Doing business with Taiwanese is the most amazing experience. I’ve made so many transactions where I payed cash upfront and asked the seller to send it to my country (EU) and after a month 700kg of items arrived in mint condition. I love doing business with Taiwanese- great people of honor.
The PC builder was super genuine with choosing the parts, even though Linus said he didn't know anything about computers. Huge props to the guy, he did an amazing job!
This is 100% true. I assemble builds all day at work and we always leave the peel on when we can. Mainly because our finger prints would be on the glass from boxing it back up. If youre a jerk we definitely peel it off tho.
Removing peel from your brand new should be personal right kind of shit and nobody should be allowed to peel it of or they can be charged for criminal offence. I buy phones online bcoz they come all boxed up and i get to open it all and in the shop those mofos always unbox themselves.
LOL, that's a middle school 8th grader. The news media in Taiwan just interviewed the kid and the PC vendor today. The vendor did not know Linus is a famous RUclipsr. What a great story!

found the perfect person to give it to. So stunned and happy to meet you, agreeing how lucky he is... BECAUSE HE GOT TO MEET YOU, not even knowing he was getting the PC.
Even though there was the RAM issue, any normal somewhat savvy customer would have asked for a certain amount of RAM installed and very likely insisted it ran at the rated speed. And 32 GB is plenty for a gaming rig.
@@NathanExplosion99 I agree with your statement, however I'd like to add my 2 cents. $5k is overkill for a gaming PC and enters into production/content creation. I feel like the 64gb of RAM is justified in this setup. But this is all hypothetical
@@adriansolis5362 Not a great kit doing it 4x 16 though. At 2x32GB you can easily get 6200 or 6400 MT/s on Zen4 without much hassle if you're running a 7950X or 7950X3D with the revised BIOS.
Linus just casually dropping a $5k PC on a local high-schooler... Pretty cool that the builder didn't recognize you, now he gets to benefit from his randomly-publicized high-quality work! I bet he won't be on the 5th floor for long!
When computer tech dude said you can still find him 3 or 4 years later if he wants shows he's a good man who values his customers and the business he built.
I LOVE that kid at the end going full boot load screen trying to process what was happening. Small shops are awesome. I had the best PC repair guy in Houston (he was from Taiwan) and he loved that I would bring him parts ready to fix and charged me next to nothing because he knew I loved to repair things. Was very sad when he ended up moving back when his parents got older and needed help.
small shop owners who build the systems themselves probably have a passion for building PCs. its about the craft, not the money. and $5000 USD is a huge margin, probably can go all in on the specs and still make a pretty penny. His skill level definitely deserves it tho
The dude that bult the PC is ACE Tier!!! He probably would've caught the memory issue if had a few more hours. He was still testing when Linus walked in. The kid that won the computer will never forget this day for the rest of his life. The young girl was genuinely happy for him.
This is one of the best LTT videos I've watched in a while. Please do more of these, like going to a local shop somewhere, supporting a small business, and giving the finished product away to someone. The only thing I'd change would be to interview the person who builds the tech at the end of the video, and reveal everything them at the end. I think that would not only make them very happy, but it would also show us the passions of the people that run these shops. Very good video, thank you!
Interviewing the builder would mean that they mention who he is, and the name of the store... and then LTT would be kinda responsible for whatever they do with the new clients they get. It's almost like a "sponsored recomendation" but without the sponsor part, so it's not worth the risk.
Honestly, no one was more deserving of that PC than that young man on the street corner. He was genuinely grateful just to MEET Linus, so the absolute shock and awe when he was told the PC was his…what a great man!
Fun thing about asian tech malls is that every shop is inventory, so theres no need to keep stock. just buy it from the shop next door etc or from the wholesaler
I was truly rooting for the dude who had the PC store to be a class act. He probably took a massive risk opening a PC store and just wants a shot making cool PC's and people happy. Hope he's doing awesome after this video as he deserves it. Wish more places in NA were like this where they can make money but also care and make awesome stuff.
This PC is absolutely nuts. $5k for these specs and looking this incredible is terrific. Big props to that builder. He offered fast, reliable service, to link back with him for years if need be, to a customer he (allegedly) believed to be ignorant. I bet this kid had his mind absolutely blown when he got home and turned on this PC 😂
@@Schradermusic Option 2. The GPU + CPU + RAM + SSD combo is at most 3 grand in the US right now so another 2 for hard tubing and a few other components seems an equitable price. Linus played up the CPU choice a bit but it's currently just $475
