  • Experts are warning of the rising threat of cryptocurrency fraud, after the scams rose by 23% last year. And today, we're joined by someone who knows just how dangerous they are. Lisa - whose identity we're protecting - invested in a scheme on social media, which she believed was backed by Martin Lewis. But things quickly spiralled - and before she knew it, scammers had stolen £40,000 from her account. Scared and too embarrassed to tell her friends and family, Lisa reached out to Trading Standards, where she was helped by scams officer Janet Quinn. They both join us this morning to share the shocking story, as well as their tips for protecting yourself.

scammer used her details to mass-take out loans. The "cypto app/site" is always fake and just for show.
Sometimes scammers also engage in money laundering, its possible she received money into her actual bank (illegal money) and was instructed to send it to a random person (a chain of money muels, back to the key scammer. it muddies the trail of the money to protect the scammer and instead muels and scam victims can get into legal trouble)

It's shocking the ways people can be scammed. I work in banking and one of my colleagues had a customer who had some building work being done. A complete stranger in a van came up to the customer who is an elderly woman, and said she needed to pay him for the building work and she said she had no cash so he said he would take her to a cash point. She then got into this stranger's van and withdrew money for him. Thankfully he dropped her back home and nothing else happened. Please look out for your elderly family members.

Yet, anyone can give you financial advice or control your lifetime pension with little or no qualifications.
Why not introduce a new Chartership which takes years to qualify and then tell the country, only invest through these people.

I was in the Financial services and my Father was as well for over 40 years AND WE BOTH HAD TO TAKE COMPLIANCE EXAMS EVERY YEAR TO CONTINUE TO BE ALLOWED TO PRACTISE. If we failed on ANY PART we were given a second chance within a month, if we failed again WE LOST OUR LICENCE.

Unfortunately people just trust far too easily, rather than doing their own research. Also, the fact that she was too scared to tell her husband suggests that there was a part of her that knew something was not right about the whole thing.

The most obvious thing he states is he never is apart of anything online like a buy invest or spend he makes that so clear all the time every time he says if my face is on it that it still don't mean it's real

I feel for her, but i dont at the same time. As a grown adult you should know better than to click a Facebook advert and believe it to he true. How gullible can anyone be, its her own fault. Even my 11 hear old son would know better.
and she kept it from her husband because she knew that he'd put an end to it straight away

She fancied a bit of carlos thats why she ignored every red flag. If she didn’t like the look / sound if him she would have ran it by her husband instead of hiding phone calls, letters etc only once she realised carlos was long and gone did she bring it to her husband's attention 😅😅

I got in touch with an ‘investor’ once. First thing he did was to ask me about all my money and assets, lol he wanted to inflate my pride in myself then he tried to get me to invest monthly into stocks lol I told him I had watched ‘Wold of Wall St’.
    Thank God for Islam!

Financial currency spot markets are daily 24 hours casino operate legitimately however once you place a trade still takes your money. Your commodity broker of your side works with the institutional and major banks making sure that you are being stopped out once you place a protective stop orders.

So basically she is naive and gullible, didn't do her own research and this is the outcome. She even kept it from her partner, who does that.......
