In fairness I can understand why the shop keeper doesn't want to have to go out of his way and spend his time having it out with the bank just because someone wants to get views on a you tube channel. My parents were not cousins but I wouldn't want the hassle plus the risk of it not being legal tender as me personally and I'm sure alot of other people would not know of a £100 coin. I know he's a shop keeper but he can't be aware of everything,he's only human and we all learn new things in our day to day jobs.I know many shops around where I live in Yorkshire that refuse to take £50 pound notes so unless I was trying to be a fool I wouldn't go arguing trying to pay with a £100 pound coin. I am not trying to argue with all you that agree with him I am just sharing my personal opinion.

Fair enough comment, thankyou, but it shows how far the pendulum of our rights has swung the wrong way. Coins made by the Royal Mint and proclaimed as "legal tender for payment throughout our United Kingdom" should be just that. Our society has allowed shops to refuse £50 notes, which is their right, and recently card only, no cash, which is also their right. What is our right, the peoples right, is to use any form of current legal tender for payment of a debt or financial obligation. It might seem pedantic to some, but we should not let our rights be eroded away. Our great grandparents witnessed the end of the use of gold coins as an emergency measure to fight ww1 and the state stole all the gold in exchange for paper notes. Our Grandparents witnessed the end of silver coins where the state stole all the peoples silver and swapped it for copper nickel coins. We are witnessing the theft of all the copper and nickel coins seeing them swapped for steel coins and it won't be long before its all cashless. Let's not forget that its the monetary system that enslaves the human race to our mortgages and taxes causing huge environmental harm, whilst the state acts like tyrants invading and bombing other peoples lands behind the threat of nuclear weapons all backed by their power of infinite money creation rather than the "live within your means" restraint of finite metals. Dont forget, the reason why the UK came off the gold standard was to fight the First World War.

@@julianchamberlain5399 Hi Julian, thank you for your polite and dignified response. I agree we shouldn't allow our rights be eroded away and I agree with all you said in you reply. Sorry I haven't read all the comments but the comments I did read I felt people were just targeting that particular shop or even their culture for refusing the £100 coin where in fact it is far more common than just them refusing legal tender and many white british shop owners behave the same way. But I understand to make a stand you have to start somewhere and that petrol station was a place to start and make people aware. I enjoy watching these kind of uploads and I'm sure the hard work you put in is appreciated. If it wasn't for you and others we would be walked over.I will watch more of your videos. I am still conflicted by these coins but no need to insult garage owners as they have a loss of over 240 pounds and are caught with coins they can't bank and apart from Julian have not seen this anywhere else. To go back to same garage was always going to raise issues and they handled it badly but emotions can run high when they are being put on social media and lost money twice. I hope Julian stops the coin videos as entertsining that they are it should end with him paying garages by their accepted payment if he wants to make a video and his point. Yes the banks should accept any sterling tender and yes the bank of england should underwrite any coin the royal mint produce as legal tender. We all know the retailers are caught in the middle and unless they sell them on ebay below face value it is a loss and painful. If Julian wants to fight the coin battle stop buying fuel because it is a debt and promise to pay and try paying car tax and council tax and hmrc with this so Goverment loses not small business owners. Even his own bank tried to sell him coins back at face value as they were stuck with them. Julian if you read this I hope you see the emotions you felt from garage sraff were because they lost out twice and your crusade is costing people money...no need for reply as I like you and someone could of got hurt and unless you try the government angle it is just for content and people are caught in the middle.

@@endeavourone882 Hi Eric, that is the point ...they are silver coins which if mass produced tender in general circulatiom would be made of less expensive metal. The business owners can't bank them as general circulating coins hence the problem. Julian buys a 100 coin for about 80 pounds on ebay as if they were easy to bank why would anyone sell below face value. I was with Julian on legal tender argument and feel the royal mint is just causing a problem calling them legal tender as no bank has to accept them so in the end becomes just a collector coin where value demtermined by demand or scrap value. It iis not a high street bank issue and just a scam by royal mint calling them legal tender which bank of england won't take from high street banks. It is not a coin deemed to be in wide general circulaion and designed as a collector coin hence made of silver.these coins if not underwritten by bank of england and in general circulation for banks should be treate no differently to coins by london mint or frankllin mint. I hate people beinG caught in the middle and if you watch all Julian's videos then you may change your view ....legal tender should not be term used for a collector coin unless cash service companies can get bank of england to recognise and exchange them.Tesco's bank said they had 1000's of pounds worth of coins they could not do anything with so why put retaier's in a position to proviide goods and then have to sell coins on ebay for a loss. Banks are also private companies and unless bank of englend accept them they just are a loss. If I sold you petrol and my bank won't take them and I can't bank them the legal tender argument is a scam by the royal mint. Just because Julian is clever using the debt angle for diesel as you have to pay afterwardss and offers legal tender to settle a debt argument it is just a precious coint the royal mint produce as legal tender which can't be banked. I never liked this as puts small business owners in a position, and if bank of england accepted from high street banks there would be no issue but then they wouldn't make out of silver so just a scam from the royal mint.