@@Thurgosh_OG Those may be western world prices but for TW specifically, those parts might cost a bit less. Might I enthuse you to recall where much of the world's top end consumer chips are manufactured?
@@Thurgosh_OGit's around $500-550 for my country (just a quick math, cba to see if that's true), but ye the gpu itself is like almost 2k (quick search and google shopping).
There have been a lot of good LTT episodes recently and throughout the years… but this definitely tops the list for me in every way. Giving the computer away, especially to someone who obviously will really appreciate it, that took this to another level. Thank you for all the awesome work Linus and team. Amazing!
Linus. The reason for the slow RAM is that 4 RAM sticks are not supported at high speeds. The 7950X3D is rated by AMD for 5200MT/s with 2 sticks and only 3600MT/s for 4 sticks of RAM. The memory controller of the CPU just can't handle that much.
That builder is an artist when it comes to building custom PCs. You can clearly see that this passion has probably followed him since he was just a kid. I feel bad that he was blurred. He should have been seen and interviewed in the end. He really deserves business, unlike other stores that put some junk together just to rip people off.
18:55 legit Windows 11, but not only that. It's the Pro version instead of Home version. There really isn't a difference for most users, but it's definitely an extra plus. As a Taiwanese PC builder, I feel so proud.
@@earlem9771 Yes! That truly is something Home doesn't have and Pro does. but genuinely, I don't recommend all users to turn it on. The data are so safe with it that even the owner him/herself will not be able to access the data😔. "Cherish your data, and stay away from BitLocker" has become a common saying in the Chinese PC community. Nowadays, a lot of laptops come with bitlocker activated on default. I've already seen thousands of people lost all their data while upgrading their SSDs.
12:53 my jaw dropped… 20:29 he warmed my heart. Couldn’t have happened to a sweeter looking guy. Such a heart warming story all around. Thanks for all you do Linus.
They should do video like this. I actually watch the whole thing. I dont have the budget to bulld a computer like that but giving away to someone who admire your worl is even better. That kid deserves it.
One thing no one seems to ever check is the spec sheet for the CPU itself.. for a 7950x3D, max memory speed is 3600 with four DIMMS.. (the seller probably already knew this) Trust me I learned this the hard way.. there is no stable AM5 system that is running over what the CPU is rated for. Max Memory Speed: 2x1R: DDR5-5200 2x2R: DDR5-5200 4x1R: DDR5-3600 4x2R: DDR5-3600 (from the AMD website)
Officially sure, but DDR5-6000+ is achievable on all 7950x3d's that I've seen with proper settings and a decent dual channel kit. Some have been able to run 6400 but I can't get it 100% stable. I have a lot of experience tuning memory on Zen systems
I was born in Taiwan and have been to Guanghua Mall many times. Taiwan is a tech country, so lots of people, especially the younger generation, have pretty decent knowledge in computers. Besides, Guangha Mall is like one of the biggest tech mall in Taiwan, the competition there is crazy, people would literally argue with you and leave you bad feedback if the part is $100NTD ($3-4USD) more expensive than another shop. So you can hardly get ripped off there. And judging from the shop owner's reaction, it's very unlikely that he knows this channel. There are already tons of tech channels from Taiwan and China, and those are the channels the tech enthusiasts in Taiwan would usually go to first. About sending Line message at midnight - it's just how people are like in Taiwan. People in cities usually stay up pretty late because there are still lots of things you can do/place you can go in midnight. The shop owner might finished the work at 9pm, had a dinner with his gf at a restaurant, went to a night market, came back home and took a shower, then dropped you a message before go to sleep. If you want you can reply right away, or you can just leave the message unread and reply the next day. We wouldn't really consider dropping a Line message at 2am is rude, unless it's a phone call.
The messaging part is true. I am from a South East Asian country. To us, messaging you at night is to keep you updated and we do not think we are being rude. Generally people just mute or shut off their phones in the evening. We rather we keep you updated and when you wake up and read the message, you know we have been keeping up with your request.
I think PC/Tech stuff that's especially true. Lots of people have global "online friends" they chat with anyways, and probably figure you know how to turn off notifications if you don't want to be messaged!
Who does not put his phone in "Do not disturb" during the night if he is sleeping? No problem at all messaging at any time of the night, I will just answer the next day.
Well said, Guanghua Mall is amazing. I stop by there everytime I visit. You get great prices on all tech products. You can also shop around within the mall there, great place to practice some haggling skills. (it seems uncomfortable, but it is just part of the commerce over there)
Can’t think of a better person winning that. Humble, polite and respectful, clearly loves computers and someone who will never forget that day. Very noble of Linus.

