The ad in the middle of All I Need climax was criminal
Some info to help appreciate Radiohead:
Colin Greenwood (Bassist) and Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar) are brothers.
Philip Selway (drummer) has his own solo records on which he sings and plays acoustic guitar
Ed O’Brien (guitarist, effects, ambience) has just released his own solo album
Thom Yorke has a bunch of solo records and also a second band Atoms for Peace which also has Flea of red hot chillis on Bass. Also just scored his first film Suspiria, check out Unmade and Suspirium from that, beautiful piano songs.
Jonny has composed numerous film scores mainly for Paul Thomas Anderson, is massively into classical music and has just formed a classic record label. He is also a multi instrumentalist.
Much of the band actually play several instruments, each is highly talented.
Ed hasnt released the solo album as of yet bro what you smoking
scartissue121 Oh yes, just a sample song on RUclips
@@scartissue121 Jeez i was about to run to spotify
@@SkinsFirstGeneration I did just to make sure! Ed is a long lost cousin of mine and I've waited a long time to hear solo work, very excited
Still waiting for that Colin Greenwood solo album.
The first song is Bangers + Mash, from the 2nd disc of In Rainbows
Jacob Borg man I dislike this song :/
hjplant yeah not good
Jacob Borg one of my favorite radiohead songs
Love that song, ik a lot of people don't tho. I just find it so fun
this, 4 minute warning and Pearly are probably my favourite b sides
The second disc of In Rainbows is definetly worth checking out if you haven't yet
Radiohead are such geniuses, their B-Sides are still some of the best music out there.
last flowers...
Go.slowly is.one.of.my favorites
Last Flowers inspired me to learn piano. One of their best
Totally agree I think of in rainbows as a double album it's good enough
Be a good laugh to see you react to Radiohead live at MTV Beach House! A real classic from back in the day 😉
For real, you can see the similarities with that and Reckoner from the basement.
Oh god, Noooo!😁
I bet Thom wishes he could erase that from the internet 😃
Omg yes. He will be extra kind, I bet
To be honest, I have screamed in horror and run away, too. I get it, he wasn’t with his people. Luckily, his people found him.
King of Limbs: Studio Version first, then Basement Version
@Sonar Sonic Productions Yes please!
Hell yeah!
I agree but he is definitely going to like the from the basement version more.
NO FUCKING WAY!!! he must listen to the basement ver! bc i think hes gonna dislike the studio ver at first. the guy couldnt handle videotape
They are both very different and great. Also watch the live versions on The Colbert Report.
The instrument Jonny is playing in Where I End And You Begin isn’t a synth, that’s his ondes martenot, a really old electric instrument from like the 20s that Jonny loves and uses in many of their songs
Not entirely true.
He's using a French Connection (by Analogue Systems); which is partially a modular synthesizer. It is based on the ondes martenot though.
ThelemicMagick Oh, I guess I learned something new today! I guess it’s kind of both, then.
@@letthebeatr0ck I think the French Connection is what Jonny tours with, since the Ondes Martenot is an extremely rare antique...
That last section of Optimistic when they just jam out is so eargasmic, ever since I discoverd this live version I never went back to the studio recording. This is the definitive version of Optimistic for me.
Kid A is my favourite RH album. I enjoy the recording of Optimistic on the album, but like you, I also think this is the definitive version.
The live version is amazing, but the studio version sounds way more energetic and aggresive and that's how it's sopposed to sound like (?)
Every song on the basement sounds better than the studio version except for optimistc I think...
@@enriquehidalgo9478 I find that it really fits well on Kid A due to the nature of the recording. But if I had to choose to listen to just one recording of it, taken out of context of listening to the whole of Kid A, I would choose this Basement version. I find it brighter and more direct. It's all subjective of course. Hope I made sense. lol
Only downside of this version is you miss the jazzy outro into In Limbo. The studio version is sequenced perfectly for the album but ya this live version is just as good otherwise
@@enriquehidalgo9478 I actually feel like the exact opposite is the case. The final breakdown doesn't hit nearly as hard in the studio version as it does here, that is the primary reason I prefer this version.
IMO "Reckoner" is the pinnacle of Radiohead. Everyone can have different favorites but no one can deny the brilliance of this song.
