Always go through eBay and pay via PayPal. NEVER pay out of eBay, any one asking for payment this way is a scam. I have bought on eBay for over 20 years and have never had a problem
ive used ebay for 20 years always had 100 per cent rating and never used paypal ever just check peoples history if they have other items and their rating and normal bank account is also fine to use
I'm sorry for her but she is her own worst enemy. She ignored all the warning signs and handed over money outwith eBay, PayPal etc to someone she did not know for something that she had never seen.
I'm not being funny but this is common sense. No one has had to tell me not to spend this much money online outside of a trustworthy website before even seeing the goods.
She was completely reckless. First not even viewing what she was buying and second avoiding all of the safety features of trading through the app. It was not even a very clever scam. They just saw her coming.
I will never understand people who hand over money before seeing the product. I receive scam calls daily, and just ignore them. Never trust the adverts on ebay. Unfortunately they are part of the problem. Scammers are very good at grooming people with emotional stories, such as death, disability etc.
Can see why the lady got scammed, she seems hard headed and doesn't want to take accountability. " I didn't make the payment on that day, Isde it the next day." So she had the whole day to think about the advice she was given and proceeded to disregard it. And she still thinks it's not her fault, smh
Why did he say it was a normal thing she did when it wasn't. It's hard to feel bad when the buyer completely ignored all advice , policies and never even viewed it in person. I can see if she did her homework but she didn't. Seriously
I saw a motorhome on eBay & knew it was a scam due to the low price, when I enquired about coming to view it, the location was KY16, Kirkwall in Shetland Isles. It all went quiet when I said Great I love a road trip.
If it looks too good to be true. Its 100% not true. This isnt ebay fault. People need to be more careful with sending money randomly to a woman crying on the phone.
Every time I hear these stories, it never fails, the scammed person is incredibly naïve and easily deceived. Listening to them you can actually see it coming before anything happens. No way would I EVER hand over so much as a penny for something never seen, and a seller never met. I have an extremely difficult time being sympathetic accordingly.
Sometimes when people's emotions are heightened they lose all sense of rationality. She obviously got way too excited and was impulsive and got caught up in the trap of it all.
There are lots of “smiling thieves” online and offline these days, they just bet on the victim’s’ sympathy, kindness and avoidance (to accept the reality of being scammed). It’s sad that many are not vigilant nor strong minded enough and they have to learn it the hard way.
Sorry, but you cant blame ebay. The decided to pay off the ebay site, which they tell you never to do. She should have done her research and realised that the motorhome was well below value and if she did, then nothing is to good to be true.
Sorry. but anytime we have bought cars from EBAY, the funds sent do NOT go directly to the seller, the funds stay in a holding account within EBAY and are released once vehicle is delivered. If you are a long time customer of EBAY....you should have known this and NOT sent money directly to the seller. Do your due diligence!
Good kind warmhearted people are trusting of others. Being a trusting person is a good thing. We all should be able to trust each other. Unfortunately Evil exists on our planet and when it hits a loving honest person it hits Hard! She has of course learned a lesson from this horrible experience AND instead of keeping it to herself and wallowing in self pity she’s actually putting her story out onto the World in order to HELP others showing her courage and strength!!! Congratulations and may we all be as kind and compassionate as she 🩷
There's a warning on eBay / emails telling you not to communicate or pay outwith Ebay themselves for this exact reason. If you've done this then it's beyond Ebay's control. This is you taking the risk yourself and ignoring the warnings.
So the bank told her not to trf anymore money and she did it anyway ..the price was too good in the first place she most probably wanted to scam the "old woman" not knowing she was being scammed 😂😂
Didn't think of it that way, she looks like the type who'd do that. And I think in the process of dealing with the people, who might be travellers, she was probably saying some nasty things about them
I'm always shocked to hear of someone sending money to a total stranger for an item they've never seen and may not be as shown or even exist! I'm sorry, but that's just dumb.