I feel like Linus saw a respectable kid, and forced his way into getting him to start the convo so he could give him the pc. Super chill kid, and i bet he will never forget it.
that computer is future proof for at least 5-7 years maybe more if all the components hold up. I'm sure every time it fires up he'll think of that moment.
@@geeleiia8807 future proof doenst mean usable for a $5000 pc. Future proof means it should still be able to run all games at high quality without breaking a sweat. I see a 4090 doing that 7 years from now. Atleast at 1440p. But 15 years? Maybe not.

While this is very cool, I do recommend coming to Hong Kong, more specifically Wan Chai's Computer Mall, to check out and build a custom PC. It's not as impressive as Guang Hua Digital Plaza, it's still not too shabby either and sells MANY cool things
1. That random guy building PCs in a small corner, totally blew lead brand SI into oblivion = Absolute champion! 2. Random kid on the street completely lost the plot out of sheer joy and surprise = Epic!
I love two aspects of this video: 1st is the sheer respect of the builder to provide such a high quality service and be so responsive. 2nd is the look on that guys face, seeing someone that happy made me so happy.
The professional and passionate PC builder, the humble and lucky school kid, the giggling and sweet smile of the girl, the vibe of this video is just as perfect as those Taiwanese people.
it's 100% Taiwan vibes, helpful and honest small business owners, respectful youngsters who are happy to interact in english, nobody trying to rob your expensive valuables. The country has its flaws but overall it's a S-tier country
Don't forget that Taiwan salaries are much lower than in the USA and Canada, so this should be worth way more to him than to the majority of the channel watchers.
I could only dream of having someone this awesome to build a PC for me in the states. The things I've been seeing about customer service lately from companies like ASUS make me wish all tech companies had personalized experts for customer service like this.
9:27 it kinda helps that they are in a massive multi storey tech mall. "oh no I'm out of 4090s and watercooling blocks, I guess I'll have to walk 20 metres to the shop with hundreds in stock"
I live in Taiwan and have bought a number of PCs at Guanhua. My service in general always been good too. He said it will come with a one year warranty, but the components will likely have longer warranties if that is what they came with. Even better, they often go beyond what they need to. I had an MB problem on my 3.5 year old computer, leaving the MB out of warranty. I brought it into the service center and they verified the MB was dead. They contacted MSI for me and I was quoted $1000nt (~$30usd) to service it. Included in the $1000 was shipping to MSI and back to Guanhua. Three days later, they called me and said my computer was back and ready for pick up. When I got there, they hooked up my computer and ran some diagnostics. I can't be sure, but it looked like the MB was brand new, though I can't be sure about that. After the diagnostics on the MB, the tech (perfect English, used to live in Hawaii) said he felt it was a little slow to boot up, so he ran diagnostics on the drives. My main m.2 drive wasn't performing as well as it should be, so he suggested getting a warranty replacement on that. I said I would clone the drive first and do that later. At that point, he said that MSI was going to wave the $1000 fee, the shop wasn't going to charge me, and sent me on my way home. A few days later, I brought the m.2 drive back, they tested it, sent it to Kingston, and a few days later, called me to come in and pick up the new drive. All of this on a 3.5 year old computer, part of which was out of warranty. I love the service here in Taiwan. BTW, the shop you bought from probably wasn't quite as independent as you might have though. There are a handful of main shops that have outlets like the one you were at, but they are all part of a big company. I don't know all the names, but I know mine was part of the CoolPC group, and there is also one called CarBuy. The builds are all done at their service centers on Bade Road, within a few hundred meters of Guanhua. I would be shocked if your seller was any different. Probably being a part of a big organization is why they can get even kind of rare parts as quickly as they do. You didn't mention it, but unlike what a lot of people might expect, there is almost no haggling/price negotiation here. You might get a relatively tiny discount, or a few freebies from manufacturers thrown in, but the price is more or less the price. I am surprised though that they didn't ask you to pay 5% more because you paid with a credit card; that is pretty normal here. That is probably why they were hesitant to give you a receipt. I always pay cash (real cash, not debit, not cheque) and have always been given receipts. Also, for warranty, they typically put a sticker on each component showing the date of purchase. I would be surprised if yours don't. Interesting to see another Canadian's reaction to the experience in Taiwan.
Probably one of my favorite LTT videos in a long time. Guy absolutely delivered and those tubes are immaculate! So happy to see even smaller shops in other countries get well deserved credit. There's a lot of bad apples out there, but there's also some really cool guys like this one that know what they're doing and do it well. Also extremely happy with the ending, guy was nervous and was very unsure of his English but was rewarded for it.