@Gyanesh chaudhary Definitely agree. It highlights everyone's talent amazingly.
Jigsaw beats it, imo. Along with Weird Fishes and Paranoid Android
Weird Fishes for me but Reckoner steps it up a gear, an ageless classic !
I'm a huge Radiohead fan and I'm not really into Reckoner. But all the big fans I know have something they disagree with the majority on :)
Same, Im a huuge radiohead fan and am way more into weird fishes or jigsaw falling into place. I enjoy reckoner, its just not in my top 10, maybe not even top15. Just speaks to how good this band is tho.
Album version of King of Limbs is super underrated. It was a slight disappointment as a follow-up to the masterpiece of In Rainbows, but it's really grown on my over the years. There are only maybe 1-2 songs that don't stand up. Also the sequence of the last 4 songs of the album is on par with anything else in Radiohead's discography. Separator is one of my favorite songs hands down.
TLDR: Listen to the album.
@Mentaculus I'm so glad you love this album and especially Separator. That song is so underrated and also one of the my favorites from their entire discography.
Pablo Honey is super underrated! 😂
totally agree with the second half of king of limbs! but i love the album as a whole now
Studio version KoL first, my dude. Listening to it first and *then* In the Basement is the best way to do it.
I appreciated KoL more after listening to the Basement live version
"Go Slowly" is so achingly beautiful. One of my favorites.
You just knew I was going to go to sleep, didn't you?
This live session is gold, but what isn't about Radiohead? You should do "The Eraser" by Thom Yorke someday and "Anima" too 👍👌
@yann hollister Definitely Anima. I love that album.
The album and the Netflix Cut!!
I can see him liking The Eraser for it's melodies and sound, and appreciating the production and experimentation of Anima.
So experimental for Nightwalk u.u
Amok atoms for peace
I've got to recommend Elbow to you! They're another band that was formed in the late 90s and took inspiration from Radiohead. Sadly unlike Muse or Coldplay, they didn't gain any recognition in the US only in Europe. They just released their 8th album (3rd to chart at No 1 in the UK) so if you enjoy their stuff, there's plenty to get into!
Asleep in the Back or The Seldom Seen Kid are the 2 best entry points album wise.
The Seldom Seen Kid is such an amazing album
@@letthebeatr0ck A masterpiece indeed!
Can’t support this enough!
This comment echoes several things I wrote in my review of Seldom Seen Kid back when it was first released: laist.com/2008/05/07/cd_review_elbow.php
Also had the pleasure of interviewing Elbow’s frontman Guy Garvey several years ago, and even though I tried hard not to mention Radiohead during the interview, I messed up and still did anyway: laist.com/2008/05/08/laist_interview_142.php
Seldom Seen Kid is a magnificent album, agreed! I quite like its followup, too, Build A Rocket, Boys.
This version of "Where I end and you begin" is easily on my top 3 favorite Radiohead songs
Reckoner changed how I perceive music forever and opened the floodgates to Radiohead for me.
The climax on videotape is probably the best part of this entire performance, come on man
Bangers +Mash and Go Slowly are from In Rainbows disc 2- which is pretty much a bunch of b sides that are so good they mine as well have their own album (which you should definitely give a listen)
18:33 "We are all Radiohead fans here"
That sounded great
reminded me of this: ruclips.net/video/UHS3ci9H_Uc/видео.html had a laugh
Jonny is actually playing an Ondes Martenot in 'where i end and you begin'.
It's actually a custom synthesizer by Analogue Systems, called French Connection.
Let’s all beg for a from the basement version of amsp. ANY basement will do
Some trivia about Reckoner: there's an old and thrashy version of this song that they played live a few times back in 2001. They eventually changed it so much that it became something totally different but with the same name (the riff at the end is the only part that kinda resembles the original). Thom then restored and fine-tuned the original and released it as a solo single in 2009, called "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses". He played that one live quite a few times with his "other band", which eventually became Atoms For Peace.
I really hope you just misspelled "trashy" as "thrashy". 2001 Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses is God-tier.
SPInc oh yeah, my bad.
