosiers same here
Will this work by using the relearn remote ✅ on the display??
I don't think so, but maybe worth a shot.. All the research I did back in 2011 stated the only way was with the dealership codes.
I have the code but I just would like to know if remote start displays on your dash when you cycle through the settings.
I ORDERED AN EXTRA REMOTE, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO ACTIVATE WITHOUT THE DEALER?
Jose I Lizarraga Jr my romote was acting up looked up the reprogramming fobs video I have a Chevy but I put finger on unlock turn the key twice on an off then hold down the lock an unlock buttons till beeps or in my case didn't make a noise turned key to on an then held them.again an my old fob works again
I have 2017 chevy silverado and it has AQQ rpo code, is it means that i have a pre wire remote start?
i looked it up and it says the rpo code of AQQ is "LOCK CONTROL, ENTRY REMOTE ENTRY, EXTENDED RANGE" so it def. has door locks, but not positive on remote start.. I think it still needs the AP7 or AP8 code?
\
friend of mine has an 08 silverdao, and he just has to hit the lock button 3 times and then hold the alarm button. has the regular key fob. no remote start button
Anyone ever try this? Does it work ?
Question I have 07 Silverado and my key fob has the remote start button and when I press it it just flashes one time n doesn’t turn on I also have the ap8 in the glove box what can I do ?
hmm.. that seems odd.. it should be working.. I remember you had to have the doors locked and press the button twice? Otherwise you may need to work with the dealer
Do base 2014 work trucks come prewired??
Yes, but only if you have AP8 code on vehicle options tag (Mine options tag was located in glove box)
code on 2014 Chevy Silverado is AQQ
What is it for 2011Chevy Silverado LT
How about 2017 Chevy Silverado LT? Anyone 😁
How do I get the authorization code? Do I have to visit the dealer? I’m trying to get it done myself
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to get the codes without paying the dealer
I have a 2012 sierra it does not have ap8 is there a different an other letter combo for 2012s
Dan - i believe the code was the same for 2012, so if you don't have the AP8 code -you may be out of luck. Try a search for VIN code for remote start , but I'm afraid you won't find much.
Can you order the kit and simply do the self-programming procedure on the remotes?
contraption22 you were not able to when I did this install. Things may have changed since then, but I doubt it.. my understanding was that a dealership needs to call GM to activate
Dan muchos kit para programar los controles no puedo programar un control para un Chevy hhr 2006 gracias
Any idea why doors lock and unlock but just makes a click sound when hit the remote start???
Matt Christie my guess is that the relay is not closing the circuit?? I guess I would double check fuses and then start to test the circuit with voltage tester
Gm charges $65 to unlock it after supplying the fobs?
Probably charged him a half hour labor
Please do not base your decision off this video. my truck has the code AP8 however i bought the remote start remote and it will send a signal to the vehicle however the vehicle will not start. I even to my 2011 Silverado to the dealer and they said i do not have the remote start feature.
Needs to be coded.
You can’t just program remote like a replacement using dash options?
I’m wondering this too
For everyone trying to do this it cost the same price if not cheaper to just put on an aftermarket automatic start
you're probably right on that.. I just preferred to carry one keyfob instead of 2
Can you comment on requirements to have a hood latch switch installed with this kit? My dealer said it would be required as a security feature to prevent the engine from starting while the hood is open? I purchased a kit, for my 2011 Silverado with the AP8 code but dealer wouldn't install without buying the latch which wasn't in my kit.
Were you able to have it installed
Go to a different dealer he's just trying to get money out of you
In my experience not every truck is wired. If its an LS its definitely not wired. Mine is a LT and comes pre wired for everything.
Is that a center console in the center floor? Diy? I been thinking about making a custom one but not sure
Mario Chingon yeah, I made that center console to hold random items (also holds an amplifier for a small subwoofer)
I’ve got an LS and have the AP8 code, going to get this done asap.
so you are saying that total you spent like $180 ??? :o
i asked a shop in my town nd they said that it would be like $300.
mine is a 09 sle z71 , i checked the glove box and it has ap8 so that means that its not too hard to install it ???
Yeah I bought the remotes separate, and the dealer only charged me for labor (you can't do it yourself) they charged me 1 hour or roughly $70 to install.. Good luck!
So the price has definitely gone up for the fobs. I've just purchased a 2010 Chevy 1500 LT and the cheapest set I can find is $150 on ebay. Do you know of any place that has them cheaper?
No, sorry I do not know of a cheaper place.. Good luck, thanks for watching
I got 2 for under $15 together..
Hey man i have a 2010 GMC sierra with ap8 code and i was given the fob for remote start but it has never been activated, do i need to purchase a code or can the dealership just charge me the 100 bucks and it should work?
Carl Fuchs - thats a tough one.. I would take to the dealership and let them figure it out.. Or start with a phone call, but that only goes so far)
I have the same 2010 Sierra Denali you can do it yourself, I ordered my fob remote for 20$ eBay and reprogram it myself
+Sivilay stroke do you mind explaining to me how you did it? I'm still interested in doing this to my gmc
I have a 2012 Silverado z71 LT do you think this system could work on my truck? If so where do I go online to order this?
Texastrucker85 - I think it should work, but i'm no expert! Check this site here: @22970855
sxecrew - wont let me post site, but this site here: gmpartsoverstock.com and search for part #22970855
This has since gone up $100 for the transponders. Still a reasonable deal considering its factory fit.
My dealer is asking 200 bucks just for the code from GM plus remote activation fee! I'm not too happy about that.
Omg I’m gna try it.. I have the Ap8 code and I found 2 remotes on eBay for like 15$ idk why yours where over 100$ , I’ll see what happens
Did this work?
Did the Ebay remote work?
i just ordered the remotes to see if they worked ill let yall know
I ordered the remote online like u did, and I checked the ap8, and I goes to the dealer, but they told me my vehicle is not wired and I have to pay $345 for new instalation. is that possible? I have a diesel, do you think it make a difference?
+M K - everywhere i read stated that the ap8 code meant the vehicle was prewired for auto-start.. sorry to hear that it might be that much money! I would call another dealer or two, and see what they give for a price.
Yes, that's what I think. I will go to another dealer.
Thank you
@@FORFITERCLUB so what ever happen did you get it to start
Any help on the 2012 gmc I took it in to the shop and now it just aint workn. I replaced the battery and still no response. Anyone with some assistance would be greatly appreciated
Nancy Longoria sorry, not sure what the problem is.. they locked the typical user out of the system so we can do much on the programming side of things