Now I have a Taiwanese wife and daughter and I plan to retire in Taipei. Really enjoyed the video and happy for the sweet guy at the end.
Yes, because every English speaker in the world who works with technology watches this one Canadian Tech review channel. LTT is widely known, but he isn't movie star recognizable. I would be willing to bet that if you showed his picture to 10 random employees at Intel, Best Buy, Nvdia, Microcenter and NASA you would get less than a 50% recognition at each. You and your circle of associates watch so it feels like everyone does but he isn't THAT popular. a few million views per video out of 1-2 billion english speakers is nothing.
That boy in the end, his genuine happiness for simply meeting Linus was awesome. He'd probably treasure those 2 memory sticks that were removed as a gift, but instead got a one heck of a PC. Well deserved if you ask me!
Gotta love Taiwan. You can just travel there, drop 5K$ on a random shop, say "I want to play at 4K, make it awesome", pick up an amazing custom computer a few days later, carry it back easily by bus, and all of this without speaking the local language
@@Steve-bc2cl eh, that's true for a lot of Asia. @@kennethverana5885 It depends. Taiwan manufactures a lot of high end chips. TSMC, the largest foundry in the world, is based there and makes chips for AMD, NVIDIA, Apple, most phone manufacturers, etc. Lower end chips (controllers for example) might come from elsewhere though. Once that is done however, final board assembly (putting the chips on boards and soldering everything) or device assembly might be done elsewhere (like mainland China). For example, Apple's A16 chip is made by TSMC in Taiwan (most likely since they have a few fabs in other countries, including China) but the iPhone is assembled in mainland China and India. Additionally, a number of significant tech companies are also Taiwanese. These include ASUS, Acer, MSI, ASRock, G.Skill, Gigabyte, Lian Li, etc. for consumer oriented companies or Microtek, Realtek and TSMC for the chip designers and manufacturers.
I am 62. My first personal computer was a knock off Apple II that I bought from the old Guang Hua marketplace around 1983. The fallowing decade saw proliferation of knock off IBM PCs, all illegal as hell. That just goes to show you how long Taiwan has been in the PC built game.

