  • Scammers are using an AI-generated “deepfake” video of trusted consumer champion Martin Lewis to convince victims to part with their money. Lewis has branded the new scam “frightening” and warned lives would be ruined unless internet giants were stopped from publishing such content from fraudsters. Deepfakes are realistic AI-generated videos of people that show them saying or doing things they have not done. Lewis, founder of consumer advice website MoneySavingExpert, highlighted the new scam on Twitter on Thursday evening.

Actually really sad. Martin Lewis does so well in helping us with our bills and then this happens!

  • @matthewshave7491

I don't blame him for how furious he is. A good man who has dedicated his life to helping people being used without his permission with the intent to con innocent people. It's enough to send anybody into a rage.

  • @RosskillbaneC

What if that Martin Lewis is fake. I don't know what to trust now a days

  • @musicjunk8266

Plot twist, we just watched a deep fake interview on the deep fake.

  • @harpalchauhan428

RUclips is another example of scam adverts

  • @andrewramsey7405

My biggest fear with AI is our own govm can use it against us, scary stuff.

  • @haydenharris3059

If people buy into anything on social media then they want their brains examining.

  • @TheZepone

My friend got scammed from this. He’s a 70 year old man, got scammed by 3k. So sad

  • @HG-tq7bf

That scam advert is still on RUclips I saw it this morning & was quite interested in it till I researched it further, why hasn’t the advert been taken off !

  • @marton349

Every platform should have the facility to report any ad. I just saw this one but no report function, only a block.

  • @yammydodger1988

Welcome to the world of AI, from here on, it only gets worse.

  • @stevenmaoudis1419

I have personally reported this to Facebook. In the last month, I have had over 70 fake sites taken down and even sent an email to Martin Lewis. The team at Martin Lewis said thank you, but there is nothing anyone can do. There are just too many and Facebook should be accountable

Unfortunately this is going to get worse and it’s the older generation that will suffer the most as they are more inclined to believe people. What I will say is I think banks are partly to blame for all of this encouraging people to bank online to close shops. It’s makes a big different to there profits but also has the adverse effect to the general public when they want to have a bank account and it’s managed by a human being you can actually go and see and speak to at your local branch and these people who work at local branches should be there to support the older generation to stop things like this happening….

  • @TheRampax

I just had this ad served to me on RUclips. I am a video professional so I'm pretty good at spotting fakery, and to me it didn't LOOK overtly fake, it just FELT fake. Like something Martin clearly wouldn't do. They have done a good job on this.

  • @R.S_Howell

I feel so, so sorry for Martin Lewis. He's smart enough to know he's not to blame whatsoever, but there must be so much shame and guilt knowing people have fallen prey because of their trust in you. He does not deserve this, he's such a blessing and has helped change so many people's lives.

  • @charlesnelson7781

Eyes are weird, but surely RUclips should not allow this to be shown,RUclips should be liable.

  • @shaundixon3645

I’m piss poor , but gonna get £2000 insurance pay out very soon , I was going to invest in this, thanks

  • @dencoates5618

With all the billions that meta make they should be monitoring these scams or are they behind it???

  • @Mitsiditsi

Just had this today as a Facebook ad , so Facebook are making money out of it

  • @wallyhall

Why Facebook doesn’t allow Martin to have them use their own AI to flag paid ads matching his likeness for him to review - would seem a simple way forward to reduce this surely?
