There's also a 4 song solo piano Thom Yorke: From the Basement that isn't talked about enough. He plays Videotape, 2 songs from IR Disk 2 and a song from The Eraser. HIGHLY suggest you give that a listen, no need for a reaction if you don't want but you should definitely watch it when you have a chance.
Why are your hands so tiny
Like any live version, it may be amazing and seem better, but only once you've heard the original because your mind is filling in the rest.
Never give someone a live version as their first listen.
Hey nightwalk, please react to in rainbows disk 2. Its really good!
Like I said, Weird fishes is no one’s favourite, until it’s everyone’s favourite
The perfect followup comment
Lol I have read you before
In concert... it started and it became a magical experience. Surprised me. Radiohead sorcery.
It’s weird for me to read that. It’s been my favorite Radiohead song (or 2nd favorite, tied with Subterranean Homesick Alien) since In Rainbows was released. It’s the same for several friends. I guess we’ve heard it a lot!
True
Holy shit.. imagine Moon Shaped Pool From The Basement. That's like... a total mood right there
Waiting like forever. We wont get that
My r/Radiohead Reddit flair is "darks deck from the basement". So yes, it would be such a mood.
Shame From the Basement doesn't exist anymore
I mean we already have The Numbers and Present Tense version in the park, but those are still mixed versions
When AMSP was launched, I hoped for a tour with the London Contemporary Orchestra. A missed chance that they didn't in my opinion.
So there's a spark of hope that there will be a Live From The Basement including at least a chamber orchestra; just as they added horn players on the TKOL Live From The Basement recordings.
In weird fishes, when you thought you didn't hear Jonny playing, he was recording a backwards solo.
yeah he is looping what he is playing and then turns it on everything at the same time

This show is one of the best things ever filmed. Hope you enjoy the rest!
Good pfp dude!
*first time hearing the Gloaming*
"Eh it's okay"

"Hey this is pretty catchy"

If you wanna hear more about what Ed O'Brien is doing with his pedal board and all that, he did a video with That Pedal Board Show, who are the people who built his pedal board for/with him. Talks about what they all do, what he's doing when he puts down the guitar and starts playing the pedals.
ED OBRIEN DEBUT ALBUM HYPE
I was floored when I realized what he's doing during Ful Stop.
4:46 Jonny was recording a guitar line into a pedal while the others were playing. That's why there's no sound coming from him. When he's done he stamps it on and his guitar line comes out reversed at 4:52
Thom shoving The Gloaming into every setlist is basically a meme at this point. I've been lucky enough to see Radiohead on 5 different tours since HTTT and they play that damn song every time. It really is a weird flex but ok
Andrew Galligan thom loves the hell out of that song lmao and i’m not complaining because that bass line is sexy
I've seen them 10 times now and the gloaming was played at 8 of the shows. Lmao
sake rocket that’s amazing man. What tours/where did you see them? I’ve only been able to see them twice. Once with bad seats in 2017 at Philips Arena in Atlanta and then I got GA, 5 people back from stage at US Bank in Cincy the summer after. Best concert of my life and I’ve been to many many concerts.
@@tylerbakermusic haha we've been to 2 of the same shows. But here www.setlist.fm/concerts/sakerocket1
sake rocket that’s awesome!! That’s seriously so cool man. Honestly that made my day haha. I love the Radiohead fan base.
The From the Basement King of Limbs is also mind blowing and much better than the album.
He's gotta listen to the studio version first to maximize his mind blowing listen to In the Basement.
It is.
TKOL is highly underappreciated though, in my opinion. Overall it might be Radiohead's most melancholic and perhaps even their most dreary album. But as Thom put it in an interview recently: "You know you're in trouble when people stop listening to sad music, because the moment people stop listening to sad music, they don't want to know anymore. They're turning themselves off."
I agree
@@NFrk97 Personally I'm much more interested in what his reaction would be if he listened to the basement version first.
Cannot agree more
Can you imagine being one of the few people in that room who got to experience this? They got a private Radiohead concert.
I think about this every time I watch IR:FTB and it just makes me sad
Weird Fishes is a grower over time ... Once enough time has passed, it usually ends up becoming one of the favourite Radiohead tracks.
Reactions I didn’t care for it much on first listen and now it’s probably my favorite Radiohead song
I agree and It's my #2 now, #1 - All I Need
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedd !
I didnt care for it for so long - it felt nice, but somehow the chords seemed to not have a 'release' for me, so I was sort of bored every time I listen. However over time I became so obsessed with the sound of it all that I fell in love with the song.
