You should definitely react to the From The Basement versions of these songs! It’s a bunch of In Rainbows songs, but performed by Radiohead live in the basement of a recording studio. The Nude and Weird Fishes versions from there are heavenly.

When you finally get around to Kid A, the best thing you can do is toss all preconceived notions out the window and go in with a completely open mind. Such a damn good album. Kid A and Amnesiac are a bit weird but they're among my favorite albums of all time.

Kid A and Amnesiac both take time for most people to really appreciate. I personally love both and it took some time even though I love the experimental nature and bravery of either one. I must admit though on an album level, nothing comes close for me like In Rainbows, every single song perfection.

  • @JMoney_TheGangster

The beginning of Nude is actually the end of the song, but reversed. Except for the drums, they aren't reversed.
Kid A's next. It's the album that comes after OK Computer. There's a reason it's called the "Greatest Left Turn In Music History".
Also, Thom Yorke (The singer) is the one who likes Billie Ellish. I hope I spelt her name right.
Oh and you gotta check our their From The Basement sessions. It's absolutely bonkers.

OMG I DIDNT EVEN CATCH THAT THE ENDING OF NUDE IS THE END! That’s a pretty cool way to end the song! You see, it’s little details like that one that make me appreciate the band much much more. Kid A is for sure next, so stay tuned for that! And thom Yorke and Billie have very similar styles when it comes to singing. Ofc 2 different genres but very similar singing styles! I absolutely loved that. And you did spell her name right lol. And I’ll be more than glad to check on those basement sessions, it sounds really interesting. Once again dude, thank you so much for your support! 😁💪

Enjoying your reaction so far..and don't worry about doing what you have to to avoid copyright strikes. I'd much rather hear someone talk over the songs I've heard a million times and pause briefly a couple of times than listen to a reactor that skips parts or omits most of the song.
"Nude" is arguably my favorite RH song. The strings are like melting butter on my brain..lol
The bridge and breakdown before the climax in "All I Need" is one of my favorite pieces of music ever written..
    Looking forward to part 2!!

I would love to see your reaction to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. It has that feeling of taking you to another dimension with the amount of different sounds they use. I also wouldn't worry about the lyrics for that album. It's one of my favorite album ever, and I've listened to it dozens of times, but there's only about 2 or 3 lines in the whole album that I actually understand. I also think Spiderland by Slint would make another great reaction. It's sort of the opposite of Loveless, because it uses more stripped-back instrumentation, and the lyrics are one of the most important aspects of the album. Both albums are among my favorites.

  • @memetherapy
    @memetherapy Год назад +5

Correct with the influences. Radiohead influenced by many, but Pink Floyd definitely one of them. They are often considered the Pink Floyd of our generation. Chorus of Lucky is a perfect example, both the progression and the style of guitar solo. Also, Billie Eilish and her brother are Thom Yorke groupies. The influence is pretty obvious too in their music.
If you're trying to understand the lyrical style before you get to Kid A, you're probably out of luck, because Kid A has probably the most abstract lyrics. His writing process was taking abstract phrases and just cutting them up and mixing them up... you can hear it through the album. There's a lot of repetition, but the delivery is very different making for a really disorienting experience.
You should check out the Live From The Basement of both In Rainbows and The King Of Limbs. It's probably as important as any album for Radiohead fans.

You def have a unique and refreshing take on reactions, straight from your thoughts, and that's a good thing. You can get close to that live experience you mentioned by watching their most legendary concert if not moment period, "In Rainbows: Live From the Basement" where you see just the 5 band members recreate this sound - it is mind blowing and so cool - once you finish it up it is beyond worth it to connect to the band in a badass way. To me, "OK Computer" is their all time greatest album, "In Rainbows" the most beautiful and them at just near flawless top of their game levels, and "Kid A" is their "Dark Side of the Moon" (though while your reference to undertones to Pink Floyd is one I agree with, THAT album is nothing like Dark Side sonically) - it is more it is their most experimental and at times challenging, but - it is just a straight up piece of Art as music, like almost nothing you'll have ever heard or may ever hear again. So, awesome takes, enjoying it, keeping it real, and sharing what's up to people like me who have been captivated by these 5 dudes (not that way, ha, which is fine, don't get me wrong, but...yeah, I'll stop now) - their music and again once you see them in a studio live playing this stuff and it sounds even BETTER you get sucked in even more. That is From the Basement - it is mesmerizing to watch the same 5 guys who've been playing together since 1986 still together (kinda rare in Rock historically) do their magic up close and how there are very few tricks - they are a 3 guitar attack band, at their core, and even when going into truly wild territory with Kid A, that core and boldness to constantly strive for a new sound every album is why they have the following they do and create music you can happily settle in and have with you for the rest of your life. I am seeing a side project which is "The Smile" - Thom Yorke the singer and rhythm guitarist/pianist etc, and Lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood - so Radiohead with 3 members sitting out - in 2 weeks and I will be in the first couple rows up at that stage and soak it all in man. And oh yeah man, hit you up with a Sub, saw it at 997, so can't lie, would be lit to be #1000, but trying to help the last push. Great vid! Peace//

A lot of these Radiohead lyrics that sound.so mysterious... I think they're that way because they point into looking into ones own mind. Like in zen they say to get you to notice the moon, the master can point at it -- but the fool mistakes the finger for the moon.
Unlike a lot of more disposable music, Radiohead's lyrics and the music cannot be divorced either; so for example in weird fishes you're drowning in that sea of sound, the undulations of those arpeggios, and the lyrics point to the subconscious (the deep waters where weird fishes swim, metaphorically speaking)

The hightpitch stuff on the background of Nude is most likely the Ebow Ed is using on the guitar. It's a plastic thingy that makes the guitar strings vibrate when you put it on top of it and it kinda makes it sound like a violin (that's why it's called ebow). It also introduces harmonics since it guitar pickups work by sensing magnetic vibrations and that's what the ebow uses to vibrate the guitar string, so it basically adds noise that adds to the sound of the string so you get those types of random things. I have only used one one time and they are kinda tricky to use because of that random noise you can get

A lot of people say In Rainbows is their masterpiece, but the true magic started with OK Computer. Kid A felt a bit lacking after the perfection of OK Computer, but there are still great tracks on the album. Amnesiac can be skipped completely in my opinion. And as far as Thom's vocals, you should listen to The Bends. It's definitely more of an alternative rock album, but it has some of Thom's best vocals, in my opinion.