That builder deserves more recognition. That PC was incredible. Also, that kid that won the PC had the perfect reaction. Good for him.
Even though there was the RAM issue, any normal somewhat savvy customer would have asked for a certain amount of RAM installed and very likely insisted it ran at the rated speed. And 32 GB is plenty for a gaming rig.

If he did too many it would lost its magic, but every so often this would be great.
Interviewing the builder would mean that they mention who he is, and the name of the store... and then LTT would be kinda responsible for whatever they do with the new clients they get. It's almost like a "sponsored recomendation" but without the sponsor part, so it's not worth the risk.
A downside of that is if they ripped him off and he interviewed them then the shop would be ashamed, might be bad or good but I think it's bad
yeah that was really, really cool. It felt like I was watching LTT from 4 years ago!
Problem is everyone who ever watched computer videos on YT at least have seen his face on the video thumbs.

Officially sure, but DDR5-6000+ is achievable on all 7950x3d's that I've seen with proper settings and a decent dual channel kit. Some have been able to run 6400 but I can't get it 100% stable. I have a lot of experience tuning memory on Zen systems
Yeah, I'm running 16gb x2 DRR5 6000 on my 7800x3d perfectly stable.
Every time I learn a little more about Taiwan and their people, my heart is warmed. I've only ever had positive interactions with Taiwanese people.

Thank You for the insight.
This is super informative, thanks for taking the time to post this
taiwan number one!
that's exactly how it works in guang hwa market, and you find ATM in EACH floor for that purpose
That kids reaction was the most wholesome thing I've seen in years ❤️
Genuinely a joy to watch!
His reaction did leave a teardrop in the corner of my eye. 🥲
To say he was a deer in headlights (bicycle lights) is an understatement. :D
@@nexusyang4832we all wish, sometimes, for the 100 tonne semi that is linus to bear down on a doe eye viewer.
Seriously that boy looked like he was in a dream. It really did bring a tear to my eye.
I loved how linus didn't do a Mr Beast. No screaming or yelling needed. Just fluttering around scattering PC like fairy dust on the people
First video I ever saw from Linus. This was so wholesome! I love the idea, that this small shop owner did his best for the client, even though he could make fast cash. I hope, his business is skyrocketing.
The fact that he was so humble enough to say "Yes, it's very lucky for me" when meeting someone he follows, makes it SO MUCH more better that he got it. Best part of the video in my opinion. Congrats!
I was glad for the boy who won the PC, hope he enjoys it. It was truly the definition of being in the right place at the right time
That kid was EXTREMELY excited. You probably made his LIFE, and will cherish this. He will probably go on to tell this story over and over again. What an impact, Linus!
He doesn't need to tell anyone, he made the news. Bro is famous
I'm really happy for that nice boy who was just pleased to meet Linus let alone get an amazing PC. And that shop seemed excellent.
Awesome ! The video stacks up :
- Taiwan
- Amazing PC (the look is sick)
- Genuine happy lucky guys
Thanks !
Even the comments on this video!
That bloke was speechless, genuinly speechless. It wasnt much of an interaction, but i loved how real it was. Just a dude, star struck, and mind blown.
The most amazing video I’ve seen in a long time. I was fully entertained and loved how that guy reacted when you gave him the free computer. The computer looked amazing and he really lucked out. Keep up the good work. 22:12
@@davidwebb8664 absolutely agreed brother
That kid was awesome. Perfect person to win.
That kid who got the computer is indicative of what all Taiwanese people are like. Sweet, humble, kind and thoughtful. I'm an American who went to work there for a year 12 years ago. Now I have a Taiwanese wife and daughter and I plan to retire in Taipei. Really enjoyed the video and happy for the sweet guy at the end.
Only if you are white.
living the life, love to hear it man.