If those high value Royal Mint coins were illegal and not meant to be used as proper cash payment for goods like every other coin made and circulated in the UK then there would of been a law written into legislation. I understand that some people buy these particular coins purely for the sole purpose of collecting them and never actually intend to use/spend them, but the bottom line and legal standpoint is, is that the £100 coin together with the others are legal tender just like the 1p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins etc, only difference being is their higher value. If petrol stations, shops, supermarkets and stores refuse to accept these coins then this is their choice and is another matter altogether. Julian has every right to buy and use these Royal Mint coins however and whenever he chooses, to either collect or spend them. I have no issues or problems with what he does because I can see it from his point of view and he's well within legal right to spend these Royal Mint coins at his discretion and pleasure. Naturally Julian is going to run into problems at times because people are not used to receiving such unusual high value coins which are not common like the mass produced ones the majority of us are used to seeing and handling on a daily basis. I think if more people were to start buying these Royal Mint coins and use them for spending rather than collecting, this would help the stigma surrounding these coins and make more people feel comfortable about accepting them in shops and stores etc.

One was a fake 50 note, another was some sort of £20 note scam and another was a couple of cars that were together and one paid for the others fuel (£5 when it was meant to be £80) then the other person came in trying to pay the £5 leaving me £75 short. Juliqn has obtaoined over 240 pounds of goods and retailer stuck with coins they have to put on ebay to get maybe 70 to 80% back., and be an unwilling you tube star as the owner knew he had been on you tube after 1st visit. Then Julian now reported them to the police from one of his reply's. Julian you are a polite friendly guy but really ...you give someone a problem, get discount for buying fuel as you buy coins below face value. Then you upload video to you tube so guy not only feels a fool for taking a coin he can't bank , but it's on the internet and then you go there again and expect him to accept it politely. I like Julian but this has to stop and calling police on garage is not right. Julian you are better than that, you gave him a business loss made him a star and reported him to the police ........all for clicks

Correct - a parking space, away from a “highway” (defined as the road and any associated pathways etc) is not a “ROAD”.
Besides, for s164/5 RTA 1988 you must be DRIVING on a ROAD. Parked up, journey over … you’re no longer “driving”. That’s enough. I’d argue here you’re not on a road either… So whether a Road (or Highway) is irrelevant anyway, as the RTA doesn’t apply (unless you’ve been involved in a an accident).
NB. “You’re not leaving” is either 1) a citizens arrest or 2) kidnapping. Clarify which it is whenever threatened.
In any event, if you ever see people blocking you in, anywhere, with cones, wood, bins or worse still cars, then drive off. Top priority is your safety. Everything else can be resolved with the police or in court.
NB. You can even drive away from an accident or incident on the road if you feel threatened, even if it was your fault - provided you report yourself to a Police Station (technically within 24 hours) and explain your actions. Usually it’s best to call the Police once you’re safe. Thee Law and Case interpretation around this is all rather old, pre mobile phones! Remember judges are intelligent people. They will accept the threat of assault as justification to leave a scene. A quick call to the police is you’re golden ticket out of trouble.
In this circumstance, the police should be visiting these lads for the threats they made…

The term 'legal tender' allows UK coins to be accepted for payment of debts in court. ... Banks, building societies and shops are NOT obliged to accept commemorative coins - and never have been - as they are not circulating legal tender. Some banks do accept them at their own discretion, but this is unlikely.

@@julianchamberlain5399 that's your problem for filling your car whilst knowing you didn't have the suitable currency in non commemorative coins which don't have to be accepted. Commemorative coins can be used as a payment of debts in courts. That's what makes them legal tender but at no point is any store obligated to accept a commemorative coin as payment. However I will say if they said previously they were happy to take them then thays there problem but they have decided to withdraw from that as they are able to do.

Royal Mint website says "In practice this means that although the silver UK coins we produce in denominations of £5, £20, £50 and £100 are approved as legal tender, they have been designed as limited edition collectables or gifts and will not be entering general circulation. As such, UK shops and banks are unlikely to accept them"