Do I Might Be Wrong. It's a live album and it has some of the best versions of some of their songs
That album requires drugs
Wilma Baird Radiohead music is pretty much a drug itself
Yee! Part 2 up SO fast, thank youuuu!
You really need to check out the second bonus disc of In Rainbows with the bsides. Go slowly and Bangers and Mash, and more importantly Down is the New Up and Last Flowers are AmAZINg songs.
Thanks for another wholesome video
Really enjoyed watching this with you. It’s fun to experience it with someone else who really appreciates it too.
The King of Limbs: studio version first
I'm so happy you loved Go Slowly! So relaxing, I listen to it a lot before going to bed.
You've no idea how much the basement helps me and you've no idea how good the timing you releasing this is. Thanks
You should listen to Thom Yorks from the basement there he is playing piano. It's just 20 minutes long but so powerful and beautiful, like he is from another planet
I really enjoyed watching you boy, I've discovered Radiohead long time ago... Since the beginning and I felt pretty freaky at my 13 years old in 90's but totally pleasure listening these beautiful sounds you have already discovered at your age. Enjoy as much as you can . There's no one equality. 💙
This made my morning
I think I speak for everyone when I say I appreciate your videos and opinions, mate. Great quality stuff.
You have such a great ear!! Makes me cry too!! His voice goes from his heart to ours and those lyrics. Thanks for helping guide my Radiohead journey at age 50!!!
Your Radiohead reactions are so awesome to watch! It's great to see someone that passionate about (making) music reacting to, in my opinion, the best band that ever happened to pop music.
Considering The King Of Limbs: both; studio first (please). ;)
It's mainly Radiohead just playing great, as they tend to do; but the perfection and layering is in the post-mixing.
After reacting to The King Of Limbs, may I suggest taking requests for Radiohead B-sides? They got so many of them and the lion part of it is really album quality.
Thanks for another great reaction. Really! I've totally enjoyed seeing you react, analyze and enjoy RH's music for what seems like over a year now! Crazy! Glad you really enjoyed Optimistic too. I remember you thinking it was good from Kid A, but I knew you would really dig this one due to the energy and power they played with here. Man, all of Nigel's From the Basement recordings were so expertly done. I recommend The White Stripes, Fleet Foxes and Andrew Bird sessions if you're into those artists.
'...try the best you can, the best you can is good enough.'
I just wanted to thank you for all these videos. When you don't have many friends that enjoy this kind of music, it's amazing how you can have a similar thing here on RUclips with other people that love this band. And watching your reactions to these performances is the best.
P.S. As many people already said, I think you should listen first the studio version of 'The King Of Limbs', and then listen and enjoy the live performance From The Basement.
True that! In all 33 years of my life, never knew someone could have so much similarities in the acceptance of Radiohead ...glad to know now. I agree to most of what he said...and how he reacted...so happy now
First, The King of Limbs studio version to know their approach and then, the 10x better From the basement version! The King of Limbs is an album that certainly needs to grow in you and it's very underrated.
I feel I just took a deep satisfying breath after watching this. It was needed ❤
Glad you liked videotape on this. It's so great.
You definitely should listen to more of their b-sides, especially Pearly* from ok computer. Pearly sounds 100% like what inspired muse, more so than exit music.
Love Pearly and Polyethylene x!
I love how you didn't like Optimistic in your Kid A reaction, and now you applaude it. Such a beautiful, groovy underrated song
You should definitely react to The King of Limbs studio version first. I could see you hating it, but it's very groovy or melancholic and beautiful. Pretty misunderstood, I used to hate it, but I relistened last year and now it's probably my 4th favorite Radiohead album. All the sounds are so intentional, everything slowly and subtly changing. You'll probably end up liking the live version more on first listen, but when the studio version grows... It's definitely better than the live. Both are good. But what sounded random and maybe messy or even monotonous on the record on first listen (for me) now seems very intentional and emotional, or just fun.
And also Go Slowly is defo in my top 10 of their songs. It’s just amazing, always chills. And the voice of Thom is so immaculate on this song.
In Rainbows disc 2 definitly deserves a reaction video :)
I know he has been hard on the drums in videotape but they remind me of the sound of a train going by a station. Which I think fits perfectly for the concept of watching a loved one's life go by in a videotape.
