Its frustrating that the police have a complete lack of sel awareness into recent misconduct of fellow forces or officers, even high profile cases of national attention. Most professions these days require registrants to keep abreast of misconduct as "never again" or learning incidents for professional development and training. Imagine a GP not keeping up to date with safeguarding or medication prescription guidelines...

So that's a £49 profit to the mint. Nice.
So someone uses the coin, the bank returns it to the mint. The mint now pays out £100 to the bank. Electronic transfer.
Ah, now it costs £1 to scrap the coin. Now the mint has lost money, not made a profit.

If bought as silver on let's say ebay it may have cost you scrap value + premium in auction so maybe £10-£15 . And it's face value is £50 ? This is what's confusing us lol . Great videos keep UK currency alive

    • @RonSeymour1

When bought from the Royal Mint they cost £50 but because the Royal Mint advises banks to not accept them they are difficult to spend. You need nerves of steel like Brett to use them. However, they are legal tender. Because they are difficult to spend they are sold on eBay for less than £50 but not as low as the £15 you state because they are worth £50. I believe that Brett buys them on eBay for perhaps £40 and makes £10 when he uses them for diesel.

this seems to be the bank of englands fault they issued the coins advertising them as legal tender then later have told banks the were issued as commerative coins and not intended to be in used in circulation and not to accept them this is wierd !
For example my grandfather had a sweet//newspapershop he over the years accumulated some Maundy Money coins which he decided to keep these are also legal tender and also issued as commerative coins
but as they were legal tender he was legaly not allowed to refuse payment in them unless they were offered in amounts over those listed below
    1 pence coins > upto 20 pence
    2 pence coins > upto 20 pence
    5 pence coins - upto £5
    10 pence coins > upto £5
    20 pence coins > upto £10
    50 pence coins > upto £10
£1 pound coins > any amount
£2 pound coins > any amount
so why the difference now is the bank of england actualy issueing fake money legaly ?
I would also think that the Govenor of the bank of England could be liable for prosecution for this if you realy want to make a case
a coin is either legal tender in British law or it isnt so to tell banks not to accept it is illegal

Although it is legal tender, shops have the discretion to accept or refuse what they like. Where are you getting your legal advice from? Just Google can shops refuse legal tender. Those coins can be handed into a post office, but not all banks will accept them so you may be causing an inconvenience for the business by trying to force this on them. They have a right to refuse your method of payment, the same way they can refuse cards if they like. If they did not accept your payment method and you drove off, then yes you didn’t pay as the transaction was not completed. Both sides must agree. You can claim all you like they need to put signs up on what they accept and don’t accept, but you could also have just asked before filling up if that was your only way of paying. The only way you can force legal tender on someone is when squaring a debt. You are just playing silly monkeys and you are not even legally correct.

    • @contactjd

This is a debt unless they can somehow take their fuel back. Same as if you ate a meal and left these coins as the payment.

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket Год назад +1

@@contactjd Nope, it's only a debt if you leave without paying although that also makes it a crime. Have a look at the formal definition: 'Debt is a deferred payment, or series of payments, which differentiates it from an immediate purchase'.
You could fill up and leave them chickens worth the equivalent value of the fuel and that wouldn’t be paying for it either. Some places may accept chickens as payment and some may not. It is up to the shop what payment methods it accepts. The legal tender angle is a red herring. Shops don’t have to accept all forms of legal tender - except when squaring a debt.

@@Ironbuket filing up before paying = deferred. If you had to pay up front that would = immediate, which is where they can of course refuse

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket Год назад

@@contactjd What you are suggesting is absurd. Find me one source that refers to payment for petrol as a deferred payment? The ‘pay for it later’ part of the definition under the law, means at a later date under an agreement which may incur interest. If buying petrol was a true debt transaction you would have to sign a contract beforehand else it wouldn’t be binding and you could just go off without paying every single time. Obviously, when you eat at a restaurant you are meant to pay for your meal before you leave not a few days later. You can’t easily return it, just like the fuel, but that doesn’t mean they have to accept any payment you choose either.

    • @contactjd

@@Ironbuket the price displayed, you pulling the nozzle trigger, and cashier pressing button allowing you to proceed effectively forms the contract by both parties at the displayed terms.
Otherwise what is to stop them doubling their price per litre after you've filled up?
This is why these videos always mention lack of signs on the pumps , which some places are now starting to do ⛽
Using these coins is not really any different to handing over a £50 note which some cashiers don't recognise either, but let's not delve into 'promissory' notes... 💷
Do you ask for a signed contract before you get your hair cut by the way? 💇

How can I dispose of commemorative crowns? And why do some have a higher face value than others?
At the time of decimalisation the United Kingdom five-shilling crown was redenominated as a 25p coin and pieces struck prior to 1990 - all the way back to 1818 - continue to be legal tender for that amount. The face value of new issues of the coin from 1990 was increased to £5 because this was considered to be more consistent with the weight and size of the coin.
Crowns are issued to mark special occasions rather than for use in general circulation. They are legal tender - for £5 or 25p as described above - but contrary to popular belief this does not mean that banks and retailers automatically have to accept them. Indeed you will probably find that most banks and retailers refuse. Please be aware, however, that the Post Office has agreed to exchange them for goods and services.

Brett, you keep talking about signs on the pumps, however I'm not convinced that is a good argument. Petrol stations can't change whether they do or don't accept legal tender via a sign surely. A debt is a debt and CAN be settled via legal tender. I feel you may be undermining your own point by implying that a private business can choose.