I think I've reached 3 or 4 distinct and increasing levels of appreciation for it over the years. Each time I rediscover it and fall in love with it even more it feels like I was barely aware of it at all before that point. Nuts. Incredible track.
17:18 and that's when Thom broke Nightwalk's heart ❤️
I hope you not miss all i need and go slowly on the extended version
kolaui kola judging by the run time whenever he’d move the mouse, it looks like it’s the extended version with those songs on there
For sure! Extended version is the only version!
@@_CoasterNinja no original version is without all i need and go slowly
@@Ajixxxx I mean that the extended version is the much better than the original because it has more songs, hence it is the only version in my opinion.
@@_CoasterNinja and it has "bloopers" 😂
Yay missed your Radiohead reactions, this whole set is awesome 👌
CHICKEN LICKEN, LOOSEY GOOSEY, HAVE YOU GOT YOUR FLYING GOGGLES MAN?
AMATEUR HOUR, THATS US!
I'm really excited for your reaction to Bangers + Mash
nice pfp
thom on the drums and singing is so dope
oooh this is the procrastination I need right now
Not the entire Björk discography, but man if you did Post and Homogenic someday that would be SO cool...
Vespertine tho

Homogenic is life changing
Everything save for Utopia
Scotch Mist is a trip and a half into Radiohead's soul.
Hell yeah. That version of Videotape is out of this world, it feels like I'm ascending to heaven when I hear that shit with headphones and the lights off.
3:04 Nightwalk is struck by the power of EEEEEEEED! A man-crush is born.
I feel like id be telling u to “shhhhh and listen to this part!!” if i was there lmao
Especially in that last minute of "Weird Fishes".
Yup. Annoyed me during the intro to 15 Step
you should react to the Lotus Flower
video, Thom's dance moves are great there
Oh man, that's funny. I had just gotten through rewatching your other RH reactions today.
Hope you're doing well dude. Thanks for another great reaction. Can't wait for part 2!
Watching this performance gets me so emotional. Radiohead is my favorite band of all time and they make the perfect soundtrack for my life, and I’m sure as well as others’. Thom Yorke’s voice is so soothing and the melancholy in his voice makes me feel his lyrics a lot more. Cheers for a great reaction.
'what ever one i'm listening to at the moment is my favourite' - I have never said that out load but you nailed it.
''Why does this sounds so good?'' Nigel baby, Nigel.
Thank you so much. I have watched this so many times and it was such a joy to watch it with someone who gets all the glorious parts! I always think about how much I would have liked to play in this band. Being a musician and be able to see how these masters do it, is just amazing. Just heaven really. This is my favorite album of all time.
Thanks for uploading this, D. It's great to see your reaction to one of the most beautiful sessions filmed in music history. No other stands besides it, only TKoL sessions from them too. And this is another good excuse to hear it again. You're going to love second part, hope you're uploading it ASAP!. Cheers my fella!.
Just in case you didn’t notice*
For weird fishes: Jonny and Ed start the first guitar part, Ed’s playing his epiphone casino. Thom joins in on guitar after the first two lines and Ed and Jonny start playing different variations of the arpeggios. When the song comes to the break Jonny is playing the Rhodes and Thom is playing guitar, this gives Ed time to swap out a guitar with his sustainer pickup for his droned notes during the outro. When the beat comes back in it’s basically just Ed and Thom and Phil. This gives Jonny time to start building his loop on his akai headrush pedal, Nigel is able to mute his mic so it isn’t heard. Then Jonny plays his loop after thom and Colin come in with their parts. Very special live interpretation.
What he did in weird fishes where he played his guitar and didn’t hear anything, he blindly played a solo to loop for the outro. That’s another reason why Weird Fishes is the Best off In Rainbows, the live technices
2:26 IMO the timing in Weird Fishes is part of the fun. Ed and Jonny are on different tempos and it really sells a feeling that the music is fluid. Like waves in an ocean, where everything moves separately and together at the same time. As much as the OKC > KA > Am > HTTT stretch of albums emphasized overlapping harmonies, IR > TKOL (and to a lesser extent AMSP) all deal heavily in polyrhythm.
I think one of the reasons I like Weird Fishes as much as I do is that it feels like the best mixture of both layers of texture that Radiohead likes to employ (overlapping harmonies and overlapping rhythms) together in one song.
Glad to see you react to this one! One thing you’re learning about Radiohead that we all love is you grow an appreciation for the music, and then you hear it live and are blown away. I wish this video showed more of Jonny playing guitar on House of Cards. It really blows me away when I discover what I’ve been hearing on the album is from his guitar!