The studio version of TKOL is so “weird” but the live version is so so perfect. I think first studio version and then the live version.
I agree man this performance of reckoner is something I've been going back to for years. Everything about it is absolutely perfect.
Bangers and Mash, and Go Slowly are on the second disc of In Rainbows and the whole disc certainly deserves a listen..
Every members of Radiohead are either obviously or underatedly great
- Thom Yorke is the instense intuitive creative
- Jonny Greenwood is the "mad scientist", exploring sometimes old and weird intruments like the Onde Martinot and the mellotron. Plus he's the only one with a background in music study and compose the orchestrations for Radiohead and has written classical pieces and scores
- Ed O Brien is the king of ambiance with his costum stratocaster with a pickup for sustain and other incredible effects making his guitar sounding otherworldly (Treefingers is only guitar with effects)(he is releasing his first solo album under the name EOB) He's also one of the most passionate backing vocalist I've ever seen and has a great range
- Phil Selway has a really creative drum playing and is absurdly tight (and has a solo career)
- Colin Greenwood is probably one of the most underated bassist. Nice Groove, subtle but catchy and melodic fills, knows when and what to play to complement the songs in the best way possible..
This band has it all, everything in its right place ;)
Man, Videotape is what it is, the study version is an enigma in itself. best of all record
I highly recommend checking out the studio version of TKOL first. You might be surprised by what you hear!
thanks for showing love this album rendition for surre so gooood
Also, there is a version of Videotape with *just* Thom on piano in this studio if you just search it on youtube.
I think there are 4 songs in that set
@@morkmon There are! And it's wonderful.
Also check out the 2006 Bonnaroo version (ruclips.net/video/DTZt6Dzkq6w/видео.html). Its closer to what the song started as and gives you some understanding of the seemingly out of place elements that made it into the more stripped down later versions.
I'm in love with Down is The New Up from that session.
The drum always remind me a heartbeat given the context of the song, I’ve always appreciated because of that
I've been waiting for this thank youuu
I love go slowly, really glad u liked it too.
You should react to the studio version first i think. Only then can the basement version be really understood and appreciated imo
I understand man, absolute goosebumps.
In Rainbows disc 2, where that Bangers + Mash song is from, is if you ask me an essential release. You should react to it!
All the members of Radiohead are monsters and well balanced in their role.
Ed ambiant guitars and backing voice, Colin with bass lines melodic and groovy, Phil so precise, Jonny touches and plays all the instruments with perfection (guitar, Rhodes, ondes Martenot etc) and well Thom the soul and voice. Perfect combo.
I can not judge...
In rainbows from the basement
Is probably the greatest live take ever...
And it can bring me to tears after 1000 listenings
God bless radioheads genius
Would listen to TKOL studio version first for sure.
Go Slowly and Bangers + Mash are both from In Rainbows Disk 2, which is often overlooked.
When a song brings tears to your eyes, whether from happiness, sadness, or some emotion you can't even define... you know that song is a good one.
Nude and Reckoner both make me so emotional I think they are so perfect.
Videotape my Videotape, this is my way of saying goodbye. beautiful man
If you reactin’ to TKOL first listen studio version then from the basement. And you should also listen to b sides from in rainbows. First and last track from that live session are both there.
Can’t wait to see your reaction to Lotus Flower 😍😍😍
Radiohead: The kind of band that can help you through the most difficult times in your life, as well as make the best times that much better.
Can’t wait for King of Limbs! Studio first but definitely basement after, it’s amazing
I love how you tear up by a pretty arrangement, I do it frequently ❤️ That's an Odes Mones ( might be spelling it wrong, no time to look it up). Videotape: Listen to the lyrics. It's a like good bye letter when you die... So beautiful..
When they did TKOL, they actually made dub mixes with tracks they recorded themselves in the studio, so it's all about sampling. When they did the Basement version, they had to find ways of performing those songs and this made many of them shine. So going from one to the other might be ideal.
I’m amazed every version Videotape isn’t a consistent highlight for you, it’s one of their most transcendent songs for me
Thanks dude...yeah it's really nice to see you reacting to good music 😁👍🎧
If you keep doing reacts for radiohead...man, try Pablo Honey, it's the very beginning of RH and there's some GREAT (and forgotten) gems here beyond Creep.