that was happening to me because the check engine light on but when it went away it started working again

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra it has the ap8
Hey man how did u install dual USB inputs in your cigarette lighter?
No, that is a charger.. Thing works great.. Griffin dual usb car charger
I don't understand why GM wouldn't put remote start on all its vehicles with code ap8. Seems like a huge waste to have remote start pre installed and then not give it to you from the factory, especially when your spending 35 k on one of their trucks
Because they can charge you for an extra option that way.
35k? For a new diesel? LOL good luck with that
@@Fdeubcfhbbjhfd they like 80k now 🤣
I dont have the sticker in the glove box… but how in the world do you know if yours has remote start? I programmed some remote start remotes and all it does when i hold remote start button is flash blinkers once..
@@Allmotorzl1 that's what mine does and I do have the AP8 code on my sticker. I don't want to get charged for something that I already have. If one of us finds out before the other please come back and comment. Thanks!
I believe there is a hood latch swap that must be completed on some vehicles. This latch is wired into the system in order to prevent remote starting when the engine compartment hood is open. Make sense right? You're out working on the car and someone gets your remote and starts it!! Not good!!
JohnBon Ham absolutely right! This is factory wired and that is already pre wired in!
what about on a 2011 tahoe
You'll need part 22970856, but good luck finding it, as it's discontinued
What is a trans plotter? 😂
Hello.
I have a Chevy Silverado 2012 LT

What am I supposed to do to remote start ??
buy the key fobs from dealership or online. Then you will need to have dealership program them. (you can't do yourself)
Go to automatic Caden
Did you call GM for the authorization number
Eric Ortiz no GM had to do it unfortunately
Dealer .. said its discontinued O well they don't sell that package but its on Amazon and ebay for a lot more
Chevy
Why in the world would it already be installed, but they don't give you Key fobs with an extra button? WTH
Frustrating isn't it!! I was upset when I found out, but somewhat relieved that it was easy to add
Is this only for trucks in those years or what years and GM vehicles.
The dealerships have discontinued selling the remote with remote starts so they don’t do this no more
dang.. that sucks...
I'm stuck now too because I can't get the remote start kit for a 2007-2014 tahoe. Every online gm webstore, says they have 22970856, but a day after placing the order, they cancel the order because it's discontinued. You'd think there would be a way to buy the code from GM, and no keys.... ARRRRRGG
@@nigelsteffen340 yeah I know it sucks because i have the Ap8 code on my truck which means remote start prep package and the dealer is supposed to activate it but they don’t do it no more
Great video, but you absolutely didn’t need to spend $65 on those from a dealer. You can do this yourself with $10 set of fobs from eBay, even without having a remote start fob to begin with.
How? i have a 2011 sierra with AP8 and want a remote start. Any advice is appreciated!
Please explain or what key fobs
I bought them from somewhere??????????????? Really!
gm direct prob the best place
i asked my dealership to have my truck programmed for remote start and i was gonna get the fob myself to avoid their fees. they told me "your truck does not have this feature, it will be $450 to add this feature" fuuuuuuk that
My local Corpus Christi dealers want well over $300 just to program it. Disgusting.
So why don't the cheap bastards do this from the get go? GM is a big disappointment from 2004 and up. I doubt I will ever buy a new GM again and that was all I've ever bought. They don't own up to shit. Non stop issues with their vehicles and no recalls for common problems... They wait till a class action lawsuit is against them.
+lmadden6236 I hear ya.. It's frustrating buying a new car these days..
all manufacturers are pulling this kind of crap