the girl laugh is so genuine 21:00 because she knew how much that means to the boy
It seems the boy is like a happy pill for that girl. She is already laughing at the start before linus move closer to them.
That instantly turned into their best date for sure
Dude who builds computers and speaks English probably watches Linus Tech tips LMAO
10000% . How can they act like that’s not a obvious case 😂
He probably learned English from LTT.
@@dannyhoang7410 surprised he didn't say the classic canadian "just give 'er bud"
linues shirt+ the camera tells it all XD
Yes, because every English speaker in the world who works with technology watches this one Canadian Tech review channel. LTT is widely known, but he isn't movie star recognizable. I would be willing to bet that if you showed his picture to 10 random employees at Intel, Best Buy, Nvdia, Microcenter and NASA you would get less than a 50% recognition at each.
You and your circle of associates watch so it feels like everyone does but he isn't THAT popular. a few million views per video out of 1-2 billion english speakers is nothing.
That Face of the boy is PRICELESS LMAO
Poor guy got a blue screen irl after Linus gave him the pc lol
Hope he's happy with it!
he needs an upgrade afterall
That boy in the end, his genuine happiness for simply meeting Linus was awesome. He'd probably treasure those 2 memory sticks that were removed as a gift, but instead got a one heck of a PC. Well deserved if you ask me!
the two sticks were removed in order to find the matching pair, all the sticks were put back in once the pairs were match up properly on the mobo.

That ending gives me hope.

Asian girlfriends in Asia do be like that tho.
Gotta love Taiwan. You can just travel there, drop 5K$ on a random shop, say "I want to play at 4K, make it awesome", pick up an amazing custom computer a few days later, carry it back easily by bus, and all of this without speaking the local language
you will love india more. Those taiwanese are chinese spy
love from india
Indeed. Too bad China's right next door... :(
Most of all SAFELY too. I would never carry a 5K computer in public anywhere in the USA.
@@Steve-bc2cl eh, that's true for a lot of Asia. I've carried some expensive computers through the streets of Delhi and Mumbai and they were probably at less risk of being stolen than cheaper computers if anything. And let's not forget the stories of the Afghan PS5s. Plus while I have no personal stories there, I've definitely seen a fair bit of expensive PC gear (along with audio/visual gear) be haphazardly carried around in SEA.
I'm sure Yvonne helped with the language bit
They couldn't have given this computer to a better person. You can visibly see the joy and shock of the situation. It's SO amazing to see good innocent random people have their lives changed in such a wholesome way :)
honestly what makes this more wholesome is the fact that the guy is literally froze and the other girl was laughing really hard! love this.
That guys reaction genuinely melted my heart!
Best part of the video.
I'm so glad it didn't go to some person who probably already has lots of cool stuff.
Helping out kids and giving them an optimistic look on the world is great.
You gotta love Taiwan and the Taiwanese, they're genuinely humble, respectful and really easy going folk. I lost my phone in a taxi once and not only did the driver drive it back to me after the next run, he gave me a couple coins that dropped from my pocket. Ofc I gave them back and some more for the trouble but that interaction really cemented my already extremely good view of the country. Great to see videos based from outside North America also!
No, they are not... 🎉
@@Mdxceed how? I've never met a rude Taiwanese person in public ever. Their country is so welcoming to tourists its crazy, I never once felt unsafe even when I was walking alone at night in the back streets of Taipei.
Taiwan is what whole China could have been. Its kind of sad
Pretty soon you'll get CCP bots swarm this comment
I agreed. They are genuinely humble.
Lots of computer accessories are made in Taiwan. We were born with it. In Taiwan constructing computer is never difficult. I DIYed more than 5 PC when I was in Uni. Of course now days gaming PC is more complicated. Linus visited the most famous Tech/Digital mall in Taiwan with long history. Seller there are full of experience and skilled. Honestly they don't have to watch Linus's channel to learn. The mall already has a strong ecosystem.
Thought it was made in China
As always tagged on the boxes
@@kennethverana5885This mall has a long history of about 40 years , way before China made any computer parts.
牛逼的咧!
I would love to be wealthy enough for this kind of adventure and to deliver on this level of kindness. This video was surprisingly heartwarming, thank you!