I feel for her that she got scammed! It’s disgusting what they did to her but i have to say when buying any type of motor you shall ALWAYS view it! Because there can be damage not seen on pictures etc. that’s what rings alarm bells for me, the seller not allowing her to see it 😅
Ebay should put a clear warning on every listing on ebay- 'DO NOT PAY OUTSIDE OF EBAY - USE PAYPAL FOR SECURITY< BEWARE OF SCAMMERS'...........it is sad this has happened to this lady.
I get people trying to sell me mobility scooters and i have to pay first but i only COD Cash on delivery so i dont bother anymore 😢😢😢 they are all scammers
WYF...THIS WAS NOT SOPHISTICATED AT ALL!!! SHE was not using smarts at ALL! y would u send money after money to a stranger for thing u have not seen....YOU DONT!
Ebay does not allow direct contact by phone. A buyer has to contact the seller through Ebay messaging. Don't understand where she found the mobile phone number.
I only purchased a mask during covid costing 2 pound i usually check the sellers history it turned out ut to be a scammer, even though it was only 2 pound i felt annoyed because if 500 people had purchased one they would have made a thousand pound for nothing,i did pursue it an got my money back out of principle, lesson learnt though i would never purchase anything without checking the seller's history, but i don't know how anyone can hand over thousands of pounds without seeing something this expensive first, she has learnt a valuable lesson the hard way,i do feel sorry for her though these people are scum of the earth.
Giving a deposit before u have even seen the item is ridiculous, I liked this dining table once the pic looked great but when I got there it was all scratched up, u could not tell on the pic though.
If she followed Ebay advice the would not have lost her money. You only do a bank transfer if you are there with the seller and you do it on the spot and get the log book and docs.
eBay is to blame? How? U skipped purchasing via the platform and sent the funds direct. This is clearly stated on eBay help not to be done. Ur bank and police should be contacted. To go after the money.
I wish they would just let the 2 women speak instead off keep interrupting. Wat point off having guest on if they don’t get chance to answer what be asked.
That doesn't make sense. If you sell or buy through eBay and follow their rules you will NEVER have a problem. I have been seller and buyer for over 20 years and NEVER had a problem.
EBay encourage you not to complete sales for items away from their platform as your not protected and there’s also no audit trail, evidence etc. Can’t put the fault on eBay for that. I see these complex scams as part of my job. Fraudsters will do anything to subvert anti fraud measures and use many techniques to gain your trust.
sent 10k to someone who she never met for a vehicle she never seen. shocking
How is it eBay’s fault when u tried to do a deal outside of eBay ??
Yes ebay always states never deal outside of ebay.....
Who hands over £10k to someone they've never met for a vehicle they've never actually seen 🤦🏽♂️
Agreed😮
an idiot NHS or not !
Because they knew the price was too good to be true but they wanted it that desperately they ignored that fact and blindly handed it over.
She did! 🤣
women.
Alison and dermot panicking cos the lady using the word "gypsies" 😂😂
Always go through eBay and pay via PayPal. NEVER pay out of eBay, any one asking for payment this way is a scam. I have bought on eBay for over 20 years and have never had a problem
I agree people have tried to scam me but ebay's always backed me up
Di is correct
ive used ebay for 20 years always had 100 per cent rating and never used paypal ever just check peoples history if they have other items and their rating and normal bank account is also fine to use
Never pay "friends and family" payments on PayPal either as it's seen as a gift and NOT a transaction.
@GazHogan that is good to know
I'm sorry for her but she is her own worst enemy. She ignored all the warning signs and handed over money outwith eBay, PayPal etc to someone she did not know for something that she had never seen.
I bought a book called "how to scam someone" on eBay 7 months ago.
Still waiting for it to arrive 🙂
😂 lol
😂😂
I can sell you another copy.
I'm not being funny but this is common sense. No one has had to tell me not to spend this much money online outside of a trustworthy website before even seeing the goods.
how is ebay responsible if you didn't make the transactions through ebay??
Absolutely!! Is she for real lol
She bought a vehicle she'd never seen ? Oh dear 😬
She was completely reckless. First not even viewing what she was buying and second avoiding all of the safety features of trading through the app. It was not even a very clever scam. They just saw her coming.

