- In the past six months alone, 40 million people have been targeted by scammers, a 14% increase on last year. A particularly hard-to-spot scam called number spoofing is also on the rise, where a scammer is able to modify their caller ID and mimic the number of a company or bank.
26-year-old dog trainer Millie Clark knows this scam all too well, as she was conned out of over £20,000 when she received a call from what appeared to be her bank. After she nearly lost her business, Millie joins Holly and Phillip today to tell her story and warn others about number spoofing.

I am so paranoid that I always call companies back with numbers I get for myself. Even the police knocked my door and I checked police station to make sure it was the real police.
I've just been targeted by fake bailiff enforcement company. They got nowhere and I phoned police and CIVEA got them investigated.
@@lifelongred7056 I saw people in one of the local Facebook groups talking about that. Apparently they are just casing people's houses. Have a look around your property and make sure they haven't marked you
It's good that you're paranoid but i bet you don't get scammed, though
@@briangatt2956 they still try. I had 2 phone calls this morning actually, claiming to be Visa. I just hung up
It's better to be safe never sorry. You can't be too careful these days
People need to understand that the telephone number on your card is the number you ring when you are in trouble to connect to your bank. It isn't the number the bank uses too contact you. So if you see that number then you should know its fake.
Don’t talk to unsolicited callers. Simple.
I don’t answer phone calls I don’t know. I let it ring out then I Google it.
If I get a text like that I don’t click on it and I contact the company myself as I don’t trust texts out of the blue same if I get texts from the bank or credit card companies
She clicked the link 🤦🏾♀️
i get them from o2 every week saying they can offer me 50% off my bill. i say whats my name and they put the phone down
They'll keep doing it till you start telling them you had their mother last night. That's the only thing that gets their attention. I went from 100 calls a day to 3 week.
It's shocking they can use bank phone numbers to call people.
That's not true. They only change caller id but number is not from the bank.
They do that through VoIP which is basically a telephone service delivered through the internet. Any number can be created for caller ID purposes. The caller may not necessarily be in the country whose numbers they are using.
Her first mistake was keeping money in the bank. That's the last place you want your money. People don't care and don't do their research. In 100% of cases the banks always end up taking all your money. Just depends what part of the cycle you're in. If it's the trust building cycle you're in luck. If you're on the back end you learn the hard way.
I'm amazed she actually had 20k in the first place.
Dog walking is not the only service she provides if you know...
She didn't. They scammers took loans out in her name using the details that she had provided to them.
@@zeebee6 : How did they do that? I just applied for a $1k CC and I had to take a picture with my Gov ID, Send a 10 sec video, provide lots of personal information from the past 10 yrs and it still took 5 days. And I have 30 years of credit history for about a million bucks.
plz tell me how can I get money back from that lady she lives in UK
We’re the scammers talking with an Indian accent?
Bud bud bud?
And call themselves John Smith
We are the scammers?
Got a whatapp a week ago with a lady who was from 'total jobs' asking if I wanted a part time job paying £3,000 a week 😂 i asked her where she got my number from.. apprently the british govement so kindly gave it to her, i asked her to prove it and she avoided and carryed on asking about the job. I did report it to whatsapp but there was no option to why i was reporting the number.
😂😂😂😂 Anyone can contact the British government for personal information.🤔 That makes sense in a scammer's world
It's usually greedy people who get scammed!
Youll grow up out of this dum statement