Love how he’s like “......YESSSSSS.” At the end of every song. I’m the same way.
You gotta listen to the studio version of TKOL first. Highly underrated among fans.
I would agree but then he wouldn't be able to go to the studio version. Lol just my opinion
Michael Angeles what?
@@jacobneylon647 I was joking around implying if he heard the much better in the basement version of TKOL that it ruin the studio version. Sorry I didn't really make that clear
Optimistic and Videotape are my two favorite From the Basement performances. What helps me appreciate Videotape more is to imagine that the drums are actually "mimicking a videotape" instead of just having weird timing. We need The King of Limbs now.
You mean the sound when you put it in?
Great video!!
PLEASE First The King of Limbs studio version, then from the basement
In reckoner around 10:26 when he sings,
"dedicated to all you.
all human beings."
It's brilliant. it's like he's signalling to the listener that we're about to we're about to move into something similar to what came before but different. i also love the way they're always looking for harmony and when they find that groove, they ride it. radiohead has always been my favorite band. okay, i lie. there was a period where it was wilco.
What an adorable sponsor ❤️
Studio version first and basement after like you did for this!! You might not like the studio version much but its still very interesting, and the contrast will make you like the basement version that much more
The King of Limbs might be challenging on first listen but I'd still recommend listening to the studio version first and then the Basement version, because once you know the studio versions it's mindblowing to see how they recreate the songs live. The album is quite minimalistic and based around rhythm and texture more than traditional song structure, and I think you have to recognise that to appreciate it properly. But when I realised that it gave me a profound new appreciation and perspective on all of Radiohead's music. When you were talking about how important Radiohead's rhythm section is, keep that in mind when listening to TKOL :)
Love video tape. Love Jonny Greenwood. He is super talented as they all are xx
Bangers and Mash def gets me pyped ;)
Scotch mist or king of limbs need to be checked out cheers for another top reaction
Videotape is one of the only songs where I have to actively decide how I want to listen to it. It's brilliant.
First react to TKOL studio version, then to Basement version
And yeah, In Rainbows Disc 2 (b-sides) is definitely must listen. As well as all Amnesiac b-sides - Orgy, Cuttoth etc
I'm a Taiwanese who loves Radiohead and your reaction videos. Here are some creative alternative music from Asia I want to recommend to you and if you make a reaction to it will be nice. The album is kalk samen kuri no hana by Sheena Ringo, who is the music director of 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. It's a experiential mix of western and eastern music instruments. I once saw a comment in English said that Sheena is the Japanese Radiohead, for her creativity in Music I guess. Definitely recommended!
I love how the Ad comes in and he gets frustrated then Thom immediately repeats "It's Alright"
Bangers + Mash is such a Muse-y song
Radiohead is one band I wish you'd react to the lyrics to as well. They're such great lyricists, especially songs like Videotape
king of the limbs from the basement, comes with two extra songs....by the way, the special edition of in rainbows was a 2 cd set, go slowly was part of disc 2
Videotape live at bonnaroo 2006. It's like a completely different song. So much more energy
Genius!
you definitely need to react to The King of Limbs: from The Basement. You’ll be able to appreciate the album so much more. I absolutely promise you.
Radiohead is amazing and my favorites, but don't ever forget Nigel Goodrich. This is his basement. Everything he touches turns to gold, like Travis The Man Who 😊
After you listen to TKOL studio and basement, you should also listen to the I might be wrong live album- all the songs are great, but especially Like spinning plates which is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard
You need to react to their B sides. Eg The Butcher, 4 minutes warning & talk show host
Maquilladora!
And The Daily Mail, Supercollider, Cuttooth and My Twisted Word
And Molasses and Trans-Atlantic Drawl.
Everyone in this band serves a purpose and serves it well. ALL HAIL RADIOHEAD
Thom has a solo performance, just on piano, from the basement that you should see.
I know I say it under every video. But I still would love to see a reaction to Sigur Ros. Agaetis Byrjun would be great, or Takk.
RedVIII I love Ágætis Byrjun it’s such a beautiful album!