Headline should just be, woman rings a random phone number off internet and sent them 10 grand for a car they havnt seen
Can see why the lady got scammed, she seems hard headed and doesn't want to take accountability. " I didn't make the payment on that day, Isde it the next day." So she had the whole day to think about the advice she was given and proceeded to disregard it. And she still thinks it's not her fault, smh
EBayer here: you pay through your eBay account and it’s save. She did on a personal mission so that is her fault. Sorry darling 😂
I think people especially a certain generation have no clue of red flags & what to do instinctively when it comes to online stuff like scams.
Why did he say it was a normal thing she did when it wasn't. It's hard to feel bad when the buyer completely ignored all advice , policies and never even viewed it in person. I can see if she did her homework but she didn't. Seriously

I’m sorry I’d never buy a vehicle or anything over a couple of hundred pounds without seeing it first
If it looks too good to be true. Its 100% not true. This isnt ebay fault. People need to be more careful with sending money randomly to a woman crying on the phone.
I always buy vehicles through main dealers. Never online
Every time I hear these stories, it never fails, the scammed person is incredibly naïve and easily deceived. Listening to them you can actually see it coming before anything happens. I recently purchased a spin bike via PayPal credit. No problems. People need to be careful
No it wasn't, I would never have phoned a number off eBay how can anyone fall for this.
Ebay has no fault in this, all transactions should be made via the app/website, for full protection. Simple as that.
It's almost as if you aren't allowed to contact a seller privately on ebay...
There's a warning on eBay / emails telling you not to communicate or pay outwith Ebay themselves for this exact reason. If you've done this then it's beyond Ebay's control. This is you taking the risk yourself and ignoring the warnings.
A fool and their money are easily parted.
Lot's of red flags you were too trusting.
Never ever give your details to anyone you don’t know who is at the other end of the line scammers are criminals
So the bank told her not to trf anymore money and she did it anyway ..the price was too good in the first place she most probably wanted to scam the "old woman" not knowing she was being scammed 😂😂

Thankyou so much for this story, scammers are everywhere
"lost loved one" or any unnecessary backstory is a scam 100% of the time
im to paranoid for scams i still overthink when i know something is 100% legit and im only spending a tenner nevermind 10,000
So glad this kind of thing is being exposed!
I feel for her that she got scammed! It’s disgusting what they did to her but i have to say when buying any type of motor you shall ALWAYS view it! Because there can be damage not seen on pictures etc. that’s what rings alarm bells for me, the seller not allowing her to see it 😅
Literally, so much can go wrong buying a vehicle nevermind it being a scam
Ebay should put a clear warning on every listing on ebay- 'DO NOT PAY OUTSIDE OF EBAY - USE PAYPAL FOR SECURITY< BEWARE OF SCAMMERS'...........it is sad this has happened to this lady.
I feel sorry for anyone that is scammed.
There needs to be more Education about using computers to women over 50 ...
I didn't make another payment the same day..... (Silence) 😶.... I made it the next day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙈... Oh okay that makes it all better then lol
She didn't ask to see title
Its not ebay fault.
I get people trying to sell me mobility scooters and i have to pay first but i only COD Cash on delivery so i dont bother anymore 😢😢😢 they are all scammers
If he could learn to sit up maybe he could have Phillip’s role
Not the same day but the next day hahah ok that makes a huge difference then
She didnt use ebay properly.
There are many adverts on eBay listing a phone number.
@@iaing9028 Thanks for the heads up.
Why did she give 10000 to a stranger on eBay and what working in the nhs got anything to do with it
So sad so many people like that in this world I have been scam twice once with Enagic business and with a driving instructor.
Should have been more careful. What else can i say? 🤷♂️
A Scammer tried this on me
I drove 2 hours to his house address and got my money back or a trip to the dentist was on the cards
RuneScape has taught me so much in life 😂
Sorry but who gives money for something they haven’t seen 🤷🏼♀️

More needs to be done to Protect. buyers.

Disgraceful that the Police can't be bothered AND that sites like eBay etc DON'T take these scams down as soon as they are reported.
Always see the vehicle first...come on..
Who buys a motor vehicle sight unseen?
Silly woman buy from seller through ebay only. Calling the scammers number is a huge no no.
Not ebay fault. Sadly it's yours.
What a sweet person ❤ I hope gets everything back soon. ❤
I wish they would just let the 2 women speak instead off keep interrupting. Wat point off having guest on if they don’t get chance to answer what be asked.
Thank god Scofield has gone.

I lost the plot of this story. I have no idea what the help happened
we get it all the time with banks fake we say no
Reg flag with all the details with this moto home Ilene sorry that you was scammer
Wouldn't ebay give their money back though?
Not that much think youre only covered up to certain amounts.
PayPal will get your money back IF you have paid through Ebay properly. She paid privately which is a huge NO NO as eBay will tell you.
@@disymes9857 well yeah there you go. Partly its her own fault
She didn't go through eBay. She called direct. There was absolutely no connection with eBay apart from the hosted advert.
Well more fool you
Don't be nasty!
That’s so sad she lost her husband. Poor woman
Why does she keep crying l don't understand
Beyond naive !!!
A lot of the fault is through eBay now they have changed payment options so can take their fee before you get paid

My goodness, that lady looks really good for being 78...
Great gene's apparently..❤
HAHA!
I love those two. What a joy. ❤️🩵💙
Sorry but who gives money for something they haven’t seen 🤷🏼♀️