Loving this! Thanks for putting it up. The reason it's such high quality sound is because Nigel produced it in his basement studio - he had a series where he wanted to capture bands playing live but with the best possible record sound, and he did an amazing job. You can look up "from the basement" and see a lot of other great ones he did.
So I was upset that you were doing in rainbows from basement before TKOL version but then I remembered that you would be reacting to go slowly which is one of Their coolest songs ever!!!
Love the Basement recordings! The King of Limb is nearly my favorite Radiohead thing out there. Least favorite studio album but the way they do the live versions are amazing!
30:11 😂
Wasn't ready for the
*C H I C K E N L I C K I N* ...
*_~~~G O O S E Y L O O S E Y~~~_*
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but Ed O'Brien is kind of like the John Paul Jones of the band. He's sort of the connective tissue to many of their songs. You can definitely see all the minor subtle things he does live. And when he gives out his "eeeeeeeedddddddd" it gives me goosebumps.
He doesn't have John Paul Jones' virtuosity (that's Jonny, if anyone in this band), but Ed absolutely does tie a lot of their songs together.
The intro of Lucky though, all that "ambience" sounds in a lot songs that he makes (and Treefingers is the highest point of that). He certainly have a lot to give, but he seems quite overshadowed by Jonny and Thom. Very few possibilities to bright. I really like his backing vocals. I hope to hear him sing in his upcoming album (he only have released one instrumental track from it).
This is a pleasant surprise on a Sunday morning. I see you Radiohead reaction - I press like.
These long-form reactions are fascinating and really fun to watch! I've been obsessed with RH for 25 years. There are a handful of songs that I didn't love at first listen but that have really gained my appreciation and love over time (and many listens). It would be interesting to see from your perspective a "top 5" list of RH songs that maybe you didn't like initially, but over time you've come to enjoy. Just a thought. Can't wait for PART 2!
Finally you did it! In rainbows is one of my fav albums and from the basement is brilliant
What makes these recordings so much tighter and cleaner than those of an actual concert is mainly post-mixing.
Though I prefer attending an actual concert for it being a more immersive experience and far more improvised, From The Basement recordings never fail to bring tears to my eyes. They top my live recordings list, together with Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" and Portishead's "Live At Roseland NYC".
Come to think of it, I guess I have a thing for heads. ;)
Very good 😂
I just stopped in to say right on! This session was one of my favorite by them. Good stuff.
You had the same reaction I had after hearing Nude. You just have to bow to something beautiful.
My buddy and I (both musicians) often see eye to eye on music likes. He wasn't much into Radiohead until I showed him this. Seeing them play better in a live setting than in a studio setting is something to behold. There one or two duds in this set, but as a whole it's untouchable.
Loved the reaction, great video, great music, great vibes
omg i've been waiting for this
2:00 why is the sound quality so good? nigel godrich is why lol
Probably one of the best live captation in history of music, astonishing !!!!
I have a giant crush on Thom and seeing him dance makes me so happy xD
I'd really love to see you react to some of their B-Sides and bonus tracks after TKOL, such as OKNOTOK, In Rainbows Disk 2, Ill Wind, Supercollider/The Butcher, These Are My Twisted Words and Ill Wind.
Yesss!!!
You forgot Ill Wind
YES
I've been saying that too! RH B-sides are truly incredible. So many tracks that rival actual album tracks. Staircase, Spectre, The Amazing Sounds of Orgy, Harry Patch, Fog, Talk Show Host, etc.
edit: also Ill Wind, very underrated track ....
I love your reactions, man.
Waiting for part 2 and also TKOL.
And I hope you won't stop there, others have recommended you great radiohead B-sides and singles and other stuff and I would love to see your reaction to all of that too.
Weird fishes is my favourite RH song and this live version takes me places, my head was shaking and nodding the entire time.
I just had this insight that I like to watch your reactions because they're really like mine. Like in the Weird Fishes you didn't like that much at first but now the song captivated you, and how it's hard to pick a favorite album "my favorite is the one I'm listening right now", it's always like that. Same happened to me and others.
I loved watching this and can't wait for the next and in my opinion, absolute best half of this. Especially want your take on the Videotape version. It has always been my favorite song and I was kinda dissapointed when you didn't like that but loved every other of my fave tracks on every album.
Never really been too crazy about weird fishes, but the performance on Jools Holland is absolutely incredible. Without doubt one of my favourite live performances from Radiohead.
Especially the last part.
It's not fair, the video is 31 minutes long but feels like only 5 minutes. Loved the reaction, looking foward to part 2.
I needed this today
I like how in he’s In Rainbow review he didn’t like Arpeggi, but now he loves it lol
Remember, that was his very first listen and a lot of Radiohead tracks take time and repeated listening before being fully appreciated.
it's because the guitar in this version is way more clear and vibrant
Its the crispness of the drums, i prefer this one over the studio version
This is my fav Radiohead recording, and I actually prefer this vid to the actual album, it just sounds amazing
19:44 I love that very natural reaction
I really like your reactions, you have interesting things to say
Historically the From the Basement videos are released after a tour of an album BUT recorded before the album's tour as a dress rehearsal or recital sort of thing before they go out and play shows live. That is why some tracks from In Rainbows aren't played and some classics are revisited.
Love the content!
Finally! Thanks my man
One of the aspects that makes this recording captivating is that you realize that what they compose isn’t accidental.
House of Cards can be best described as "Thom, Colin and Phil play a pretty pop song whilst Ed and Johnny get really fucking weird in the background"
I really hope you react to the full session including "Go Slowly" at the very end, one of the best songs EVER!
Tobias Müller if that song replaced house of cards on the original record, In Rainbows would literally be perfect. idk how other people feel about house of cards, but to me it's always just been rather dull and drawn-out and kinda holds the album back. never managed to grow on me.
@@CME1124 no
@@CME1124 nobody's perfect.
This performance is the epitome of Radiohead for me. There are many more bands I'd love to see in this very studio!
The sound quality might be because they are in a studio and are able to mix the sounds like on an album. I just love that concept for a live show.
hell yeah bro. Favorite live performance ever
This is so far my all time favorite album
You should check out Scotch Mist. It came out right around the time In Rainbows was released and truly captures the energy and vibes of the album perfectly. And as somebody else mentioned in the comments, you really should do The King Of Limbs from the Basement after this. It's such a better representation of how the album should sound. Making it more organic brings a tangibility to it that makes the experience so much more fulfilling.
You're becoming a true Radiohead fan more and more. Everyone has the same feelings towards "The Gloaming." xD
This set is mind blowing
Needa listen to the oknotok anniversary songs for the 20 years of ok computer. Lift, I promise and man of war. Absolute bangers
This along with the 'The King of Limbs From the Basement' are the two documents of Radiohead's live performance that I would take with me to the island.
Started watching this vid and then ended up just going back to the basement where all my problems are no longer
00:52 The sound is reverse delay of a guitar,
22:08 The Fuzzy bass comes from the Moog Synth (Johnny's Keys), playing the same notes with bass
26:57 That sound is Johnny playing guitar with a thick 1 pound coin. It is too difficult with 1 euro, really, I tried.
didnt notice the mic issues, was half asleep tho. this whole set, recording is so good.youre right about the audio quality too. Thoms voice is amazing still.
never realized how much this specific performance of The Gloaming is such a TKOL precursor
I would love to see you react to In Rainbows Disk 2! I find it quite underrated and it has lots of different sounds. It's similar to In Rainbows, but it still has quite a lot of differences and I feel like you would really enjoy it.
You should also make reaction to Thom Yorke (live from the basement) session
You know you are becoming a Radiohead fan for real when you have your first WTF moment during the Gloaming.
I watch these From the Basement performances of theirs religiously.
"Brings it to another level" - yep. With you there 100%.
I want this on vinyl. Best radiohead sound ever
My kitties woke me up early this morning and this is what I see. Best turn of events. ❤
Jess The Fox gotta love kitties
I really can't wait until you do KOL basement it's the perfect match between organic and electronic it's amazing.
You should listen to Portishead live in Roseland New York City. Just like with Radiohead from the basement, the songs sound even better live!
Great shout!
"Little waterfalls in your ears. So nice." Indeed.
Thom plays The Gloaming at almost every show. It's a meme in the community at this point.
Descendant of Kraff I’m so tired of seeing that, Climbing up the Walls, and Myxomatosis on the set list. And songs from TKOL.
@@jvickers9 bro, all of those songs are good (with the exception of some tkok), especially climbing up the walls
I'm sorry I never watched this in the last 3 years, but I agree with you SO much, I enjoy this even more than the album version and they sound FLAWLESS!
3:01 "I'm playin' it by ear" haha...nice pun!
I have to say, i've just recently discovered Exit Music from the Bonnaroo set and omg. You HAVE to hear it. I know you love Exit Music and this is the best version of the song i've come across, it's unreal.
What you call the bass grove at the end of weird fishes is actually Thom's guitar
Listening to the songs over again recently, House of Cards is becoming a favourite. Just really growing on me.
he did it, he finally did it !!!
Since you've haven't heard In Rainbows since you reacted to it (also, how is that possible lol) I'm not sure if you realise that some of those songs (The Gloaming, Myxomatosis) are not from In Rainbows
